Senior Vice President for Climate & Energy

NRDC’s “North Starâ€ climate goal is to protect vulnerable communities, human health and nature by limiting global warming to 1.5C in an equitable manner. In the US, we strive to cut U.S. greenhouse emissions by 50-52% percent by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050. To work toward these goals, the Climate & Energy Program focuses on rapid scale up of key clean energy technologies and energy efficiency, and the control of highly potent global warming pollutants with policies that emphasize affordability, accessibility, and equity. Most of the program’s resources are focused on accelerating the impact of our work in four major sectors: Transportation, Power, Industrial and Buildings, with major considerations for the adoption of clean energy drivers such as renewables, energy efficiency, electrification. Additionally, and importantly, a growing part of our work focuses on innovation and new technologies in the decarbonization of the industrial sector and the use of hydrogen derived from renewable electricity in hard-to-decarbonize sectors with appropriate safeguards.

In FY23 the Climate & Energy Program has a total budget of $29.4M with a staff of 90 passionate advocates.

Senior Vice President for Climate & Energy Role Description

The Senior Vice President will be the chief visionary and strategist for NRDC’s advocacy to fight climate change and advance clean energy, charged with leading, scaling, and operationalizing the people, structures, partnerships, and programs needed to execute strategy in this area for maximum impact. Reporting directly to the Chief Program Officer (CPO) and serving on the Advocacy Leadership Team, the Senior Vice President will be externally and internally focused, representing NRDC at external events as well as internal forums, acting as a spokesperson for our strategic vision and helping elevate the reputation and profile of the organization. The Senior Vice President will seek out and build strategic partnerships and develop and support fundraising efforts in partnership with Development. The Senior Vice President will be expected and will be supported to build even further NRDC’s advocacy against climate change and in favor of clean energy to meet the urgency of the moment.

Responsibilities

Strategy, Institutional Leadership, Partnerships and External Relations (60%)

Serves as chief strategist and advocate for NRDC’s goal to fight climate change and advance clean energy with people and equity at the center of the chosen path forward.
Serves as a high-visibility expert and spokesperson for NRDC’s advocacy on climate and energy matters.
Cultivates and manages strategic relationships and partnerships with businesses, NGOs, environmental justice leaders, labor, government, local government, and community groups to maximize impact and achieve major climate outcomes.
Serves as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the Chief Program Officer and a member of the Advocacy Leadership Team.
Works with the Development department to develop and implement a vision and strategy to maximize funding opportunities; helps develop foundation proposals, meets with donors, and cultivates philanthropic relationships.
Works with the Communications and Campaigns departments to develop effective external mobilization opportunities and communication strategies that increase NRDC’s visibility and name recognition as a leader in climate and energy matters.
Embeds equity and justice in NRDC’s climate and energy work; champions community advocacy and helps build expertise and capacity among underserved communities.

Program Management (40%)

Leads the Climate and Energy program, including strategic planning, people management and administration.
Sets program’s strategic goals in alignment with organizational priorities, develops key performance indicators and robust work plans to achieve outcomes, and sets high performance expectations.
Oversees and has ultimate responsibility for the financial management of the program’s budget, aiming to make the most strategic and effective use of program funds by rigorously prioritizing and allocating resources to maximize opportunities and outcomes.
Collaborates internally with leadership across Programs and other functions to ensure that department initiatives are integrated, and that staff are in alignment.

The Community Development Department (CDD) is the planning agency for the City of Cambridge. CDD engages and collaborates with community partners, other government agencies, businesses, and residents to make Cambridge a desirable place to live, work, learn, play, and innovate.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Sustainability Associate Planner will be a member of the Climate team in CDD’s Environmental and Transportation Planning division. They will report to a Project Planner and focus primarily on management and administration of the Building Energy Use Disclosure and Energy Reporting Ordinance. This is a key program that advances Cambridge’s goals to address climate change. The Ordinance applies to over 1,100 buildings in the City and will require buildings to be Net Zero emissions by 2035 or 2050.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary responsibilities will be in four main areas:

Resources and Technical Support

Create and maintain online resources.
Reach out to and educate building owners and managers.
Track program outcomes and organize regular check-ins with utility partners and other stakeholders.

