Sustainability Specialist

The Sustainability Specialist is an integral member of Mt. Bachelor’s Events and Marketing departments and greater resort teams. This role is responsible for acting as the Mt. Bachelor lead on Sustainability initiatives laddering to ‘Play Forever’, POWDR’s corporate responsibility commitment to protect the environment and support the community in our everyday operations and do so in partnership with both Mt. Bachelor, Sun Country Tours and the POWDR Play Forever cross-portfolio team.

The successful candidate will have:

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

Sustainability Initiative – Play Forever

Liaise with POWDR’s Play Forever representatives; communicate Mt. Bachelor initiatives and lead implementation of Play Forever program directives from POWDR.
Represent Mt. Bachelor at all Play Forever portfolio-wide calls and additional Play Forever stakeholder meetings, as needed.
Continue to develop, monitor, execute and track resort sustainability initiatives, strategies, integrations, and general roadmap.
Project manager cross-departmental collaboration, laddering to resort foals and future Play Forever priorities, by focusing on areas of optimization in categories of Waste, Energy and Transportation.
Assist with current in place Play Forever efforts that ladder to resort goals E.g. Monthly education series to build awareness and increase, monitor landfill diversion efforts by Food & Beverage and Guest Services, maintain YETI loaner cup program at key events.
Work with the Marketing team to communicate efforts and build awareness of the company’s sustainability initiatives; communications efforts should include direct communication to customers via website, e-mail and social media, communication to interested constituent groups, and story pitching to local/regional media
Support the Mt. Bachelor Play Forever grant program.
Assist company efforts to be an innovative leader in environmental stewardship and philanthropy both within our operations and our communities.
Work with the Mt. Bachelor partners and stakeholders to monitor, track and compile data relevant to the company’s sustainability initiatives.
Oversee and maintain all Sustainability promotional Play Forever branded assets (tents, wind-blades, banners etc.)
Develop and maintain all Sustainability promotional swag items for resort event integration and promotional needs.
Assist with resort partner programming, events and community sponsorship fulfillments.
Work to ensure efficiencies and alignment for all Play Forever branding, communication, social media asset etc. by working closely with Marketing department members
Assist in coordinating in-market promotions, events, and efforts to drive awareness – including local, regional, and national consumer trade shows and events, with the integration of Play Forever.
Maintain flexible work hours with the ability to respond to changes in the work environment (weather, on site events, etc.) and available to work nights and weekends or travel as scheduling requires.

Assistant Professor, Environment & Sustainability

The Clark Family School of Environment & Sustainability and the Center for Public Lands (CPL) at Western Colorado University seek candidates for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. This public lands management educator’s primary teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate lecture and field courses in Western’s BA in Environment & Sustainability and Master in Environmental Management. Courses include sophomore-level Public Lands Management, junior-level US & Western Environmental Policy, graduate-level Public Lands Management, and select topics merging the faculty member’s ever-evolving areas of interest with student areas of curiosity and projects in the Master in Environmental Management program. The faculty member must serve as the lead partner for the CPL Director, specifically to connect diverse, cross-campus undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and programs with community-facing, grant-funded CPL programs and projects.

Renewable Energy Program Manager

This role will report to the Director of Renewable Energy Origination and be responsible for global sourcing, negotiating, and managing renewable energy projects for Microsoft’s Cloud & Infrastructure Organization (CI+O). The incumbent will be under the direct supervision of the Renewable Energy Engineering Manager or his/her designee.

Duties:

Conducting research to develop new technology for renewable energy production
Consulting with clients about the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of solar power systems
Developing a plan to transition to alternative energy sources such as wind and solar power to reduce pollution and dependence on fossil fuels

Conduct energy audits to evaluate energy use and to identify conservation and cost reduction measures.

Responsible for the engineering aspect of the renewable energy planning division.

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering or related field and four years of related engineering experience.

Knowledge of: Engineering principles and practices; mathematical, practical application of engineering science and technology; project management principles; construction techniques; safe work practices; applicable Federal, State, and/or Local laws, rules, and regulations.

Skills in: Interpreting and applying Federal, State, and/or Local laws, rules, and regulations; reading, understanding, and preparing drawings for construction contracts; preparing a variety of technical reports and/or documentation; presenting technical information to management, public groups, and other related individuals; interpreting and preparing specifications; estimating construction costs; conducting studies. Able to use computers and related software applications; communicate, interact with co-workers, supervisor, contractors, representatives of other agencies and departments, and the general public to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction; use AutoCAD to prepare plans for utility projects and contracts is a plus. Registration as an Engineer-In-Training in the CNMI, Guam, or any State of the United States is preferred but not required. Sustainability Specialist

Responsible for general coordination and support of a variety of projects and sustainability programs to help achieve the City’s Sustainability Plan goals. Provides ample support of the existing waste diversion program, monitors contract compliance and performance for the City’s Three Cart Program partner, and handles customer service requests related the City’s garbage, recycle and compost program.

