Sustainability Program Manager

Reporting to the Senior Director of Facilities Services, the Sustainability Program Manager is responsible for the overall management and oversight of the Office of Sustainability, providing strategic direction and innovative leadership to promote a culture of sustainability at JAX. The Program Manager will lead, develop and maintain a program and implement initiatives to reduce the impact that JAX physical plant operations, construction and other practices have on the environment. The requirements of this position will require close coordination with and leadership of many internal and external constituents with a strong focus on greenhouse gas reductions, alternative transportation programs, building operations and maintenance, new construction and renovation, waste reduction, recycling, composting, and water conservation. Accountable for researching, developing, managing, administering, implementing and continually assessing sustainability projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Create and lead the Sustainability Implementation Committee (SIC). Host periodic meetings that are informed and productive, such that community stakeholders are motivated to support the development of JAX’s Sustainability Plan. Lead the further development, publication, and implementation of the JAX Sustainability Plan.
Maintain close partnerships within Facilities Management to collaborate on common goals and to infuse sustainability principles into physical plant operations and capital projects.
Working directly with JAX project managers, JAX building engineers, service providers and other resources to implement the sustainability program and initiatives. Work with JAX project managers on green building certifications and standards on renovation and new construction projects (e.g. LEED, Passive House, Living Building, et.al.).
Provide ongoing leadership and support to JAX Green Team Program on each campus and the many distinct sustainability efforts across all JAX campuses. Foster a culture of sustainability by engaging senior staff, administration, faculty, and staff with the goal of being an integrated JAX-wide program.
Oversee the preparation of JAX’s Sustainability tracking submissions to appropriate benchmarking programs.
Develop measurable sustainability data and metrics, analyze, monitor and report program performance, including energy and waste data to administration via written and/or verbal communication.
Oversee JAX Energy Dashboard including KPI creation and content data entry, maintenance and publication.
Publish, administer, and update the MyJAX Sustainability intranet page as needed.
Advocate for and obtain utility initiatives and other funding to implement projects in support of sustainability and the JAX Sustainability Plan with reasonable paybacks where possible. Seek out and apply for relevant grants. Administer paperwork with the Efficiency Maine program, maintaining database of submitted projects. Manage and report on use of established Green Revolving Fund (GRF)
With limited direction/oversight, lead, develop, implement, administer, document, and communicate comprehensive JAX-wide programs that promote sustainability.
Liaise with sustainability directors or equivalents at other institutions, businesses, and governments to share experience, best practices, and promote collaboration.
Develop and administer a budget. Work with others to identify budget and resource implications on their departments to implement the JAX Sustainability Plan.

Qualifications:

B.S. degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, or related field. M.S. degree in a related field desirable.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role in Sustainability, Environmental, Urban Planning and/or related fields.
Demonstrated technical knowledge in the field including project management, contract administration, and budgeting skills.
Demonstrated grant administration/writing experience preferred. Ability to establish and execute strategic plans and initiatives with self-initiative as well as working with stakeholders and committees.
Demonstrated strong leadership and project management skills.
Working knowledge of local, national, and global programs to reduce JAX’s impact on the environment.
Management of related environmental systems.
Ability to gather data, compile information, prepare reports and presentations and draft business correspondence.

Senior Manager

The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) is the national trade association for the solar and storage industry and represents more than 1,000 member companies and 255,000 Americans working across the United States.

The Senior Manager of the Southeast Region is responsible for the development and implementation of SEIA’s policies and positions in the dynamic and growing solar markets in the Southeast region. The position reports to the Senior Director of State Affairs, works closely with the Senior Vice President of Policy, and will work in close collaboration with other SEIA departments, including Regulatory Affairs, Research, Communications, and Membership.

The ideal candidate should have the desire and demeanor to build a strong network within the solar and clean energy industries and will have had professional exposure to energy policy and/or markets, and be familiar with enabling technologies such as storage, demand response, distribution management systems, and electrification. Familiarity with topics such as rate design, interconnection, and grid modernization policies, as well as renewable energy program design, is highly desirable. The successful candidate must be able to build relationships and be a natural collaborator. He or she is able to manage project teams effectively and facilitate dialogue with both internal and external colleagues.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

Candidates will have experience with the regulatory and legislative processes in the region, in the traditional or renewable energy sector.

Oversees regulatory & legislative activity in SEIA priority states in the Southeast, with a particular focus on established markets such as Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida
Familiarity with regional transmission organizations such as MISO-South and PJM, and well as the Southeast Exchange Market, a plus
Manages SEIA Southeast Committee and day-to-day activities in collaboration with company leads and Committee chairs/co-chairs. This includes facilitating regular calls/meetings with SEIA members, forming ad hoc working groups, and coordinating with internal SEIA staff as needed
Participates in legislative/lobbying initiatives
Drafts regulatory presentations and filings
Works with outside counsel, contract lobbyists and technical consultants as needed.
Collaborates with local and regional trade associations, SEIA state affiliates, other stakeholders and parties, consultants, etc.
Participates as available/necessary in other states and overall SEIA activities as time permits. Assists in planning yearly regional events with SEIA event staff

Professional Experience, Education & Other Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree is required.

Water Resources Scientist I

General Description of Duties

Under general direction, the purpose of the position is to assist in the technical, administrative and reporting duties related to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit and National Flood Insurance Program. This includes outreach to the general public, local and federal agencies, and industry stakeholder groups. Educational outreach components range from school presentations on pollution control to instructor responsibilities for professional development workshops. This position will assist in coordinating and integrating all activities toward achievement of established goals and objectives of the County’s Water Resources Program.

The Associate Director for Science (ADS) will support all aspects of the SCSC’s natural science research activities and will report to the Director of the SCSC. The ADS, in consultation with the Director, will be primary point of contact for all natural science research activities at the Center, including field work, to ensure that SCSC research reflects and advances the SCSC mission. The responsibilities of the ADS include:

Ensuring that all research spaces, including the SCSC Sea Lab and Dry Lab, are maintained to the highest safety standards and are supplied with the materials, equipment and systems needed to support Bowdoin student, faculty and visiting scientists.
Logistics related to the research enterprise at the Center and will be supported by the Research and Instrument Support Technician.
Working with the Director to develop both disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches and initiatives for researching coastal concerns.
Using advanced communication and project management skills to develop and implement research collaborations across stakeholder groups (e.g. – researchers, business leaders, students, community members, governmental agencies and legislators).
