Senior Fellow, Superpollutants

NRDC is seeking to hire a two-year senior fellow in our Climate & Energy team to help lead NRDC’s domestic efforts to phase down the super-pollutants called hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and support our international engagement under the Montreal Protocol in San Francisco, New York, or Washington, D.C. The employee will develop deep knowledge of HFCs or refrigerant-related policies and programs in U.S. states and abroad, the science and engineering behind key aspects of HFC replacement, and will be able to flexibly address other issues related to other climate super pollutants like methane, nitrous oxide, and other fluorinated greenhouse gases. The employee will work cross-functionally with a top team of lawyers, engineers, analysts and advocates to support policy development in these areas.

This is a limited term 2 year position.

Responsibilities

Provide technical and policy expertise to U.S. states developing and implementing HFC policies, both regulatory and incentive-based programs
At the federal level, support engagement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on regulatory actions to phase down the production and consumption of HFCs; reduce demand for HFCs in new equipment; and better manage HFCs from the existing installed base of HFC-using equipment
Support NRDC’s engagement with the Montreal Protocol as it phases down HFCs and more
Work with industry leaders and trade groups to promote state and local adoption of safety standards and building codes that allow use of low and near-zero warming HFC alternatives
Work with NRDC’s international partner organizations on analyses and publications
Assist in building out NRDC’s work on methane, nitrous oxide and other climate super pollutants
Work collaboratively with other NRDC teams to support cohesive and holistic policy approaches that integrate HFCs and other super pollutants into strategies for building decarbonization and more

Qualifications

B.S. degree in a science, engineering, or other quantitative field with interest in climate policy development, analysis, and advocacy. Ph.D., M.S. preferred
7 or more years of experience related to development or implementation of climate policy in the United States; Strong preference for experience related to HFCs, or other super pollutants
7 or more years of relevant experience developing and demonstrating key knowledge and skills:
Ability to analyze complex, multi-dimensional problems and make actionable recommendations
Ability to review, distill and summarize scientific and technical research for both technical and non-technical audiences

District Engineer

Description of Work

Provide guidance to District staff, applicants, and consultants on stormwater management, erosion control, and conservation of soil and water resources; develop review letters and meet with applicants to resolve technical issues.

Perform site visits, analyze hydraulic structures (bridges, culverts, basins, flood control projects), document findings, and prepare reports, correspondence, and logs.

Interpret and enforce federal, state, and local laws, codes, rules, and regulations; initiate corrective actions for deviations or violations.

Train and inform the public, officials, and professional groups on stormwater management and erosion control via workshops, presentations, and other media.

Establish and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal agencies; participate in regional and statewide conservation programs and trainings.

Design and implement watershed restoration and erosion control initiatives; promote stormwater management at a regional watershed level; assist in municipal stormwater ordinance and Act 167 plan development.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations, trends, and advances in the profession; attend workshops and training; maintain P.E. license and required professional development.

Prepare and complete forms, reports, correspondence, plan reviews, inspection reports, program evaluations, statistical analyses, and technical reports in a timely manner.

Manager, Restoration Ecology & Forest Resilience

The Ecological Restoration Institute (ERI) Restoration Ecology & Forest Resilience Program Manager leads the day-to-day management, coordination, and delivery of ERI’s Restoration Ecology & Forest Resilience portfolio in support of ERI and SWERI goals. The position applies subject-matter expertise in restoration ecology, forest and fire ecology, and wildfire risk reduction to advance proactive, landscape-scale restoration, fuels management, and conservation in frequent-fire forests and woodlands of the Intermountain West.

The position oversees a portfolio of externally funded projects and associated staff that design and implement field-based studies, evaluate restoration treatments and fuels management strategies, and develop science-based decision support for managers and decision-makers. Work integrates field, inventory, and monitoring data with modeling and analytical approaches (e.g., wildfire behavior, fuels, and landscape or vegetation dynamics models) to inform treatment planning, adaptive management, and long-term resilience strategies.

Responsibilities include maintaining program work plans, timelines, and budgets; supervising and mentoring professional staff and students; monitoring progress and compliance requirements; and supporting reporting and deliverables across multiple grants and agreements. The Program Manager collaborates closely with ERI program leadership and external partners and represents ERI as a subject-matter expert in collaborative forums, while supporting program growth through synthesis, identification of emerging needs, and development of new initiatives aligned with ERI and SWERI priorities.

Contracted Horseshoe Crab Research Technician

General Description

The contract horseshoe crab research technician will assist the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (MADMF) Invertebrate Fisheries Program personnel with a horseshoe crab telemetry study and ongoing horseshoe crab monitoring surveys, as well as at-sea and shoreside biological sampling of other commercially important invertebrates (lobster, whelk, crabs). The incumbent will assist other MADMF personnel as needed.

The Invertebrate Fisheries Technician position is currently a one-year appointment, with the option to amend or extend pursuant to performance, available funding, and at the discretion of MADMF.

Specific duties include

Operate small vessels in coastal waters
Deploy, maintain, and retrieve acoustic receivers in coastal waters
Tag horseshoe crabs with acoustic and conventional tags from shore and various-sized vessels
Conduct biological surveys in coastal waters, including work on beaches, salt marshes, and aboard small craft.
Record and organize data, including computer coding and data entry for computer analysis.
Assist with technical and non-technical report writing and graphical data presentations.
Operate and maintain field equipment, including specialized environmental data recording instruments, sampling gear, and motor vehicles, including small boats and trailers.

Qualifications Required at Hire

Ability to operate small boats, navigate coastal waterways.
Ability to work outdoors in non-ideal conditions, sometimes in the middle of the night, and lift 50 lbs.

Environmental Technician

This position is located in the Environmental Section of the Storm Water Quality Division in the Public Works Department within the City of Oklahoma City and reports directly to a supervisor. The Environmental Technician is responsible for ensuring the general compliance with applicable environmental codes, ordinances, and environmental protection standards. Knowledge of specific codes, ordinances and environmental protection programs may be required prior to assuming the duties and responsibilities of the position. Essential job functions include: driving to conduct frequent field inspections to assess environmental conditions; enforcing established environmental codes and regulations and providing effective remedies; responding to inquiries from citizens and complaints regarding environmental violations or concerns; responding to emergency reports of hazardous and/or non-hazardous spills or conditions; and conducting environmental screenings and samplings of ambient water and other potential environmental contaminants. The employee is also responsible for assisting with special activities or projects; attending meetings of environmental committees, agencies, and boards; generating routine reports; assisting with public awareness programs and special events; and maintaining laboratory supplies, equipment and materials used to sample and test water quality and conduct investigations. Possession of an associate degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field, OR a minimum of two (2) years’ applied experience in National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Storm Water Programs.
Skill in utilizing computers with specialized programs such as Arc Geographic Information System (ArcGIS) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
Experience in water quality-based assessments, stream biological/habitat assessments, fish/aquatic macroinvertebrate collection techniques, best management practice maintenance, storm water inspections, hazardous waste segregation, or enforcement of environmental-based codes and regulations.
Possession of a forty (40) hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Certification or other applicable regional or national certifications or licenses.
