The primary goal of this position is to manage all sustainability and environmental issues that relate to Cooper Farms and its operations. Promote continuous improvement regarding environmental management practices.

Job Functions:

Develop a comprehensive environmental program for Cooper Farms that includes a complete protocol for the ongoing management of all environmental issues related to all operations.
Assist in all decisions that relate to managing any environmental practices or permits that may be needed at any time. Be involved in media contacts to enhance and protect the environmental image of Cooper Farms.
Maintain relationships with personnel at government agencies at all levels to enhance response time in dealing with environmental issues and concerns.

Complete sampling, testing, and reporting for all facilities that produce or may produce materials that may become environmental hazards, perceived or real.
Lead sustainability initiatives for the company, including creating programs, collecting data, and coordinating communication of the programs.
Be a technical advisor for all contract producers to help them manage their operations environmentally within the normal expectations of regulatory agencies.
Communicate regularly with management staff to share environmental information and to become aware of concerns others in the company may have to deal with.
Determine and keep records needed to log and manage anything related to effectively tracking issues that have to do with the company’s environmental welfare.
Attend necessary training conferences to stay current regarding environmental practices and issues and share important topics with fellow managers.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or 5 years’ experience in environmental science.
Must have broad knowledge regarding environmental issues, especially as they relate to animal agriculture and related food production.
This position requires a high level of self-motivation, organization, attention to detail, accuracy, timely and effective communication, and reliable follow-through.
Candidates should be proficient with Microsoft Office programs, and willing to become well-versed in Cooper Farms environmental operations.
Must have the ability to build trust and relationships at all levels of the organization.

Public Works Administrator – Sustainability

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provide administrative support to Director of Public Works for presentations, budget analysis, program implementation, as well as analyze data from various software programs to help the department move toward efficiency in fleet management and service to the public. Responsible for providing administrative support in the coordination, facilitation, development, implementation, monitoring, and improvement of local government programs and initiatives that promote local environmental and energy sustainability. Communicate, educate and train the public and other city agencies on measures to reduce waste by promoting the City’s recycling, composting and waste reduction programs. Assist with other City Departments, Boards and Committees in improving or amending solid waste plans and strategies.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

· Assist in defining goals, performance metrics, and a strategic plan for environmental sustainability and programs.

· Assist with planning of City sustainability initiatives and programs.

· Develops special events and programs to promote and educate the public about resource conservation and environmental sustainability; guides the preparation of educational and promotional materials.

· Create initiatives within the City that reduce environmental damage.

· Facilitate collaboration of interdepartmental teams and working groups on sustainability initiatives and programs.

· Report on measuring and monitoring of sustainability initiatives.

· Promote and communicate sustainability initiatives with City employees.

· Maintain the department’s social media pages by keeping them frequently updated with current and future public works projects and activities.

EDUCATION AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s Degree (Highly preferred)

Sustainability Coordinator

Join the City of Santa Rosa as a Sustainability Coordinator in the Santa Rosa Water Department as part of the Water Resources Division!

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The current Sustainability Coordinator vacancy in the Energy and Sustainability Section is responsible for overseeing a team that is focused on various climate resiliency, energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives for Santa Rosa Water’s operations. The Energy and Sustainability Section also facilitates a variety of ratepayer and community engagement activities focused on Santa Rosa Water’s existing mission to protect public health by sustaining water resources, infrastructure, and the environment. This includes overseeing staff who manage internal and public-facing tours of the Laguna Treatment Plant. The position is expected to be able to be able to analyze energy use and greenhouse gas emission patterns for the water department’s operations; develop plans, and identify energy efficiency measures for implementation to achieve regulatory targets and city-wide goals; prepare information and various reports including those required by regulation; develop and oversee various professional service contracts and grant awards; generate relevant studies and make presentations to the public as well as the Board of Public Utilities. The position also implements special projects and initiatives related to climate change resiliency, resource management, and sustainability.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:
The successful candidate will have: experience implementing and analyzing energy and resource efficiency programs;, knowledge of current regulation and legislation related to energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions; a proficient understanding of the water/energy nexus and emerging technologies within this sector (or a strong willingness to learn); effective project management skills; will be detail oriented and possess strong writing outstanding communication and presenting skills, and superior customer service skills. Additionally, the successful candidate will have experience supervising, coaching and mentoring staff as well as the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work together to develop regional collaborations.

