We are seeking a Project Coordinator for Higher Education to support SEI’s sustainability-focused education programs working with community colleges and universities. This Project Coordinator will primarily hold a leading role in growing the reach and impact of the

program, which aims to create a more sustainable, resilient future by training the changemakers who will lead the transformation to a clean energy future. This role would also be responsible for mentoring Climate Corps Fellows as they develop real-world skills to build a career in the sustainability field.

SEI is located in Marin County, CA, and operates on a hybrid work schedule for those located in the Bay Area; however, this position is open to candidates anywhere in California for remote work.

Responsibilities

Lead execution of projects within higher education programs, serving as the primary point person for specified projects
Support with higher education faculty and staff learning communities, training the trainers, and faculty-led curriculum development
Lead internal project team meetings, including scheduling, writing agendas, facilitating, and assigning action items and deadlines to individual team members
Support Associate Program Managers, Program Managers, and Program Directors with SEI’s education programs, including partner outreach, grant proposal writing, evaluation, and reporting
Supervise program members, including participants, fellows, and interns, by conducting regular check-ins, providing ongoing mentorship, managing deliverables, and approving expenses and timecards
Support training of new SEI staff on project workflows, tools, and/or changes

Requirements

Degree in a sustainability or energy-related field, or commensurate experience
Minimum of 2 years experience in project management and associated administrative tasks
Minimum of 2 years experience in higher education
Minimum of 2 years experience in energy, sustainability, or climate challenges and solutions

Lead Turbine Engineer Designer

Job Description Summary
Under the responsibility of the head of the IB Turbine team, the turbine design engineer participates in the design of hydraulic turbines in the different phases of a project from basic design to commissioning of the unit, including the basic and detail design analysis and project follow up, support to manufacturing in GE’s shop and with our suppliers, commissioning and acceptance testing of the units on site.

Essential Responsibilities:

Analyze technical information from Work Packages (Technical Specifications, Division of Work, …) and participate in identify the risks and technical opportunities of the project on technical matters.
Conduct site visits to make an assessment of the existing turbine and supervise signature tests on the unit before disassembly at site.
Plan and follow project engineering basic design phase and coordinate with Hydraulic design team (hydraulic test lab).
Perform designs and calculations of turbine components and validate critical ones with Principal/Consulting Engineers.
Lead design reviews and perform design review actions follow-up.
Provide technical support to the customer in coordination with the project System Integrator.
Prepare information for the execution of technical drawings and supervise and validate the draftsman work.
Optimize designs with Supply Chain, Site Installation to get the lowest installed equipment costs.
Write reports and engineering documents, including test procedures, engineering calculation notes, operation and maintenance manuals.
Perform Supply Chain technical support and participate to Site Installation technical support (erection and commissioning) of sub-assemblies / components designed by the IB CoE (including NCR treatment) (based as agreed with Fleet Support).
Follow up the performance testing of the prototype turbine on site.
Develop tools and design guides for Installed Base turbine engineering.

Sustainability Engineering Manager

The University of Virginia’s Office for Sustainability is seeking candidates for a Sustainability Engineering Manager. This position is a core member of the University of Virginia’s Office for Sustainability team and will contribute to developing solutions to meet university-wide goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, and ensuring overall environmental stewardship. The position will oversee the Building Energy Efficiency, Smart Labs, and Green Building Standards programs and team members, and will develop and support additional initiatives to advance UVA’s sustainability goals.

Sustainability at the University of Virginia is interdisciplinary, multi-faceted and highly collaborative, encompassing academics, research, and operations and a range of topics, including greenhouse gases, energy, water, waste, food, equity, and civic engagement. We support workplace flexibility when appropriate but 100% remote work is not possible.

Responsibilities include:

Oversee the Building Energy Efficiency program, the Office for Sustainability’s Green Building Standards initiatives – including strategic planning, implementation, analysis, communications, and oversight of direct reports and specific projects.

Mentor and advise multiple direct reports – the Office for Sustainability engineering team.

