The Sustainability Program Manager is focused on developing, implementing, and managing initiatives that further integrate Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility into Sierra Nevada’s culture, operations, and value chain to address the environmental, social, and economic impacts of the company. Reporting to the Chief, Sustainability & Social Impact Officer and in collaboration with Sustainability Program Manager counterpart, this role requires a high level of decision-making, professionalism, technical knowledge, and the ability to own initiatives and drive behavior change at respective brewery. This position collaborates across all departments and teams as well as fulfills external, public-facing responsibilities within the local and regional community and with advocacy partners. The Sustainability Program Manager is responsible for both internal and external engagement, program/project creation and management, metrics tracking and reporting, and is a key role in executing and achieving Hop Forward initiatives – the company’s environmental and social impact initiatives. What You Will Do

Research, lead, develop, and implement programs and projects related to energy, water, zero waste, transportation, supply chain, climate change and greenhouse gas emissions facility-wide; responsible for monthly tracking of energy, water, and waste KPI metrics.
Manage zero waste program including recycling cooperative, hauler/vendor relationships, conducting audits, assessing domestic and foreign markets, and tracking KPI metrics monthly; also support Produced Events and Brewery Support teams with zero waste plans and infrastructure
Support the completion and maintenance of the company’s greenhouse gas inventory for scopes 1, 2 and 3 and assist in the development of strategic, company-wide reduction goals and targets
Research, apply for, and manage grants and other funding mechanisms through local, state, or federal programs that support company initiatives to reduce GHG emissions and other environmental impact goals
Build relationships and support the implementation of company-wide initiatives to achieve strategic goals and commitments related to Sustainability and CSR
Develop and deliver educational content and training materials for site-based employees as well as resources and guidance for external-facing teams (Sales, Field Marketing, and Guest Experience)
Support the development and creation of the annual company impact report as well as additional Sustainability/CSR marketing materials and content
Primary contact and Subject Matter Expert for sustainability initiatives at respective brewery
Manage plant-specific budget for department and make purchasing decisions as appropriate
Represent Sierra Nevada through our advocacy partners as well as serve as a liaison with city, county and regional organizations with respect to relevant sustainability impacts and initiatives
Develop and maintain community partnerships with local environmental/sustainability groups as well as other businesses through speaking engagements, onsite community-facing events, and VIP tours
Support broader corporate responsibility initiatives as needed

Environmental Management Division Chief

Arlington County’s Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking an Environmental Management Division Chief to lead the Office of Sustainability and Environmental Management (OSEM) and to plan and implement the County’s community-wide climate action goals outlined in the Community Energy Plan and Carbon Roadmap document. This role reports directly to the DES Chief Deputy Director while also providing leadership to and managing the County’s Stormwater Management program. The incumbent should be an experienced, innovative, and results-oriented leader in a diverse and engaged community that values their role in environmental stewardship and action.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader with a progressive vision for climate change action planning and implementation and have a strong record of achievement in stormwater and environmental programs management. They will also possess demonstrated success in the technical, strategical, tactical, and policy-driven aspects of energy efficiency and climate programs, ideally across multiple sectors including buildings, transportation, renewable energy, and alternative/emerging forms of energy resources. The candidate should also be comfortable serving as the primary liaison for the Division on constituency and communications issues, responding directly on behalf of the Director.
Responsibilities

Specific duties include:

