Program Assistant

Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) is seeking a Program Assistant to join our team in Connecticut working to protect New England’s environment for all people. The Program Assistant will provide key administrative support for CLF’s Clean Energy and Climate Change and Environmental Justice programs in Connecticut.

The Program Assistant will also provide administrative support for CLF’s Connecticut office,

including the state advisory board, scheduling meetings, financial tasks, and development efforts. The Program Assistant reports to the Vice President for Connecticut and will be based in New Haven, with some opportunity for remote work within the state.

What you’ll do

Provide general administrative support to Connecticut staff, such as planning meetings and events, taking minutes and notes, assisting with legal filings, coordinating information technology needs, and covering office reception.
Support development efforts for the Connecticut office, including coordinating visits and calls to donors and assisting with the planning and execution of special events.
Oversee a variety of office management responsibilities, including on-boarding of staff, board members, and interns, financial tracking and reporting, and assuring the smooth operation of all Connecticut office activities.
Conduct research on laws, policies, and best practices.
Prepare reports, memos, public comments, and presentations.
Draft public education materials, blogs, and social media posts.

Course / Program Description

This course provides a broad overview of global business practices in sustainability, designed to help students develop a strong foundation in this complex subject. The primary focus is helping students understand the business rationale for sustainability. Students examine why and how a business is addressing environmental and sustainability issues across sectors and industries. Additionally, the course covers the various principles, models, methodologies, and
indicators of sustainability to help students understand how global business awareness and practices in the field have evolved since the concept first emerged in the 1980s.
Job Description

A teaching position is now available for a Global Business Practices in Sustainability course. Qualified applicants possessing current knowledge and teaching experience in the following topic area(s) are encouraged to apply:

This course is delivered partially IN PERSON. Applicants must be available to teach in person in Los Angeles.
Instructor Duties:

• Develop and/or update course syllabus in consultation with the UCLA Extension Program Director as assigned using approved syllabus template
• Prepare and deliver course materials and learning assessments in assigned format (in-person, online or hybrid)
• Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System as the course support platform for in-person courses and as the delivery platform for online and hybrid courses
• Communicate teaching objectives and specific learning outcomes to students and clearly outline the grading policies for the course
• Evaluate student achievement of specific learning outcomes and assign grades
• Post final student grades to the transcript system in a timely manner no later than 2 weeks after the last date of course meeting

Staff Attorney/Senior Attorney

The Environmental Integrity Project (EIP) is accepting applications for a Staff Attorney to join our team working to hold industrial polluters accountable for compliance with the Clean Air Act and other environmental laws. Working with EIP’s team of lawyers and analysts, the Staff Attorney, who will support EIP’s Clean Air and Climate Programs, will work to reduce air and other pollution from industrial sources through litigation and federal and state administrative permitting and rulemaking processes. EIP takes legal action to clean up pollution; we publish data-driven reports that push federal and state regulators to better protect public health; and we work with frontline communities to obtain the protections of our environmental laws. EIP works across the United States, but this position will have a special focus on industrial sources located in Texas and the Gulf Coast.

Responsibilities

Associate Counsel or Sr. Counsel, Regulatory/Legislative

NYSERDA is seeking a motivated, dynamic, and resourceful attorney in its Office of the General Counsel to manage a portfolio of legislative, regulatory, and programmatic matters. In this role, the attorney will be exposed to a wide range of issues across various NYSERDA programs, state policy initiatives and regulatory processes. Primary Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

Policy Analyst

We are seeking a policy analyst to conduct one or more research projects at the intersection of advanced nuclear energy and environmental justice. The policy analyst will research, write, and present their findings and contribute toward the organization’s growing body of knowledge and policy recommendations. They will educate key stakeholders, including policymakers, on their findings and grow their professional networks by collaborating with external partners.

This policy analyst will play a critical role in the execution of our work to advance the consent-based siting of domestic nuclear waste. The analyst will help identify and engage with interested communities around a consent-based process that would enable the successful and equitable siting of a potential future spent nuclear fuel facility.

The ideal candidate will have a professional or educational background in one or more of the following:

Climate and Energy Policy Advisor

The Climate and Energy Policy Advisor supports The Nature Conservancy in Maine’s policy and conservation goals by engaging in policy analysis, research, and direct lobbying. They work with the Director of Government Relations in Maine and chapter leadership to develop and advance our policy priorities related to climate and energy issues. As part of the Public Affairs team, they coordinate with conservation staff and build relationships between TNC Maine and state agencies including regulatory bodies, elected officials, the private sector, and non-profit partner organizations. While this position focuses on energy and climate policy in Maine, our work is within the context of the larger region and involves coordinating and strategy design with TNC climate and conservation staff across the northeast and North America.