Investigate and develop methods to reduce City’s flow to the wastewater treatment plant

Energy:

Direct long-range planning, development, and implementation of SRW policies, projects and programs that optimize energy use, increase the use of renewable energy, improve resource management, reduce GHG emissions, achieve climate action and adaptation goals, and enhance green procurement strategies;
Investigate and develop methods to reduce SRW’s energy consumption and GHG emissions;
Oversee management and analysis of energy accounts;
Assure SRW participates in available utility company incentives and rebate programs for projects and track incentives and rebates received;
Complete and submit various annual and bi-annual energy reports on behalf of SRW and the Laguna Treatment Plant.

Experience and Education: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience – Sufficient years of responsible experience in water/energy supply, renewable energy or water/energy-use efficiency program work, including supervisory experience, to demonstrate possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above; Education – Equivalent to a BS or BA degree from an accredited college with major course work in public or business administration, public relations, communications, environmental engineering, environmental studies, landscaping, water supply, renewable energy or closely related field. An AA or AS degree in environmental studies, landscaping, or water supply can be qualifying if it is supplemented by additional experience in water conservation work.

License or Certification:

Individuals must be physically capable of operating a motor vehicle safely and possess a valid, Class C, California Driver License, OR be able to demonstrate the ability to travel on scheduled or unscheduled visits to various locations in the City which may or may not be reachable by public transportation.

Water Use Efficiency: Certification from American Water Works Association as a Water Conservation Practitioner and licensing from the Irrigation Association or Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper as a Water Auditor are desired.

Climate Solutions Intern

Climate Solutions Interns are undergraduate students based in NYC who are interested in finding where they fit in the global fight against climate change. Interns will be trained to understand the climate crisis and join the Wildlife Conservation Society in its goal of extending climate education and action into NYC neighborhoods. With resources and guidance from mentors, interns will select a social research question of their choice and use their findings to synthesize a formal plan for how their communities can adapt to a climate-related phenomenon. Interns do not need previous experience with science, but should have an interest and willingness to learn.

Assistant Professor, Urban Sustainability

The Department of Geography, Environment, and Sustainability at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of Urban Sustainability to begin August 1, 2025. We seek a dynamic scholar-teacher to help us build on existing departmental strengths, especially in sustainability, urban planning, and GIScience. We are particularly interested in candidates with high potential to develop an externally funded research program and mentor undergraduate and graduate students at the intersection of the following areas: sustainable urban planning, sustainability, environmental geography, and environmental studies. Examples of potential topical expertise include environmental and climate justice, sustainable/low-carbon urban development, housing and community development, inequality and planning, and sustainability science. It is expected that the candidate will teach courses in these areas as well as general education courses in one or more of environment and sustainability, human geography, resource geography, or physical geography. Strong skills and experience using geographic information systems (GIS) in research is highly desirable, but not mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must hold or anticipate a Ph.D. in Geography, Sustainability, Urban Planning, Environmental Studies or an allied field by August 1, 2025.

Natural Resources Technician

The Natural Resources Technician/ Stormwater Facility Technician plays a crucial role in safeguarding environmental quality within the City of Salem. This position is responsible for conducting comprehensive inspections of stormwater management facilities, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. By systematically evaluating the condition and performance of stormwater systems, the inspector helps prevent pollution, reduce flooding risks, and enhance water quality in local waterways.

What you will do:
The Natural Resources Technician position performs seasonal work in collecting, analyzing, and inspecting technical information associated with urban natural resources, and providing support to the stormwater quality programs related to operations and maintenance, outreach, natural areas, stream cleaning, and environmental monitoring programs.

This Natural Resource Technician position will assist the stormwater inspections technicians with both field and office work. Field work will consist of performing inspections of public and private mechanical and vegetated water quality treatment facilities. Upon completion of training, the Natural Resource Technician will inspect facilities and perform field investigations independently. Office work will consist of organizing inspection information including locating, gathering, and organizing plans and as-builts, maintenance agreements, and more information associated with the facility inspection and maintenance. There may be opportunity to provide outreach to private stormwater facilities owners.

Lifting heavy objects with mechanical assistance is a common task of the job.

Energy Efficiency Senior Program Manager

TRC is seeking a Senior Program Manager to serve as part of the California residential electrification program leadership team. The Senior Program Manager will work with the program leadership team to develop initial program designs, advise on and support program contract negotiations, contribute to portfolio business development efforts, and manage statewide program implementation.