Managing, developing, supporting and ensuring documentation of long- and short-term Bureau/program missions, goals, objectives, policies, guidelines, and procedures and ensuring specific action plans are in place to accomplish goals;
Providing guidance and oversight on the creation and continued development of a sustainable Stormwater Infrastructure Program and coordinating the work of the Stormwater Infrastructure Management Team;
Providing project management planning and oversight for all environmental projects, including stormwater infrastructure and watershed management projects in the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), $334.2M ten-year Capital program;
Overseeing the growth of the Arlington Initiative to Rethink Energy (AIRE) program, including the green building incentive program and other energy efficiency and environmental sustainability initiatives throughout the County government;
Reviewing policy development and decisions, the site plan review process and incentives, assisting program managers with business outreach activities, and monitoring the results of the Green Home Choice program;
Providing management oversight of Watershed Management programs, including implementation of the County’s Watershed Management Plan, administration of the County’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit, inspection and investigative services, construction and environmental clean-up projects, federal, state and local regulations and permitting requirements compliance;
Managing a staff of approximately 35 professional planners, engineers and technicians and directly supervising several first-line programs managers: making hiring decisions, assigning work projects, reviewing work progress on a regular basis, evaluating performance, taking disciplinary actions, and approving leave;
Managing the Bureau’s budget, which is comprised of a multitude of funding sources, including CIP funds, enterprise funds and general funds: analyzing previous and anticipated expenditures, projecting new fiscal year budgets, conducting or reviewing cost analysis and needs studies, preparing or overseeing the preparation of board reports requesting additional resources, and monitoring the budget to ensure expenditures remain within the approved Bureau budget, $17.8M stormwater operating budget funded through stormwater utility, $2M AIRE operating budget, up to $5.5M of other climateenergy investments;
Overseeing Bureau capital projects and programs, to ensure that County residents and other stakeholders are fully informed about project or program planning, design, and construction activities, in accord with County and DES community engagement guidelines;
Providing professional guidance, technical expertise and advice, and performing program liaison work to promote programs and services, ensuring compliance with regulations and facilitating interaction among staff, internal, and external agencies;
Building consensus and conveying Arlington’s viewpoint with regional partners and with state and federal agencies, and dealing effectively with Arlington’s engaged local community; and
Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with staff, elected officials, community stakeholders, federal, state and regional funding partners, County Commissions and Advisory Boards and working collaboratively with the County’s Climate Policy Office (CPO) and CMO to promote the overall County Environmental programs.

Qualifications

Minimum:

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management, Civil or Environmental Engineering, or directly related field; and
Three (3) years’ progressively responsible experience in Stormwater Management, Energy Management, or Environmental Planning, to ensure compliance with regulations and permit requirements as well as managing environmental construction projects and interdisciplinary teams.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with an MPA, MBA, or a Master’s degree in a related field as well as experience in one or more of the following:

Leading large and diverse teams in a government organization, authority, utility, or comparable environment;
Managing performance-based energy and climate programs/project;
Planning and managing federal and state grant-funded projects;
Implementing green building, renewable energy, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reductions and other climate/environmental/energy sustainability initiatives; and/or
Utilizing climate and energy-sector metrics, analytics, and tools to make educated and informed decisions.

Farm Energy and Agricultural Engineering Specialist

The Farm Energy and Agricultural Engineering Specialist will serve as an integral part of UMass Extension’s clean energy and agricultural teams in providing consulting expertise and technical support across the diversity of Massachusetts agriculture, including effective outreach to and engagement with farmers. Farm energy-related focus areas include Energy Efficient Agriculture Operation, Energy Efficient Building Envelope, and Combustion System Improvement. Conducts farm and stakeholder outreach in coordination with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and our colleagues in UMass Extension, while addressing the needs of diverse stakeholders, including state and federal agency staff, regional or local government officials, farm organizations, community groups, and researchers and Extension staff. The Specialist will be well-integrated with NRCS’s energy-related programs and processes and will engage in technical assistance services across the portfolio of services that NRCS offers to its stakeholders.

