The Position

Adjunct Faculty provide course instruction in a manner that ensures student comprehension, retention of knowledge and positive and effective student engagement. This position demonstrates an understanding of course content, appropriate instructional and communication methods and the importance of following established syllabi and adhering to College policies, guidelines and teaching requirements.

What You Will Do

1. Holds classes for all scheduled times; including the last scheduled class and adheres to and meets all established college teaching policies, guidelines and standards

2. Adheres to course delivery requirements that are outlined in the official course description, master course syllabi/outline, class syllabi, and lab schedules as applicable; submits a course syllabus and course outline that must be approved by the School Dean seven calendar days prior to the start of class

3. May attend departmental meetings; and serve on search committees as determined by the School Dean, Dean of e-Learning and/or Vice President at their discretion

4. Responds to invitations to make recommendations to the School Dean regarding the selection of

textbooks or other required texts relative to the adjunct faculty member’s appropriate academic discipline and teaching assignment

5. Completes grading of student assignments and exams within 5 days; submits final grades no later than 48 hours after the conclusion of their last day of class; remains available to students during the week following the posting of final grades as mutually determined by the School Dean and the adjunct faculty member

6. Participates in student learning outcomes assessment related to the adjunct’s teaching assignment as directed by the School Dean

7. Adheres to all established College faculty and student absence and attendance policies, guidelines and requirements which includes the Adjunct Handbook

8. Prepares and maintains Canvas shells for assigned classes to include recording student attendance, posting assignment grades and exam grades, and communicates electronically to students

9. Completes related projects and duties as assigned

The Successful Candidate Must Have

1. Education – one of the following:

a. Master’s Degree in the discipline;

b. Master’s Degree in a different discipline with at least 18 graduate credits in the discipline;

c. Master’s Degree in a different discipline, plus at least two years of directly related professional field experience and/or certification/licensure in the field of specialization;

d. Bachelor’s Degree in the discipline, plus at least five years of directly related professional field experience and certification or licensure in the field.

2. Prior experience teaching at the high school or college level; or experience as a trainer or in conducting group presentations

3. Proven communication and interpersonal skills.

4. Recent technology experience as required of the position.

Principal Planner – Environmental

POSITION SUMMARY

Coordinates and develops policy on environmental planning; provides comprehensive planning assistance for City neighborhoods relative to environmental planning; ties environmental planning goals to zoning and land use regulations, conducts development and design reviews; encourages citizen participation in environmental planning; serves as information liaison between City government and the community.

POSITION DUTIES

Coordinates with other departments, authorities, non-profit partners, and the community to develop policy on environmental planning issues such as stormwater management, floodplain development, tree canopy, undermined and landslide-prone areas, amongst others.
Works with supervisors in the Department of City Planning and elected officials to bring regulations on environmental planning issues through the legislative process.
Provides information for development projects and zoning staff related to floodplains, storm water management, undermined areas, landslide prone areas; reviews project plans and reports for regulatory compliance.
Incorporates environmental planning goals into plans as well as zoning and land use regulations.
Assures City compliance with County, State and Federal environmental regulations.
Provides technical assistance to property owners regarding environmental issues and regulations.
Advances biodiversity in the City, including planning for the City’s urban forest.
Advances park, greenway, open space, and trails projects.
Serves as specialist in environmental and open space functional areas.
Serves as specialist in open space identification and signage design.
Works with consultants hired by City; interacts with counterparts in local, state and federal agencies.
Provides information for and participates in the development of grant applications.
Assists in the preparation of grant applications and related materials for funding sources.
Represents the City with developers, attorneys, elected officials, the general public, foundations, other organizations and officials of various governmental entities.
Makes public presentations to City Council, the City Planning Commission, other entities and the general public.

Qualifying Requirements:

Senior Coastal Engineer

The ideal candidate will be self-motivating, pro-active and with a solid background in coastal engineering. This individual will be involved in the analysis, design and construction of interesting waterfront projects in local and remote locations. Program Specialist, LEED Certification

Environmental Planner

This position is responsible for the oversight and management of activities related to the maintenance of the City’s watershed land, including implementation of the Watershed Resource Protection Plan, coordination of a forest management program and management of land acquisitions. This position provides environmental permitting, grant writing and vegetation management program support to the all Department of Public Works (DPW) Divisions.

