Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to collaborate with EEI’s internal environmental policy and security teams, member companies, federal agencies, and industry groups to advance and secure balanced environmental policies, regulations, and legislation. This role will focus on key areas such as water quality and quantity under the Clean Water Act, siting and permitting under NEPA and the Endangered Species Act, and air quality and clean energy under the Clean Air Act. Additionally, the candidate will support initiatives related to energy grid reliability and resiliency, including wildfire mitigation, NERC reliability standards, and strategic partnerships to enhance EEI’s position in addressing both natural and manmade hazards. Collaboration with various EEI teams, including communications, government affairs, and regulatory affairs, will be essential to the role.

Resilience and Wildfire Policy: Develop and advocate for industry positions on resilience, preparedness, and wildfire-related policies, regulations, and legislation at the federal and state levels. Serve as the lead liaison to the EEI CEO Wildfire Task Force and contribute to the ESCC Wildfire Working Group. Represent EEI’s interests before external stakeholders and collaborate with internal teams, member companies, and industry consultants.

Infrastructure and Natural Resource Policy: Formulate industry positions on infrastructure, siting and permitting, vegetation management, and other natural resource priorities under NEPA, the ESA, and related statutes. Advocate these positions before federal and state regulators, Congress, and Executive Branch officials. Represent EEI’s interests and support collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Water Quality and Quantity Policy: Develop industry positions on water quality and quantity issues, including advocacy before federal and state regulators, Congress, and Executive Branch officials. Represent EEI’s interests in these areas and assist internal teams, member companies, and industry stakeholders on related issues.

Greenhouse Gas and Clean Energy Policy: Assist in developing and advocating for industry positions on greenhouse gas and clean energy policies, regulations, and legislation. Represent EEI’s interests in discussions with federal and state regulators, Congress, and Executive Branch officials, and support internal and external collaboration on these issues.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in relevant field including envornmental studies, policy, natural resource planning, energy and environment, or public policy
A minimum of five years of experience in environmental policy, utility operations, or equivalent at federal or state level
Familiarity with Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act and utility permitting issues preferred
Excellent written and oral communications skills with the ability to synthesize complex issues and convey them clearly and conversationally
Proven ability to manage complex tasks indepently
Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
Comfortable working with team members at every level throughout the organization and with member company officials, including executive officers and staff

Compensation

The salary range for this position is set at $160,000 – $210,000 annually. Starting annual salary will be determined on individual qualifications. EEI also offers an annual performance incentive which is prorated for mid-year start dates. This incentive is between 5%-10% of annual base salary, based on performance.

Clean Air & Water Attorney

Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) is seeking an Attorney to join our Clean Air & Water team, working to protect New England’s environment for all people. It is strongly preferred to have the position be based in Boston, but other CLF offices will be considered. There is opportunity for remote and flexible work within New England. The position will be hired as a Staff Attorney Level I or II or Senior Attorney depending on years of experience.

The Attorney will work on litigation across program priorities, as well as promote solutions to the region’s biggest environmental challenges using policy tools and legislative advocacy. The work will focus on Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act enforcement cases, with the possibility of bringing lawsuits in federal court under state and federal law to protect communities, especially historically disadvantaged ones, from chemical contamination.

Policy Advisor – Buildings, US Climate Alliance

The U.S. Climate Alliance seeks a Policy Advisor to develop and implement policy solutions to decarbonize the buildings sector in Alliance states and territories, working closely with senior staff of the Alliance Secretariat. Last year, this coalition of governors announced a series of new commitments to eliminate emissions from buildings, including collectively quadrupling heat pump installations across the Alliance by the end of the decade.

The Policy Advisor will be charged with helping turn these commitments into action as the Alliance deepens its focus in this priority area. They will also advise on additional sectors as appropriate. This role will report to the Policy Director and be expected to work as part of a broader team that includes Alliance states, consultants, and external partners. The position is part of the Energy and Climate team at the United Nations Foundation, which houses the U.S. Climate Alliance Secretariat.​

Essential Functions

Advise states and track member policy development

Shape content and strategy for Alliance-wide meetings, workshops, and other high-impact events

Fundraising
Identify funding needs to execute on the Alliance’s building decarbonization strategies and work with the Development team to develop relationships with current and potential funders to support this work.

Grant management
Provide oversight and technical expertise for Alliance philanthropic grants that support building decarbonization activities. With the Operations team, manage spending against relevant budgets for these grants.
With the Operations and UNF contracts team, review new contracts and grant agreements to advance building decarbonization.
Evaluate and contribute to funding decisions for state technical assistance projects. Provide expertise, oversight, and support for buildings-focused technical assistance projects that are funded by the Alliance.

