Sustainability and Pond Manager

The Impact and Sustainability Manager will develop, advocate and share knowledge on environmental and natural resource programs at the resort and in the community. Provide education on the environmental and cultural sites of Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort with genuine aloha and hospitality. Foster a culture of continual learning at the property and collaboration amongst all stakeholders. Engage actively with the guests, associates and community to create relationships that enrich people and place. Identify and assist in the coordination of events and initiatives at the property and in the community where we meld Hawaiian practices with modern technology to create and drive sustainability initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage environmental and natural resource programs including waste reduction, green waste initiatives, recycling, and conservations efforts and ensure all guidelines on environmental preservation, re-usage and minimum wastage, purchasing and packaging, social responsibility and all other practices are followed in the resort. Develop associates’ awareness in environmental conservation through frequent training and activities. Will be the leader of all facets of Rosewood Impacts and Rosewood Sustainability programs which include awareness of waste, clean energy, water usage, and plastic elimination. Develop and manage programs for recycling, reducing or reusing waste. He/she would continuously update and translate all related guidelines from Global Office and provide ongoing compliance and execution of the Sustainability Action Plan.

Oversee the overall care and maintenance of the natural fishponds (Loko I’a), Anchialine ponds, man-made ponds, and coastal shoreline at Kona Village. Collaborate with the management team and assist with the on-site gardens and honey farm as needed. Be committed to preserving and perpetuating the land and natural resources and understand the impact of sustainability as it relates to local Hawaiian culture and practices. Promote education and awareness on sustainability and develop partnerships with local farmers, fisheries, schools and the community. Ensure that protected species like Nene goose, sea turtles and monk seals are safe by creating educational messages and signage for staff and guests.

Offer educational tours to guests of the resort to share the rich and historic culture and heritage of Kona Village. Develop a strong relationship with other resorts, area sustainability groups, cultural advisors, and community organizations. Participate and be active in local organizations promoting ecological preservation. (Example Ka’upulehu Marine Live Advisory Committee and Hui Loko). Create a committee that supports the sustainability plan and programming through Rosewood Sustains and Rosewood Impacts initiatives. Motivate and encourage associates of the resort to participate in community events such as beach clean-up days, charitable events, and Malama Aina Days.

Collaborating with partners across multiple functions to support implementation of global targets and other initiatives.

Communications: Support the Brand and communications departments to tell the Social Impact story, making social impact a key communication factor across multiple channels.

Talent and Culture: Collaborate with the Talent and Culture team to educate and engage the team members on all aspects regarding Social Impact. Make the value and benefits of social projects known and visible to associates through engagement to deepen their affiliation to the Rosewood brand. Support the Talent and Culture team with cross-functional projects, such as the implementation of DEI strategy on property.

Collaborate with other departments such as Engineering, Operations, Finance as needed to successfully drive progress.

Conduct ongoing in-depth data analysis of social impact key metrics related to the group’s public social impact commitments and provide actionable recommendations to key stakeholders on property.

Report data to internal stakeholders on property as well as the Global Social Impact team on a regular basis and as requested.

Support the Global Social Impact team with any adhoc queries, including but not limited to research and climate and sustainability strategic advisory.

Lead the generation of customer insights reports and monitor market and industry trends related to social impact and sustainability to identify new opportunities

Maintain regular and scheduled communication with the Cultural Advisory Group, including quarterly meetings and individual one-on-one meetings with members. Lead and coordinate cultural meetings with a structured agenda to drive initiatives. Be present, when possible, for important events at the Resort: groundbreakings, blessings, anniversaries, employee orientations. Attend training/gatherings around the Hawaiian Islands with groups that promote Hawaiian Cultural Education and Values. Acts as the advisor for any initiative, program that impacts the land and its history, legacy and the community.

Develop and maintain the Kona Village Resort Library to serve as a resource and available for guests to borrow while on property.

Manage and care for the archives that have been recovered on property. See to their care and storage and periodic inventory and maintenance/restoration. This includes collaboration with Kamehameha Schools and other preservation societies.

Develops and implements the agreed annual budget and business plan for the Department and makes recommendations for capital improvements to enhance the assets of the hotel. Monitors the financial performance and operational plans of the Department to support the agreed overall objectives.

CRITICAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Minimum 2 years employment in the hospitality industry. Experience working with local farmers, fishermen, and other agencies related to the role.

The Energy Analyst will complete energy saving calculations for end-users who have completed high efficiency equipment upgrade projects (i.e. lighting, HVAC, motors, controls) or are looking to reduce energy usage. The role will involve using MS Office with a large focus in MS Excel and other tracking tools. The Energy Analyst will communicate with clients, end-use customers, contractors and other via phone and/or email to build relationships that can bring more projects for existing and new clients. Conduct or coordinate facility site visits, ASHRAE audits (Level I & II)

Minimum Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s degree in energy, finance, economics, business administration, engineering or a related field.

● Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience.

● Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

Position Location:

Associate Director of the Office of Sustainability

UC San Francisco is seeking an Associate Director of the Office of Sustainability that is passionate about making lasting environmental improvements in a public sector higher education research, learning and health institution. The ideal candidate will have knowledge in a breadth of sustainability practices including but not limited to climate change and resiliency measures, zero waste, green built environs, sustainable procurement, clean energy and efficiency strategies, environmental justice, green health practices and communications. This position will assist the Office of Sustainability of UWM to collect, analyze and report on sustainability efforts, support UWM Office of Sustainability operations staff, and aid in coordination of sustainability programming. The Sustainability Coordinator supports various unit initiatives and serves as a sustainability resource to staff, students, and the community. In the absence of the Sustainability Director, the Sustainability Coordinator provides coverage.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in any area of study
Minimum of one year of supervision or leadership experience.
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office, including Excel, in a professional environment.
Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver license (or other such valid operator’s permit recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation) and be able to meet or exceed the minimum requirements for driving on state business as detailed here: https://uwm.edu/risk-management/drivers/
Willingness to operate (learn and operate) a box truck in a dense urban environment

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a higher education environment
Experience in data collection with a focus on sustainability metrics (e.g. energy, water, waste, etc.)
Experience analyzing large data sets using sustainability software platforms (e.g. SIMAP)
Experience in sustainability reporting (e.g. STARS, Greenhouse Gas Inventory, etc.)
Demonstrated ability to self-direct, make autonomous and proactive decisions, and communicate issues and concerns
Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, evaluate, and modify sustainability programming
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and programs with different timelines, scales, and scopes
Demonstrated experience operating a box truck in an urban environment
Demonstrated experience operating a forklift or a forklift certification
Demonstrated experience operating recycling and warehouse equipment, including cardboard baler, recycling compactor, and pallet jacks

Energy Program Associate

The Green Energy Consumers Alliance is a private, nonprofit organization founded in 1982, with a mission to empower consumers and communities to speed a just transition to clean a zero-carbon world. We have 18 employees and offices in Boston and Providence. We combine consumer-facing programs with public policy advocacy at the state and local levels in Massachusetts and Rhode Island – work that is more important now than ever. The programs we have for consumers include green electricity, heating, rooftop solar, Shave the Peak, energy efficiency, heat pumps, and an electric vehicle program called Drive Green.

We are searching for someone who is passionate about climate action and excited to work helping consumers access clean energy solutions such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, and heat pumps. A strong interest in those technologies is essential. So is flexibility, as this program associate will be working on more than one project in a week and with various small teams within the organization. The successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to learn about the field.

Responsibilities

Tasks for the Associate will include:

Staying up-to-date on key clean energy technologies, markets, and policies, and researching more deeply as needed;

Taking incoming and outgoing calls and emails for current and prospective members and partner organizations, answering questions about technologies, incentives, and Green Energy Consumers programs;

Performing community outreach and education, including;

Creating content for our website, presentations, blog, and email and social media campaigns;

Engaging with our partner organizations;

Presenting to racially and culturally diverse audiences in-person and on webinars;

Representing our organization at events (i.e. tabling). Events are often held at night and on weekends, and the Associate would be able to adjust their schedule to attend events once or twice per month (less in winter, more in spring);

Some data entry;

Helping to manage and implement day-to-day operations; and

Other program tasks and projects as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

A passion for energy and climate issues;

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an associate’s degree plus relevant experience;

Good written and/or oral communication skills for interacting with members & the public seeking solutions via our programs;

Strong organizational and time management skills;
Detail oriented;
Ability to attend events in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including occasional evenings and weekends, as needed (mileage or travel costs reimbursed);
Driver’s license required;

Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Google Suite;

Flexible and adaptable demeanor;

Willingness to work on administrative tasks as needed to support a small team;

The ability to work well in a team: openness, honesty, kindness, and a sense of humor are appreciated!;

Ability to work from our Providence or Boston office as necessary, at least one day a week;

Roots in Massachusetts and/or Rhode Island, meaning past or present residence in either state and familiarity with the geography, politics, and communities; and

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination, including a booster shot.

Preferred qualifications include:

Experience in the clean energy field.

Fluency in a language other than English, particularly Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Cantonese, or Mandarin.

Customer service experience.

Compensation

$52,000 – $55,000/ year based upon an hourly wage of $27-$28 for a 37.5-hour work week
