Course / Program Description

This course provides a broad overview of global business practices in sustainability, designed to help students develop a strong foundation in this complex subject. The primary focus is helping students understand the business rationale for sustainability. Students examine why and how a business is addressing environmental and sustainability issues across sectors and industries. Additionally, the course covers the various principles, models, methodologies, and
indicators of sustainability to help students understand how global business awareness and practices in the field have evolved since the concept first emerged in the 1980s.
Job Description

A teaching position is now available for a Global Business Practices in Sustainability course. Qualified applicants possessing current knowledge and teaching experience in the following topic area(s) are encouraged to apply:

This course is delivered partially IN PERSON. Applicants must be available to teach in person in Los Angeles.
Instructor Duties:

• Develop and/or update course syllabus in consultation with the UCLA Extension Program Director as assigned using approved syllabus template
• Prepare and deliver course materials and learning assessments in assigned format (in-person, online or hybrid)
• Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System as the course support platform for in-person courses and as the delivery platform for online and hybrid courses
• Communicate teaching objectives and specific learning outcomes to students and clearly outline the grading policies for the course
• Evaluate student achievement of specific learning outcomes and assign grades
• Post final student grades to the transcript system in a timely manner no later than 2 weeks after the last date of course meeting
• Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner
• Communicate with Program Director, Program Representatives and Online Course Managers in a timely manner
• Stay current regarding the professional body of knowledge in the field of practice
• Participate in required orientations and instructor training programs
• Complete required administrative tasks in a timely manner including: completing all hiring paperwork; submitting updated quarterly syllabus; posting bio and photo on the UCLA Extension website; signing quarterly contract; ordering required texts; communicating AV and classroom needs.

Senior Officer, Clean Grid & Energy

For more than 30 years, Pew has been a major force in engaging the public and policy makers about the causes, consequences, and solutions to some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. Our environment work spans all seven continents with more than 250 professionals working at the local, national, and international levels to reduce the scope and severity of global environmental problems, such as the erosion of large natural ecosystems that contain a great part of the world’s remaining biodiversity, and the destruction of the marine environment. Pew’s global environmental program focuses on science-based, nonpartisan, and sustainable solutions to help protect the planet and people. We work in partnership with governments, Indigenous rights holders, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, local stakeholders, scientists, and other researchers to advance public policy so that nature and communities can thrive.

The Energy Modernization Project

The Energy Modernization Project is new initiative that aims to secure decarbonization policies to advance clean energy technologies and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. The project’s work will center on policies that accelerate the transition to electric vehicles, deploy offshore wind energy production, and modernize electricity grids to increase their capacity to deploy new renewable energy resources.

Position Overview

The senior officer, clean grid and energy, will serve as a lead expert on decarbonization. The senior officer is responsible for overseeing research on the economic and social impacts of carbon reduction policies, and serves as a subject matter expert to internal and external stakeholders including with government, industry and stakeholders. Reporting to the Director, the senior officer works with colleagues to develop and manage a broad array of research projects, collaborates on research design with external contractors and grantees, and informs clean power and transportation regulatory development and strategy.

The position is based in Washington, D.C. and is eligible for up to 60% telework from home, however other locations and/or remote work in the U.S. may be considered. Candidates must be presently legally authorized to work in the country for which they are seeking employment without the need of visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Sustainability Manager

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Facilities this position will develop sustainability initiatives that result in the highest standards of energy-efficiency and healthy built environments, including overseeing the implementation of LEED, the Living Building Challenge, SITES, WELL, and other certifications related to sustainability.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide leadership in enhancing sustainability standards across campus and promote the integration of existing efforts. Also, educate staff in sustainability.
Responsible for implementation and reporting necessary to achieve and maintain sustainability certifications, including LEED, the Living Building Challenge, SITES, and WELL.
Gather all data, preparing and submitting certifications, as well as ensuring adherence to requirements for these sustainability certifications, and any other certifications.
Create, maintain, and report out sustainability metrics (energy, water, carbon, material usage).
Work with the Director of Facilities and the President and CEO to define and develop sustainability goals and apply regenerative thinking to all sustainability processes.
Collaborate with other department directors to establish policies and procedures that meet all LEED, the Living Building Challenge, SITES, WELL, and any other relevant qualifications, incorporating sustainability into programs and operation across the Phipps campus.
Create and maintain program budget.
Ensure that good fiscal practices are followed.