Assistant Professor, Environmental Public Policy

The School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of environmental public policy and research methodology. While the tenure-home of the position is in SPIA, the successful candidate is expected to teach cross-listed courses in support of the mission of UC’s School of Environment and Sustainability Studies (SEaS). SPIA is seeking to expand its research capacity to leverage broader theories/frameworks of public policy and/or governance, which align with SPIA’s mission to advance research with public impact.

SPIA offers a PhD and MA in Political Science, a Master’s of Public Administration (MPA), as well as three undergraduate BAs (Political Science, International Affairs, and Law and Society). SPIA also houses three centers—the Center for Cyber Strategy and Policy (CCSP), the Portman Center for Policy Solutions (PCPS), and the Center for Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (CTRHT). SEaS is home to the Environmental Studies BS and BA, as well as two minor tracks. SEaS brings together expertise in the Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities to create a transdisciplinary approach to problem solving in the classroom and in the community.
Essential Functions

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Apply their research and methodological expertise to an environmental policy-centered research agenda that exhibits potential for external funding. Research in any environmental issue-area or using any methodological approach is welcome.

• Teach primarily, but not exclusively, courses at the undergraduate level. The course load for research active tenure-track faculty is 2-2 (two courses per 2 semesters). All undergraduate courses taught will be cross listed between SPIA and SEaS. Courses might include, but are not limited to, Introduction to Environmental Policy, Environmental Justice, Environmental Science and Politics, and/or Global Environmental Politics. Graduate courses might include Public Policy Research Methods and Environmental Policy.

• Develop their own courses that coincide with their specific area of expertise.

• Perform service activities such as committee membership at the unit level as well as the college, university and at national and international levels with professional organizations, community-engagement, public service, as well as student mentorship and advising.

Officer, Blue Nature Alliance

The International Union for Conservation of Nature recommends that countries strongly protect 30% of every habitat by 2030. The Pew Charitable Trusts, Conservation International, Global Environment Facility, Minderoo Foundation and Rob and Melanie Walton Foundation have partnered to form Blue Nature Alliance, with the aim to catalyze conservation of 18 million square kilometers of the ocean (approximately 5 percent of the global ocean) towards conserving 30% of the ocean by 2030. Working alongside partners, the Alliance scope of work is truly global, and aims to protect global ocean biodiversity, build resilience to climate change, promote human wellbeing, and enhance ecosystem connectivity and function. In addition to partnering with local champions to secure the designation of new and expanded conservation areas, the Alliance works to strengthening the management and durability of existing ocean conservation areas and upgrading their protections where needed. The Blue Nature Alliance Ocean Campaign Officer will be part of a collaborative, dynamic global team comprised of staff from both The Pew Charitable Trusts and Conservation International, that aims to make an outsized impact on the ocean, leveraging major global commitments and political will to do so.

Position Overview
The Ocean Campaign Officer, Blue Nature Alliance will coordinate engagement at global events and implement specific political strategies of the Alliance’s active country/regional engagements and efforts to ensure we are meeting our stated objectives and projected targets. Global Policy and Advocacy work cultivates political champions, leverages international events and convenings, and advocates with decision makers to advance ocean conservation objectives.

As part of the policy delivery team that provides cross-cutting technical support across a portfolio of site-specific projects and objectives, the Officer will report to the Global Advocacy and Political Strategy Lead and work in collaboration with regional officers, country portfolio leads, local partners and other senior members of the team to support short-term and long-term needs. This includes informing and implementing campaign strategies to achieve policy outcomes leading to large scale, area-based ocean conservation and marine protected areas, identifying opportunities and influencers to advance objectives, as well as filling, addressing and helping to support emerging capacity needs with team members and partners on the ground. Responsibilities also will include reporting on progress to senior leadership and cultivating and maintaining relationships with partners and local governments.

We seek candidates with experience and a track record of cultivating conservation action and environmental advocacy and policy outcomes, preferably with ocean experience. Located in Pew’s Washington DC (US), London (UK), or Brussels (Belgium) office, this position will participate in Pew’s core in-office days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will have flexibility to work from home the remainder of each week.

Under supervision of Global Advocacy and Policy Lead, oversee key responsibilities in advancing implementation of campaigning and political strategy to accelerate delivery of Alliance goals, which includes:

Work as a partner with local site leads to help them execute successful campaign strategies that identify and overcome political obstacles, use effective communications, leverage relationships and partners, and build coalitions when needed.

