We design and carry out programs and projects that promote smart policies, secure equitable public funding, and build strong constituencies for protecting nature, addressing the climate crisis, and advancing environmental equity and justice. Since RLF’s founding in 2000, we have partnered with philanthropy, nonprofit organizations, community groups, government, business, and academia to protect more than five million acres of land and ocean spaces, advance critical climate and environmental justice policies, and generate more than $30 billion in new public funding for conservation, equitable outdoor access, and climate initiatives.

The Director of Communications and Policy is an accomplished leader and strategist responsible for developing and advancing effective public policy, public funding, and communications initiatives in support of our programmatic and institutional goals, in service of and close collaboration with executive leadership, program directors, and staff. As a member of our Leadership Team, the Director also provides cross-program alignment and coordination with respect both to communications strategy and support, as well as to development and execution of our policy agenda at the federal, state, and local levels.

The Director oversees a communications team that supports a combination of programmatic and institutional priorities, and a California policy and government affairs team that works in service to programs to advance our priorities in Sacramento. The Director will be responsible for building additional government relations and communications staff and consultant capacity as needed.

This position is full-time, exempt, and reports to the Vice President and General Counsel. This is a remote position with regular travel to Sacramento required and other geographies where RLF engages likely.

Duties Include:

Policy

In close collaboration with executive leadership and program directors, develop and lead effective policy and public engagement campaigns to advance programmatic and institutional priorities.
Help to strategically develop, align, and employ the full range of the 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) advocacy capabilities, including lobbying and limited political advocacy where appropriate.
Collaborate with program staff to conduct or commission policy, public opinion, and other field research. Support integration of research insights and recommendations into advocacy, grantmaking, communications, and additional programmatic engagement as appropriate.
Ensure programs, policy team, and campaign partners are supported with needed policy analysis and with development and drafting of public comments and bill language.
Help to align and coordinate cross-programmatic efforts to build and maintain collaborative relationships with policymakers, advocates, and other stakeholders. Help build and lead coalitions to advance program priorities.
Ensure RLF, FBF, and SAF are effectively represented in key settings, meetings, and coalitions.
Help cultivate policy and related advocacy skills among program staff.
Supervise policy and government relations staff and support their professional development.

Communications

In close collaboration with executive leadership and program directors, develop and lead effective communications strategies and support to advance RLF, FBF, and SAF priorities, including for internal institutional (including staff and board), programmatic, and external communications needs.
Coordinate crisis and rapid response communications, including media engagement, by the communications, legal, and executive teams.
Work with executive leadership, program directors, and staff to ensure RLF, FBF, and SAF are well positioned and effectively represented in communication with external audiences, including through earned media, philanthropic sector publications, self-published materials, and speaking engagements.
Advise and train program staff on effective communications strategies and tools, and where needed, assist in identification and selection of consultants to advance program goals.
Supervise communications staff and support their professional development.

Cross-cutting

Cultivate, expand, and make the best use of staff, advisors, consultants, and grantee engagement.
Assist in fundraising for RLF, FBF, and SAF through collaboration with and support for the executive, program, and development teams.

At least 10-15 years of experience in government, public policy, campaigns, communications and/or advocacy.

Ocean Policy Analyst

The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) is a 501(c)(3) independent, international, non-profit advocacy organization based in Washington, DC, with proven records of triggering and affecting systemic change to protect the Earth’s environment. Over the span of more than three decades, EIA has established a unique paradigm of methods – including pioneering the use of undercover investigative techniques to expose environmental crimes and drive change. These crimes include illegal trade in endangered wildlife, illegal logging and associated trade in illegal timber, illegalities in the extractives sector, and the trade in both climate-damaging and ozone layer-depleting gasses.

Since its founding in 1989, EIA has led efforts to protect elephants, rhinos, cetaceans, and their habitats around the world and has directly brought about positive changes in international laws and government policies that have saved the lives of rare and endangered species and reduced illegal logging and associated timber trade.

EIA-US is seeking to hire a talented and highly motivated full-time Ocean Policy Analyst to join the Wildlife and Ocean Campaigns Team to dedicate their energy and creativity to further its strategic campaign goals. The position is based in Washington, DC.

The position will entail a wide range of responsibilities, including:

Work with team members to implement multifaceted campaigns.
Support EIA’s ocean-related campaign work, focusing on underwater noise reduction as well as other relevant initiatives within the broader marine wildlife and habitat protection campaign portfolio.
Conduct outreach and advocacy to promote marine conservation.
Represent EIA within the NGO coalition at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) specifically related to ocean noise reduction from commercial ships and other elements of clean/green shipping advocacy globally.
Engage with government officials in the U.S. and abroad to promote stronger protections for vulnerable marine mammal populations.
Produce briefings, reports, memos, letters, public comments, and other communications deliverables.
Work with EIA Communications Team to create advocacy and messaging content to promote campaign initiatives and raise awareness.
Assist with grant report writing and proposal drafting.
Traveling internationally and domestically as required.
Support the team/campaign work with other tasks as needed.

