About this role:

The Energy Engineer designs, develops, and evaluates energy conservation measures in commercial buildings and Industrial facilities by using and expanding their understanding of building HVAC, domestic hot water, process loads, lighting, and envelope systems. After conducting thorough assessments of building energy requirements and expenditures, the Energy Engineer presents and works with lead engineers to implement comprehensive energy reduction plans.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct energy audits, and develop energy savings calculations and develop budget quality cost estimates for energy conservation measures (ECMs) at commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.
Identify and quantify energy conservation measures associated with HVAC systems, energy management systems, building envelope improvements, and renewable energy technologies.
Develop savings analysis approach and assist in development of complementary M&V plan.
Complete administrative functions including, but not limited to timesheets, expense reports, recurring ethics and safety training.
Understand financial analysis associated with utility tariffs, energy and operational costs.
Be familiar with all phases of project development including conceptual and detailed design, construction phase, commissioning and warranty.
Participate in meetings with customers, facilities staff, design and construction personnel to understand project goals.
Review design documents, equipment submittals, O&M manuals, and supporting documentation to validate scopes of work.
Analyze utility bill data to determine customer energy performance parameters. Develop energy and ancillary (operation & maintenance) savings.
Perform energy savings calculations using whole-building modeling (eQUEST, or other) and temperature- bin analysis methods to calculate savings associated with ECM upgrades.
Perform cooling and heating load calculations to properly size HVAC equipment (chillers, boilers, etc.)
Prepare technical reports including writing detailed ECM descriptions and supporting documents to be included in proposal submissions, and present proposals to clients at oral interviews.
Complete administrative functions including, but not limited to timesheets, expense reports, recurring ethics and safety training.
Assist lead engineers on energy related projects by using knowledge to ensure compliance and proper implementation of capital energy reduction improvements
Support in maintenance and ongoing improvements of existing analytical tool templates and energy audit procedures
Support junior team members in conducting energy efficiency analyses and provide site visit guidance
Collaborate with management and senior staff to develop unique area of specialty
Perform other duties as require
Possess ability to perform physical tasks including but not limited to: Standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time, reading and recording information on handwritten forms and computer screens, using hand tools (such as powered tools, measuring devices, etc.), lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, navigating in small/enclosed places, climbing stairs and ladders, and working in loud, warm and cold environments

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
2+ years of continuous experience in the energy sector, including energy efficiency concepts, HVAC systems, and renewable energy systems

Senior Energy Engineer

Resource Innovations (RI) is currently seeking an experienced customer-facing Senior Energy Engineer for our Utility Services Division in Northern California. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with relevant engineering and sales/outreach experience in the energy efficiency field. The ideal candidate is expected to be technically savvy and organized, with strong communication and interpersonal skills, and able to successfully market utility-focused solutions to potential clients. Experience with identifying potential energy efficiency measures at different types of facilities is strongly desired. This position will involve frequent travel throughout Northern California.

Duties and Responsibilities

Build and manage long-term client engagement as RI’s primary point of contact, effectively communicating with facility engineers, energy/sustainability champions, and other decision-makers at diverse facilities
Oversee the co-management and delivery of energy efficiency projects, present results, and develop new scopes of work based on the strategic goals and needs of the client
Facilitate cross-functional engagement of staff and resources to effectively implement specific projects
Independently audit complex buildings, evaluate building systems, and identify energy efficiency opportunities
Independently build technically sound spreadsheets and perform accurate energy savings calculations
Write clear and concise reports, allowing business executives to understand how their energy dollars are most effectively invested
Review and understand spreadsheets created by others, identify shortcomings, suggest corrections
Build or review energy efficiency models using industry standard software (eQUEST, EnergyPro, Trane Trace, etc.)
Support RI’s utility programs under the direction of the program managers
Assist with business development initiatives
Provide measure implementation support to the customers

