Technical learning position for Compliance Services working closely with Compliance Managers to learn all aspects of the service area, which includes field inspections, technical reporting, plan preparation, and quality of the work product. Perform technical deliverable review of aquatic resources reports and permit documents.
Lead and support agency and client coordination regarding permit programs and building trusted relationships.
Lead or support projects across a variety of projects including renewable energy generation, transmission, and other project activities in New Mexico and the southwest.
Provide technical oversight and quality assurance to SWCA project managers and water resources leads on projects involving surface water resources planning, and permitting activities in coordination with the NM4C Water Resources Team Lead and Directors.
Mentor, coach and potentially supervise water resources staff across the NM4C subregion in collaboration with the team.

Experience and qualifications for success

Stormwater Technician

This is a professional, administrative, and technical position responsible for stormwater and erosion control review of minor subdivisions, lot grading plans, and development construction plans in the Engineering Department. Work also includes maintaining compliance with Georgia EPD Phase II MS4 requirements, FEMA Community Rating System (CRS), Metro North Georgia Water Planning District standards, and other permitting requirements. This position also manages stormwater infrastructure maintenance, repair and replacement. Additionally, this position is responsible for investigating citizen complaints related to stormwater and related erosion and sedimentation. This position also involves the review of construction plans to ensure compliance with county regulations, acting as project manager, and is a technical resource for various departments, agencies, and other groups and individuals. Work is performed under the general direction of the County Engineer.

Maintains and updates Georgia EPD Phase II MS4 requirements, FEMA Community Rating System (CRS), and Metro North Georgia Water Planning District standards.

Reviews minor subdivisions, lot grading plans, and development construction plans for conformance with county ordinances, stormwater, water quality, and erosion control guidelines; administers plan review meetings with contractors and engineers to resolve problems concerning compliance with county policies and regulations.

Keeps track of new or reviews federal or state regulations, county policies and procedures, and applies information to plan and permit reviews.

Responds to inquiries, complaints, and problems for the Board of Commissioners, county property owners, and the general public in resolving drainage complaints, water quality issues, and other related problem areas personally or resolves them by contacting appropriate department, organization or person for resolution.

Inspects stormwater infrastructure including piping, channels, detention, water quality, and green infrastructure facilities to determine conformance with design criteria and potential upgrades.

Performs on-site stormwater infrastructure inspections, plan compliance review, gathering of field data, conducts final inspections and makes recommendations for site acceptance for County maintenance.

The Wetland Specialist I is responsible for assisting with wetland delineations and environmental permitting in the field and office. Assistance is furnished on unusual problems and is reviewed for application of sound professional judgement.

Research Technician

The Bruckerhoff Freshwater Community Ecology Lab is hiring a summer research technician to help collect fish, habitat, and water quality data in Ohio streams and rivers. This position requires extensive field sampling of fish and invertebrate communities using a variety of technique, including backpack electrofishing, seining, PIT tagging, and boat electrofishing. When not in the field, the incumbent would help with the following: 1) otolith preparation and aging; 2) sample sorting and identification of fish and invertebrates; 3) conducting experiments; 4) data entry; 5) GIS; and 6) data analysis and writing. Opportunities will exist to help with data analysis, manuscript writing, and/or independent research, depending on experience and interest.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in biology, ecology, fisheries, or a closely related field.

Required Qualifications

1 year of relevant experience required. Applicants must be detail oriented and have the ability to work both as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision. The individual must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work outside in all weather conditions. This position will require substantial time spent in or near water and handling aquatic organisms.