Essential Functions

Designs, implements, and oversees new and existing collaborative projects and programs that involve campus-wide, local, regional and national partners in providing technical assistance to farm sector. Organizes and presents online and in-person educational programs, including creating curriculum independently or with CEE staff, co-hosting field days and conferences. Connects and expands networks and collaborations for on-farm technical assistance.
In coordination with NRCS, identifies and engages opportunities for serving the farm sector. Conducts desk-top evaluations followed by on-farm site visits that involve energy assessments and comprehensive energy improvement plans for interested farms across Massachusetts. Analyses energy usage and energy savings opportunities across farm operations and facilities and prepare reports with key findings and recommendations addressing energy savings strategies and associated economic implications. Energy assessments and energy improvement plans will focus on actionable strategies and plans for farm electrification and energy conservation and efficiency opportunities in applications such as:
Greenhouse heating and cooling (e.g., thermal blankets, high efficiency heating systems).
Dairy/livestock operations (e.g., variable frequency drive motors for pumping and air circulation, plate coolers, heat exchangers, irrigation and livestock watering improvements).
Cold storage of fruits and vegetables (e.g., precooling of food crops, high efficiency refrigeration, controlled atmosphere strategies, heat recovery technologies, evaporative fan controls).
Maple syrup production (e.g., preheater installation, reverse osmosis (RO) systems).
Energy efficient lighting opportunities (e.g., LED lighting, timers, daylight sensors, and motion sensors).
Mobile energy use in farm tractors, machinery, and trucking (energy efficient motors, electrification options including refrigerated trucks).
Energy efficiency and operational control improvements in irrigation systems (pumping water, water use efficiency, operational resiliency, use of shade cloth and/or mulches to improve water use efficiency, etc.).
Advises client farm business in the analyses and decision-making around the financial performance of potential energy conservation and efficiency strategies. Utilizes forms and applications to meet NRCS procedures and needs, and CEE’s spreadsheet tools for project analysis. Supports and advises client farm business in the funding, implementation, and monitoring of selected energy conservation and efficiency strategies.
Supports UMass Extension’s expansion of efforts to expand the portfolio of their education and outreach offerings to include energy services. This new area of technical support will be provided through the distribution of targeted fact sheets, integration of energy assistance in UMass Extension talking points, and referrals from NRCS and UMass Extension to CEE for energy information and on-site visits and evaluations by the Specialist.
Supports and educates NRCS staff through the delivery of trainings each year to NRCS staff and partners, over a range of farm energy topics provided by CEE or determined to best meet NRCS interests. Helps to upskill and expand NRCS staff and affiliates with energy information and market challenges that NRCS can use to expand or enhance their own programs and outreach.
Works collaboratively to design and disseminate outreach materials and publications.
Communicates best practices in the field, including, amplifying on-farm energy strategies that provide co-benefits for farms and agricultural operations, promotes community engagement, or fosters impactful collaborations.
Supports CEE’s and UMass Extension’s activities, including developing program objectives, preparing reports, and identifying grants to support activities.
Represents CEE and UMass Extension at the campus, regional, state, and national levels in routine matters of organization and procedure relating to work activities.
Co-supervises one student worker each semester and assists in their training.
Works closely with CEE and UMass Extension staff to implement programs and establish collaborations to foster adaptation to climate change.

Other Functions

Energy Specialist

The Cenergistic Energy Specialist serves as the “face” of Cenergistic’s energy conservation program and works to establish accountability for energy consumption. This person is responsible for developing and driving the organization’s energy conservation program.

Summary
The Cenergistic Energy Specialist’s two primary duties will be to spend time identifying savings opportunities and working with the organization’s personnel executing implementation strategies. To ensure overall program accountability and positive results, the Cenergistic Energy Specialist will use a combination of technology and software to manage and analyze utility bill data and energy consumption information related to energy use in the organization’s facilities and areas.

Zero Waste Coordinator

The Office of Sustainability is committed to building a healthy, efficient, and inclusive university community. Housed within the University Resilience team inside the Division of Safety and Operations, the Office of Sustainability engaged university partners and community members in pursuit of a greener institution, improving the social and environmental impact of the business practices of the university.

