Environmental Scientist

Our Laboratory Services Department is seeking an Environmental Scientist to perform analyses on source, drinking, power plant cooling, ground, and wastewater samples.You will have the opportunity to analyze water and wastewater for a variety of organic and inorganic analytes and interpret data for our water and wastewater treatment plants, all while working in one of our progressive laboratories. You will also work alongside a dynamic and highly skilled group of scientists whose priorities include evaluating, testing, and producing the cleanest drinking water in the region while keeping environmental protection at the forefront of our efforts. A day in the life of an Environmental Scientist may include:

Preparing, testing, and analyzing drinking, source, and wastewater samples in compliance with applicable standards (e.g., ASTM, EPA, SM) in support of the SDWA and CWA

Conducting advanced analytical testing including general chemistry, organic and inorganic analysis, disinfection-by-products analysis, and other testing using advanced and highly specialized instrumentation

Operating sophisticated analytical instrumentation, including GC-MS, IC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS– and troubleshooting, configuring, maintaining, and repairing instruments

Performing complex qualitative and quantitative analyses, reviewing and validating data, and preparing quality control reports

Conducting quality control monitoring for CWA, SDWA, and 503 Regulations for Inorganics to comply with EPA requirements

Please note that working occasional holidays and weekends is required for this position.

Who You Are

Relevant and progressively responsible environmental laboratory testing and analysis experience

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related field

Knowledge of and skill with advanced instrumentation

Knowledge of and skill with GC-MS and LC-MS/MS are beneficial

Previous experience with method development and validation is preferred

Environmental Analyst – Wetlands & Long Island Sound

We’re looking for a passionate environmental analyst to join our team of dedicated and resourceful water experts. As a part of the Water Quality Division, you will work collaboratively with internal and external partners to support NEIWPCC’s clean water priorities in the Northeast. In this role, you will:

Serve as the project officer for the Long Island Sound Study by drafting and implementing workplans, budgets, contracts and grants, and supervising regional staff implementing the program.
Organize and lead workgroup meetings of state and federal stakeholders on wetland and biological assessment subjects.
Work with NEIWPCC leadership to identify and address regional priorities associated with the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) and Clean Water Act.

A master’s degree in environmental studies, natural science, public health, earth science, biology, chemistry, or related field, and related technical or professional experience.

Position Logistics

Geologist/Engineer I

Lead Renewable Energy Engineer

This position offers you the opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the detailed electrical design and project management of utility-scale renewable energy projects. As a Lead Renewable Energy Engineer in our Electric Grid Infrastructure Services business unit you will:

Interact with renewable energy developers during the development or project conception phase and support the execution of engineering and design project work.

Engineering Project Manager

Your Role:

Responsibilities of this position include preparation, oversight and review of work products, including performance of calculations, preparation of technical memoranda and reports, construction plans and technical specifications, preparation of cost estimates and feasibility studies, permit applications, and interpretation of federal, state and local agency regulations; planning and implementation of investigations; and data analysis and abstraction. The position also involves client relations, new client business development activities including proposals, as well as communication with regulatory agency staff and direction of staff. The position requires travel to job sites and some field work.

The position is based out of Tetra Tech’s office in Middletown, NY. This role will require field visits and working from a job trailer from time-to-time. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, be comfortable collaborating with colleagues in-person and via Teams, emails, and teleconferencing tools.

Wetland Restoration Specialist

The Trust for Tomorrow is seeking a Wetland Restoration Specialist for a wide range of projects including wetland restoration, stream restoration and water quality BMPs. Frequent travel is expected, mostly in eastern North Carolina and South Carolina and occasionally in neighboring states (GA, TN). This position will work closely with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Wetland Reserve Easement Program (WRE) to plan and implement conservation easement projects primarily in the states of North Carolina and South Carolina.

Duties will include:

Assisting with the delivery of restoration projects, including construction supervision and inspection, to ensure wetland projects meet NRCS standards and specifications.
Providing preliminary plans, maps, access information, and other restoration and easement documentation.
Assisting with easement restoration designs and contracting.
Assisting with topographic surveys for both design and inspection including the use of GPS-RTK and laser levels.
Providing documentation for contracting and payment purposes to include the development of certification maps and tracking tables.
Attending necessary meetings with NRCS, private landowners and contractors for representation and inclusion in program delivery.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in a science-related field and demonstrated knowledge of wildlife habitat restoration techniques including wetland and stream restoration practices. Three (3) years related experience is preferred.
Experience working with state and federal agencies, private landowners, and contractors – experience with USDA Farm Bill programs administered through NRCS is strongly preferred.
Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills.
Experience with construction techniques used to restore wetlands, streams and associated upland habitats.
Experience in taking accurate field surveys using RTK, GPS, laser level and other surveying equipment, as well as the ability to keep accurate field notes during site survey and construction.
Must be computer literate and proficient with Microsoft applications including spreadsheets, internet and computer applications. ArcGIS and AutoCAD skills and experience are preferred.
Individual’s primary work location will be remote. Frequent travel to project sites throughout North Carolina and South Carolina will be required, including some overnight travel.

Salary will be based on experience and qualifications with a projected starting base salary range of $45,000-$48,000.00, as well as a health insurance stipend of $500 per month to be paid through salary.