LEED Accreditation is preferred. Knowledge of the Living Building Challenge, SITES, and WELL certifications.
If the applicant is not LEED Accredited, then the applicant must obtain the accreditation once they are employed.
Prior botanical garden, landscape installation and maintenance experience.

This role will largely focus on recruiting members to join premium grain programs, collecting data from members about production practices and outcomes, and building business systems for growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide a great customer experience to farmers enrolled in a sustainability program. This includes farmer outreach via email, phone, and in-person meetings, working with farmers to gather the required farm information, and helping farmers understand the impact of sustainable agriculture.
Work with FBN partners (usually local grain buyers) to manage farmers in a region and ensure that sustainability programs are maximized throughout a territory.
Help farmers learn about Farmers Business Network and how other FBN business lines can help their farm.
Work with the FBN product and data science team to help guide the development of new tools to make sustainable agriculture more accessible to farmers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors or advanced degree in agriculture, environmental science, agronomy, or related fields plus experience in customer success, customer experience, lead generation, or sales; or 4 years of precision agriculture, sales, customer success, hands-on operational management, or consulting experience in lieu of a degree.

Environmental Sustainability Planner

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director, Center for Community for Systems, the Environmental Sustainability Planner will serve as the Center’s subject matter expert on climate resiliency and sustainability, and will participate in studies, projects, technical assistance programs, and educational forums.

Essential Functions:
– Participates in studies, projects, and technical assistance programs related to community revitalization, community resilience, and brownfields redevelopment.
– Provides technical knowledge, guidance, data, support, and advice in the area of environmental sustainability, resiliency, energy efficiency, community revitalization, and climate change policies and initiatives.
– Develops strategies to promote the incorporation of sustainable practices relating to brownfields redevelopment.
– Identifies and provides technical assistance to communities that are developing resilience plans and projects.
– Develops and conducts educational forums designed to promote the incorporation of sustainable, resilient, and equitable development practices into brownfields redevelopment and community revitalization.
– Develops concepts for sustainability and resiliency tools including infographics, short videos, learning modules, and pamphlets.
– Collaborates with the Center’s team members to incorporate sustainable and resilient practices elements into planned educational forums.

Facility Sustainability Coordinator

Description

Responsible for implementation and processing Big Lots trash and recycle service to stores and Distribution Centers, through chosen assigned external partner(s), and key internal partners. The overall goal is to accomplish net zero waste service program.

1. Assists in coordination of incoming service calls or service requests initiated by store personnel and route to appropriate provider.
2. Provide administrative assistance to track and resolve: review of all invoice/expense details, assemble and process invoice copies for monthly processing, implement. Reviews and investigates all discrepancies for unresolved billing issues.
3. Work with partners to establish a baseline and optimize trash hauling by assigning the proper size container and implement periodic right sizing service of containers. All based on waste volumes, stream changes and equipment or schedule changes.
4. Provides administrative support and prepares necessary reports from portal and service request software. Utilize the data to establish key performance indicators to implement improvements at store and provider level.
5. Coordinate and facilitate proper interval of conference calls to maintain administration and optimization of services.

Deputy Director, Renewable and Alternative Energy Division

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources’ (DOER) mission is to create a clean, affordable, equitable and resilient energy future for all residents, including low-income and Environmental Justice populations, businesses, communities, and institutions in the Commonwealth. To meet these objectives, DOER develops and implements policies and programs to ensure the adequacy, security, diversity, and cost-effectiveness of the Commonwealth’s energy supply. DOER is responsible for implementing the state’s Renewable and Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard (RPS and APS) programs, which includes the RPS Solar Carve-Out programs, the Clean Peak Energy Standard (CPS) program, and the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) Program.

