As the Environmental Permitting and Compliance Specialist you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and protecting natural resources. Perform field inspections, seagrass and bathymetric surveys, document and analyze findings.
Prepare correspondence, permits, notices, and other technical reports based upon collected and analyzed data and resulting decisions made regarding the applicable regulations.
Coordinate regulatory processes with permit applicants, other government agencies, engineers and consultants, builders, and the public.
Interact with other County departments and divisions on Environmental Protection issues (i.e., Threatened and Endangered Species, protected habitat, wetlands, etc.).
Maintain up-to-date files and data entry within permitting database (e.g., Amanda system).
Review Plans and building permit applications for impacts to the natural resources and consistency with applicable County regulations.
Perform field inspections, document, and analyze findings.
Coordinate regulatory processes with permit applicants, other government agencies, engineers and consultants, builders, and the public.
Interact and coordinate with Planning and Development Services staff on Environmental Protection issues (i.e., Threatened and Endangered Species, protected habitat, wetlands, etc.).
Conduct compliance inspections, respond to and properly resolve citizen complaints, and initiate appropriate enforcement actions. Provide expert technical testimony in legal actions.
Create, update, and maintain outreach materials. Conduct WNCA jurisdictional boundary determinations. Give presentations to the public and stakeholder groups.
To thrive in this position, you must have-
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, or related field.
A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate environmental field can substitute for one year of professional experience.
Valid Florida driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, particularly related to water-dependent structures, dredge and fill work, coastal construction, and protected habitats.
Experience in conducting technical reviews, processing permits, and performing field inspections in an environmental regulatory setting.
Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, consultants, and the public.
Experience in policy review, formulation, and enforcement actions.
Familiarity with database management systems (e.g., Accela) is a plus.