Coordination of the Policy Delivery Team and Vision

Under supervision of the Global Advocacy and Political Strategy Lead, build capacity for strong campaigning and political strategy across the Alliance and its partners, and work closely with the communications lead to amplify successes and build visibility for the Blue Nature Alliance on the global stage.

Cultivate and maintain relationships with technical partners, government contacts, and key leaders.

Track and leverage political leaders to accelerate site work and identify new scoping opportunities and scan geopolitical space and progress that may impact the work of the Alliance.

Develop policy statements, papers and advice for the portfolio. Promptly review and provide comments on draft policy proposals, regulations, and white papers to internal and external audiences as needed.

Support collating best practices and curating lessons learned on weathering political instability and change and build political durability for ocean conservation across the Alliance and partners and collaborators where appropriate.

Develop processes for the Alliance engagement in advocacy and campaigning efforts globally and play a central role in coordinating the Blue Nature Alliance engagement in key global events, including the organization of high-level receptions and events with partners and coalitions of governments.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, advanced degree preferred.

It is likely that a successful candidate for this role will have at least 8 years’ experience.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Project management and campaign experience in an environmental conservation field.

Demonstrated experience working with governments and NGOs to advance policy goals.

Demonstrated experience working effectively in diverse cultural contexts.

Highly organized with attention to detail.

Key attributes and preferred experience

Expertise relating to Indigenous perspectives, conservation finance/environmental economics, political advocacy and/or management of ocean or land-based conservation projects.

Fluency in a language other than English – French and Spanish desirable.

Travel

This position is expected to include strategic domestic and international travel to support local partners in country campaigns and for meetings and conferences. Frequency of travel to be defined based on need.

MISSION:  For more than 50 years, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida has been a leading environmental advocacy organization dedicated to protecting Southwest Florida’s water, land, wildlife, and future.

PURPOSE OF JOB:
Provides primary leadership and technical expertise for Conservancy water resources policy and Everglades Restoration, focusing on Western Everglades projects. Oversees technical analysis and policy formulation for staff on subject matter expertise. Manages projects and programs that will shape policy recommendations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Advocacy and Representation:
• Advocates, lobbies, and acts as the primary spokesperson and technical expert on water resources. Provides a communication bridge between the Conservancy and the community, elected and appointed officials, media, civic organizations, and stakeholder groups on policy issues.
• Educates local, state, and federal governmental agencies and policymakers regarding these issues.
• Reviews and provides recommendations on water resources issues. Provides oversight, review, and support for Policy staff in determining formal policy positions.
• Represents the Conservancy and provides testimony, when necessary, at public meetings, hearings, and governmental gatherings.
• Acts as a spokesperson for the media on relevant issues.
Policy Analysis and Development:
• Monitors and reviews issues related to water resources, including select Everglades Restoration projects and water issues related to the Greater Everglades ecosystem. Conducts research and provides technical analysis on these issues.P
• Prepares documentation in support of policy recommendations. Compiles record materials to support Conservancy advocacy and potential litigation, such as comment letters, contract consultant expert reports, and scientific/technical information. Develops relationships with advocates, experts, and partner organizations.
• Provides analysis and drafts white papers, comment letters, position statements, and advocacy materials.
• Collaborates with policy staff on state legislative advocacy priorities and strategies.
Supervision and Management:
• Makes hiring decisions in conjunction with the Director of Environmental Policy.
• Manages projects and contractors for planning, execution, and delivery of projects related to water resource policy.
• Provides technical review of staff work products in specified subject areas and delegation, prioritization, policy strategy, expectation-setting, and follow-through.
Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Building:
• Cultivates relationships and enhances communication with governmental and non-governmental entities, including advocates, experts, and partner organizations.
• Participates in environmental committees and boards as assigned.
• Develops and writes content for various Conservancy publications and assists in marketing and communication efforts to promote policy issues across various mediums.
• Provides testimony on behalf of the Conservancy at public meetings and hearings.

Education and Experience
• A bachelor’s degree in environmental policy, environmental studies, natural sciences, or a related field is required. Master’s Degree preferred.
• Minimum of five years’ relevant experience with a Master’s degree or seven years’ relevant experience without.
• Proficiency in Florida-specific water regulations.
• Knowledge of fundamental ecological principles, wetland terminology, mitigation principles, hydrology, and South Florida’s wetland communities.
• Strong commitment to biodiversity conservation, environmental quality, and natural resource preservation.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with various interests.
• Basic understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) preferred.
• Proficient in using information systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