Duties include working within a highly matrixed organization to execute strategies for advancing organizational policy priorities that integrate climate action with biodiversity/conservation goals and community needs (with a particular focus on those most impacted by climate change and energy transitions). The person in this role will track, engage, and influence state legislative and administrative actions related to renewable energy deployment, energy infrastructure and siting, and climate goals and mitigation plans. Some federal policy work may be involved in coordination with our Director of Government Relations.

Program Officer, Environment and Community Health

The Program Officer for Environment and Community Health is an integral part of a close-knit team working to shape and execute the Foundation’s strategies to protect and improve the physical health of our communities and the preservation of our environment by advancing environmental justice and prioritizing health equity in Allegheny County.The program officer is a fierce and committed advocate for programmatic and policy-level interventions that are necessary to promote equitable access to land, air, and water, safeguard the health of communities of color by preserving their environments, build agency within communities to advance environmental justice and ensure access to high quality, affordable, accessible and culturally responsive health care and health-related services. This individual participates in programs, capacity building efforts, and special initiatives to strengthen the systems and infrastructure dedicated to environmental justice and protecting and improving the health of individuals and families in Allegheny County. The program officer is responsible for managing a responsive and proactive grant-making portfolio that enhances the nonprofit sector’s ability to identify and address, in a culturally responsive, respectful and comprehensive manner, strategies that support community-centered conservation and stewardship of natural resources, center communities in environmental decision-making, increase access to quality health care services, and amplify the intersectional nature of working to protect the health of our communities and the preservation of our environment.

The program officer will work closely with the Center for Philanthropy and the Development & Donor Services staff to create productive partnerships with Foundation’s donors and will work with internal and external colleagues to strengthen the Foundation’s capacity to create impact and to foster a community where all individuals can thrive. This position will also work closely with the Community Partnerships and Learning staff to facilitate convenings with local and regional stakeholders related to public health and environmental issues.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Grantmaking

Independently manage grants in the environmental action and basic needs portfolios from application through interim and final reporting.
Evaluate grant applications, performing essential due diligence and evaluation of grant applications and communicating with grant-seekers regularly through virtual and in-person meetings and conducting site visits as part of the review process.
Represent grant-seekers by preparing and presenting written grant summaries and grantee progress reports to the Program Committee and other board committees.
Assess grantee progress and maintain ongoing communication with grantees to both understand their evolving needs and continuously improve the grantee experience.
Oversee and execute participatory grant-making processes, including selecting and training grant reviewers, facilitating grant review panels, documenting panel decisions, sharing panel recommendations and evaluating the participatory grant-making process.
Create and manage advisory committees to inform and evaluate grant-making and program initiatives.
Identify challenges facing grantee organizations and networks and ensure that the grant portfolio helps to meet those needs in areas such as leadership and governance, financial sustainability, racial justice practice, and through convenings, sharing best practices and other technical assistance.
Work with the director of grantmaking to assure full utilization of the Foundation’s field of interest and special purpose funds to execute grantmaking that fully aligned with donor intent and the Foundation’s funding priorities.

Communicate with nonprofit agencies, public and private funders, and the general public about the Foundation’s grant-making priorities, guidelines, and proposal review process.

Community Engagement

Build and maintain strategic relationships with diverse thought leaders, funders, nonprofits and other key stakeholders to shape the Foundation’s environmental action and physical health priorities and support effective collaboration.
Serve as a resource and thought partner to external stakeholders who are interested in learning more about or advancing work that is aligned with the Environmental Action focus area.
Develop and implement convenings on issues relevant to the grant portfolio and for the benefit of grantee partners and the communities they serve; track decisions and next steps, disseminate notes and coordinate follow-up actions; when appropriate, collaborate with the VP, Community Partnerships and Learning.
Develop and/or participate in foundation-initiated and community-led convenings that center truth-telling about racial and economic injustice and create space for dialogue and healing that builds momentum toward community-driven solutions.
Regularly attend meetings, events, celebrations hosted by grantees that showcase the organization’s work.
Meet with potential applicants, individually or via information sessions, to help them understand the Foundation’s grant process and strategic priorities.
Represent The Foundation, when assigned, in local and regional partnerships that address critical community needs.