Reporting to the Director, Office of Sustainability, the Zero Waste Coordinator oversees the strategies and practices that will enable the university to achieve its landfill diversion ambitions. This includes leading a team and projects that contribute to conscious procurement, responsible resource use, materials reuse and recycling, repair and repurposing activities, composting, and other related measures. Along with the Director and other sustainability team members, this position works closely with partners across the university and in the community.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Setting goals and priorities in support of the university’s zero waste commitment and developing and implementing supporting strategies.
Managing and assigning tasks to a zero-waste team, which may include full-time staff, part-time staff, student employees, and contractors.
Overseeing the efficient management of all waste streams and waste-related vendor contracts, including municipal solid waste, single-stream recycling, electronics recycling, organics composting, cardboard textile and furniture donations, secure document shredding, and scrap metal recycling.
Providing guidance, direction, and training to collaborators involved in zero waste actions across the Division of Safety and Operations and across the university.
Continuously analyzing waste collection data to drive decision-making processes, identify inefficiencies, and develop strategies for operational improvements and contract adjustments as needed.
Leading stakeholder meetings to track progress and address issues and collaborate with custodial, grounds, dining, transportation, and contractor colleagues as needed to accomplish zero waste goals.
Overseeing waste infrastructure maintenance and ensuring compliance with GW design standards and specifications.
Serving as a technical resource when issues arise regarding waste reduction, collection, and disposal across all divisions at the university.
Ensuring the university’s compliance with local waste management regulations and providing timely registration and accurate reporting of solid waste diversion data to relevant District of Columbia agencies.

DEP’s water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

The Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) currently has a portfolio of capital projects valued at $23.8B, and another $10.5B projected over the next 10-year commitment plan. The projects BEDC implements allows DEP as a whole to continue to operate and maintain an exemplary water supply system.

BEDC’s In-House Design (IHD) Directorate consists of two divisions. The Design Services Division consists of seven engineering sections corresponding to the respective engineering functions they perform. This includes the Architectural, Site Civil, Structural, Process Mechanical/HVAC, Water Tunnel Mechanical Systems, and Electrical sections. Each engineering section prepares design and construction documents including engineering plans and specifications for the construction of water supply, sewer, and wastewater treatment infrastructure, which are of the highest priority for the Agency. In addition, provides design services during construction. The second unit, Engineering Services Division, includes the Quality Assurance, Laboratory Services, BIM/CADD, Standards and Sustainability Sections. This unit focuses on the format of contract documents, standard operating procedures and quality reviews and inspections. Both IHD divisions support DEP operating bureaus’ capital construction requirements in a manner consistent with BEDC’s core values of safety, schedule, quality, and customer service.

The sustainability program ensures sustainable infrastructure investments by monitoring regulatory changes, tracking project key performance indicators and provides support services to Engineering project teams. PlaNYC has set social, economic, and environmental objectives to ensure the sustainable future of New York, while preparing for climate change and reducing our impacts. Advancing sustainability goals will include a mix of data analysis, conducting workshops and presentations, and coordinating with internal and external entities. In addition, the program facilitates LEED and Envision project certifications. This position requires work with a variety of project stakeholders including engineers, architects, operators, community boards and urban planners where excellent communication and client service skills are required.

BEDC is seeking to hire a Sustainability Analyst to support the sustainability program. Reporting directly to the Sustainability Lead, the Sustainability Analyst will ensure consistency in design deliverables across all capital programs in order to support DEP operating bureaus’ capital construction requirements in a manner consistent with BEDC’s Core values.

The Sustainability Analyst assists the sustainability program which implements City-wide sustainability objectives through the development of Bureau specific standards. BEDC delivers drinking water, wastewater treatment and combined sewer overflow infrastructure projects which must meet sustainable objectives by balancing three core elements: social impacts, environmental impacts and economic impacts. The Sustainability Analyst ensures sustainable infrastructure investments by monitoring regulatory changes, tracking project key performance indicators and also provides support services to Engineering project teams by providing support services. Advancing sustainability goals will include a mix of data analysis, conducting workshops and presentations, and coordinating with internal and external entities. This position requires work with a variety of project stakeholders including engineers, architects, operators, community boards and urban planners where excellent communication and client service skills are required. This position requires regular field work associated with geological material.

Excellent communication and coordination skills are required as the position works with Intra-Agency groups, other City Agencies, and key program stakeholders. The Sustainability Analyst reports directly to the Sustainability Lead.

