Manager, Environmental Programs

Reporting to the Senior Director of Environmental, the Manager, Environmental Programs will ensure that RWE Clean Energy (RWECE) maintains compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and requirements. The manager will support the development of the Company’s environmental initiatives across the full lifecycle of RWECE projects, from development through decommissioning.

Responsibilities:

Works directly with the Senior Director and diverse, cross functional teams to successfully develop and implement environmental programs for all renewable energy assets in the US and Canada
Leads the development of selected elements of RWECE’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and generally support the development and implementation of the EMS in compliance with industry standards and best practices
Assists the Senior Director, Environmental with development of Environmental Staff and implementation of group objectives
Provides technical expertise to all phases of RWECE projects in any of several areas of environmental practice including but not limited to:
Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA) (i.e. NEPA, state level environmental review regulations, etc.)
Threatened and/or endangered species issues and take permits (i.e. BGEPA, ESA, MBTA, etc.)
Water and stormwater management for construction and operations (i.e. CWA, SWPPPs, etc.)
Chemical management, including spill prevention and control (i.e. EPCRA, SPCC, etc.)
Waste management (i.e. RCRA)
Coordinates environmental consultants conducting various environmental activities including preparation of scopes of work, assistance with requests for proposals, and review of reports/permit applications
Interfaces with various departments and organizations throughout RWECE including development, construction, and operations
Initiates and/or participate in meetings with state and federal resource agencies on behalf of RWECE
Participates in industry groups focused on environmental/wildlife issues and report activities to the larger team

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Civil/Environmental Engineering or related area of study
Minimum 8 years’ experience with environmental programs, including environmental permitting and compliance, in the energy industry, with a focus in renewable energy preferred
Demonstrated experience with consulting, construction and/or operations, including field work
Ability to analyze environmental regulatory and permit language for developing implementation guidance
Writing environmental program documents to support protected species permitting
Knowledge of protected species and ability to communicate through written and verbal communication

Assistant Professor – Environmental Science

The Division of Environmental Science at Texas Woman’s University invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor with an appointment starting in Fall 2025. Candidates should be engaged in innovative research in environmental science and have a clear vision for building an impactful research program with potential for extramural funding that includes both undergraduates and graduate students. Stranding Response Technician

The National Aquarium is seeking a Stranding Response Technician (Full-Time Seasonal through June 2025). The Stranding Response Technician will be providing regional emergency field response to and disposition of live-stranded marine animals and performing triage operations under the direction of the Stranding Response & Triage Manager. This position supports improving the capacity for field response to emergency events involving live marine mammals and sea turtles in Maryland. As scheduled, provide rotating after hours on-call coverage of the 24-hr Stranding Hotline.

NOTE: This is a field position and will be based out of the National Aquarium’s Stranding Response Center located in Ocean City, MD. The final candidate will be expected to reside in close proximity to this facility to ensure timely response to animal emergencies.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

Essential responsibilities include:

Lead incident response and triage of live stranded marine mammals and sea turtles along the Atlantic Coast and Eastern Shore of Maryland, according to established protocols.
Dispatch and coordinate volunteers, ensuring clear communication of roles and responsibilities, while prioritizing human and animal safety and well-being throughout the event. Provide exemplary care, welfare, and final disposition of stranded animals under the care of the National Aquarium in the field and in triage, including humane euthanasia cases, in conjunction with the Stranding Response Manager and veterinarians.
Lead care and treatment of pinnipeds and sea turtles undergoing triage, in conjunction with veterinarians and the Stranding Response & Triage Manager.
Accountable for the safe restraint and handling of animals during husbandry and clinical procedures.
Ensures accuracy of all stranding related records (animal, accession, and related) in accordance with federal and Aquarium standards using animal management software and hardcopy files.
Conduct necropsy of animals, in conjunction with veterinarians and MD Department of Natural Resources.
Improves capacity for field response to emergency events involving marine mammals and sea turtles, including mass strandings, live large whales, hazardous material spills, UME’s, natural disasters, out of habitat situations, and entanglement cases.
Implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Incident Action Plans (IAPs) related to stranding response; manages events under the Incident Command System and ensures volunteer and animal safety.
Maintains the triage facility; ensure readiness by maintaining equipment and supplies necessary for response, recovery, transport, and triage.
Implement Animal Rescue outreach activities and programs related to stranding response, with the goal of engaging the public and youth in action-oriented programs.
As scheduled, provide rotating after hours on-call coverage of the 24-hr Stranding Hotline, and provide exemplary customer service.
Communicates with the Regional and National Stranding Networks; collaborates with federal (NOAA Fisheries Service and US Fish and Wildlife Service), state (MD Department of Natural Resources) and local municipalities, as well as regional partners in matters relating to live-stranded marine mammals or sea turtles.
Supports digital content needs including photos, video, and website stories. Assists with public and media relations as directed.

