Aquifer Monitoring Technician

The position reports to the General Manager and is responsible for providing technical services to the Victoria County Groundwater Conservation District and other entities supported by the District. Work tasks include measuring groundwater levels; collecting groundwater samples; developing and maintaining monitoring data and information; and any additional responsibilities assigned by the General Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Providing customer service to landowners, permit applicants, well drillers, staff of local and state agencies, and members of the public in a polite and courteous manner.
Collect groundwater samples.
Measure and document aquifer conditions
Maintain aquifer monitoring equipment.
Process groundwater sampling and field documentation.
Monitor water well casing placement and sealing of annulus space.
Process and maintain monitoring documentation.
Maintain spatial database of aquifer monitoring data.
Assist with public education and outreach effort regarding groundwater conservation.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES:

A high school diploma or equivalent required.
Education in geology, groundwater conservation, water well drilling, or environmental sciences is preferable.
Experience completing clerical tasks in an office environment is required.
Experience providing customer service and resolving customer issues is required.
Experience responding to correspondence is required.
Experience entering data into spreadsheets and databases is required.
Experience working with local governmental entities in water resources or related field is preferred but not required.
Experience in local government related to regulatory activities, permitting, or code enforcement is preferred but not required.

Professional Animal Care

Responsible for all aspects of animal husbandry pertaining to freshwater and marine fishes, elasmobranchs, invertebrates, reptiles, and amphibians

Experience and qualifications for success

Assistant Professor – Earth Science & Environmental Change

The Department of Earth Science & Environmental Change in the School of Earth, Society, and Environment (https://earth.illinois.edu/) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the flagship campus of the University of Illinois System, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Earth Surface Dynamics, with an emphasis on near-surface geophysics. We seek a scientist whose research addresses the physical, chemical, and biological processes that shape the Earth’s surface and near-surface environments—processes that influence water resources, landscape evolution, ecosystem health, and the mitigation of natural hazards. The full-time, 9-month (academic year) tenure-track faculty appointment is at the Assistant Professor level with a target start date of August 16, 2026.

We are particularly interested in candidates who use near-surface geophysical methods—such as seismic, potential field, geodetic, and/or remote sensing techniques—to investigate shallow subsurface structures and link surface processes to deep-time geological or climatic phenomena. Assistant Research Scientist

We seek an Assistant Research Scientist to join the long-standing right whale research team as part of the Kraus Marine Mammal Conservation Program (KMMCP). The position is split between North Atlantic right whale photo-identification catalog research and coordination between the Kraus Marine Mammal Conservation Program and other departments within the New England Aquarium, as well as external groups. The catalog research will involve right whale photo-identification processing, including image management, data entry and coding, and data quality control. The role will also involve operations support for the program, including budgeting, grants tracking, organizing and tracking deliverables, and internal and external collaboration.

This is a full-time, 1-year, grant-funded position with the possibility for extension. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule will be Monday–Friday from 9 am – 4:30 pm EST (35 hours/week with a 30-minute unpaid lunch period each day), and work will be conducted primarily remotely. A laptop will be provided, but a private, high-speed internet connection is required for remote work, as well as residence in one of the following states: MA, RI, NH, ME, NY, and VT.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

North Atlantic Right Whale Catalog (75- 80%):

Catalog duties will include entering sightings data, assigning images of individual whales to those sightings, coding images, sightings, and behaviors, and identifying individual right whales using the customized DIGITS software.
Manage and analyze data and images contributed to the catalog, including data backups and quality control; import data and images into the database.
Attend meetings and conferences related to right whales and other marine mammals to stay informed on the latest science.
If requested, conduct vessel surveys as an observer and data recorder for a maximum of two weeks/year; assist with right whale-specific data collection. On-the-job training will be offered for vessel survey work.

Coordinator (20 – 25%):

Serve as the team’s coordinator, supporting all aspects of the team’s work.
Understand and help to implement protocols and procedures for both the Anderson Cabot Center and the broader organization, including grants management.
Maintain and track the program budget, including maintaining accounting systems, helping to create proposal budgets, tracking budgets on various grants, creating and tracking grant spend-down plans, and creating systems to track staff time across multiple grants. Training in specific accounting software will be provided.
Track deliverables and other organizational data, including generating quarterly and biannual reports or updates for the Aquarium’s communications and development offices, respectively.
Compile annual reports for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
Act as an internal point of contact for programmatic questions.
Produce and/or source information needed for media requests. Draft newsletter articles, blog posts, and partake in other media and outreach efforts related to research projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Assistant Professor, Environmental Studies

Bowdoin College’s Program of Environmental Studies invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2026. We invite candidates with expertise in computational/digital approaches who can contribute to the interdisciplinary Environmental Studies Program. The subfield is open with respect to discipline. We are especially interested in candidates who will strengthen our curriculum by bringing in new competencies in areas including, but not limited to: climate adaptation; energy policy and just transitions; environmental and public health; GIS, remote sensing, and/or surveillance; landscape ecology; social and racial justice; social-ecological systems; sustainable transportation; and/or urban design and planning. Research Technician – Natural Resources & Environmental Science

The University of Nevada, Reno Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Science is recruiting for a full-time Research Technician *** This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. The multi-stakeholder, large-scale Adaptive Management Experiment (AMEX) is conducted over a massive spatial and temporal extent. The Research Technician oversees data management from a series of research forests spanning the north-south length of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, from LaTour Demonstration State Forest east of Redding, CA to Mountain Home Demonstration State Forest east of Fresno, CA. Totaling hundreds of study plots and multiple nested experiments, the AMEX project generates a vast quantity of data on an annual basis. The Research Technician is in charge of making sure that all this data is accurate and compiled in a way that is easily accessible to other researchers and collaborators. In order for research papers and analysis to be conducted efficiently, large quantities of raw data must be well curated. In addition to heading up the data wrangling effort, the Research Technician spends a significant portion of their time helping with general Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data management and creation, and map-making efforts as needed.

The Research Technician also fulfills a supporting role for their fellow crew coordinator. Especially during the spring and early summer months, the AMEX project sees an uptick in fieldwork demand. When these busy times arise, the Research Technician is tasked with direct fieldwork participation, as well as broader field crew management and training. Depending on the year and project status, field data collection efforts require anywhere from 4-12+ individuals (field technicians and field crew leads) spread across the research forests in teams usually consisting of 2-3 persons. The Research Technician will aid in logistics and personnel management. In addition to helping train crew members on sampling protocols, the Research Technician conducts field sampling quality control, and aids in communication between the crew coordinator, crew members, and project supervisors. Often, this work entails directing crew site placement, delegating crew tasks, and ensuring environmental/occupational safety

Required Qualifications

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in biological, soil or crop science or closely related field; OR

High school graduation and two (2) years of experience related to the assigned research area in which the applicant performed duties equivalent to preparing experimental field plots, preparing feed rations according to research criteria and collecting and/or recording simple field data; OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above

This position requires working in inclement weather and the ability to work in remote locations for extended periods of time.
