The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and storm water, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP’s water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

The Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) currently has a portfolio of capital projects valued at $23.8B, and another $10.5B projected over the next 10-year commitment plan. The projects BEDC implements allows DEP as a whole to continue to operate and maintain an exemplary water supply system.

Our In-House Design (IHD) directorate provides design and engineering services to meet operations’ needs in a manner consistent with BEDC’s core values of safety, schedule, quality, and customer service. IHD supports projects from the business case through preliminary design, design, procurement, construction, and finally with the turnover to operations. IHD’s Design Services division includes Architectural, Site Civil, Structural, Process Mechanical/HVAC, Water Tunnel Mechanical Systems, and Electrical discipline sections. Each design section prepares design and construction documents including engineering plans and specifications for the construction of water supply, sewer, and wastewater treatment infrastructure. IHD projects are typically of the highest priority for the Agency. IHD’s Engineering Services includes the Quality Assurance, Laboratory Services, Specifications/Standard Operating Procedures, Sustainability, and BIM/CADD sections. The Engineering Services division focuses on project’s sustainability, resiliency, laboratory material testing, quality reviews and inspections, standardization of documents, project delivery standards and uses current BIM/CADD technology to streamline engineering design processes.

The sustainability program ensures sustainable infrastructure investments by monitoring regulatory changes, tracking project key performance indicators and also provides support services to Engineering project teams. The OneNYC plan (www.nyc.gov/onenyc) has set social, economic, and environmental objectives to ensure the sustainable future of New York, while preparing for climate change and reducing our impacts. Advancing sustainability goals will include a mix of data analysis, conducting workshops and presentations, and coordinating with internal and external entities. In addition, the program facilitates LEED and Envision project certifications. This position requires work with a variety of project stakeholders including engineers, architects, operators, community boards and urban planners where excellent communication and client service skills are required.Â

BEDC is seeking to hire two Assistant Civil Engineers, Sustainability Analysts to support the sustainability program. The Sustainability Analysts will ensure consistency in design deliverables across all capital programs in order to support DEP operating bureaus’ capital construction requirements in a manner consistent with BEDC’s Core values.

The Sustainability Analysts assist the sustainability program which implements City-wide sustainability objectives through the development of Bureau specific standards. BEDC delivers drinking water, wastewater treatment and combined sewer overflow infrastructure projects which must meet sustainable objectives by balancing three core elements: social impacts, environmental impacts and economic impacts. The Sustainability Analysts ensure sustainable infrastructure investments by monitoring regulatory changes, tracking project key performance indicators and also provides support services to Engineering project teams by providing support services. Advancing sustainability goals will include a mix of data analysis, conducting workshops and presentations, and coordinating with internal and external entities. This position requires working with a variety of project stakeholders including engineers, architects, operators, community boards, urban planners as well as Intra-Agency groups, other City Agencies, and key program stakeholders, hence, excellent communication, client service and coordination skills are required.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master’s degree from an accredited college in civil engineering.

Energy Engineer – Construction/Renewable Projects

Job Description:

ICF’s Commercial Energy Division is growing, and we seek a consultant to join our Technical Advisory team in our Independent Engineering/Owner’s Advisory line of business. Our work is focused on energy sector projects and encompasses all phases of project lifecycle from concept development through decommissioning. This includes technical advisory and due diligence for projects during development and financing, construction monitoring, performance testing, periodic O&M and operating budget reviews, decommissioning, expert witness, and restructuring activities. Personnel within the Technical Advisory practice have experience in numerous technologies including; PV solar, wind, concentrating solar power, biomass, waste-to-energy, biofuels, emerging process technologies, combined cycle and simple cycle plants, thermal technologies, distributed generation, storage, demand response and other energy related technologies.

Our Technical Advisory team works collaboratively with our Power and Gas Market team, Environment and Planning team, and the greater ICF to provide comprehensive advisory services including strategic, investment, and portfolio management, operational planning; market development; policy analysis; regulatory support; and customer engagement.

Consultants at ICF integrate industry experience and advanced consulting and analytical skills. As a Construction and Structural Engineer, you will utilize your experience in industrial construction, cost estimating, and/or development of civil and structural design packages to support our team with a proven track record of technical consulting and engaging with client decision-makers at manager to senior executive levels.

Clean Energy Program Manager

As a technical team member of the Energy Conservation and Management Division (ECMD) Energy Technology and Engineering Bureau, this position is responsible for providing technical assistance to ECMD programs and develops energy efficiency and renewable energy technology program plans for implementation by the Division and Bureau.
How does it get done?
This position provides technical assistance on high priority initiatives such as solar technology, energy storage and environmental regulatory policy. The position is the primary point of contact for all solar-related technical assignments. This position responds to constituent inquiries on a daily basis, as well as provide staff the subject matter expertise to provide assistance to renewable energy developers on the evaluation of technologies eligible for tax credit applications. This position is responsible for reviewing and providing expertise on legislation, regulations, performance contracting, and external projects. This position coordinates with renewable energydevelopers and or installers, regional governments, and members of the public.

