Responsibilities

Collaborate with a team of professionals to develop work approach, schedule, and execute a variety of natural resource assessments for a multitude of environmental, energy, land development and water resources projects primarily in Vermont and the northern New England/upstate New York region.
Lead fieldwork in natural resource assessments including, but not limited to, botanical surveys, wildlife surveys, habitat evaluations, and rare, threatened and endangered species surveys, and may review the work of others to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Act as a field mentor and may manage field staff conducting the field surveys.
Participates or leads regulatory agency field reviews and/or project pre-application meetings.
Prepare technical reports or provides technical reviews to present the methods/results of natural resources assessments, primarily to support Projects seeking a Vermont Act 250 Land Use Permit or authorization under Vermont Section 248 Energy Siting Law.
Assist with preparation of state, federal, and local permitting applications.

Water Agency Surveying Technician I

The Sonoma County Water Agency (Sonoma Water) seeks a Surveying Technician I to join the Engineering and Resource Planning Division.

The Water Agency Surveying Technician I is the entry-level class within the Sonoma Water Engineering Technician series and will be a part of the Engineering and Resource Planning Division, working collaboratively with Senior Survey Technicians. Some responsibilities include:

Setting survey control points to conduct field surveys
Assisting with data collection with the use of land surveying field equipment
Utilizing surveying equipment and Global Positioning System (GPS) instruments to determine points, lines, elevations, and distances

Environmental Engineer

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division is seeking an Environmental Engineer in it’s Watershed Protection Branch-Drinking Water Program, located in Atlanta, GA

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position involves reviewing drinking water permit applications, draft permit conditions and issuing permit that comply with Georgia Rules for Drinking Water.
Apply engineering judgement and evaluate emerging water treatment technologies to determine whether to grant or modify a permit to operate a public water system in the state of Georgia.
Determine whether proposed municipal and private public drinking water systems meet all criteria described in EPD rules as well as Minimum Standards for operating public water systems.
Review, comment and approve all engineering reports, plans and specs, pilot studies, high-rate studies, water conservation plan, backflow prevention plan, standard operating procedures, operation and maintenance manual and other technical documents in conformance with the Georgia Rules for Safe Drinking Water and the DivisionÔÇÖs Minimum Standards for Public Water Systems. This includes projects on Water Distribution system improvements, wells and surface water sources, treatment processes as well as new or expanding Surface Water Treatment Plants.
Assist with Drinking water state revolving fund (DWSRF) projects and assist water system get loans from GEFA after reviewing the GEFA application, following the process of SOPs to issue CE or NONSI and address all significant environmental impacts or comments prior to approval.
Interact with public, water system operators, state inspectors, state and federal engineers and managers. Respond to water system inquiries with accurate information and in a timely manner.
Accurately update SDWIS (Safe Drinking Water Information System) database fields: active status, population, service connections, sources, treatment plant processes and objective facility flows, water purchases and sampling points for permitted water systems.
Perform sanitary survey inspections and routine startup inspections and provide technical assistance concerning drinking water issues, water supply sources, treatment facilities. Inform officials of inspection and corrective measures needed for compliance, initiate enforcement action to resolve violations of safe drinking water rules and regulations for permit conditions. Maintain records of investigation and inspections.
To get certified as a water loss auditor (QWLA) and annually review water loss audits for water systems subject to the water loss audit.
Maintain permit and engineering work database and spreadsheets for the Drinking Water Engineering and Permitting Unit, create permit metrics for monthly reports as well as record keeping practices.
Assist in updating Georgia Rules for Minimum Standards for Public Water System as and when required.
Have good communication skills including verbal as well as written proficiency.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in agricultural, chemical, civil, environmental or civil-sanitary or mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university AND One year of experience in professional environmental or sanitary engineering work.

