Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among a diverse student population. Environmental Technician

This classification is responsible for assisting the Storm water Coordinator conduct field inspections and related follow-up correspondences. Duties and responsibilities include surveying storm drain outfall, conducting municipal facility inspections and training, assisting the Storm water Coordinator / Engineering Technician facilitate outreach and education projects, storm drain outfall surveys, the Stream Cleanout Program, municipal facility inspections and training, and assists the Director on various other assigned projects. Under general supervision, reports to the Director of Public Works.

Assists with review of as-built drawings of all storm water facilities and roadways for completeness and accuracy of information while maintaining close correspondence with engineer of record for final review.

Inputs GIS information related to existing and new storm water infrastructure, major watershed basins, impaired waterbodies, etc.

Assists in project management of various Public Works projects as assigned.

Addresses citizen complaints in regard to storm and drainage water.

Coordinates with contractors to ensure proper completion of projects in accordance with specifications related to drainage and storm water.

General Description of the Position

The Environmental Engineer position reports to the Associate Research Director (ARD) and the Associate Dean of Research (ADR) at Delaware State University (DSU), College of Agriculture, Science, and Technology (CAST). CAST seeks to address major society-scale challenges, including cost-effective infrastructure renewal, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and sustainable and resilient built environments that support diverse and equitable social systems. The Environmental Engineer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to conceptualize and develop innovative engineering approaches to quantify and simulate complex, multifaceted agriculture systems issues. This role serves as technical advisor for developing, evaluating, and implementing Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation policies with special emphasis on conducting research, analyzing data, effecting environmental statutes and regulations, and related approaches for developing and revising policy. The Environmental Engineer will lead efforts in drafting legislation and regulatory policy addressing climate adaptation and mitigation efforts in enforcement and compliance activities. Examples of emerging areas of interest include, but are not limited to, next generation concepts for high performance, sustainable, and low-cost materials; new approaches to materials/processes for decarbonization or electrification; application of advanced computational and data science methods in modeling, simulation, and design; end-to-end, concept-to-product integration of environmental engineering for efficient operation. Applicants should have proven research experience beyond a Ph.D. and articulate how their developed research program will integrate with or facilitate collaborative interactions within and beyond the discipline. Hydropower Coordinator

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible for leading the Department’s Hydropower and Dams Program. This includes evaluation of state water quality certification applications as part of the FERC relicensing process and assisting owners of hydropower and non-hydropower dams via implementation of the Maine Waterway Development and Conservation Act, Natural Resources Protection Act, Maine’s water level laws, and the Federal Clean Water Act. The position works in close coordination with state and federal natural resource agencies to provide regulatory guidance to dam owners regarding Maine’s water quality standards and to protect Maine’s natural resources through implementation of the controlling laws. The Hydropower Coordinator will work in a fast-paced environment, supervise staff, review and process project applications, coordinate with other agencies, prepare draft decisions for the Commissioner, and address water level concerns and complaints. Periodic travel to Augusta is required even if the selected candidate is based in a regional office. The successful candidate will shape and implement hydropower and dam management policies to ensure natural resource protection and serve as the public face of the Hydropower and Dams program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced education, training, and/or experience in environmental science or a related scientific field and demonstrated experience directing, assigning, and appraising work for project teams, analyzing and processing permits, applications, licenses, and technical information, and drafting policies, rules, regulations, and/or complex technical documents in a scientific and/or legal field. Manager, Environmental and Scientific Affairs

The Manager, Environmental and Scientific Affairs is responsible for managing scientific research and outreach on the environmental safety of cleaning products and their ingredients using state-of-the-art tools and resources. The incumbent will be responsible for research initiatives related to chemical databases, environmental modeling, sustainability, and science education.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Master’s degree in environmental sciences/engineering, public health, or a related field, with 3-5 years of work experience. Degrees in related fields will be considered when presented with relevant work experience such as in database management, toxicology, risk assessment, or epidemiology.
Understanding of chemical hazard and exposure data, including environmental risk assessment.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to interact productively with both internal and external stakeholders, including non-scientific audiences.
Experience with managing contractors and academic partners on scientific projects.
Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects.
Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), a must; skilled in research using the Internet or other technical resources; and possess the ability to navigate and manage a website.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as the program and technical lead on scientific projects related to the safety of cleaning products and ingredients such as the Cleaning Chemistry Catalog (C3) and the aquatic environmental GIS fate model iSTREEM.
Keep abreast of emerging science and policies, monitor technical literature, and write and review technical reports, white papers, and publications for peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Prepare status/progress reports for presentation to ACI’s senior leadership and members.
Develop and administer program budgets and resources allocation.
Develop and deliver scientific messaging for external stakeholders such as at scientific and technical conferences and meetings.
Facilitate and manage ACI expert technical groups.
Assist with project management, including technical and administrative assistance, as assigned.

Supervisor Water Quality & Environmental Compliance

Primary Role

Carries out the day-to-day management of personnel or multiple operations to continually meet all drinking water lead regulations. Provides technical support on water quality, treatment, permitting, laboratory management, and regulatory compliance issues. Ensures Company policy on water quality and related environmental matters.

Key Accountabilities

Assists local, State and Federal regulatory agencies during inspections.
Responds (on-call) to Water Quality problems, taking appropriate corrective action including documentation to advise management.
Ensures that customer complaints or inquiries are properly addressed to attempt to resolve any issues.
Reports on problems and issues regarding Water Quality and standards.
Assures that policies, programs, standards of performance and approved objectives related to water quality are adhered to.
Assists in the procurement of treatment chemicals and manages receipt of chemical supplies to assure adequate supply along with monitoring equipment, chemical feeds, etc. to ensure standards are maintained.
Assists with training of plant operating staff, field services and other water quality personnel in treatment practices and environmental initiatives.
Supports water quality activities related to the Environmental Management Program to ensure compliance with SDWA/CWA regulations are continually met.

Knowledge/Skills

Strong working knowledge of water and/or wastewater treatment.
Thorough knowledge of water quality and environmental regulations affecting the business.

Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
Minimum Two (2) to four (4) years experience in water, and/or wastewater, and laboratory operations preferred.

Certifications & Licenses

Class A Water Operator license preferred, or ability to obtain within 4 years.
Valid Driver’s License with clean MVR.
