The City of Davis Public Works Utilities and Operations Department is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Water Quality Compliance Specialist, focused on stormwater quality, to join their Environmental Resources Division team. DEFINITION

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This journey level classification is responsible for independently performing professional duties in support of the City’s drinking, wastewater, stormwater, or recycled water quality programs. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Areas of expertise include programs related to drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, or recycled water quality programs, including permitting and compliance functions.

Education:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in environmental studies, chemistry, biology, resource management, sanitary engineering, public administration, or a related field.

Experience:

Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in compliance activities regarding drinking water quality, wastewater quality, stormwater quality, recycled water quality, or a related field.

Director, Environmental Programs

Based in Miami, Florida, the Director, Environmental Programs will be the leader responsible for managing all of the environmental initiatives for Royal Caribbean International’s (RCI) Private Destination Development organization. The director will provide overall leadership in developing the environmental strategy for the development of private land-based destinations. In addition, the director will lead the team responsible for overall planning, assessment, strategy, execution, and monitoring of all environmental activities through the development lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and proven track record in leading the environmental stewardship for complex land development projects from inception through construction and eventual operation. Given the complexity of this role, the ideal candidate will require strong leadership capabilities, a proven track record delivering complex land transformations, and strong technical expertise including (but not limited to) environmental impact assessments (and associated studies), environmental management plans, best management practices, and environmental monitoring during construction and operation.

This role will require close collaboration with a number of roles within the Royal Caribbean Group (RCG), including, but not limited to, leadership responsible for private destination development, leadership responsible for private destination operations and Vice President & Head of ESG for the corporation. In addition, this role will also collaborate with external environmental partners, construction contractors, and various government agencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the overall environmental program for Private Destination development, including internal (employees) and external (contractors) throughout the land development lifecycle (land selection through design/construction and into operation).
Develop (create/edit/maintain) the environmental strategy, principle, and practices of our private destination development.
Ensure that RCG’s environmental policies and the environmental principles and policies of private destination development are being effectively carried out for all projects (existing and new) in accordance with all relevant rules and regulations.
Ensure that RCG’s environmental policies and the environmental principles and policies of private destination development are incorporated into the design of new projects and project expansions.
Ensure that RCI’s environmental and hazardous materials policies applicable to shoreside operations are in compliance with all applicable national and international regulations and that there is an active feedback and corrective action process.
Provide guidance and expertise to the responsible disciplines throughout the lifecycle of a project including: site selection, design, construction, and operations.
Provide guidance and assistance for enhancing and improving projects by incorporating the environmental stewardship, vision of the corporation, and Product Development’s environmental principles.
Manage the relationships with various environmental partners, including both internal (corporate ESG, island environmental officers, etc.) and external (e.g., consulting agencies, independent contractors, etc.). Directly manage the relationship with environmental monitoring consultants contracted for private destination environmental monitoring.
Manage environmental compliance audits, analyze trends and develop corrective action programs.
Continue to innovate and stay abreast of emerging environmental trends and technologies, including (but not limited to) waste, water and energy systems.
Develop environmental awareness programs for guests and employees.
Provide expertise in all matters involving future environmental protection issues that might affect Product Development’s shoreside projects.
Give timely guidance to team members on all environmental issues, including pollution prevention using techniques such as minimization, reuse, recycling, treatment, and proper disposal.
Evaluate new projects, sites, and existing projects to ensure any environmental impact is minimized and that the environmental and hazardous materials policies are observed.
Monitor environmental programs for compliance with all policies, including reviewing the periodic environmental reports and self-assessments.
Provide training, resources, and guidance for the relevant internal environmental stewards and team members for new and existing projects and associated equipment, environmental strategies, operating requirements, and new technologies.
Investigate environmental incidents and accidents as directed.
Recommend action to prevent the occurrence of any environmental nonconformity’s relating to the product, process, and quality system.
Identify, record and act on any environmental problems relating to the product, process, and quality system.
Strive to establish positive working relationships with environmental groups in order to promote RCG’s environmental standards.
Keep all private destination environmental documents and programs fresh and up to date.
Produce and deliver quarterly environmental presentations.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

Ten+ years of environmental leadership and experience.
Bachelor’s degree required in environmental science, biology, or another closely related field; MBA preferred.
Previous experience in the environmental principles and practices in complex land-based development.
Solid understanding of environmental principles around waste, water, energy and construction.
Extensive knowledge of International and U.S. environmental rules and regulations.
Preferably a university degree in environmental sciences.
Strong training and facilitation skills.
Ability to develop, plan and organize tactical plans utilizing project management principles.
Ability to communicate tactfully with department heads, managers, coworkers and employees to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.
Ability to effectively apply the RCCL environmental policies and practices and Product Development’s environmental principles.