The Department of Energy Resources is seeking a Deputy Director within the Renewable and Alternative Energy Division. The Deputy Director will report to the Director and will act as a stand-in for the Director when the Director in unavailable or when the management of projects and team members requires additional coverage. The Deputy Director will supervise at least 4 members of the Division and will oversee the implementation of the Division’s programs, with an emphasis on the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) program, programmatic compliance efforts, and policy development relating to renewable energy (such as solar PV and offshore wind). Additionally, the Deputy Director will, independent from the Director, define and lead policy efforts and projects with staff within the Division and from other Divisions. The Deputy Director will work with the Director to ensure that there is consistent policy within the Division.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

The Deputy Director’s primary responsibilities will include:

Supporting the Director and Commissioner in the development of renewable energy policy
Identifying and leading policy development efforts related to solar PV and offshore wind
Overseeing the implementation of the SMART program, including but not limited to:
Overseeing Statement of Qualification Application reviews to ensure comprehensive and timely processing via adequate staff resourcing
Assisting staff in the execution of quarterly data requests and public records requests
Managing tasks related to the quarterly NEPOOL GIS minting
Assisting in the review of requests for extensions and exceptions from program rules
Managing programmatic compliance efforts across the SMART programs specifically as it relates to low income off takers, community shared solar, and energy storage
Meet with external stakeholders including the project developers, electric distribution companies, the Attorney General’s Office, consultants, etc.
Work with the Communications, Legislative, and Legal staff to be responsive to information requests and the drafting language for public and legislative use
Supporting the Director with the day to day management of the Renewable and Alternative Energy Division

Wind Technician I

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Exciting entry-level position, the Field Service Technician I (Wind Tech) is an essential member of the Wind or Solar Farm that is responsible for the on-site operations, maintenance, repairs, and replacement of equipment at one of EDPR NA’s wind-energy generation sites. Tasks include but are not limited to completing Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), Tail Board, and documentation that is necessary to support wind turbine maintenance safely. This team member will also conduct inspections of equipment, tools, and facilities for compliance with EDPR policies, governmental safety guidelines, and environmental regulations. The ideal candidate is seeking an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills in a dynamic team setting with a passion for renewable energy as EDPR is changing tomorrow now!

Main Accountabilities:

Ensure proper operation and maintenance of wind turbines and associated wind plant equipment including substation and tower switchgear

Senior Sustainability Project Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Sustainability Project Engineer to develop and execute plans for new sustainability projects for Westlake Plants for emission reduction, energy reduction, hydrogen, renewable electricity, and carbon capture and manage the associated portfolio of projects in these areas. This role will perform tasks to ensure renewable project development including pre-feasibility studies, project design, economic analysis, etc. You will be responsible for resource allocation, schedules, cost, technical adequacy, ensuring the project or transaction is completed in the most cost effective and competitive manner. In addition, you will establish a close collaboration with all of the relevant internal and external stakeholders (technology providers, engineering service providers, local authorities, plant leadership teams, etc.).

Director of Environmental Compliance and Sustainability

We are looking for someone to develop strategies, policies, plans, standards, and objectives to lead environmental compliance and sustainability efforts in alignment with company goals. Lead all aspects of operational activities associated with air, waste, and water regulatory programs and sustainability initiatives. Directly contacts regulators, senior management, and external peers to ensure that organizational programs are innovative, practical, and successful.

May provide construction project support as a subject matter expert during each phase of the project – design, construction, and post-construction
Responsible for contract/SOW preparation of external consultants or consults as subject matter expert on contracts impacting our environmental and sustainability programs

This role might be for you if you have:

Minimum requirements 12 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 10+ years of relevant experience with a master’s degree (preferred). At least 4 years of supervisory experience required. Experience in pharmaceutical/biologics preferred, will also consider manufacturing or academia.