Essential Functions

The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:

Work with internal City staff and external community stakeholders on existing waste diversion programs, including recycling, composting, single use plastics, and electronic waste.
Help develop zero waste event requirements and work with event coordinators, organizers, and contractors to further the City’s sustainable event planning.
Work with City partners to support waste diversion programs, including communication with the City’s contracted residential Three Cart Program waste hauler. Help monitor contract performance and compliance.
Review monthly billing and reporting for the City’s contracted waste hauler to ensure a high level of customer service and contract adherence is maintained.
Handle technical or difficult customer service requests with the City’s residential waste, recycling, and compost collection program, providing direction to the City’s contracted waste hauler.
Develop outreach materials and creates content for City’s communications channels (web, print, social media, etc.). Works closely with the Communications Department.
Research sustainability-related grant applications and becomes familiar with the state and regional grant programs.
Engages with the community with frequent interaction at City community events and provides support to event organizers to ensure sustainability goals are met.
Support City facilities expansion of recycling and composting and implementation of a green team.
Coordinate and attend Earth Month activities or other events as assigned.
Works across all departments and with City-wide event coordination and permitting to develop programs to encourage adoption of sustainability goals.
Performs project coordination by initiating, coordinating, managing zero waste, recycling, energy efficiency, or water conservation projects.
Provides creativity and support for current and future City programs such as waste programs, community solar gardens, water conservations, transportation projects, or pilot projects.
Perform related work as required and assigned.

Typical Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge or experience with research and data analysis, Canva, sustainability, event planning, zero waste, recycling, waste diversion, community-based social marketing, or community outreach is desired, but not required. Ability to write effective reports, businesses correspondence, and procedure manuals.

SKILL: Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job. Strong interpersonal communications, research, and analytical skills. Skilled in interpreting, understanding, and following complex statutes, ordinances, regulations, standards and guidelines.

ABILITY: Requires diplomatic, clear, and effective communication skills. Interacts with local government personnel, City committees and members of the community. Communicate core sustainability practices to residents, conflict resolution, ability to work independently. Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills. TRAINING: Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, or a related field. Experience with sustainability initiatives strongly desired. Municipal government experience preferred.

Energy Engineer

About this role:

The Energy Engineer designs, develops, and evaluates energy conservation measures in commercial buildings and Industrial facilities by using and expanding their understanding of building HVAC, domestic hot water, process loads, lighting, and envelope systems. After conducting thorough assessments of building energy requirements and expenditures, the Energy Engineer presents and works with lead engineers to implement comprehensive energy reduction plans.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct energy audits, and develop energy savings calculations and develop budget quality cost estimates for energy conservation measures (ECMs) at commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.
Identify and quantify energy conservation measures associated with HVAC systems, energy management systems, building envelope improvements, and renewable energy technologies.
Develop savings analysis approach and assist in development of complementary M&V plan.
Complete administrative functions including, but not limited to timesheets, expense reports, recurring ethics and safety training.
Understand financial analysis associated with utility tariffs, energy and operational costs.
Be familiar with all phases of project development including conceptual and detailed design, construction phase, commissioning and warranty.
Participate in meetings with customers, facilities staff, design and construction personnel to understand project goals.
Review design documents, equipment submittals, O&M manuals, and supporting documentation to validate scopes of work.
Analyze utility bill data to determine customer energy performance parameters. Develop energy and ancillary (operation & maintenance) savings.
Perform energy savings calculations using whole-building modeling (eQUEST, or other) and temperature- bin analysis methods to calculate savings associated with ECM upgrades.
Perform cooling and heating load calculations to properly size HVAC equipment (chillers, boilers, etc.)
Prepare technical reports including writing detailed ECM descriptions and supporting documents to be included in proposal submissions, and present proposals to clients at oral interviews.
Complete administrative functions including, but not limited to timesheets, expense reports, recurring ethics and safety training.
Assist lead engineers on energy related projects by using knowledge to ensure compliance and proper implementation of capital energy reduction improvements
Support in maintenance and ongoing improvements of existing analytical tool templates and energy audit procedures
Support junior team members in conducting energy efficiency analyses and provide site visit guidance
Collaborate with management and senior staff to develop unique area of specialty
Perform other duties as require
Possess ability to perform physical tasks including but not limited to: Standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time, reading and recording information on handwritten forms and computer screens, using hand tools (such as powered tools, measuring devices, etc.), lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, navigating in small/enclosed places, climbing stairs and ladders, and working in loud, warm and cold environments

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
2+ years of continuous experience in the energy sector, including energy efficiency concepts, HVAC systems, and renewable energy systems

Knowledgeable of HVAC equipment and systems, including chillers, boilers, air handlers, variable speed drives and motors.

Advanced knowledge and experience performing ASHRAE Level I, II and III level audits of facilities and energy consuming systems.
Proficiency with energy simulations including eQUEST and spreadsheet models, e.g., BIN models.
