Responsibilities

Manage key commercial relationships with renewable energy suppliers across global markets
Onboard new contracts at execution into an asset management platform and develop commercial relationships with suppliers
Monitor the progress of contracted assets under construction and ensure compliance with all contractual obligations
Proactively identify opportunities to reduce risk and ensure that contracts deliver renewable energy in line with expectations to meet company goals
Track environmental attribute certificate delivery/retirement in accordance with contract provisions and maintain supporting documentation for audit
Ensure compliance with relevant local regulatory requirements
Stay informed and communicate market, policy and regulatory changes that could impact contract performance
Track asset P&L and provide input for asset performance reporting to management

Provide support for contract negotiations with actionable feedback on vendor performance and portfolio risks and opportunities

Leverage existing Microsoft portfolio management tools and support the continued improvement of tools, templates, and strategy

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Business, Finance or related field AND 5+ years experience (including internships) in Data Science/Analytics, Finance, Project Management, Supply Chain, and/or Operations
OR Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Business, Finance or related field AND 4+ years experience in Data Science/Analytics, Finance, Project Management, Supply Chain, and/or Operations
OR equivalent experience.

Preferred:

LEED Certification Reviewer

Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) is currently seeking a LEED Certification Reviewer to work with the LEED certification team. GBCI is the premier certification body responsible for global delivery and quality oversight of green building and green business sustainability standards. Its integrated team of green building specialists administers credentials and certifications for the U.S. Green Building Council (LEED), the International WELL Building Institute (WELL Building Standard), International Finance Corporation (EDGE), PEER, Sustainable SITES, TRUE Zero Waste, and IREE. The Certification Reviewers use their industry experience, technical expertise and project management skills to work within a dynamic, high performing cross functional team to deliver certification and onsite assessment services as appropriate for these standards.

Specific Responsibilities

Perform in-depth technical review and analyses of building design, construction, and operations for compliance with LEED rating systems on time with high quality
Educate and directly engage the marketplace by effectively communicating through written, verbal, and in-person meetings with project teams and owners
Perform quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) review of work done by other GBCI LEED Certification Reviewers, GBCI Assessors/Auditors and sub contracted review teams

Sustainability Manager

Job Summary:

The FHI 360 Sustainability Manager (SM) will play an integral role in implementing and communicating key activities in support of FHI 360’ Net Zero Initiative to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as well as in broader organizational sustainability programming. The SM will bring technical expertise and understanding of carbon accounting, organizational sustainability, and change management, ideally in the non-profit sector. In coordination with other FHI 360 staff, the SM will lead efforts by focusing on the implementation of our Carbon Reduction Plan that drives our commitment to addressing climate change through our work in global development.

Responsibilities:

Support implementation and evolution of FHI 360’s Carbon Reduction Plan for emissions reductions, including modelling new emissions reductions strategies.

Lead FHI 360’s annual scope 1, 2, and 3 corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory, including data collection, emissions factors updates, emissions calculations, verification, and data accuracy improvements.

Lead GHG footprint analysis and develop insights and feedback for relevant teams, assuring that the organization is on track to achieve its Net Zero goals.

Track and monitor FHI 360’s science-based carbon reduction and net zero commitments, including conducting re-baselining when necessary and SBTi resubmissions.

Work with external carbon accounting auditing firm to assure FHI 360’s annual carbon accounting meets international reporting standards.

Develop and support execution of Net Zero communications to promote visibility and buy-in across the organization.

Engage with business unit, regional office, and enterprise services leaders across FHI 360 to inform and present, collaborate, and gain leadership buy-in for Net Zero.

Contribute to internal and external sustainability communications and transparency efforts.

Participate in relevant forums, keep abreast of industry trends, technology, and regulations, and provide recommendations to inform future programs and initiatives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in sustainable development/sustainability, environmental science, climate change or related degree.

Typically requires 8+ years’ experience in climate change, sustainable development/sustainability or related field.

Experience working in nonprofit sector.

Carbon accounting expertise with at least 3 years’ of developing and calculating organizational GHG inventories for Scopes 1, 2 and 3.

Principal Environmental Planner – Renewable Energy

ICF is seeking a seeking an experienced Principal Environmental Planner with consulting experience and established client relationships, to play a key role in growing our energy business in Southern California. The ideal candidate will have established relationships with power generation, electrical transmission, and renewable energy project along with technical expertise leading environmental permitting, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and associated regulations. The position is based in any of our offices in San Diego, Los Angeles, Irvine with an option for remote work. Under the general direction of the Energy and Utilities Manager, the HMS Sustainability Manager will be an integral member of the Campus Planning and Facilities (CPF) team responsible for initiating, implementing, and continually improving School’s sustainability program on campus and in the labs.

The Sustainability Manager will play a key role in advising the School on how to create and implement strategies to reduce carbon emissions in its operations and capital construction/renovation programs to meet voluntary and mandatory goals established through institutional commitments.

The position will be responsible for leading engagement programs, communications, sustainability initiatives in partnership with relevant departments, supporting sustainable building operation and construction efforts along with networking and benchmarking to share and reapply best practices with the goal of addressing climate, emissions, and health.

