Green Building Environmental Specialist

Under general supervision of the Deputy/Chief Building Official, Supervising Plans Examiner, or Supervising Building Inspector, helps to manage and enhance the City of Santa Cruz Green Building Program, CALGreen, building decarbonization, building electrification, and related programs; reviews plans for compliance with local green building regulations and building decarbonization requirements, such as building electrification and related requirements; performs field inspections on structures during various stages of construction for compliance of pre-approved green building, building decarbonization, building electrification, and related measures; performs related tasks as assigned.

Typical Duties

(May include, but are not limited to, those duties listed below.)

Performs green building, building decarbonization, and building electrification plan review function for compliance with the city’s Green Building Program, CALGreen, building decarbonization/electrification and other applicable state and local laws.
Assists with developing outreach, training, and educational programs related to green building and building decarbonization/electrification and responsible environmental impact such as Best Management Practices for construction projects for home owners, building designers and contractors.
Assists in the development of graphic materials, handouts, website material and other similar materials available to the public.
May assist Director, Climate Action Manager or other staff and may prepare presentations; educational opportunities; program development, including but not limited to ordinance and policy development; and public outreach.
Communicates with property owners, contractors and others in the process of field inspection to schedule inspections; explain requirements; cause compliance with green building, building decarbonization, and building electrification regulations and give final sign-off approval.
Provides technical public counter support, receives permit applications reviews for code compliance and issues permits.
Provides information to the public regarding city codes relating to green building, building decarbonization, building electrification, and environmental conservation; assists architects, engineers, contractors and property owners in interpreting and meeting local and state code requirements.
Prepares and maintains forms, records and reports relative to green building, building electrification, and building decarbonization inspection activities such as statistics, quantitative data, trends, etc.
Performs other related duties that may be reasonably expected as part of this classification.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or tested equivalent and,
Three (3) years of journey level experience in the green building construction industry or related building trades which include at least three (3) months experience in green or sustainable building or in building decarbonization or electrification or which includes two (2) years of college level course work related to environmental studies, and/or practical application of alternate methods of construction.

Knowledge:

Green building, building decarbonization, building electrification, and related concepts, principles and trends.
Best Management Practices.
Familiarity with established programs such as LEED, Build It Green and other similar programs.
Basic construction concepts, building materials including alternate materials, alternative construction methods and installation practices.
Title 24, Part 11 – California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen).

Abilities:

Identify green building, building decarbonization, building electrification, and related code compliance requirements and make appropriate recommendations for corrective actions.
Read and interpret construction plans relative to conservation measures.
Prepare and maintain accurate paper- work, such as forms, records and simple reports.
Comprehensively understand the City of Santa Cruz Green Building Program, CAL green, building decarbonization regulations, building electrification, and related policies, procedures, and requirements.
Interpret, apply and explain ecologically sound construction-related codes, regulations and policies.
Communicate green building, building decarbonization, building electrification, and related policies, procedures, and requirements and alternative construction requirements, policies and decisions to the public in a courteous and effective manner.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city staff, construction professionals and members of the public.
Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Class C driver’s license.

The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive town-wide sustainability program. This position will work across all Town departments to promote, enhance, and coordinate sustainable and resilient Town operations such as (but not limited to) solid waste management, motor fleet, facility maintenance, community education and outreach, and energy efficiency and waste reduction. Work is performed under the supervision of the Budget and Performance Management Director. The Coordinator will have analytic support from Budget & Performance Analysts in the department.

Provide support for the Town’s strategic initiatives related to Town sustainability and resiliency.
Advise Town staff on implementing sustainable and resilient practices in operations, policies, and long-range planning.
Develop Town sustainability program and roadmap.
Represent the Town’s sustainability and environmental interests at local, regional, and state levels.
Promote sustainability within the organization and the values of good stewardship and responsibility including employee education, standard procedures, and policies.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Sustainability, the Manager, Sustainability will work in a demanding and high-profile organization responsible for working across the business to drive strategies and programs that support AVANGRID’s ESG+F strategy and positions AVANGRID as the leading sustainable energy company in the US.

In this role, you will work closely with the Director to support sustainability initiatives and drive accountability and coordination for those activities across a matrixed organization which includes coordination across the organization including Corporate, Networks and Renewables businesses as well as parent company representatives (Iberdrola S.A.) headquartered in Madrid, Spain.

In this role, you will work closely with the Sustainability team to support a holistic strategy for sustainability initiatives and drive accountability and coordination for those activities across a matrixed organization. The Manager will implement continual process improvements to adapt, improve and mature our non-financial data reporting to support ESG reporting and communications.

Primary areas of responsibilities will include implementation and coordination of activities across the business related to sustainability including reporting and analysis of the company’s progress on ESG+F goals, managing the non-financial reporting process, and ensuring efficient and effective coordination of ESG+F information and metrics across the organization. The Manager will also manage the data collection, review and submission of key ESG surveys and ratings and driving process improvements resulting from the results. Sustainability Coordinator

Climate Sustainability Coordinator

Summary:

The purpose of this job is to provide leadership and writing skills in creating a collaborative, county-wide action plan for climate impact issues. Develop partnerships with county municipalities and stakeholders to establish goals and resiliency plans, plus complete four (4) Climate Adaptation and Environmental Justice outreach projects throughout the County.

