Marine Energy Project Manager

NREL’s water power team has an immediate opening for a full time (40 hours per week) project manager with a technical understanding of renewable energy, marine engineering, environmental science, or a related field.

The Water Power Technology Validation group performs research to advance wave energy, tidal energy, ocean current energy, riverine energy, and ocean thermal gradient energy technologies (i.e., marine energy technologies) – see https://www.nrel.gov/water/marine-energy.html for more information. In this pursuit we work closely with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), industry partners, and academic institutions. The group’s work involves the development of numerical design, control, and optimization software tools, developing new and innovative methods of capturing marine energy, performing laboratory testing, and supporting open-ocean testing.

The project manager who fills this role will work with NREL researchers and staff, industry partners, and the Department of Energy to plan and execute marine energy R&D projects. The project manager will be responsible for (1) supporting and coordinating laboratory and open-ocean testing of marine energy technologies and (2) coordinating numerical modeling and technology design projects. In this role, the project manager will need to coordinate with NREL’s technical and safety staff, along with marine energy industry partners, community stakeholders, and Department of Energy clients.

The candidate will work on multiple projects simultaneously, and be expected to keep projects on-schedule, within budget constraints, and progressing efficiently through NREL’s administrative processes (e.g., safety, publishing, finance, communications). To be successful in this role, the project manager will need to have a foundational understanding of the technical aspects of the projects, and the project management skills to plan and execute to meet objectives and milestones in collaboration with Principal Investigators and the project team.

This position will require occasional travel to meet project objectives.

Venue Sustainability Manager

Xfinity Center is seeking a Venue Sustainability Manager to help us take our sustainability programs to the next level. This role will provide both administrative and operational support to drive successful implementation of venue sustainability programs, including but not limited to,

developing, and executing resource recovery and material circularity programs, promoting educational and engagement campaigns, supporting green artist operations and activations, and creating a strong culture around sustainability. This role will operate under the guidance of Live

Nation’s national sustainability team, reporting to and working closely with the Regional Zero Waste Manager. This role will also report directly to the Venue Operations Manager and be part of the venue operations team. Coming into 2024, Xfinity Center is setting new targets to become an industry leader in zero waste, which will be a priority task for the selected candidate. This is a seasonal, part-time position, working an average of 35 hours per week. Hours per week will vary depending on show schedule and business needs at the time.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Training & Engagement:

Participate in pre-season orientation and mid-season meetings with Live Nation’s national sustainability team.

Attend all scheduled 1-on-1 meetings with Regional Zero Waste Manager providing updates on all initiatives.

Be onsite during pre-season venue set up to ensure zero waste operational procedures are in place.

Drive Zero Waste Supervisor hiring, training, and onboarding.

Drive Zero Waste Coordinator hiring, training, and onboarding.

Deploy sustainability communication and engagement assets to help lead pre-season venue orientation trainings.

Provide regular updates to entire venue staff to share progress, recognize employees, and identify areas of improvement.

Work closely with all venue departments to integrate sustainability into operations.

Collaborate with the Marketing Lead to regularly share venue sustainability highlights on all social channels.

Collaborate with the Experience Manager to build enthusiasm and participation around venue sustainability efforts.

Other tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager and National Sustainability Team including but not limited to local community and vendor engagement.

Resource Recovery & Material Circularity Operations:

Work with venue leaders and Regional Zero Waste Manager to design a comprehensive zero waste plan for your venue with actionable goals, improvement areas, a current map and material flow, and a tracking system for accountability.

Oversee and assist with the material sorting process of all recycling, composting, reuse, and donations materials to increase resource recovery and diversion from landfill.

Analyze existing venue infrastructure, event set up, and waste flows to identify areas for improvement.

Be present on show days and non-show days to manage teams, and to ensure compliance and quality control of materials entering the waste stream.

Identify key opportunities and partnerships to expand the material circularity model throughout the season.

Build or maintain connections with local partners and waste haulers to stay up to date on accepted divertible materials and options for resource recovery.

Create a lively and positive atmosphere across front of house and back of house waste operations.

Reporting and Data Collection:

Utilize Microsoft Office (primarily Word, Excel, and SharePoint), Google Drive, and Box programs to track and report on key program

metrics.

Acquire weight tickets and chain of custody receipts by establishing relationships with waste haulers and resource recovery vendors.

Update the mandatory venue data tracking and reporting spreadsheet on a minimum monthly basis.

Document operations and upload photos to shared folders.

Create engaging visual reports throughout the season that can be shared venue wide.• Complete the post-season venue sustainability survey.

Qualifications:

Show days require about 90% of the time spent walking, bending, reaching, stooping, lifting, and carrying 50+ lbs. with about 50% of that time spent helping/overseeing the sorting of materials.

