Director Environmental and Sustainability Programs

As a Director Environmental and Sustainability Programs you will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and management of Organon’s comprehensive environmental programs. You will also be responsible for development, implementation tracking and reporting of Organon’s sustainability initiatives. This role requires strategic vision, leadership, and collaboration across various functions to ensure regulatory compliance and drive continuous improvement in environmental and sustainability practices. You will have two direct reports, i.e. one Associate Director and one Senior Specialist.

Responsibilities

Develop and oversee the execution of Organon’s environmental and sustainability strategies and programs.
Conduct and oversee environmental assessments to identify opportunities for improvement.
Ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability regulations and standards.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to integrate sustainability practices into business operations in alignment with Company goals and values.
Champion initiatives to support the company’s sustainability goals and ambitions, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, and resource conservation projects.

Prepare and present reports on sustainability performance and environmental impact to senior management and various stakeholders.
Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, community groups, and industry partners to promote and enhance the company’s environmental compliance programs and sustainability efforts.
Monitor and analyze environmental legislation and regulatory changes to ensure the organization’s compliance.
Collaborate with various departments to integrate environmental policies into business operations.
Lead a team of environmental and sustainability professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance management.

Required Education, Experience and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 15 years of experience within the pharmaceutical, biochemical, chemical, petrochemical or process related industry, with 10 years of experience in environmental management, sustainability programs, or a related role.
Demonstrated success in leading environmental compliance programs and sustainability initiatives and projects.
Strong knowledge of environmental and sustainability regulations and practices.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and sustainability reporting software.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills

Master’s degree is preferred.
Professional certifications such as LEED AP, CEM, or similar.
Experience with sustainability reporting frameworks such as GRI, CDP, or SASB.
Dutch and Spanish language skills are considered a plus.

This is a remote position and will be based in Plymouth Meeting or Jersey City (US), or Oss (The Netherlands). Travel to the Organon manufacturing sites will be required, along with occasional travel to meetings in the US. Total travel will not exceed 25%.

Overview

This position is responsible for the implementation, promotion, and design of Energy Efficiency programs.

Responsibilities

Required Education

Boston Energy Saver Manager

The Boston Energy Saver Manager will lead the implementation of the Boston Energy Saver, an innovative new program designed to help Bostonians lower their energy bills and fossil fuel use by connecting them with clean energy programs and resources. This position will develop, implement, and support projects, policies, and programs that reduce carbon emissions, increase energy efficiency and renewable energy, and provide support for building owners, residents, and small businesses. The Manager will engage with Boston residents, building owners, and other stakeholders to provide building decarbonization support and to connect them with resources. The Boston Energy Saver Manager will report to the Building Decarbonization Program Manager in the Environment Department and will work closely with other members of the Carbon Neutrality Team.

Mayor Wu’s administration is committed to a Green New Deal for Boston by reducing planet-warming pollution while creating economic opportunities for everyone, especially those from environmental justice communities who often suffer the worst impacts of climate change. In her 2025 State of the City address, Mayor Wu announced the launch of the Boston Energy Saver, a partnership with Eversource, National Grid, and non-profit partners that will help Boston residents and small businesses access Mass Save® financial incentives and credits to upgrade their homes and energy systems and lower energy costs. Through the program, the City will help renters, homeowners, and business owners decide on the best investments to make in their homes and access the financial support available to pay for them, reducing their energy bills and improving building performance.

The Carbon Neutrality team in the Environment Department works to implement building decarbonization policies and programs, including the Boston Energy Saver, the Building Emissions Reduction and Disclosure Ordinance (BERDO 2.0), which sets carbon targets for medium- and large-sized buildings across Boston to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, and the Retrofit Resource Hub, which provides technical and financial resources to building owners and tenants.

Job Summary

The Director of Sustainability Americas has the overall responsibility to serve as a trusted partner to Americas for the purpose of improving the business’s performance in key Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) areas. Compensation

This is a full-time, exempt, remote eligible position.

The expected base salary range for this role is $113,000 to $140,000 USD.

Responsibilities

Maintain the Americas’ ESG Scorecard at least quarterly to drive the discussions and ESG action plans at the Management team level and in preparation for Group Management Board and Board meetings.
Prepare monthly reporting of sustainability KPIs for Americas to WFS Americas Management and SATS Group management.
Act as a focal point and work with finance, procurement, HSSE, HC, and other functions to collect, verify, report, and analyze Americas’ ESG data on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis.

Undergraduate degree or equivalent in relevant area such as Environmental Studies, Business, Accounting, Engineering, etc.; certification in Sustainability/ESG a plus.

Sustainability Engineer

The Strategic Programs and Partnerships (SP2) ​Sustainability Engineer at General Motors is responsible for managing third-party contracts that support the Resource Management (RM) and Chemical Management (CM) programs at select sites. This role is crucial in championing waste compliance and executing GM’s Zero Waste goals. This role will act as the SP2 team battery management Subject Matter Expert (SME)

The Resource Management (RM) Program is a strategic alternative to traditional waste management and contracting designed to implement innovative source reduction, recycling, and recovery methods to continually improve the value of GM by-products or “Resources.” This program is integral to achieving GM’s Zero Waste goal and ensuring waste compliance.

Implement Battery Management Programs: Work cross functionally to develop and implement systems to support GM’s electrification programs as it pertains to waste and scrap generation. Including third party locations. (May be called upon for global programs)

Your Skills & Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree with a major in Engineering or related sciences field.

3+ years experience leading, managing, or overseeing small teams, projects, and/or contracted environmental service providers.

Must be able to travel regularly, to support plant operations, along with program and facility launch activities.

Apply qualitative and quantitative skills relevant to environmental programs (e.g., modeling, budgeting, financial analysis, life cycle assessment, interviewing, surveying, environmental and risk communication).

Analyze data and develop materials to communicate strategic RM/CM program initiatives.

Work independently and collaboratively for effective project management and communication.

Apply best practices to real-world sustainability in manufacturing and non-manufacturing contexts.

Act as a change agent.

·Communicate effectively with peers, strategic partners, GM Finance, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, and GM leadership.

Evaluate and resolve problems collaboratively and independently.

Resolve issues with internal and external constituencies.
