Water Quality and Environmental Compliance Specialist

The County of RiversideÔÇÖs Flood Control and Water Conservation District (Flood Control District) has an opportunity for a Water Quality and Environmental Compliance Specialist. The position will be filled at either the Assistant Flood Control Planner or Associate Flood Control Planner level and will be assigned to the Flood Control DistrictÔÇÖs Watershed Protection Division in Riverside.

Watershed Protection Division staff are responsible for a wide range of surface water resource management and protection activities requiring a detailed understanding of the planning, operating, and engineering characteristics of stormwater/flood projects and systems and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits governing such activities. Staff conduct and coordinate implementation of compliance actions required by NPDES permits; evaluate program implementation outcomes and effectiveness; prepare and coordinate preparation of required compliance reports and program implementation documents and ensure timely submittal to regulatory agencies; develop and manage consultant contracts as needed to complete required reports and special studies, and review and ensure quality of consultant products; coordinate continuously with NPDES Copermittees and regulatory agencies to ensure effective implementation of compliance actions; plan and coordinate implementation of public education and outreach activities; analyze environmental legislation/regulations for impact on municipal operations and compliance actions; respond to inquiries and complaints from regulatory agencies, municipalities, and general public regarding water quality concerns; and perform other duties as assigned.

Use in-depth knowledge of state, and federal environmental laws to evaluate NPDES permits and Watershed Restoration Plans and develop compliance plans.

Ensure NPDES permit compliance through implementation of plans and related programs internally and externally in coordination with Copermittees, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.

Environmental Engineering Program Manager

Placer County is comprised of over 1,400 square miles of beautiful and diverse geography, ranging from the residential and commercial areas of South Placer, through the historic foothill areas of Auburn, Foresthill, and Colfax, and to the County’s jewel of the North Lake Tahoe basin.

SUMMARY: To plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Environmental Engineering or Western Placer Waste Management Authority (WPWMA) section(s) within the Public Works Department; to coordinate section activities with other divisions or departments; and to provide highly responsible technical support to the Deputy Director and Assistant Director of Public Works.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Recommend and implement section goals and objectives; develop and implement policies and procedures.

Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the Environmental Engineering field, including two years of supervisory responsibility.

Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in business management, environmental studies, solid waste management, economics, civil engineering or a related field.

Conservation Scientist

The mission of the Michigan Natural Features Inventory (MNFI) is to guide the conservation of MichiganÔÇÖs biodiversity by providing the highest quality scientific expertise and information. MNFIÔÇÖs vision is to be the authoritative source of information on biodiversity that is widely used to conserve MichiganÔÇÖs unique natural heritage for current and future generations.

As part of MSU Extension (MSUE) and the Community, Food and Environment Institute (CFEI), this position provides leadership to MNFI and provides biodiversity and conservation expertise to CFEI. This position will have statewide responsibilities and will be housed at the MNFI office in Lansing, Michigan.

Working as the director of MNFI, you will provide leadership for the overall direction, management, and fiscal sustainability of MNFI, fostering and building relationships between MNFI scientists, conservation partners, and researchers and educators at MSUE and MSU. You will work directly with MNFI staff to facilitate strategic planning, program development, and fundraising. In addition, you will serve as the key contact to government agencies, NatureServe, and the Natural Heritage network, numerous conservation organizations, foundations, and other funders and cooperators.

In this role, you will understand, support, and communicate information about Michigan’s rare and declining plant species and natural communities, support the maintenance of MichiganÔÇÖs Natural Heritage Database, and work cooperatively with other MNFI personnel, public and private agencies, organizations, and individuals to inform and guide decisions that impact biodiversity conservation.

This position may be eligible to utilize a flexible work environment; however, there is an expectation to work from the MNFI office located in downtown Lansing. Senior Environmental Planner

Research: The assistant professor of computational agricultural and environmental science will develop a high-impact research program that integrates plant and soil sciences and data analytics to advance agricultural and environmental sustainability. Civil Project Engineer, Wind

New Leaf Energy is seeking a Project Engineer to support the development of wind projects as part of our expanding Midwest regional team in Chicago. We offer a hybrid work environment, allowing you to work remotely 2-3 days a week and from the office 2-3 days a week. This position may be filled out of the Chicago, IL office or remotely in IL.

New Leaf Energy is an experienced clean energy developer that partners with landowners, policy makers, and other stakeholders to accelerate the transition to a world powered by renewable energy. We identify high-value sites, work with landowners and local communities to develop them, and partner with long-term asset owners to bring the most impactful clean energy projects to life.

About the Role

The Project Engineer will work with a team of engineers, project developers, and engineering consultants to review, design and permit primarily wind, and some solar PV and energy storage projects. The successful candidate will be relied on to balance due diligence efforts with project risks for the continued development of projects for New Leaf Energy. The candidate will functionally report into the Director of Civil Engineering.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Doing site and zoning/bylaws review
Meeting with the state agencies, towns and other stakeholders
Presenting to planning/zoning boards and state agencies
Working with staff engineers with varying levels of development experience
Managing the survey, environmental and engineering sub-consultants.
Assisting in the continued development of standard details, notes, and specifications
Reviewing design drawings prepared by in-house or external designers

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
4-10 years’ experience in site development and permitting (municipal, state, federal) or equivalent
Civil PE License desired but not required
Wind, solar PV & Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) experience desired
Track record of developing energy projects at the local, state, and federal level
Experience in cost estimation, reviewing of engineering services contracts and managing subconsultants
Ability to work effectively with project developers, clients, consulting engineers, design, and technical personnel
Ability to effectively communicate design concepts and lead meetings between clients, project engineers, regulatory officials, and consultants
Creative, open-minded and possess the ability to modify and expand theories to find solutions within the confines of the bylaws and codes
Must be confident; must possess the ability to substantiate code interpretations and mathematically analyze design concepts
High energy, resourceful and organized engineering professional with the ability to manage multiple projects and coach early-career engineers
Solid written and oral communication skills are a must
AutoCAD Civil 3D and HYDROCAD (or equivalent design tools) proficiency is preferred. Salesforce experience a plus
Passionate about renewable sources of energy
