DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Become familiar with Kirkwood’s environmental compliance needs (including but not limited to waste compliance, air emission compliance)
Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure compliance and permits
Update and write standard operating protocols (SOPs)
Maintain accurate records related to waste inventories, inspections, hazardous waste shipments, and air emissions
Coordinate lab packs and other waste disposals
Maintain college’s emergency spill response protocols and equipment
Conduct and coordinate inventories of hazardous wastes and hazardous materials
Use the CampusOptics software for compliance and risk reduction (chemical inventory, inspections, and other activities)
Provide environmental training to and interact with employees to ensure safe handling of waste, appropriate waste packaging, and disposal procedures for worker and environmental health
Conduct on-site inspections
Perform other related work duties as assigned

Principal Consultant, Environmental Project Manager

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant with consulting experience in evaluating air quality and established client relationships, to play a key role in growing our business in the Philadelphia, PA office. The ideal candidate will have established relationships with energy sector companies, along with technical expertise leading NEPA and multi-media environmental permitting for a broad range of energy infrastructure projects in Mid-Atlantic region. The ideal candidate will also have experience drafting Environmental Impact Statements as a third-party contractor for USCG, MARAD, BOEM, or other federal agencies. This position will focus on providing NEPA analysis and environmental permitting support for renewable energy, electric transmission and distribution projects, offshore work, and midstream oil and gas projects. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience leading environmental siting and impact assessments under NEPA for energy infrastructure and other large capital development projects, overseeing staff in a project setting, obtaining federal and state permits, plus strong technical writing and communication skills. RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage and provide technical expertise preparing EAs/EISs and associated management plans in compliance with NEPA, serving in roles ranging from lead technical expert to QA/QC. Experience with both applicant-side and third-party contractor roles preferred. Achieve client’s expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
• Lead preparation of federal, state, and local permitting documents with an emphasis on Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, but also including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, and other various state and local agencies.

Environmental Sampling Technicians

Field & Technical Services LLC (FTS) is a growing and innovative environmental service provider for several sites across the United States. FTS is headquartered in Carnegie, PA and has numerous branch offices.

Responsibilities include travel to various sites across the United States performing sample collection of but not limited to groundwater water, surface soil, sediment, waste water and storm water. Field duties include water level data collection, field parameter collection, well and site inspections and data collection using Mobile Management Data Collection (MMDC). Work also includes managing tasks with pre- and post-field activities such as maintaining field instruments, prepare equipment for future events, and preparing field activity reports. Area of Specialization: We seek a colleague whose research and teaching focus on the intersections of race, gender, or indigeneity with the environment. The successful candidate’s disciplinary training is open to any quantitative or qualitative social science approaches to interdisciplinary environmental studies, whether in a traditional disciplinary PhD or an interdisciplinary program.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in a social science discipline or interdisciplinary program, with a research and teaching focus on the intersections of the environment with race, gender, or indigeneity. Post-doctoral Fellow – Ecotechnology Engineering

The Algae Systems and Ecological Engineering Lab of Dr. David Blersch, with the Biosystems Engineering Department (http://www.eng.auburn.edu/bsen/) at Auburn University is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to conduct research on ecotechnology development for nutrient recovery from wastewater streams. The appointment is for an initial period of one year, with the possibility of renewal up to a four year period. The position is a 12-month, benefits eligible, non-tenure accruing position and is immediately available. Preferred starting date is August of 2023.

The candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to develop research investigating the remediation of wastewaters from aquaculture, poultry processing, and other industries using ecotechnological approaches, including wetland treatment systems and/or phytoremediation systems using algae cultivation. The research position is funded across two USDA grant funding opportunities focused on sustainable approaches to agricultural wastewater remediation. Opportunities exist to design and implement own experiments related to wetland treatment approaches to novel wastewaters. Contributions to grant proposal and research manuscript writing is expected and encouraged as well.

The minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Biosystems, Agricultural, Ecological, and/or Environmental Engineering or a related field with interest and/or background in ecological approaches to remediation of agricultural wastewaters at time of employment. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to translate research into publications, strong interpersonal communication and mentoring skills, and ability to work effectively as an individual and a member of a team. The candidate will be able to design, develop, and build mesocosm-scale experimentation systems for investigation into ecotechnology, and previous research experience in ecological engineering approaches to environmental problems is desirable.

Desired qualifications include previous experience with analytics for characterizing water and wastewater and/or algal biomass.