Public Policy and Community Impact

Participate in the development and implementation of convenings with key stakeholders to identify and activate the foundation’s role in public policy and community impact efforts and, when needed, facilitate sessions.
Elevate to Policy and Community Impact staff policy and advocacy issues that are identified through the grant-making process and other program-related convenings that align with the Foundation policy agenda and/or impact areas, as well as emergent, time-sensitive issues of critical importance to the Foundation’s priorities.
Share content knowledge and expertise with policy and community impact staff, acting as a resource and thought partner to inform the design, implementation and/or evaluation of public policy efforts that relate to the Environmental Action portfolio.

Research and Learning

Contribute to the development of criteria to evaluate the effectiveness of the environmental action portfolio and participate in the evaluation of the results.
Identify timely and reliable sources of research to understand and respond to key issues related to environmental justice, health equity, ecosystem conservation, and climate change.
Participate in efforts to fully engage the individuals served by the Foundation to assure that their voices and lived experiences inform grant-making priorities and strategies.
Participate in efforts to aggregate, and commission where necessary, research that effectively captures and describes the context and causality of factors that impact the quality of life for diverse populations across Allegheny County.

Donor Engagement

Collaborate proactively and responsively with Development and Donor Services staff to serve donors in meeting their philanthropic goals.
Participate in Center for Philanthropy programs in order to contribute to a culture of excellence in donor education, donor engagement, “co-creationâ€ of giving opportunities, and increased alignment between Foundation and donor giving on significant community issues.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Post-secondary education in a related field of study with at least five years of relevant experience, preferably within the nonprofit or public sectors; an advanced degree in public health, sustainability, environmental science or similar fields of study preferred.
Knowledge and track record to serve as a critical advisor and subject matter expert on strategies to advance environmental justice, climate change interventions, and health equity; knowledge of related federal, state and local policy is a plus.
Familiarity with, but not necessarily a professional background in, philanthropy and philanthropic processes.
Creative and analytical writing skills, with a focus on being able to synthesize complex concepts, information, and recommendations succinctly and effectively for decision.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and manage deadlines and to work independently.
Strong written and verbal skills; demonstrated persuasive and respectful presentation skills for communications with internal and external stakeholders, and people from the communities we are working to reach on a range of complex issues.
Experience working with racially, culturally, and economically diverse communities.
Strong technical proficiency and the ability to quickly learn to function with the Blackbaud suite of products and Foundant.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related applications.

Are you passionate about the environment, protecting water resources and providing your neighbors with the highest quality water possible? If so, we have a great opportunity for an Environmental Compliance Specialist, under the direction of the Environmental Compliance Manager. The Environmental Compliance Specialist will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative tasks to support Aqua’s compliance functions in accordance with compliance initiatives and regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Schedule sampling for all systems at the appropriate times and assist operators and managers with sampling issues. Records and monitors test results on Excel spreadsheets or appropriate databases. Contact the state to correct any discrepancies. Ensure compliance with sampling requirements by reviewing chain of custody forms, checks sample codes, and work with the labs to ensure complete and accurate paperwork for each sample and track sample results. Ensure that all monthly and quarterly samples are collected. Review the test results for compliance. Report any exceeding amounts to the responsible departments (internal managers).
Draft compliance reports and compiles data for reports. Organize and track compliance work for inclusion in reports, including field data. Issue work orders and schedules for additional compliance work. Plot and graphs data, and tracks compliance.
Review inspection reports and regulatory correspondence. Share information with others electronically and draft response letters. Issue work orders for compliance repairs. Meet with operators and managers to discuss inspection reports. Work with engineer and managers to draft responses.
Prepare and maintain sampling plan including monthly bacteriological, lead and copper, disinfection by-products, and others for all systems and updates sample sites as needed. Ensure all samples are collected and reviews data.
Collect flow and pumping data from groundwater wells to ensure compliance with all applicable permits.
Communicate urgent information to supervisors and operators and customers regarding water quality inquiries. Serve in an advisory/training capacity towards plant staff on sampling and proper test procedures to ensure compliance.
Reviews inspection reports and regulatory correspondence, meeting with operators and managers as needed to gather details and discuss results. Partners with engineers and management to draft responses.
Coordinates and oversees environmental programs including water and wastewater sampling programs at assigned states.

QUALIFICATIONS:

BA/BS Degree required (Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences degree preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

2-4 years related water/wastewater operations or compliance related experience preferred
Experience working with databases and computerized maintenance management systems preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Excellent written and verbal communications skills; communicate effectively (clearly, concisely and professionally) with internal customers
Strong customer service skills
Ability to work well under pressure
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
A team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Perform sedentary work- exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