Track overall program budgets, schedules, resource and training needs, and in planning the use of resources to ensure the University achieves sustainability goals.

Expand sustainability programs by assessing current initiatives, implementing improvements, and determining resource allocations.

Provide technical direction and support in the planning, design, and construction of departmental projects related to sustainability – particularly new construction and major renovations.

Represent UVA’s sustainable buildings program efforts to the wider community.

Required Education & Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, sustainable design, architecture, or similar field.

Experience: 7 years’ professional experience working in an engineering-related field, designing, construction, architecture, or evaluating building energy systems or controls.

Advanced degrees may substitute for years of experience.

Strong preference given to candidates with leadership or direct supervisory experience.

Experience in educational, research, and/or health care facilities, infrastructure, or systems is preferred. The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive town-wide sustainability program. This position will work across all Town departments to promote, enhance, and coordinate sustainable and resilient Town operations such as (but not limited to) solid waste management, motor fleet, facility maintenance, community education and outreach, and energy efficiency and waste reduction. Work is performed under the supervision of the Budget and Performance Management Director. The Coordinator will have analytic support from Budget & Performance Analysts in the department.

Research Analyst, Center for Sustainable Development

The Global Economy and Development (“Globalâ€) program at Brookings aims to offer innovative policy solutions and tools to help global, national, and local policymakers build more inclusive and sustainable economic systems that deliver prosperity for all. The Center for Sustainable Development (CSD), housed within Global, generates leading research and practical insights to advance global sustainable development and implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within and across all countries. CSD is recruiting a research analyst to work in a new program being developed within CSD on gender and sustainable development. Research analysts support scholars by providing research, writing, data, statistical, and geospatial analysis related to policies and trends pertinent to global sustainable development. Focus areas of research include fiscal policy and finance for gender equality and women’s empowerment in the evolving context of COVID recovery, climate change, and conflict prevention and response, in addition to longstanding issues of poverty and economic development; a reinvigorated global and institutional architecture that is fit for purpose to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment, informed by ongoing advances in behavioral science; the intersections between gender equality and the care economy in the climate change discourse, and SDG 5 benchmarking and implementation, among others. As an integral member of the CSD research team, this research analyst will work with the Senior Fellow, the CSD Director, and other Center scholars to perform analysis with limited supervision; deliver high quality outputs in a timely manner; participate in the development, dissemination and presentation of research findings; assist in the organization of meetings and events; and provide administrative assistance as needed. This is a one-year termed appointment, with the potential for renewal. The below allocation of duties describes the average division between tasks. The actual work will vary depending on the particular project needs of the scholars with whom the research analyst may be assigned to work at different junctures.

Research Analysis (75%)

Conducts empirical research and economic policy analysis on policies and trends related to financing for gender equality; fiscal policies, including taxation and expenditure; institutional approaches to meet SDG5; and the relationship between climate change and care.
Performs advanced, complex quantitative data analysis of large datasets and trends, including geospatial data, utilizing econometric and other statistical methods.
Creates and manages large datasets within Stata or R; writes complex code in Stata or R to operationalize analysis methodologies.

Assists with the successful organization and execution of meetings related to the work of the Senior Fellow and possibly other CSD scholars.

Corresponds with collaborating researchers in other institutions.
Works with the program’s web site coordinator to maintain strategic oversight of the content of project-specific web pages and publications as needed.