Wildlife Policy Specialist, Offshore Wind Energy

We advocate at the federal, state, and local levels to establish and implement ambitious offshore wind commitments and to ensure stringent wildlife protections, strong labor standards, community benefits, and stakeholder engagement are in place every step of the way.

To support our mission, the Offshore Wind Energy Program’s Wildlife Policy Specialist advocates for responsibly developed offshore wind power. In this role, you will report to the Senior Policy Specialist, Offshore Wind Energy and assist NWF and key wildlife advocacy partners in developing and advocating for policy positions that avoid, monitor, minimize, and mitigate risks and benefits of offshore wind power development to wildlife.

Your major areas of responsibility:

Work closely with NWF staff, contractors, and partners to identify solutions-oriented recommendations for avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating impacts to wildlife from offshore wind power development, with the aim of supporting responsible, large-scale development
Represent NWF’s offshore wind energy positions in internal and external communications
Support the Senior Policy Specialist in the drafting, review, and circulation of comment letters on offshore wind permitting, as well as the tracking of comment deadlines and the input of commenting data
Develop fact sheets, talking points, white papers, and other communication materials to support NWF’s offshore wind program as well as provide leadership on these issues to the broader conservation community
Fulfill limited administrative tasks as needed, including scheduling, note-taking, and maintaining and organizing digital records

Qualifications:

Technical knowledge and at least 3 years of experience relating to clean energy generation, wildlife protection, and relevant policy solutions
Education or experience that demonstrates working knowledge of wildlife biology, and/or habitat and ecosystem function
Excellent writing and communication skills, particularly geared toward conveying technical details to decision-makers, as well as distilling key advocacy messages for partners seeking to understand and potentially amplify our positions
Being a self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to put plans into action and meet deadlines

Outreach Director, Government Affairs

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) is a fast-paced, innovative nonprofit seeking an organized, motivated individual to join our D.C. office. Our mission is to empower people with breakthrough research to make informed choices and live a healthy life in a healthy environment.The Outreach Director, Government Affairs position is a full-time position based in EWG’s Washington, D.C., office. Director, Environmental Public Policy

This position is responsible for implementing programs and strategies to enhance PepsiCo’s federal and state policy standing in the environment space and help achieve the company’s environmental Public Policy and Government Affairs objectives. Compensation & Benefits

The expected compensation range for this position is between $113,300 – $226,600 based on a full-time schedule.

Extension Agricultural Legal & Policy Specialist

New Mexico State University is searching for a dynamic individual with a law degree (JD) and an agricultural degree, Bachelors required, Masters or PhD degree preferred in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Business, or closely related field to serve as an innovative and collaborative extension specialist in the Extension Animal Sciences and Natural Resources Department (EASNR) of the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences (ACES).
The Legal and Policy Specialist will conduct analysis and provide professional interpretation on federal, state and county statutes and policies influencing agricultural and natural resources in New Mexico. As a member of the Cooperative Extension Service, the Legal and Policy Specialist would be teaching and providing scholarly programs beyond the classroom to a broad diversity of New Mexico citizens and stakeholders. The position would not have a formal teaching appointment but would be available to guest lecture in the classroom

Associate State Policy Director

The American Flood Coalition is a nonpartisan group of more than 400 elected officials, local leaders, military groups, and businesses that have come together to advocate for national solutions to sea level rise and flooding. The Coalition advances resilient and equitable solutions that support adaptation and recovery in flood-affected communities and protect our nation’s residents, economy, and military installations. With a uniquely singular focus on flooding and sea level rise, a creative approach to finding solutions, and an appreciation for deep community partnerships that leverage existing efforts, the Coalition seeks to significantly improve how communities around the country adapt to flooding and sea level rise.

Position Summary

We are seeking an Associate State Policy Director to drive policy development in the Coalition’s core geographies of Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. The position will join our growing Coalition Team, which is responsible for supporting and engaging AFC’s national community of Coalition members, and for advancing state policies to address flooding and sea level rise. This position is new to AFC, and was created to provide forward-looking policy development, analyze existing state policies, and recommend improvements to state programs. The ideal candidate will be a driven policy professional who has outstanding analytical, project management, and collaboration skills, and is able to synthesize complex ideas and information, learn quickly, formulate messaging, and share knowledge effectively. Due to the highly collaborative nature of this role, this full-time position will be located in our headquarters in Washington, DC. This position will report to our Senior Coalition Director and will also work closely with our State Programs Director, Flood Planning Director, State Directors, and Strategy Team. Up to 15% travel per year should be expected in this role.