Director, Office of Sustainability and Asset Management

The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Management is looking for a dynamic, innovative, seasoned executive to lead its Office of Sustainability and Asset Management. As DOE’s chief subject matter expert in sustainability and climate resilience, real property management, and personal property management, the incumbent plays a vital role in promoting sustainability and improved infrastructure in collaboration with DOE’s program offices. The incumbent provides expert policy guidance to support sustainability and real property initiatives, assesses and validates the condition of DOE’s assets, and leads efforts to disseminate best practices to facilitate achievement of sustainability goals and infrastructure improvements.

As the Director Office of Sustainability and Asset Management you will:

Implement Executive Orders 13390, 14008, 14030, 14057, and any subsequent Orders, with goals related to energy, water, and materials consumption in existing buildings as well as the construction of new buildings and major renovations of existing buildings. Also implement goals involving the agency’s vehicle fleet.
Manage the Department’s sustainability, real property, facilities (including condition), fleet management, and personal property inventory management and information management systems to assess program performance against quarterly/annual goals; ensure prompt and accurate reporting.
Serve as the agency’s Senior Real Property Officer (SRPO) as described in Executive Order 13327, “Federal Real Property Asset Management.” Develop, and interpret policies, procedures, requirements, and guidance in collaboration with Departmental programs regarding sustainability, real property (including real estate), facilities and infrastructure, and personal property management for DOE labs, sites, and plants. Maintain policies, requirements, and guidance in accordance with Departmental Directives program.
Participate in operational program reviews, conduct data analysis, and provide recommendations on issues to the Director, Office of Management, the Deputy Secretary, the Under Secretaries, Site Managers, and program offices, as appropriate.
Coordinate and perform in-field management assessments and audits/surveillance and provide technical direction to the dedicated contractor staff responsible for execution of assigned programs/projects.

The Position:
The Sustainability Coordinator will play a pivotal role in supporting efforts and initiatives set forth by the Office of Sustainability. Under the direction of the Experiential Learning Manager, the Sustainability Coordinator:

Carries out annual, periodic, and daily duties related to coordinating the Presidential Sustainability Internship Program (approximately 12-20 interns), including:
Compiling the inventory of Office of Sustainability and partner needs for interns for the upcoming fiscal year, including preferred majors or skills.

Sustainability and Energy Specialist

This individual will assist the Energy and Sustainability Manager by evaluating, estimating, and planning energy related projects or upgrades to equipment at Kwik Trip, Inc. facilities. They will also provide support/knowledge as it pertains to Kwik Trip’s Sustainability initiatives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Auditing of Kwik Trip’s current assets to look for equipment upgrade opportunities in an attempt to increase performance and reduce electric consumption
Researching viable energy management projects and preparing documentation on energy saving proposals or upgrades to equipment and facilities
Analyzing and reporting monthly energy data in a meaningful way for decisions to be made based on data
Support evaluation of environmental, energy and corporate social responsibility portfolio and identify opportunities to support Kwik Trip’s sustainability objectives and initiatives

Qualifications:

Energy & Sustainability Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of a higher classified employee, leads energy-related initiatives both internal and external to Washtenaw County government operations. Facilitates collaboration between Washtenaw County; federal, state, and local governments; and non-profit organizations to develop long-range strategies for intelligent energy management. Examinations, identifies, and implements energy-efficiency measures in County government facilities; exploration of alternative fuel and renewable energy applications; production of annual reports; and provision of sound policy recommendations. Works to achieve net cost savings for Washtenaw County government as well as supporting projects that contribute to environmental responsibility and community development.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Essential Duties:

Supervise and participate in the monitoring and analysis of fleet, facility, and equipment energy usage required by internal Washtenaw County government operations. Produce reports summarizing status and recommending action.

Manages internal recycle program and solid waste program that includes: waste reduction, recycling of waste, disposal of solid waste, electronic waste, and scrap metal management. Manages waste and recycling vendors.

Identify and prioritize energy efficiency opportunities. Research and pursue supplemental funding sources. Participate in specification, bidding, and installation of energy efficiency measures. Track results and manage progress in terms of both cost savings and environmental impacts resulting from energy use.

Create and maintain baseline energy use (water, gas and electric). Investigate utility invoice anomalies, and verify accurate meter reads. Verify all utility invoices are under the most advantageous utility rate and billing is correct.

Develops recommendations regarding conservation technologies, renewable energy and sustainable systems.

Serve as a primary contact for Washtenaw County and the gas and electric utilities. Maintain up-to-date awareness of policy changes, rate changes, and incentive programs. Assist Washtenaw County Support Services in making informed decisions on policies related to utilities.