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in biology, aquatic sciences, environmental or related science or equivalent experience
Minimum of two years previous professional work experience with a stranding response and/or rehabilitation organization including experience working with live pinnipeds
Employees assigned to this position must possess and maintain a valid and current motor vehicle operator’s license, have an acceptable driving record, and possess the ability to drive a variety of vehicles (cars, vans/trucks)
Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings
Ability to climb ladders, lift and carry 50 lbs, and physically restrain large, wild animals

Must be able to apply solid knowledge of biology to a stranding response & triage setting.

THE POSITION

How You Will Achieve It

Participates in the development and maintenance of the site EHS compliance and risk registers; ensuring that all regulatory, jurisdictional and Pfizer environmental policies are identified; and the compliance calendar is proactively managed.

Maintains active monitoring processes ensuring new / changes to local, federal, and company environmental requirements are effectively communicated, reviewed with key campus stakeholders and incorporated in applicable compliance programs and tools, including Legal Registers and Compliance Calendars.

Leads proactive preparation / renewal of environmental permit applications, inspections and required reporting covering all media, including air, water, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous and medical waste in accordance with local, federal and company requirements. Examples include but are not limited to Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act of 1986 (EPCRA) Tier II Reporting; Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC), Hazardous Waste Large Quantity Generator Biennial Hazardous Waste Report and Industrial Stormwater Conditional No Exposure certification.

Establishes mechanisms to ensure completeness and accuracy of environmental reporting; undertaking follow up where required and actively participates in governance review processes associated with submittal approval.

Leads environmental risk assessments ensuring the impact of change is evaluated and effectively managed to ensure emissions controls remain aligned with the campus environmental risk profile.

Leads the environmental technical program development, including program performance monitoring and signal detection to ensure continuous improvement

Ensures timely notification of environmental events / incidents and drives the environmental incident investigation process ensuring implementation of corrective and preventative actions.

In conjunction with key stakeholders schedules and conducts periodic self-assessments and in field inspections to ensure that jurisdictional and Pfizer Global environmental standards are rigorously applied.

Partners with business lines, facilities and engineering teams to drive environmental sustainability action plans aligned with enterprise and campus priorities.

Manages and oversees contract services provided by hazardous waste vendors ensuring service level, performance and financial accountability indicators are met.

Partners with the campus EHS Systems Manager to integrate environmental content within the site EHS training strategy.

Collaborates with environmental peers within the Pfizer network to embrace good practices and drive adoption.

Qualifications

Must-Have

Applicant must have HS Diploma with ten years of relevant experience; OR an Associate’s degree with eight years of experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of experience; OR a Master’s degree with more than three years of experience; OR a Ph.D. with 0-2 years of experience.

Relevant industry experience gained within a large academic institution, pharmaceutical R&D, or biotechnology setting,

Active membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., Institute of Hazardous Materials Management), ideally with a formal continuous professional development requirement.

Thorough knowledge of federal and jurisdictional environmental regulations, and their applicability to campus environmental program management

Environmental technical and leadership experiences and capabilities, aligned with campus environmental profile

Organized and detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to handle competing priorities and perform under pressure, bias for action

Possesses a collaborative spirit, effective influencing skills, strong project management skills

Nice-to-Have

Education in Environmental Mgt, or Environmental Engineering field preferred.