Assistant Director of Energy Management

The Assistant Director is responsible for energy management, conservation, utility budgeting, keeping senior leadership and energy stakeholders informed, and has primary responsibility to manage the $25 million utility budget. The objective of this position is to serve as the University’s main energy efficiency and utility advisor and to lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive energy conservation strategy that will reduce the University’s carbon footprint. This position will perform duties with a high level of independence and self-direction. The position will strive to help Case Western Reserve University reduce campus energy intensity and utility-based greenhouse gas emissions. This position is critical to leading Case Western Reserve University’s mission to reduce its energy footprint, reduce costs, and move towards carbon neutrality. The assistant director will work in collaboration with a wide variety of departments across the University, including faculty, researchers, students and outside vendors and contractors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Advise senior leadership and the board of trustees on energy related investments, needs, and pathways to achieve the energy efficiency component of the Case Western Reserve University’s Climate Action Plan, the largest category of investment needed to help the university achieve climate neutrality. Recommend sound policies directed toward energy conservation and related sustainability implementation on campus. Propose and develop short-term and long-range plans for implementing innovations in energy conservation on campus. Ensure that energy management strategy and operations are supportive of the institution’s academic and research goals. (15%)
Responsible for all utility reporting, applying for energy conservation project funds, quarterly utility use projections on the $25 million utility budget, utility procurement, and providing evaluation of energy related loads for construction and renovation projects. Develop and maintain a detailed potential energy conservation projects list, prioritized by payback, energy savings, feasibility, and impact. Provide quarterly reports as to the overall effectiveness of the energy management program, energy consumption and help communicate this technical data to multiple audiences. Maintain projected and actual ROI and related metrics on the university’s energy conservation projects (dates, costs, ROI). (15%)
Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of major renewal and replacement projects and upgrades throughout the university. Compile estimated building utility budgets and energy conservation measure cost estimates during design and post occupancy. Work with the commissioning agents closely. Provide strategic input to the division’s directors, project managers and coordinators to help evaluate energy related equipment, maintenance, replacement, or upgrades. Create and promote effective university standards for energy efficiency, equipment specification, and procedures to ensure safe, comfortable, and efficient indoor environments. (15%)
Oversee energy metering, monitor metered data, lead metering expansion, and serve as the primary manager of related software and service contracts such as Energy Cap and the Schneider Metering platforms. As such the position will maintain energy metering online platform and software access and contract as well as the bill payment and energy tracking. Document staffing needs to improve building and system sub metering. (15%)
Serve as project manager on energy conservation initiatives, audits, metering upgrades, enhanced commissioning, including contracting and coordinating with needed vendors and internal staff to ensure systems are operating effectively. (15%)

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist the Office of Energy and Sustainability with project management of the student sustainability ambassador program. (5%)
Assist students and faculty with access to and understanding of energy data as possible as it relates to research or course content. (2%)
Participate in community and membership group events, efforts and challenges such as the 2030 District, Ohio Chapter of the USGBC and Cleveland Engineering Society and develop relationships with like Universities to monitor their energy conservation and Climate Action Plan strategies and benchmark CWRU’s programs and initiatives. Lead the monitoring, prioritization and recommendations for renewable energy systems on and off campus. (4%)
Liaison with the Medical Center Company operations department and Principals and their staff in order to provide optimum facility needs while reducing energy consumption levels. (5%)
Responsible for compiling, maintaining, and filing all internal and external energy reports, sewer district stormwater credits, and other documents required including dashboarding relevant energy data for online consumption. (5%)

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 8 years of experience in energy management

Education/Licensing: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar degree. Certified Energy Manager (CEM) license preferred or will need obtain during first year of employment. LEED Accredited Professional preferred.

Experience implementing an energy management program in a higher education or very similar institutional environment .
Experience with research and laboratory environments or similar intense energy use environments.

Energy Analyst – LEED Reviewer

JOB SUMMARY: This person will perform in-depth analyses of building models for projects attempting LEED Certification. The Energy Analyst will utilize the relevant ASHRAE Standards and LEED Protocols to determine whether the models from various forms of software meet the prescribed mandatory requirements and demonstrate the adequate energy savings, as well as whether the HVAC systems have been designed to provide adequate outdoor air for ventilation.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in building sciences, mechanical or electrical engineering, or energy policy
Technical knowledge and at least three years of work experience in HVAC systems, building energy modeling, energy efficiency, renewable energy, building commissioning, or energy systems construction.
A basic understanding of building design and construction process