Requirements

Bachelors or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering or related fields
5+ years of experience with energy efficiency in commercial, government, and/or industrial sectors
Experience in commercial, hi-tech/bio-tech, and health care, is highly desired
Experience with building management system (BMS) such as ALC, Metasys, Apogee, Andover, etc. is highly desired
Solid understanding of building systems (particularly lighting and HVAC) and/or sustainability practices is necessary
Experience in measures/project implementation is highly desired
Experience in commissioning and/or retro-commissioning test procedures, schematic diagrams, and system specifications is a plus
Extensive familiarity with relevant building codes and standards (e.g. Title 24, ASHRAE 90.1, etc.)
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel
Excellent writing, interpersonal, and analytical skills
Able to work and manage time independently
Hands-on experience with mechanical and control systems is a plus
P.E., C.E.M., or LEED AP® certification (or on track to receive) is desirable
Must be able to travel locally (domestically or internationally) up to approximately 30% of the time.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of the Vice President Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality, the entry level Environmental and Sustainability Specialist is responsible for facilitating all sustainability plan activities outlined within the company’s Sustainability Program within the Americas operating unit. Activities include Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting and strategic initiatives tied to the formal programs twelve sustainability priority strategies. National Grid is hiring a Energy Efficiency Senior Product Developer for our New York Customer Energy Management department in Brooklyn, NY or Waltham, MA location.

Job Purpose

To support new product development and the continuous improvement of existing products in the areas of energy efficiency, electric demand response and electrification of heat efforts for our residential, multi-family, small business, large commercial, low/moderate income customers and disadvantaged communities. The Energy Efficiency Senior Product Developer will be a member of the Customer Energy Management (CEM) New York’s Growth team.

A Senior Product Developer is the project manager of new product development. The Senior Product Developer will be responsible for bringing new ideas through the discovery process (assessing the customer value proposition, business case, and technical feasibility of proposed programs). For viable ideas, the Senior Product Developer, supported by subject matter experts, will develop a product development plan, laying out the scope, schedule, budget and resources necessary for product development.

The Senior Product Developer supports implementation of the product development plan and, for successful products, develops a product launch plan. The Senior Product Developer remains a resource to the product launch team throughout the product launch and supports the scaling or modification of launched products through the continuous improvement process.

There is a focus on: demand side management (DSM) products for reducing gas and electric system peak needs; use of data and modeling to improve product performance; new products for low and moderate income customers and disadvantaged communities; supporting corporate and state climate goals; and exploring new business models.
Key Accountabilities

This role will support factory environmental compliance and management system requirements primarily in the US, but with occasional support in Canada and Mexico. Activities include auditing, providing technical guidance and completing required registrations. Lead the North American Sustainability Efforts In coordination with the Communications Team, advance employee engagement and promotion of sustainable goals made public by our Corporate Headquarters in Japan. Develop and implement a path for North American factories and facilities to reach our net zero carbon emissions goals by 2030. Develop and maintain carbon emissions and energy consumption tracking to effectively communicate progress towards our goals.
Responsible for ensuring our products meet all applicable environmental regulations (i.e., chemical, packaging, waste/recycling), use industry best practices and are ready to succeed in the market. This will involve tracking and understanding US product related environmental regulations, applying them to our product line and service offerings, applicable reporting, developing compliance policies and procedures and communicating them to corporate management and responsible Operating Company compliance teams. This involves understanding applicable environmental laws / regulations, industry best practices, environmental design standards and applying them to Panasonic products to ensure compliance. This includes monitoring emerging issues, understanding competitor environmental strategies, applying compliance procedures, reporting, and training.
Factory Compliance Support: Manage environmental compliance for North American factories and facilities, including performing audits and issuing guidance documents. This will involve a detailed knowledge of facility compliance regulations.
Legislative & Regulatory Analysis: Monitor and maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state environmental laws and regulations. Develop and recommend compliance policies and procedures to management. Participate in multiple trade associations in order to track legislative regulatory developments and guide environmental policy in the best interest of Panasonic. What You’ll Bring:

Assistant Professor of Sustainability

Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sustainability position in the Department of Geology, Environment, and Sustainability at Hofstra University. The department seeks candidates with research and teaching interests combining eco-agriculture and sustainable food systems with urban/suburban sustainability. The candidate will contribute to the overall interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate teaching and research mission of the department.