Responsibilities:

Conduct high-level academic research of existing and recent data related to greenhouse gas emissions and potential impacts of climate change. Formulate goals and steps towards reducing impacts and creating long-term resiliency plans.

Develop relationships and partnerships with local governments and community groups to learn about community concerns related to climate change. Assist communities in developing plans to mitigate climate change impacts.

Draft reports and outreach communications. Assist grant partners with community outreach and grant writing for additional funding for outreach projects.

Establish models for collaboration and suggestions for other communities to create community-wide climate action plans.

Provide staffing to the advisory group, including agendas, minutes, information gathering, and summarizing. Expected in Years 2 and 3 of a 3-Year grant.

Sustainability Program Manager

Carnival is seeking a Sustainability Program Manager to support the development and implementation of the company’s sustainability strategy by supporting initiatives related to its goals and aspirations. The position will directly engage with sustainability ratings agencies, non-governmental organizations, investors and other stakeholders. POSITION DESCRIPTION:  This is a professional and administrative position responsible for organizing and coordinating the City’s sustainability and climate justice goals, programs and initiatives.  The Director of Sustainability is the central point person responsible for overseeing the City’s Climate Action Plan and energy sustainability initiatives.  The incumbent identifies and coordinates interdepartmental efforts to identify, plan, finance, and implement strategies to reduce greenhouse gas consumption and emissions, and benchmarks progress towards the City’s  carbon neutrality goals.  The Director of Sustainability serves as the City’s lead advisor on energy sustainability issues and collaborates with department heads, local governments, state agencies, and public interest groups to achieve the goals outlined in the City’s Green New Deal.  Knowledge of sustainability topics such as climate change and adaptation, greenhouse gas emissions, transportation alternatives, waste reduction, sustainable food systems, water protection, and other localized environmental and economic stressors is essential.  The incumbent must also have a deep commitment to environmental justice and for advancing social equity through environmental stewardship, public health, and sustainable urban development. The Director of Sustainability must be a champion for equity and sustainability and must be able to highlight these as core institutional values and considered in every decision made by the City.  The work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Planning and Development, in accordance with established City goals, with considerable leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in the performance of the work.  Supervision is exercised over the work of professional, technical and clerical staff.  Does related work as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

A. Possession of a Master’s Degree in engineering, architecture, environmental science, business management, public administration, urban and regional planning or a related field with similar course curriculum and five (5) years full-time paid professional experience, or its part-time paid professional equivalent; or

 

B. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, architecture, environmental science, business management, public administration, urban and regional planning or a related field with similar course curriculum and seven (7) years full-time paid professional experience, or its part-time paid professional equivalent; or 

 

C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS:  There are no residency requirements for this position. 

 

 APPOINTMENT STATUS AND EXAM REQUIREMENT:  This will be a provisional appointment pending the results of a civil service examination to be scheduled at a later date.  Permanent appointment will be dependent upon the candidate’s exam score.

Manager, Global Sustainability – Nature & Water Strategy

The Manager for Nature & Water Strategy on Global Impact’s Sustainability & ESG team will lead the development and deployment of McDonald’s global sustainability strategy for water (across supply chain and restaurants), forests, and biodiversity in partnership with key functions such as supply chain, restaurant development, markets, and other corporate functions. This role will strategically engage internal and external partners and handle project management, resource development, communications, and reporting.

Job Responsibilities:

Manage and develop McDonald’s sustainability strategy for forests, water, biodiversity, and other related impact areas, in alignment with McDonald’s teams across the business and world, along with external partners.
Drive progress against our 2030 public commitment to eliminate deforestation from our global supply chains, ensuring our actions are aligned to stakeholder expectations, emerging regulations and our strategy on other areas including climate and human rights.
Formalize our global strategies and innovation opportunities on biodiversity and water (supply chain and restaurants), building on insights and actions from existing work, global teams, market efforts, suppliers, and NGO partners.
Lead our representation with external stakeholders, including the Consumer Goods Forum Forest Positive Coalition and Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosure.
Strengthen our data and insights to enable our internal strategy execution, and to ensure robust metrics for external ESG reporting to demonstrate progress on targets in a way which is aligned to global guidance and stakeholder expectations.
Manage all aspects of areas of responsibility including budget, working group representation, best practice development, reporting, and engagement with McDonald’s markets.
Identify new partnerships, opportunities, and technologies for scaling change in a global landscape, including from McDonald’s system and external sources.
As the McDonald’s subject matter expert, build relationships cross-functionally with teams including supply chain, customer experience, restaurant development, corporate and government relations, to bring this work to life for our customers.
Collaborate with food and planet directors to advance forward looking strategic projects and innovation beyond forests and water, related to circularity, climate, nutrition, resiliency, environmental justice, etc.

Qualifications

Deep understanding of environmental sustainability issues relating to food and planet, especially on forests and water topics.
Practical experience of working on solutions to these matters across multiple countries within a large corporate, NGO or similar organisation.
Enterprise thinking, values-driven and solutions focused, with the ability to proactively identify problems and partner with the right teams internally and externally to find appropriate solutions.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, professionalism, flexibility and personability, with a desire to work in a fast-paced environmental with multiple cross-functional teams based across the world.
Strong project management, influencing and engagement skills. Collaborative attitude and ability to work independently, sensitively leading progress across global, virtual, and cross-functional teams.
Degree in sustainability, environmental management, ecology, agriculture, or a related discipline preferred.