Manage special projects related to energy, including the pursuit of creative financing options for projects. Explore the initiation of a Washtenaw County Energy Fund, potentially using models currently in place at the City of Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan. Research, write, and submit grant proposals for supplemental funding. Manage grants as awarded.

Lead, support, improve, and expand long-range planning around energy initiatives.

In partnership with the Fleet Manger, coordinate improvement of efficiencies and accountability for fuel use and expansion of the alternative fuel vehicle fleet. Pursue incentives (such as rebates, grants, etc.) to assist in achieving these goals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.

EDUCATION

Green Building Specialist

The Technical Customer Service (TCS) team provides customized and technical support for all of USGBC and GBCI’s certifications and credentials, including LEED, WELL, SITES, EDGE, PEER, ParkSmart, and TRUE to current and potential project teams and stakeholders. This is a dynamic, integrated team of architects, engineers, building scientists, landscape architects, planners, and sustainable development professionals with a combined 250 years of green building expertise. Together, we respond to approximately 3,000 inquiries per month across most of the USGBC and GBCI’s programs and products, including certifications, credentials, and education.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As an integral member of a team of experts, you’ll use your sustainability expertise to craft expert guidance for LEED project teams in response to their technical inquiries. As you grow in your role, you may specialize in one or more of our LEED credit categories, building relationships with other experts in the organization and investing in the continuous improvement process for LEED guidance.
You will use and build on our team’s library of rating system expertise and best practices.
Using professional writing and speaking skills, you’ll communicate across boundaries with a spirit of mission-driven teamwork and professionalism. You’ll work with project teams who are new to our rating systems and educational offerings, as well as those who are experts themselves, fostering empowerment and education through LEED.

Requirements

What You Need To Bring:

3-10 years of professional experience in a field related to green design and construction, sustainable operations and maintenance, and/or sustainability education.
Experience assisting with LEED project applications, green building consulting on LEED projects or other rating systems
Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study, such as sustainability, architecture, engineering, landscape design, building management, environmental science, environmental education, etc.
A current USGBC or GBCI credential, or a commitment to earn one within the first year of employment.

Senior Energy Engineer

NORESCO’s Energy Engineering team is responsible for identifying energy savings and carbon reduction opportunities for facilities of all sizes in support of our Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC). Our Engineering team’s primary focus is to analyze current energy systems and consumption and to make recommendations for upgrades necessary to decrease carbon footprint and overall utility costs. This is a remote position.

About this role:

We have an immediate need for a Senior Energy Engineer in our West Region.

At NORESCO, teamwork is essential as every person on our team plays a vital role in the successful completion of every project we do. As a Senior Energy Engineer, you will have a great deal of interaction with customers as well as other NORESCO staff including Sales, Project Development, Construction, Measurement and Verification (M&V) and other Engineering staff. You will also be representing NORESCO during customer sites visits, progress meetings, and sales presentations. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to possess strong verbal and written communication skills as well as a strong technical background.

Key Responsibilities:

Analyze utility bill data to determine customer energy performance parameters
Perform existing building assessments to take inventory of and analyze HVAC, water, building envelope, and plant efficiency; make retrofit recommendations based on impacts of energy, operational, and environmental savings
Set up BAS trends, install data logging equipment, and analyze collected data.
Identify and evaluate energy conservation measures using energy modeling and spreadsheet analysis
Evaluate renewable energy and resilience opportunities using industry tools and spreadsheet analysis
Develop initial cost estimates associated with mechanical energy conservation measures.
Write scopes of work for HVAC and building automation system improvements, including points lists and sequences of operation, to be included in subcontractor bid documents
Write detailed ECM descriptions to be included in competitive proposal submissions and/or construction contract documents
Participate in customer meetings and presentations, including competitive oral interviews, to present technical solutions and alternatives
Research into emerging markets such as battery energy storage, microgrids, electrification of transportation, etc
Research and understand legislation/local code requirements for States in the West Region
Collaborate with other team members, including those in the M&V, design, and construction groups
Availability to travel out of state to customer sites (up to 35%)

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor Degree in Engineering
10+ years of experience in energy auditing and analysis, particularly related to HVAC and building automation systems
5+ years of experience working for an ESCO developing energy conservation measures for ESPC

Preferred Qualifications:

Expertise in HVAC equipment and systems, including chillers, boilers, air handlers, motors and variable speed drives
Expertise in building automation systems, and the ability to develop control strategies to reduce energy consumption
Expertise in renewable energy systems, battery storage, and/or microgrids preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) preferred
Ability to work independently with a remote team
Proficiency with supporting software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
Proficiency with remote communication tools (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, SharePoint, etc.) preferred
Proficiency with building energy modeling software (eQUEST, EnergyPlus) and renewable energy tools preferred