The Role

Responsible for assisting CCR Environmental Managers with environmental due diligence, agency consultation and permitting efforts of responsible solar development, and providing compliance support to construction divisions and operation divisions for community and transmission-scale solar, battery storage and transmission facilities in the Midwest and Northeast U.S. Regions.

Responsibilities:

Assist internal Environmental Managers and project developers with standard environmental diligence processes, technical scopes and consultant selection and management.

Assist with environmental due diligence, natural resource studies, and data management for development and acquisition opportunities.

Reports typically include, but are not limited to: Phase I ESA, wetland and waterway delineations, desktop environmental screenings, habitat evaluations, threatened/endangered/sensitive species surveys, avian and bat use surveys, and post-construction monitoring studies.
Assist with reviews of plans for management of environmental matters during site construction and operation. Plans include, but are not limited to: SPCC, waste management plans, construction oversight plans for compliance with respect to species protection and archaeological resource protection.
Assist in development of protocols or trackers to manage ongoing compliance requirements during operations and maintenance.
Participate in regional and national initiatives, symposia, conferences, and industry groups as needed to achieve Company objectives.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or an Environmental-related field from an accredited college/university.
Experience and expertise interpreting federal and state environmental laws (e.g., ESA, NEPA, CWA, etc.), guidelines, and policies.
3 – 5 years professional experience in environmental permitting and/or compliance. Experience in IL, PA, OH, NY, MA, MD, and/or CT a plus.

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of South Carolina (USC) invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of The School of the Earth, Ocean and Environment (SEOE). Research Scientist – Biosystems Engineering & Soil Sciences

JOB DESCRIPTION: The research scientist will have the following responsibilities: conducting hypothesis-driven research that involves both field and laboratory work on soil carbon cycling and soil health in agroecosystems, presenting and publishing research findings, training undergraduate and graduate students and visiting scholars, involving in grant proposal writing, and undertaking laboratory management responsibilities. This is a grant-funded position, so the position will be terminated by the cessation of the funding.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in Soil Science, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Environmental Science, Soil Microbiology, or closely related fields. Demonstrated postdoctoral research experience (2-3 years) in soil biogeochemical processes in agricultural systems and peer-reviewed publications are required. 2-3 years of experience in soil-ecology based research project and publications. Experience in data analysis, including microbial community analysis, is also required. Strong oral and written communication skills, excellent work ethic, ability to work independently and collaboratively, experience in training undergraduate and graduate students, demonstrated skills in analytical instrumentations, and a valid driver’s license are also required.

Natural Resources Technician

Make an impact:
Join the City of Salem’s Stormwater Inspections Team as a seasonal Stormwater Inspections Technician (Natural Resources Technician) in the Public Works Department. The person in this position contributes to the Salem community and local stream health by ensuring compliance with the stormwater inspections in accordance with the City’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit and Stormwater Management Plan requirements.

Learn and grow:
This is a wonderful entry-level position for someone looking to get their feet wet in the environmental and stormwater fields. The person in this position will work with two other stormwater inspections staff to inspect green and mechanical stormwater facilities in Salem.

What you will do:
The person in this position will assist the stormwater inspections technicians with both field and office work. Field work will consist of performing inspections of public and private mechanical and vegetated water quality treatment facilities. Our goal is to inspect a minimum of 1000 facilities annually. Upon completion of training, the Natural Resource Technician will also inspect facilities and perform field investigations independently. Office work will consist of organizing inspection information including locating, gathering, and organizing plans and as-builts, maintenance agreements, and more information associated with the facility inspection and maintenance. There may be opportunity to provide outreach to private stormwater facilities owners as well to support the environmental outreach, natural areas, stream cleaning, and environmental monitoring programs.

Lifting heavy objects with mechanical assistance is a common task of the job.