Minimum Qualifications:
A. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in geology, engineering, earth sciences, environmental sciences, or a closely related field, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in any of the following areas: rock and soil mechanics; structural geology; soils; sedimentation; petrology; hydrology; hydrogeology; geomorphology; subsurface explorations; mining; engineering; mapping; surveying; site investigations; geologic field work; or closely related areas; and

B. At least one course involving geologic field work or three months of satisfactory, full-time professional geologic field experience obtained during the course of, or after completing, the baccalaureate education.

A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York is required. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of employment.

Environmental Sustainability Director

In this role, you will play a key role in advancing Vizient’s external Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Services to clients, suppliers, and all stakeholders. You will work cross-functionally to lead Environmental Sustainability services and solutions including strategy development, operations and the delivery, implementation, and client success of Vizient’s climate performance solutions offerings.

Responsibilities:

• Develop a strategic approach to Environmental Sustainability services and solutions, direct Environmental Sustainability operations and lead the implementation of services and insights across Vizient’s clients and supplier base.
• Lead the operations for Climate Performance Solutions, a comprehensive approach to integrate sustainable practices including conducting greenhouse gas assessments and accelerating climate performance management
• Serve as the expert within Environmental Sustainability for clients, suppliers, Vizient spend management delivery team, and other internal and external stakeholders.
• Partner with Vizient clients and suppliers to increase engagement and expand Environmental Sustainability initiatives
• Partner with cross functional teams to ensure alignment for market competitiveness across Impact Spend services and technology offerings.

• Partner with Marketing to produce strategic approaches for clients and suppliers that align with overall Impact Spend marketing strategy.

Qualifications:

• Relevant degree preferred. Degree or certification in sustainability preferred.

• Deep understanding of sustainability practices within the healthcare industry, particularly in supply chain management, with knowledge of carbon accounting, ESG standards, and GHG assessments highly preferred.
• Experience developing and leading sustainability services, solutions, and operational strategies to drive climate performance management.

Director of Sustainability and Environmental Action

Bryn Mawr College has an opening for a Director of Sustainability and Environmental Action.

THE POSITION

The Director of Sustainability and Environmental Action leads environmental efforts at Bryn Mawr College by envisioning, building, implementing, and managing sustainable development in support of environmental action and justice on campus. The Director will develop and advance initiatives, act as a liaison and leader for students, faculty, and staff, foster and manage collaborations with local stakeholders, and will be responsible for internal and external environmental data reporting.

This position reports directly to the VP of Finance and Administration with a dotted line to the Chief of Staff and works alongside the Director of Facilities and faculty leaders. The role will work closely with key partners on campus like the Civic Engagement Office, Transportation Services, Dining Services, Facilities, Library and Information Technology Services, and faculty, students, and staff to ensure sustainability initiatives are incorporated into daily operations, planning, construction, student life, and curricula. As a sustainability liaison for the college, the Director fosters collaboration with off-campus stakeholders to manage and lead sustainability goals as they engage our changing ecosystems and environments in conversation with our regional neighbors, surrounding communities, and Tri-Co partners. The Director will be a strategist with entrepreneurial experience who will lead our sustainability program through innovation with an explicit goal of long-term and sustained carbon neutrality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and execute an environmental action and sustainability strategy rooted in sustainable energy usage, land stewardship, sustainable operations and practices, and curricular innovation.
Develop collaborative partnerships with internal partners and local organizations.
Provide training and guidance to the College community regarding key sustainability issues like waste disposal, energy usage, and sustainable usage pathways. Develop events such as community freecycle events, single-use plastics and e-waste disposal, RecycleMania, and Energy Action Week.
Track metrics, report to Second Nature, complete the AASHE STARS report, and create an Environmental Dashboard for the College.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree, or equivalent work experience preferred, in a relevant field, such as Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Sustainability Management, Energy Systems, Ecology, Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, or Public Policy, or related social science/environmental degree.
