WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT IN THE SCIENCE DIRECTOR ROLE

In this role, you will:

Spearhead and oversee the organization’s science program. Set measurable goals, objectives, and strategies to advance TFF’s mission and specific campaign goals.
Plan and execute original scientific research that will advance public and corporate policy to transition to safer chemistry.
Provide scientific expertise, data, and analysis to ground and guide the development of campaign priorities and plans.

Environmental Lab Assistant

The EPA National Student Services Contract has an immediate opening for two part time Environmental Lab Assistant positions with the Office of Research and Development at the EPA facility in Narragansett, RI.

The Office of Research and Development at the EPA supports high-quality research to improve the scientific basis for decisions on national environmental issues and help EPA achieve its environmental goals. Research is conducted in a broad range of environmental areas by scientists in EPA laboratories and at universities across the country.

What the EPA project is about

The Atlantic Coastal Environmental Sciences Division (ACESD) is responsible for coastal watershed, freshwater, estuarine, and coastal ecological research. The detection and quantification of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) is an important part of ongoing research. Staff use innovative analytical techniques to assess CECs and determine potential risk or stressors in aquatic environments.
Responsibilities

As a team member, you will provide laboratory support to PFAS research at EPA ACESD in Narragansett, Rhode Island. The team members will work with the ACESD PFAS team to oversee daily tasks including monitoring solvent supplies, putting away glassware, and overseeing laboratory consumable inventories. The team member will be trained in proper laboratory safety and quality assurance best practices to support a dynamic research group across many efforts. The team member will also be trained in basic sample collection and extraction techniques to assist in ongoing CEC/PFAS research. This includes sample weighing, vortexing, centrifuging, carbon clean-up, and solid-phase extraction techniques. The contractor will also work with team members to review data for quality assurance and data analyses. This participant will be a member of a multi-disciplinary research team focused on approaches to identifying and understanding CECs in the environment.

As this is a student services contract position, the team member will not be responsible for conducting independent research. However, there are ample opportunities for the student to advance their chemistry and analytical skills as they gain competency in basic laboratory tasks. The student may be asked to assist ACESD personnel in collecting field samples, extracting various matrices (sediments, water, biota), and perform data analysis in support of ongoing research. These tasks will be dependent upon student competency and availability on an as-needed basis.

Professor and Chair – School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability

Within this setting, the School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability (SEES) is actively engaged in both undergraduate and graduate education, research and service. The School represents the combined efforts of the Department of Geology and Geography that now include the B.S. in Geosciences (concentrations in geology and geography) and the Institute for Coastal Plain Science, along with the rapidly growing B.S. in Sustainability Science, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Science. In addition to being a significant player in the development of interdisciplinary sustainability and environmental degree programs, SEES is a substantial contributor to Georgia Southern’s Coastal Resilience Research Impact Area and is expected to be an integral component of environmental and sustainability teaching and research initiatives currently under development at the Wexford campus in Ireland. To this end, the individual hired to fill this advertised position will be expected to help contribute to the expanding role of SEES in both teaching and research.
Job Summary

Reporting to the Dean, the Chair’s workload distribution includes teaching (20%), maintaining an active research agenda (20%), participating in disciplinary and university service (10%), and administration of all aspects of the School (50%). Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Earth Resources

The Department of Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position in Earth Resources, beginning fall 2025. We are seeking highly collaborative applicants with expertise in mineral resources, energy geology, production and sourcing of critical minerals, geothermal energy, and earth science-focused sustainability. Environmental Compliance Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY
The Environmental Compliance Coordinator works within the Environmental Sustainability Department to develop and implement environmental programs in connection with Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4), water quality, and solid waste/recycling. Primary duties include overseeing water quality monitoring programs and special studies and performing data analysis to support City compliance with a regional watershed-based MS4 permit and other water quality regulations. This position will provide an experienced professional the opportunity to apply their skills in a small, dynamic coastal City where environmental quality is highly valued by City leaders.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Water Resources Technician

The County of Monterey Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) / Environmental Services (ES) Unit is responsible for stormwater control, floodwater control and water resources management. ES has oversight for Federal/State/Local regulation compliance with County of Monterey Code of Ordinances, FEMA National Flood Insurance Program, California State Water Resources Control Board Municipal Stormwater Program. ES provides review of development plans for compliance to land use regulations and provides various professional inspections and tasks. ES provides services for control of stormwater, floodwater, water conservation, protection of water quality, and the sustainable management of water resources while minimizing impacts from storm and flood events.

The Department
The Housing and Community Development (HCD) Department is composed of five Divisions, including Development Services, Planning Services, Permit Center, Special Programs and Administration. The department provides reasonable and safe development, planning for future needs of the County, and helps protect natural resources.

Experience: Three years of experience performing duties involving water supply projects, hydrology, water resource management, water-related development review, flood plain management, developing and maintaining databases, and interaction with the public.

Education: Completion of all coursework leading to a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Geology, Water Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, or a closely related field.
