This position will contribute to the rapid deployment of responsibly sited and operated industrial-scale onshore and offshore wind, solar and transmission in data and science used for planning and projects that avoid and minimize conflicts with birds and other wildlife. The Manager will work closely with and support the Climate & Energy team.

Essential Functions

Support the Senior Manager, Science and Data and the Climate & Energy Team in analysis and engagement on planning processes and projects in N. America by managing and providing science, spatial data and cartography for internal and external uses.

Demonstrate in meetings and on request the latest avian ecology GIS mapping and interactions of birds with renewable energy in order to engage effectively with the latest science and analysis.

Participate with the Senior Manager in outreach opportunities to educate Audubon membership on the organization’s position and approach to renewable energy in the form of meetings and webinars and public comments.

Manage relationships with Audubon science, conservation, policy leadership and programs as directed.

Partner closely with the Climate Strategy team to advance Audubon’s climate and clean energy objectives

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, ecology, biology, geography, geospatial science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

5+ years demonstrated experience in GIS mapping techniques and tools in the ESRI platform. Some knowledge of avian ecology, as well as siting and conservation policies that apply to energy projects or related infrastructure on public and private lands.

Experience with ESRI desktop software, specifically ArcGIS Pro 3.X and extensions.

Some experience with ESRI Model Builder, Python, R, and the use of scripts and command line programs to manipulate data.

Experience using ArcGIS Online to create and communicate using Experience Builder, Dashboards, Storymaps, and other ESRI frameworks for packaging content.

Demonstrated proficiency in cartography and effective map design.

Familiarity with geospatial modelling, statistical analysis, and how scientific results are translated into spatial data.

Knowledge of and experience with wildlife conservation issues and an appreciation for nature.

Demonstrated experience in managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines, and operating in a dynamic, fast‐paced environment.

Qualifications

Degree in engineering or science and minimum 3 years of experience within an automotive product development environment (OEM or supply chain)
Prior experience as a design engineer, or domain knowledge in one area of design engineering

Environmental Scientist

The Environmental Scientist provides direct support, under the direction of a Project Manager or Team Lead, to environmental projects. The Environmental Scientist will complete tasks as assigned using applicable tools and skills to help develop, implement, and maintain management plans and procedures for our clients to ensure compliance with state, federal, and local regulations. The position will conduct fieldwork, complete calculations and other analyses, assist in the preparation of permits and regulatory documents.

Job Description

Senior Environmental Analyst

The Department of Public Works, Environmental Management Division seeks a senior environmental project manager to be part of a collaborative team of diverse staff that are responsible for the implementation of major stormwater capital improvement projects in the County including stream restorations and stormwater retrofits.

The Environmental Management Division is an award-winning team that plans and implements watershed improvement projects, including stream restorations, outfall restorations, stormwater retrofits and other water quality best management practices.

About This Role:
Serve as project manager and work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to implement water quality improvement projects such as stream restorations, outfall restorations, stormwater retrofits and other water quality best management practices. Position responsibilities also include contract management, stakeholder coordination, design oversight, technical review, permitting, and construction management. In addition, the position will conduct post-construction monitoring and reporting, as well as track and report nutrient reductions. The position will also assist with the identification, assessment and prioritization of projects as part of the ongoing implementation and capital improvement program budget planning. The person will work as part of a team in collaboration with others within the Environmental Management Division, other County agencies, and external partners to meet the County’s Chesapeake Bay TMDL requirements and achieve the County’s watershed improvement goals.

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 5 years of related work experience and/or education experience.

Preferences:
A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, civil engineering, water resources engineering or related field. Experience managing capital improvement projects with the ability to lead project(s) from conception to completion. Experience managing stream restoration projects and other water quality improvement projects. Experience in feasibility studies and project planning, as well as tracking and reporting nutrient reductions. Experience with construction management, inspections and post construction monitoring. Ability to effectively communicate technical information both verbally and in writing, to include preparing clear and concise technical reports and delivering public presentations.

Environmental Specialist

This Environmental Specialist position in the Environmental Initiatives Unit of the Environmental Resources Department will be responsible to assist and lead the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of environmental projects, programs, and initiatives for waste management. This position will be responsible for working on a variety of initiatives that support the Dakota County Solid Waste Management Plan with a focus on implementing education programs and waste reduction and reuse initiatives such as Fix-it Clinics.

Environmental Engineer, PE

Help to safeguard public health and protect the environment in New York by joining NEIWPCC as an Environmental Engineer. We’re seeking a knowledgeable Environmental Engineer to oversee an administrative consent order to abate combined sewer overflows (CSO) within the New York City watershed.

What You’ll Do
As a NEIWPCC Environmental Engineer you will:

  • Provide high-level program management of all obligations under the CSO Consent Order, identify potential problems with implementation and facilitate timely resolution in coordination with internal and external partners.
  • Complete comprehensive technical reviews of and develop detailed comments on documents submitted under the CSO Order and prepare technical memoranda and presentations.
  • Conduct site visits of active construction projects, attend and construction progress meetings to identify potential problems associated with project implementation, and prepare construction site inspections reports to document status of project construction.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to a NEIWPCC Environmental Engineer working on the program.

