Description

Performs intermediate technical work organizing and implementing public awareness programs for municipal environmental, water, sewer, and solid waste operations, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work performed under the limited supervision of the Environmental & Storm Service Manager.

Essential Functions

Develop, oversee, and deliver educational and public participation programs regarding environmental, water, sanitary and storm sewer, wellhead, stormwater and solid collections issues along with policies to schools, citizens, businesses, and employee groups. Assist in the development and implementation of environmental regulatory programs for Environmental Services and City storm water permit requirements. Assist with multi-departmental environmental efforts.
Prepare grant applications and manage grant implementation. Assist in the development and management of budgets for Environmental Services.
Coordinate and lead the activities of environmental advisory teams on Environmental Services programs and issues. Serve as resource person, develop plans, and implement programs for public relations associated with Environmental Services activities. Coordinate technical and clerical staff activities in the implementation of environmental programs.
Collect data and report on departmental environmental program implementation. Develop and implement strategies for furthering environmental protection within the community and provide recommendations for policy and procedure actions.
Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and informational brochures to support Environmental Services programs. Meet with businesses and residents to raise awareness of Environmental Services’ activities and obtain feedback. May act as City representative when asked to conduct public relations with the local media, other regional governmental agencies and services, businesses, residents, etc., for Environmental Services matters.
Function as team leader for multi-departmental environmental efforts.
Regular use of computers, software, and multimedia equipment to manage the activities of the program.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with coursework in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or related field.
1-3 years experience with environmental programs and campaigns.

Special Requirements:

Valid driver’s license in the State of Michigan.

Environmental Scientist

The GPI Albany, NY office is seeking a full-time, team-oriented, self-motivated Environmental Scientist with three (3) to six (6) years’ experience as a consultant and/or scientist in an environmental consulting firm or environmental/governmental agency.

Environmental Engineer Consultant

Assistant Professor, Marine Biology

The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position (9-month annual support) at the assistant professor level with a specialization in coastal marine ecology in the Department of Marine Biology based at the UAF main campus (Troth Yeddha’ campus) in Fairbanks, Alaska. We particularly encourage submissions from individuals with expertise in coastal marine ecology with a focus on either macroalgae and/or benthic invertebrates in intertidal or shallow subtidal waters. Ideally, applicants are certified scientific divers with an interest in contributing to our Scientific Diving Program through teaching and leadership roles within the program. Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified applicants must have a Ph.D. in marine biology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field. Postdoctoral research experience, successful proposal funding, and a peer-reviewed publication record are preferred. The ideal candidate has a strong scientific diving record. Manager, Environmental Projects

Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for a Manager, Environmental Projects in our Environmental Operations Group at the Material Recycling Facility operated by MES located in Derwood MD. This position will be responsible for providing technical and operation oversight for the Material Recycling Facility and related projects. This includes on-site management of staff, procurement, budget development and oversight, operations and maintenance of facilities and equipment, production management, heavy equipment, and safety and environmental compliance. This position will assist with communication between MES Headquarters staff in Millersville, Maryland and the site, and will interact with the safety staff, clients, contractors, and vendors.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in environmental science, engineering, ecology, anthropology or a related field from an accredited college or university plus eight years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management, five years of which must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and supervising environmental professional and technical staff, or responsibility planning, supervising, and conducting cultural resources evaluations, and managing and reviewing consultant work products to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.

Environmental Technician

Job Summary/Scope
Manages the operation and maintenance of a landfill gas extraction system that provides fuel for a waste to energy facility. Performs duties for other environmental monitoring systems at the landfill. Maintains records necessary for compliance with permits or systems. Assists the Superintendent with reporting and correspondence to state and federal regulatory agencies. No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.

Invasive Plant Management Crew Leader

The Alaska Center for Conservation Science (ACCS) at the University of Alaska Anchorage seeks a dynamic and experienced Invasive Plant Management Crew Leader to support plant identification and field documentation. The candidate will be responsible for identifying plant species and documenting their occurrence and distribution and record and assess field conditions, trends, and ecological correlations.

Invasive Plant Management: This will require the candidate to apply appropriate methods for invasive plant eradication and problem-solving. Safely store, handle and apply herbicides to target species.

Field Equipment & Safety: Requires operating and maintaining resource management tools and monitoring equipment; follow wilderness safety protocols an Leave No Trace principles.

Geospatial & Data Skills: Collect and manage GPS and GIS data using ESRI software.
Conduct quality control and assurance for geospatial datasets.