Data Tracking and Analysis

Analyze building energy and greenhouse gas emissions data.
Present information to property owners and members of the public.
Provide information to inform other city climate initiatives.

Communication and Enforcement

Support ordinance reporting and enforcement including monitoring compliance.
Communicate directly with property owners and managers.
Send compliance letters and issue fines.
Oversee a technical help desk service managed primarily by consultants.

Consultant Management

Engage with a consultant on maintenance of an electronic data and communications platform. This includes support to regulated buildings, oversight of the operation, and adaptation of the data platform to meet current and future building needs.

Additional Duties

Perform related duties as required to support creative and effective approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Cambridge.
Promote public health and equity.
Engage with other departments on development of policy and strategy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

Minimum of four (4) years of related experience and a related Bachelor’s degree. An Associate’s degree with six (6) years of related experience, a Master’s degree with two (2) years of experience, or people with 8 years of professional experience in a related field will also be considered.

Familiarity with building energy efficiency technologies and decarbonization strategies

Sustainability Operations Coordinator

The Sustainability Operations Coordinator is responsible for fostering a culture of sustainability at Texas A&M University. This position is responsible for management and coordination of the Aggie Green Fund, a student-led majority committee, which oversees and awards up to $225,000 for environmental grants each year. The position enhances sustainability public education and outreach initiatives through a variety of platforms including social media outlets, development and implementation of programs such as the Aggie Sustainability Alliance. Assists with the Office of Sustainability’s institutional assessment and reporting goals, work with high-level campus stakeholders to accomplish sustainability objectives, and identifies new programs for development that will increase the sustainability of practices such as recycling, energy and water use, transportation, food services, procurement, and social justice.

Manages and oversees all aspects of environmental compliance tasks for regulated sites by coordinating and supporting all permitting, sampling, reporting and recordkeeping functions for the operations including but not limited to:

Air programs: Title V Permits, Air Emission Inventories, and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting requirements.
Water programs: Stormwater, groundwater, wastewater treatment permit, sewer pre-treatment permit, water withdrawal permits.
Waste programs: Recycling, universal waste, non-hazardous waste, hazardous waste as well as periodic waste disposal from routine maintenance & construction projects.
Auditing of facilities against regulations, permit conditions, BSI global standards… including coordination of any follow up corrective action planning with operations.
Permitting project management: coordination of efforts between operations, third party consultants/engineers and regulatory agencies for new permits, renewals of permits, and any required modifications as required by regulations and permit conditions; permitting may include and require attendance of regulatory meetings, public hearings and community engagement; work through closure/post closure activities as needed with operations, legal, risk management and third party consultants;
Noncompliance events: management of any notices of violation, follow up reporting, communication to leadership; mitigate ongoing risk; manage follow up corrective action planning.
Maintain all required records through the Compliance and Performance tracking system and provide regular monthly, quarterly and annual status reporting data to corporate as requested.
Regulatory Policy Updates: subject matter expert for region related to environmental and permitting. Working with third party consultants, associations and government agencies maintain up to date information on regulatory, guidance or policy changes which may impact operations and communicate to Company leadership team. May require attendance of meetings, writing of position statements or submission of comments to regulatory changes. Provide technical support and expertise in such discussions.
Corporate Interactions: Identify compliance risks and strategically utilize internal controls necessary to ensure legal and other requirements are effectively managed to prevent and minimize risks; report any and all compliance issues to Company leadership;
Serve as the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Representative (EMR) and works collaboratively with other Integrated Management System representatives (Safety, Quality, etc.).
Continuous Improvement: provide technical review on projects, provide recommendations related to environmental compliance requirements.
Training and Support: provide technical information and training to operations; provide relief support for key roles as needed, complete special projects/assignments as required by leadership; provide expertise on key projects and committees as needed;

Provide feedback and support to other departments to assist in improvement of compliance program development, best management practices, standard work instructions, and overall improvement to company policies and programs.