Responsibilities

Drive AFC state policy development: Drive AFC’s collaborative and iterative internal state policy development process, with an emphasis on posing strategic open questions, generating and synthesizing key insights from across multiple AFC teams, and applying excellent project management skills to develop clear and impactful policy proposals.
Conduct in-depth policy research: Ensure that AFC policy concepts are informed by sound research by identifying and evaluating relevant previously passed policies and developing clear synthesis summaries that can be used to grow internal AFC awareness of the state policy landscape we are operating within.
Gather external insights and identify opportunities for building state flood resilience: In collaboration with State Directors and other AFC team members who frequently engage externally, systematically and strategically gather input from key local, regional, and state level stakeholders on existing flood-related policies and identify new strategic opportunities.

Qualifications

At least 7 years of relevant experience, including applied experience with state, federal, or local resilience policy and/or programs, preferably related to flooding, water, disaster mitigation, or infrastructure, required. This could look like experience in a state legislature or state agency, local government, or policy-focused nonprofit.
Applied knowledge of relevant state legislative processes and mechanisms required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Proven track record leading collaboration across multiple teams to achieve high-impact work products and outcomes required; experience collaborating frequently with virtual team members preferred but not required.
Experience working in or with local/regional government entities preferred but not required.
Willingness to travel between DC and AFC’s focus states up to 15% of time required.
Willingness to register as a state lobbyist is preferred, but not required.

Associate Director, Environmental Sustainability

Purpose:

This position is responsible for managing the development, implementation, maintenance, and global oversight of environmental sustainability programs within the scope of responsibility. This individual will take action to lead on emerging Environmental Sustainability topics, regulation, and disclosure.

Responsibilities:

· Develop Global EHS standards, policies, systems, and lead programs associated with emerging Environmental Sustainability topics and regulation.

· Provide EHS leadership and direction for management, professional, technical, and support staff for Nature & Biodiversity as well as Forestry programs.

· Provide EHS leadership and direction for management, professional, technical, and support staff for emerging Environmental Sustainability disclosure.

· Partner with internal stakeholders from ESG, Finance, Legal, and Government Affairs to meet the requirements and deadlines for emerging disclosure.

· Oversee the global collection of Environmental Sustainability data and develop the necessary processes to make that data available for existing voluntary disclosure and emerging regulatory disclosure.

· Lead initiatives and partner with internal stakeholders to improve the maturity of our Scope 3 data and calculation processes.

· Provide business perspective, strategic and tactical direction to develop and implement environmental sustainability initiatives for the EHS Long Range Plan.

· Authority to represent AbbVie externally on matters related to environmental sustainability with external regulatory agencies and non-government organizations.

· Maintain a comprehensive understanding of local, regional, and global EHS regulations and practices for environmental sustainability.

· Scope of position has global reach, represents company with external organizations, prepares or contributes to sustainability related content for external reporting and disclosure.

·Bachelor’s Degree (Environmental Sciences, Sustainability Studies, EHS related, or Engineering) plus 10+ years of Environmental Sustainability related experience OR master’s degree (Environmental Sciences, Sustainability Studies, EHS related, or Engineering) plus 8-10 years of Environmental Sustainability related experience.Environmental Sustainability related experience in Manufacturing, R&D, or corporate environments are required.Professional certification is preferred, but not required.

·Working experience developing and implementing Environmental Sustainability programs and managing cross functional teams.

Climate Change & Sustainability Analyst

ICF is at the forefront of preparing leading-edge analyses, identifying viable market solutions, building real-world management tools, and implementing programs to account for and manage carbon emissions, and decarbonize our economy. Our team works with all levels of government, multilateral institutions, and commercial clients to develop greenhouse gas emission inventories and carbon footprints; conduct greenhouse gas mitigation policy analyses; implement solutions-based climate programs; develop climate action plans and sustainability strategies; and support organizational sustainability.

We are seeking a Climate Change & Sustainability Analyst who will be responsible for supporting ICF managers on projects related to greenhouse gas accounting and reductions, lifecycle analysis, and use change, biodiesels, and climate and sustainability planning. Projects will range from technical, data-driven analyses to writing reports for general audiences to supporting external workshops and communication activities. You will be an essential member of 2- to 10-person project teams that will depend on you to help create accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services. You are likely to work on multiple projects, interact with all levels of staff, and have some client interaction. What you’ll do…

Preferred Qualifications:

3 to 5 years of demonstrated professional work experience in climate and sustainability related.

Strong data and quantitative skills, experience with data visualization or IT development is a plus.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Excel for complex analysis.

Technical knowledge around Life Cycle Assessment and GHG emissions accounting.

Knowledge in land use, ecosystem carbon accounting, and agriculture is a plus.