Accountability

Environmental Planner

Job Summary

Under direction, is responsible for implementing United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and State of Michigan regulations. Evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering and planning techniques, procedures and criteria to complex environmental projects and programs. Work requires the application of detailed knowledge and includes some exposure to field conditions. Assignments usually have specified objectives requiring the implementation of programs and activities and some devising of new approaches to problems. Determines priorities within an assigned project. Works with administrative, engineering, technical, inspection, and maintenance staff to ensure that sound methods are followed. When assigned Water System duties, conducts water quality sampling programs, completes compliance reporting and planning, provides technical and administrative support and customer service. When assigned Lake Management duties, participates in lake improvement board meetings as required and provides educational materials to improve water quality. When assigned Environmental Unit duties, develops and implements public education and illicit discharge elimination programs necessary to comply with Phase II federal storm water requirements and to protect water quality. When assigned Asset Management Unit duties, facilitates proactive and cost-effective management of utility infrastructure assets using advanced asset management concepts and sustainable operations. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Employees of this classification are required to be available for operational problems, equipment emergencies, widespread storms, power outages and other operations and maintenance emergencies as deemed necessary by management after normal working hours, weekends and holidays. Responsible for effective supervision and administration including assisting with budget preparation, monitoring expenditures & revenue collection, recruitment and retention, staff development and training, succession planning, performance management, employee relations, staff discipline and recognition.
Prioritizes and assign work and evaluates resource needs and manages the effective deployment of resources. Manages refuse contracts such as hauling and grinding contracts.
Manages brush and bulk services in safe and effective manner with a focus on neighborhood cleanliness.
Works closely with Public Works administration, Citizens First & Solid Waste Enforcement to coordinate customer service and enforcement of solid waste ordinances.
Manages citizen solid waste convenient center operations to include a wood waste area.
Participates on city and departmental teams to provide input into the development of policies, strategic plans, research and other special projects, serves as liaison as needed to citizens groups or professional boards with concerns about solid waste collection.
Monitors and redesigns collections routes as needed.
Coordinates public relations and community outreach with the Communications and Public Engagement Department on matters related to solid waste.
Develops and supports neighborhood litter programs, clean ups and other special collections like household hazardous waste.
Assists with and/or leads disaster debris management.
Remains abreast of best practices, legislative, regulatory and policy development that affects solid waste operations.
Coordinates the use of available equipment, material and manpower to obtain maximum effectiveness and efficiency and identifies areas of improvement.
Monitors customer satisfaction by ensuring completion of routes, customer receipt of containers, and pick-ups of special and missed routes. Receives, and responds to internal and external customer concerns, requests and inquiries.
Inspects equipment for proper working condition; completes shop work requests, coordinates equipment maintenance and repairs, coordinates the availability of necessary equipment to perform daily collection activities.
Investigates incidents and accidents involving Refuse staff and completes all necessary forms and paperwork.
Maintains familiarity with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and ensure all drivers and trucks are compliant.
Coordinates the purchase of tools, materials, and safety items as needed.
Assists with preparation of specifications for the purchase of new equipment.
Reviews and approves employee leave requests and time sheets.

Education and experience equivalent to a BachelorÔÇÖs degree in either Public, Business Administration, Planning, Environmental Science or related field with extensive supervisory experience. Prior experience in refuse collection activities, either manual, semi- or fully automated systems, desirable. Comprehensive knowledge of practices and procedures used in solid waste collection to include some knowledgeable of transfer station/landfill operations.

Additional Requirements

Possession of valid Motor Vehicle License and acceptable driving record based on City criteria;
Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License
Relevant background checks must be completed and approved.
Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.

About the Role:

Alliant is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic professional to manage and lead our growing Environmental Services Group. This is a tremendous opportunity to lead a group of exceptional people, play a key role in elevating our group to the next level, and play a key leadership role in the overall company.

As the Director of Environmental Services, you will lead an established team of environmental specialists with expertise in environmental compliance, wetland delineation and permitting, and environmental documentation. You will be responsible for the group’s marketing efforts to build upon our current strength and identify opportunities for growth and expansion to new markets and clients.

Responsibilities:

Developing, championing, and advocating for the vision of Alliant’s Environmental Services Group
Expanding Alliant’s environmental service offerings through talent acquisition, training, and partnering
Managing workload, schedules, and other tasks needed to lead the group
Identifying future project opportunities and preparing technical proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimates
Collaborating with Alliant Transportation and Land Development project managers to ensure timely and quality delivery of environmental services
Communicating with clients and project team on project logistics and status
Managing quality of work and tracking project budgets and schedules
Mentoring staff and new hires to broaden their knowledge and professional skills
Representing Alliant at conferences and within professional organizations

Required Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Geology, Civil Engineering, or related field
Five to ten years of leadership experience in the environmental sector
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to communicate clearly through written and verbal communication
Proven ability preparing and presenting technical information to varied audiences
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service and fulfill commitments related to project deadlines
Thorough understanding of federal, state, municipal, and watershed district environmental regulatory programs, including NPDES, Wetland Conservation Act, MNDNR Public Waters, and Section 404 & 401 permitting
Thorough understanding of NEPA and MEPA requirements for Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA and EAW) and Categorical Exclusions (CATEX)
Experience working closely with owner, regulatory, and contractor staff on active construction projects
Proven track record preparing proposals, marketing, and successfully securing projects from varied clients