In addition to Environmental Compliance this position is responsible for ensuring the business is fully compliant with current, and future, energy and environmental legislation and targets, both internal and external, ensuring that Beam Suntory goes beyond compliance in the attainment of all environmental and sustainability objectives and targets.

Act as the sustainability subject matter expert (SME) on best practices to manage compliance and reduce energy, water, and waste. Develop strategies and implementation plans for Energy and Water optimization, Carbon reduction, Climate Change, sustainability management, packaging and waste reduction.
Work with others to develop project ideation, validate cost savings and execute projects related to the reduction of energy usage and the associated carbon footprint in existing and new systems, the reduction of the water footprint, and the optimization of all process and co-product streams towards creation of a sustainable business operation.
Develop energy, carbon, water, packaging, and waste key performance indicators (KPI) and report on benchmarks.
Monitor and track current fuel, electricity, water, wastewater, recycling, and disposal costs. Complete utility rate structure analysis and reporting.
Participate in capital planning, developing scopes, creating specifications, cost estimating, cash flow forecasting, presentations for approval, project execution, preparing project specifications for request for proposals (RFP), managing contractors, managing project teams, and status communication. Work with finance, production, and QMD to develop justifications for capital projects and prepare the Capital Authorization Requests {CARs) in a timely and accurate fashion.
Develop best operating practices for design, maintenance and operation of utility and energy management systems with regards to energy and water use.
Evaluate, contract, and manage consulting engineers as required.
Review regulatory proposed changes with regards to energy use and carbon emissions at the Federal/State/Provincial level and evaluate impact to company operations.
Participate as the company representative in governmental and non-governmental organizations (i.e., Chamber of Commerce Environmental Committee, Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable, etc.) and report to management any impact to the organization.
Review and evaluate Federal/State/Provincial programs related to grants and rebates on energy reduction projects and programs.
Engage the production facilities in personal development, mentoring, and training about sustainability activities.
Interface with engineers to define project scope requirements and incorporate corporate standards with regards to sustainability.
Assist in the development of new installation techniques and standards. Troubleshoot technical issues related to sustainability equipment and processes. Manage technical documents related to sustainability standards and other guidance.
Prepare and communicate sustainability presentations to management, site visit reports, meeting minutes, schedules and routine status updates for sustainability projects. Act as the main contact with the BSI sustainability global team.

Manager, Sustainability

The Manager, Sustainability- Sustainable Agriculture, Resource Conservation, & Circularity reports directly to the Corporate Sr. Director, Sustainability. The position will be expected to maintain contact with various site-level Sustainability Engineers and Managers, in addition to Production, Process, Maintenance, Warehouse, Sanitation, Environmental Compliance, Safety, and Quality Managers when necessary. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Sr. Director as sustainable development principles is further incorporated and maintained within company culture and programming. This position will have a particular focus on program management in two key focus areas denoted in the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) vision and strategy framework – Sustainable Agriculture and Resource Conservation & Circularity (Water program). The associate will also ensure other relevant multi-departmental efforts are considered in collaboration with the Sr. Director, a peer Sr. Manager, a departmental data analyst, and any assigned Sustainability Graduate Development Program (GDP) engineers or Corporate Development Program (CDP) interns. The member will also be expected to facilitate internal and external communications with stakeholders while developing and advancing employee awareness programming. Finally, Sr. Manager may be called upon to lead interactions and communications with community interest groups, contractors, and consultants, when tasked by the Sr. Director.