This role will also manage and lead our innovative statewide residential electrification program. This program lies within a portfolio of residential programs and will have the support of our cross-functional operations, technical, IT, and management team. Clean Energy Advocate

Environment Georgia is seeking a Clean Energy Advocate to play a key role in Environment Georgia’s work to stop air and water pollution and transition our state to 100% clean and renewable energy and transportation.

Georgia has made progress in recent years: three of Georgia’s largest cities have committed to 100% clean energy transitions and Georgia ranks 7th in the country for installed solar capacity. But, it’s still harder than it should be to install rooftop solar, switch to an electric car, or make your home more energy efficient. We’re working to build support for clean energy solutions across the state.
Key Responsibilities
As our Clean Energy Advocate, you’ll work with Environment Georgia’s state director and our national clean energy program team at Environment America to advance policies and build public support for a clean energy future. This position requires exercising discretion and independent judgment in making decisions in matters of significance. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Campaign strategy: Develop plans to win on our campaigns. Assess opportunities for building political support for our agenda through coalition-building, grassroots organizing, media coverage, and message development.
Direct Advocacy: Bring environmental problems and solutions to the attention of decision-makers – including federal, state and local officials with influence in Georgia. Develop appropriate messages and materials for making the case for our policy solutions to decision-makers.

Sustainability Manager

Coastal Waste & Recycling is growing a privately owned, locally operated solid waste disposal and recycling company headquartered out of Boca Raton, Florida serving communities across Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina (and more to come)!

Your Role:

The Sustainability Manager is responsible for developing and implementing sustainability strategies to enhance environmental performance within the waste and recycling sector. This role involves collaborating with various departments to promote sustainable practices and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Lead the development, execution, and tracking of the organization’s sustainability strategy and initiatives, including its net zero plan.
Work cross-functionally to ensure the integration of sustainability practices into core business operations.
Monitor and assess progress toward sustainability goals and identify areas for improvement.
Manage the company’s ESG reporting efforts, ensuring accurate and timely submission of reports in compliance with various industry standards, including GRESB.
Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of sustainability data, ensuring its accuracy and alignment with best practices.
Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to environmental impact, energy use, carbon emissions, and other sustainability metrics.
Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to gather and analyze data related to ESG performance.
Partner with fund managers and other stakeholders to align sustainability objectives with investment portfolios.
Provide guidance and support on the integration of sustainability and ESG metrics into investment decision-making processes.
Identify and support opportunities for sustainability-related grants, incentives, and funding programs.
Assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications for sustainability projects and initiatives.
Manage and track the progress of funded projects to ensure successful execution.
Act as the key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding sustainability matters.
Prepare presentations, reports, and communication materials to share sustainability progress with senior leadership, investors, and external partners.
Stay current with emerging sustainability trends, regulations, and technologies.
Proactively identify opportunities for the organization to improve its sustainability performance and reduce environmental impact.

Qualifications

Research Associate

The Virginia Household Water Quality Program (VAHWQP) is a Virginia Cooperative Extension program that is operated through the Biological Systems Engineering (BSE) department. VAHWQP provides confidential water testing and educates private water supply users (clientele) through drinking water clinics. Faculty in BSE, working with local VAHWQP-trained Virginia Cooperative Extension agents, coordinate drinking water clinics in at least 60 counties per year. The position described herein creates value by providing logistical and analytical support for VAHWQP and is critical to the day-to-day operation of VAHWQP.

Required Qualifications: Masters degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biology or similar field or an exception can be made for a BS in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biology or similar field with significant analytical laboratory experience. Experience with standard laboratory data QA/QC protocols and data management. Evidence of effective communication and teamwork skills. Demonstrated expertise with using applicable computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Visual Basic for Applications, and ESRI ArcGIS). Ability to coordinate lab sample chain of custody and travel logistics. Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record. To excel, the person in this position should be detail-oriented and willing to develop and share creative solutions to problems with VAHWQP clinic logistics and data management.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with ion chromatography and microbiological assessment techniques. Evidence of the application of good laboratory practices. Experience with instrument troubleshooting and maintenance. Experience with innovative database management and manipulation, specifically using Microsoft Access to store, compile and query data for the purpose of generating individual sample result reports and report interpretation material. Experience with using GIS software to analyze spatially disparate data to inform research and stakeholder information exchange.