Local Clean Energy Deployment Director

LCV is hiring a Local Clean Energy Deployment Director who will work directly with state affiliates to secure local clean energy project approvals and advance state policies facilitating the responsible deployment and approval of clean energy projects as part of LCV’s Clean Energy for All program. The Director will partner with 30+ state affiliates and LCV – collectively called the Conservation Voters Movement (CVM) – to design an integrated campaign in key regions, beginning with East Coast offshore wind, track and monitor local project decisions, and develop plans for advocacy and public education strategies. The Director will also ensure projects are grounded in social, racial and economic justice. The ideal candidate has experience working collaboratively with state and local-based coalitions and organizations, managing paid tactics in local campaigns and experience integrating racial and economic justice into environmental campaigns.
Responsibilities:

Develop, lead and execute a coordinated CVM campaign focused on local clean energy deployment, with input received from key LCV staff and in collaboration with state affiliates.
Partner directly with state LCV staff to both identify clean energy approval and siting campaigns and develop strategic campaign plans to secure project approval.
Establish and maintain tracking for grassroots and communications metrics, as well as systems for monitoring project and permit approvals, keeping VP, State Policy and Advocacy and other key LCV staff informed in real-time on campaign progress.
Manage budget for local deployment campaigns and work with VP, State Policy and Advocacy to develop deployment-focused fundraising proposals. Represent LCV and the Clean Energy For All program with donors.
Support state affiliates in expanding their role advocating for responsible deployment policies by providing insight, researching and analyzing current policies and emerging trends, and developing campaign and communications strategies.
Support state-level efforts to design community benefits agreements guidance for local partners.
Integrate racial and economic justice principles into local campaign design, working with partners and allies in the labor movement to ensure that state and local projects advance the goal of expanding family-supporting union jobs in the clean energy sector.
Collaborate with the campaigns team to identify local clean energy champions and opponents and help integrate into local political analysis.
Work with the communications team to identify messaging and communications strategies to strengthen support for wind and solar projects and share guidance with state advocates.
Coordinate with the government affairs team to ensure grassroots engagement around key federal agency decisions.
Identify opportunities to advance our network-wide deployment program, including being an active member of national and state coalitions, scoping potential new alliances, and connecting our state affiliates to opportunities to advance their leadership.
Travel up to 20% of the time for state affiliate training, staff retreats, meetings, conferences and professional development opportunities, as needed.

Environmental Program Coordinator

POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position will create, develop, and oversee various types of sustainability programs at Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). This includes, but not limited to, carbon reduction (Airports Carbon Accreditation Program), resource conservation, utility tracking and analysis, energy efficiency, sustainability dashboards, and food rescue, as well as supporting a wide array of other environmental compliance and sustainability programs at AUS. This position will also be responsible for researching and tracking sustainable programs across the aviation industry and finding new programs to implement.

Additionally, this position will manage the airport’s multi-million dollar total waste contract, coordinate with airport stakeholders to improve waste diversion, ensure compliance with the City of Austin universal recycling ordinance and oversee regulated waste and hazardous waste programs.

Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to Environmental Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration, Business Administration, Planning, plus six (6) years of experience in a related field.
Master’s degree may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.
Related experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years

Preferred Experience:

Experience developing and implementing conservation / sustainable programs at operationally complex facilities
Project management knowledge & skills
Contract Management and procurement knowledge & skills
Data manipulation, and analysis skills, mid/high level excel experience
Green building program knowledge/credentials (LEED, AEGB, Envision, Parksmart etc.)
Regulatory waste knowledge and waste contracting experience
Ability to travel to more than one work location.

Environmental and Sustainability Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

The Environmental and Sustainability Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of the company’s environmental & sustainability programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.). In addition, this position will also perform sustainability recordkeeping and implement projects in order to reduce energy use and waste generation, as well as increase recycling/reuse and cost savings.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

Apply subject matter expertise and communication skills to independently and objectively assist facilities in identifying and meeting environmental compliance requirements.
Lead the sites ISO 14001:2015 audits and activities as defined within the ISO14001:2015 standard to ensure successful certification.
Ensure tools/methods to assess facility compliance status are implemented, tracked, and adjusted as necessary.
Perform reporting of environmental requirements such as but not limited to; Tier II Reports, Form R Reports, TRI Reports, Air Permits, Stormwater / Discharge Monitoring Reports (eDMR), etc.
Maintain waste profiles, manifests, and tracking of generated wastes.
Collect various samples of potentially hazardous materials for lab analysis.
Perform routine site inspections and implement corrective actions to ensure compliance with site regulatory requirements, permits, & plans.
Provide support in response to environmental incidents, including root cause analyses, and guidance on remediation and clean-up efforts.
Communicate with local, state, and federal agencies regarding environmental related inquiries.
Develop and conduct employee training on a variety of environmental & sustainability topics.
Develop talent and build capability through coaching and mentoring our EHS team.
Support EHS programs and drive compliance with operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, or Industrial Hygiene.

Experience: Experience or coursework in occupational health, safety, environmental, or related technical field. Experience working with regulatory agency personnel.

Computer Skills: Skilled with MS Office suite.

Certificates & Licenses: Pursuing environmental certification(s) such as EHS/CSP certifications. ISO Lead Auditor.

Other Requirements: Experience with Operational Excellence methodologies, detail-oriented and a high level of problem-solving skills.