Coordinate with site managers, sustainability managers, sustainability engineers, and corporate resources to develop and maintain site-specific training and signage as part of a continuous effort to raise the visibility of sustainable development.
Tracking and validation of all sustainability data within assigned programs to ensure accurate reporting.
Analysing the collected data and identifying opportunities for improvements, while ensuring validity of the outcomes and potential communication pathways that may result.
Coordinate with Procurement, Supply Chain, and Global Sugars Group (GSG) teams as needed to aid in developing and reporting approved sustainability data.
Support Corporate and site-level management system reporting within an authorized web-based survey system, while ensuring corrective action tracking and rectification of findings.
Assist as needed with any third-party sustainability audits and validation programs.

WORK EXPERIENCES

Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting sustainable development efforts (Environmental and Social Governance; ESG), preferably in a manufacturing setting.
Experience with ESG program development, reporting, and metrics associated with commonly accepted International (best practice) standards (e.g., GRI, ISO, Product Life-cycle Analysis, Greenhouse Gas Reporting Protocols, Water Footprinting assessments, etc…)
Experience with third-party validation and auditing relative to sustainable development activities (SMETA, Proterra, Bonsucro).
Experience with web-based customer surveys and reporting platforms such as CDP, TSC, ECOVADIS, M2030, etc.
Experience with management system-based risk analysis/ Materiality Assessments about target/objective setting.
Experience with sustainability-based project management.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

BS in Environmental and Social Sustainability (ESS), Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university is required. Advanced Degrees preferred.

North American Representative for the Global Organic Textile Standard

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria.We are a non-profit organization. Due to retirement, we are looking for a Regional Representative in North America who will operate from home with regular travel.

Your Key responsibilities include:
• Contact and input marketing activities (active acquisition) towards brands and retailers.
• Organize (initial) individual consultancy for companies towards GOTS certification.
• Organize promotional events for the industry.
• Represent GOTS at industry and academic events.
• Liaise with government bodies to protect GOTS interests.

Your Qualifications and Experience:
• Three years of work experience in textiles and textile chemicals landscape – or – quality assurance, process or systems auditing with any ISO standards application such as USDA/NOP, GMP etc.

Efficiency Vermont is seeking a Senior Project Manager to assist with incoming ARPA funding, as well as Flood Relief Assistance. Qualifications

Experience working in a regulated utility environment is preferred, but not required.
Working towards or having achieved Project Management Professional (PMP) is desired.

Support the waste and recycling operation. Enacts in the efficient collection, transportation, and disposal of all waste and recyclables generated onsite.

Ensure World Class Standards are delivered and exceeded involving customer service with other departments and guest interaction.

Responsible for the daily operation and general upkeep of the truck route vehicle utilized during the assigned shift.

Responsible for the general upkeep of the waste compactors and a vertical strike down cardboard baler utilized during the assigned shift.

Responsible for the general upkeep of the waste and recycling containers throughout the resort from a quality perspective.

Follows department established policies and procedures at all times. Ensure compliance with relative guidelines regarding the safe transportation, usage of job-related equipment, and handling with the disposal of waste and recyclables.

How You Will Spend Your Time

Works closely with senior leaders to implement, execute, and coordinate an organizational sustainability strategy that is aligned with our mission and business objectives.

Stays apprised of current and emerging trends related to sustainable agriculture, climate-smart agriculture practices, and federal and state government programs.

Energy Advocate

The City of Worcester seeks applicants for two (2) part-time, temporary Energy Advocate (Staff Assistant I) for the Sustainability and Resilience Department. The positions will lead the City of Worcester’s outreach to residents and small businesses with a goal of increasing participation in Mass Save® energy efficiency programs, especially among renters, landlords, moderate income households, language-isolated households, and small businesses. Energy Advocates will play a critical role in Worcester’s Smart Energy Advice initiative managed through the Department of Sustainability and Resilience. This position is part of a cohort of Energy Advocates and community leaders statewide who are leading similar outreach efforts in their communities as part of the Mass Save® Community First Partnership program.