Work with waste contractors, consultants and waste diversion partners providing services or support for City programs, including coordination and daily communication with the City’s contracted residential Pay-As-You-Throw waste hauler. Monitors contractor performance, reviews monthly billing and communicates daily with service providers to maintain a high level of customer service and adherence to City contracts.

Explore new opportunities for waste diversion including, but not limited to circular economy, a sustainable purchasing policy, reuse programs, and construction and demolition waste.

Work with special event staff, event organizers and contractors to further the City’s sustainable event programming.

Monitor and compile waste diversion metrics for internal and community programs and regularly communicate progress through annual reporting.

Develop educational and promotional content for use in the City’s ongoing communication opportunities.

Support for waste diversion grant applications and familiarity with state and regional grant programs.

Coordinates with other local governments and agencies on issues related to solid waste and recycling. Attends regional collaboration meetings to remain current on solid waste and recycling issues.

Coordinates periodic tours of local material recovery facilities (MRFs) or commercial compost operations for staff, residents and elected officials.

Assists with implementation of sustainability programs and strategic planning initiatives, which include oversight of contractors or vendors commissioned for services, tracking and analyzing data and metrics, evaluation of existing programs, grant applications, and research of sustainability topics.

Coordinates many of the City’s waste diversion programs including handling customer service requests within the City’s residential waste, recycling and compost collection program, providing direction to the city’s contracted waste haulers, and tracking assets and billing for waste collection services for zero waste efforts at community events.

Collaborates with inter-departmental staff on sustainability initiatives to establish sustainability as a core organizational value of the City, including providing education, training and tracking internal metrics for sustainability goals. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills.

Develops outreach materials and creates content for weekly updates of various City communication channels (web, print, social media, etc.). Works closely with the Communications Department and requires exceptional written communication skills and attention to detail.

Assists with support for the Community Sustainability Advisory Board through recordkeeping of Board minutes, preparation for meetings, and organization of Board-sponsored events.

Engages the community with frequent interaction with the public in representing the City at community events, increasing awareness of existing programs, and responding to questions and requests for program services.

Provides creativity and support for current and future city programs such as waste programs, pay-as-you-throw, community solar gardens, water conservation, transportation innovations, and pilot projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, or a related field. Required: a minimum of two (2) years working experience in recycling, solid waste collections or waste diversion. Experience with sustainability initiatives strongly desired. Municipal government experience preferred.

Pollution Prevention Specialist

The Pollution Prevention Specialist provides pollution prevention technical assistance to companies and organizations to help them reduce waste, conserve energy, and minimize operational costs and assist them in achieving their overall sustainability goals. This position manages associated grants, supervises student interns on pollution prevention and sustainability projects, markets the pollution prevention technical assistance services to regional companies and organizations, and builds partnerships with trade associations.

This is a grant funded position and continuation of this position is dependent on ongoing grant funding.

1. Performs pollution prevention assessments for regional companies and organizations to identify waste, energy, and cost savings opportunities. Develops written assessment reports and presents findings to organizations.

2. Manages associated grants and fee for service projects.

3. Provides technical and advisory assistance to companies and organizations regarding pollution prevention and sustainability issues. Follows up with organizations to track implemented projects and quantify reductions in waste, energy, and cost savings.

4. Provides ongoing assistance to client organizations as needed to support implementation of P2/Sustainability strategies. This may include research, pilot study projects, or other onsite assistance.

5. Supervise interns that assist with onsite assessments and interns that assist in strategy implementation at client organizations.

6. Develops marketing materials to promote pollution prevention and sustainability technical assistance to regional companies and organizations.

7. Promotes a positive image of the MSU Sustainability Program by representing the program at professional meetings, workshops, seminars, and conferences and establishing and maintaining credible relations with organizations.

8. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

9. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Sustainability Program.

10. Contributes to the overall success of the Sustainability Program by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed.

Education: A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in one of the following disciplines: Engineering, Project Management, Industrial Management, Business Management, Sustainability, Environmental Science/Management. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.

Experience: Experience in a manufacturing environment, supervision, and project development is required. Experience in process analysis/mapping and grant management is preferred.

Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, computer application skills, and the ability to analyze and compile technical and statistical data are required. The ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively with client organizations is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Other: Frequent day travel on a regular basis is required and will include an occasional overnight stay. Must have a driver’s license.

Clean Construction Analyst

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Chief of Science and Sustainable Construction, this role will encompass many of the Port Authority’s Clean Construction initiatives. As such, the prospective candidate should be knowledgeable with life cycle assessments, their stages, and boundaries; industry best practices in Clean Construction; and be able to determine next steps to reduce environmental impacts. This role will require educational outreach and demonstration of the Authority’s best practices to drive a reduction in emissions, avoid landfill waste, promote a circular economy, and to further establish the Port Authority as the national leader in Clean Construction.

Qualifications:
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following disciplines: Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, Economics, Accounting, or other related field from an accredited college or university.
Demonstrate understanding of “Buy-Cleanâ€ initiatives in Construction.
Ability to comprehend and analyze large sets of data sets using Excel, databases, Power-Bi, and statistical math functions.
Understanding of embodied carbon concepts and emissions sources from construction.
Comprehension of upstream material impacts for concrete, asphalt, structural steel, rebar, and other key construction materials as identified by the Authority.
Demonstrate the ability to quantify embodied carbon of materials and set impacts against an LCA.