Essential Functions:

Updates and implements the City’s Watershed Resource Protection Plan (WRPP) to comply with Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recommendations; conducts policy research to successfully implement the WRPP; prepares for and participates in DEP watershed inspections.
Coordinates with municipalities in the watershed regarding WRPP implementation, land management projects and permits needed.
Coordinates watershed forestry program; schedules and manages timber harvests; manages logging or other vendor contracts; conducts public outreach related to watershed operations as needed.
Oversees land acquisitions for drinking water supply protection, including identifying properties, initiating surveys and timber appraisals and completing permitting; assists in facilitating sales.
Coordinates public access to watershed land; assesses requests for access; tracks compliance with watershed regulations and maintains logs in accordance with DEP requirements.
Provides guidance to the Water Division related to operations and maintenance of watershed land.
Assists with matters related to the City’s vegetation management program in all relevant locations; develops projects for capital improvements and assists in coordinating maintenance operations; engages consultant support as necessary.

Assistant Professor of Environmental Engineering

Angelo State University is seeking a dynamic and energetic engineering faculty member with a focus in environmental engineering and sustainable development to join our team in the growing David L. Hirschfeld Department of Engineering. Angelo State is a teaching-focused, Hispanic Serving Institution and member of the Texas Tech University System. The engineering department offers both civil and mechanical engineering programs.

The engineering program features a common core engineering curriculum shared between civil and mechanical engineering. Currently, the program has 87 civil engineering majors and 163 mechanical engineering majors. Both programs are ABET accredited.

The successful candidate must be able to apply culturally responsive pedagogy in teaching; work collaboratively to maintain a practice-oriented, integrated, broad-based engineering curriculum; teach applications of sustainable development across engineering disciplines as well as environmental design courses within civil engineering; actively participate in assessment duties; and involve undergraduate students in research.

This is a full-time tenure-track, nine-month, Assistant Professor position.

Minimum Qualifications: Requires Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Education or a closely related field, and 12 months experience as Civil Engineering Researcher (Postdoctoral Researcher, Graduate Researcher).

Water Quality Fellow

Riverkeeper’s Science Team is looking for a Water Quality Fellow for the 2024 sampling season from May 1 – October 31, 2024. The Fellow will receive training in lab techniques and be expected to work independently to support Riverkeeper’s water quality monitoring projects. This position will primarily work out of Riverkeeper’s lab located in Kingston, NY with some field work. Field work would include getting to water sampling locations in the mid-Hudson region. Lab work will primarily consist of water sample processing using the EPA approved IDEXX system and is to be conducted in our lab in Kingston, NY. This sampling program primarily focuses on fecal indicator bacteria Enterococcus and E.Coli.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Be a part of our water quality sampling program working with community science volunteers from the Hudson River watershed.
This position will coordinate the collection and ensure the accurate processing of water quality samples according to Riverkeeper’s Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance protocols, working under the supervision of Riverkeeper’s Community Science Manager.
The position will work with and help to organize a core group of approximately 40-50 volunteers who are trained in water quality collection protocol and analysis from shoreline/riverbank locations.
Sampling occurs monthly and will require communication and distribution of sampling supplies to volunteers.
Responsible for data entry including, but not limited to, scanning of physical data entry sheets, and data entry in google sheets.

OTHER EMPLOYMENT DETAILS

Research Assistant

This position is located at the Auburn University Shellfish Laboratory (AUSL) in Dauphin Island, Alabama. The individual selected for the position will assist the AUSL program with field and laboratory shellfish research focused on shellfish aquaculture, oyster reef restoration, hatchery production of shellfish in support of research needs, and basic maintenance of facility and research equipment.

This is a limited term appointment funded from external sources. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Sampling, data collection, and maintenance of field experimental arrays.
Laboratory processing and analysis of shellfish, water, and microbial samples.
Maintain databases, analyze data, and report writing for research projects.
Assist with hatchery and field production of shellfish for research.
Assist with maintenance of facilities, experimental equipment, and field shellfish farm gear and sites.