What We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will have a passion and interest in preserving and advancing water quality. We are seeking candidates with:

  • A New York State Professional Engineer’s license.
  • Knowledge of wastewater collection system, treatment plant, stormwater system, or CSO system engineering design, operation practices, and construction practices.
  • Knowledge of USEPA and NYSDEC wastewater, stormwater, and CSO rules and regulations and experience working with federal, state, or local water/wastewater agencies.
  • A degree in environmental, civil, chemical, or mechanical engineering, or in a related field with seven years of experience in wastewater treatment plants or wastewater collection facilities design and construction with at least three years as a professional engineer.

Position Logistics
This full-time NEIWPCC position will work 7.5 hours per day and is based in Albany, NY. Duties will be performed largely in an office setting with occasional travel to and from construction sites or meetings in New York City, for which a valid driver’s license and access to own transportation are required. After six months, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, subject to approval and program needs.

Your Key Responsibilities

Use knowledge of general concepts of relevant civil engineering elements including system hydraulics, surveying and topographic mapping, geotechnical considerations, grading, utility investigations and analyses.

Junior Project Manager – Environmental Programs

We are seeking an initiative-taking and skilled project manager to join our team. A successful candidate will provide Junior Project Manager support to contracts with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other government clients in the areas of public health, drinking water, water quality, and environmental science/policy. This position will provide project management support in the areas of drinking water policy and water quality, specifically topics related to the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (NPDWRs) and the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). NPDWRs include regulations such as Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) and the newly finalized PFAS Rule.

Successful candidates will have experience conducting research and analysis on water-related issues. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in drinking water, as well as experience in data analysis and report writing. They will have experience providing administrative support to projects as a project coordinator or project manager in consulting, or a similar field, and experience working closely with multiple project or program managers to complete quality work on time and within budget. Candidates must have a record of advanced critical thinking skills, exceptional oral and written communication, comfortable speaking in public, and experience managing multiple clients and project teams simultaneously. They should be able to manage tasks and projects from start to finish with minimal input from supervisors, be initiative-taking to perform and learn, able to work collaboratively and independently, detail-oriented, and comfortable leading meetings with clients and senior staff. Responsibilities

Serve as a deputy, assistant, or junior project manager in close collaboration with senior team members to ensure timely delivery of project deliverables to clients.
Manage tasks, schedules, and budgets with minimal supervision and ensure consistency and quality of all products.
Conduct research on drinking water-related topics, including regulations, grants, and Safe Drinking Water Act programs.
Manage project teams and mentor new staff members.
Responsible for project coordination activities such as:
Preparing agendas and taking meeting minutes on internal and external calls.
Keeping track of changes in long- and short-term project goals.
Making sure that managers and technical staff are prepared for relevant meetings and meet project deadlines.
Communicating and creating effective communications for project teams.
Preparing assignments for individuals and technical project teams.
Preparing briefings for project managers and clients.
Tracking the status of project deliverables, milestones, and feedback.
Tracking schedules, action items, decisions, risk, issues, lessons learned, and project budgets.
Documenting standard operating procedures.
Providing quality control support and review of project work.
Responsible for coordination activities across projects such as:
Providing administrative support to help facilitate information sharing and planning between project control, contracts, accounting, and project teams.
Supporting the efforts of multiple project managers at the same time.
Gathering and analyzing data necessary to support staff planning.
Support business development efforts by maintaining and updating the organization’s eminence in the water space.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree with coursework in business management, public administration, public health, environmental science and policy, or other relevant areas and 5 years relevant work experience OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of relevant work experience.
Project coordinator or management experience including budget and project staff management.
Must demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing environments, and work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Must demonstrate strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
Must demonstrate excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
Must be able to work under deadlines.
Must demonstrate a positive work ethic in all situations with coworkers, project managers, and clients.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Classwork or experience with EPA regulatory programs, water science, or environmental policies and programs.
Experience coordinating proposal efforts, developing detailed project plans, or managing subcontractors and teaming partners is a plus
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States as a U.S Perm Resident or U.S. Citizen.

Environmental Scientist

Kimley-Horn’s Phoenix, AZ office is seeking an Environmental Scientist with 4+ years of experience to join their Environmental team! This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities

Adhere to the budget set by the client and performing strong project management knowledge
Attend meetings and communicate with clients, government entities, and various regulatory agencies to fulfill any regulations and requirements relating to projects
Monitor project progress, budgets, and schedules

Qualifications

4+ years of relevant experience supporting federal funded project

Bachelors or Masters Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Botany, Biology, or related field
Ecological field work experience
Possess strong technical writing skills and have experience writing detailed technical reports
Working knowledge or strong interest in ArcGIS
Enjoy working in both an office environment and in the field
Interest in working with planners and designers to avoid and minimize ecological impacts
Willingness and flexibility to travel for projects as needed
