Environmental Professional

As an Environmental Professional at Rhode Island Energy you will perform environmental permitting, regulatory reporting, environmental assessments and develop pollution control programs for Company facilities and operations. Duties include performing assignments that are broad in nature and moderately difficult under minimum supervision.

Responsibilities

Reviews and analyzes existing legislation/regulations and provides input to management.

Support environmental spill response and clean-up throughout the service territory and on-call emergency storm restoration as needed. This may be a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

Supports the environmental permitting and plans necessary to support the construction and operations of sites and facilities.

Evaluate construction schedules, determine required environmental needs, and work with regulatory agencies and contractors to obtain permits and resolve permitting and plan issues necessary to support the construction and operation of sites and facilities.

Assists with assessment reports and data compiled by contractors, consultants, governmental agencies, and others to determine environmental impact on Company.

Provides technical training as necessary in support of environmental regulations and Company procedures.

Assists other environmental staff with large and/or complex projects, as required.

Assist with interface between various regulatory agencies’ staff and the Company and provide information for expert testimony, as needed, for hearings involving environmental legislation and regulatory actions.

Monitor and audit project crews and construction contractors to ensure compliance with environmental permitting and plans, proper characterization and disposal of waste material, and inspections of installed Best Management Practices (BMPs) as needed.

Associate Energy Engineer

The Associate Energy Engineer, Planning and Facilities Management / Office of Engineering and Utilities provides engineering guidance and support for campus engineering projects and energy efficiency initiatives to meet Georgetown University’s 2031 EUI Reduction target and Building Energy Performance Standards targets mandated by D.C. law. The position is focused on controls and provides technical and engineering oversight to establish maintenance and operational requirements for controls, mechanical equipment, and facilities. The position develops engineering solutions to address identified issues and to reduce building energy usage and carbon footprint. The position shall provide consulting and project leadership services in energy efficiency, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems. The position will develop and document control strategies for optimizing mechanical systems performance, prepare specifications, manage projects, and conduct building recommissioning. Recommending changes in control and maintenance strategies, operating procedures, and equipment schedules based on on-site investigations, duties include but are not limited to:

Support innovative building efficiency projects and perform construction controls project reviews for compliance with GU Standards (such as MSI Division 25) and incorporation of best practices for energy efficiency.

Utilize retro-commissioning, fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) to identify and implement energy conservation opportunities and correct building deficiencies.

Identify and correct deficiencies to optimize building automation system operations and enforce energy efficiency guidelines.

Train and inform maintenance staff on energy conservation initiatives.

Develop, enhance, and track preventive maintenance to support energy conservation.

Assess the performance of completed energy conservation projects to ensure they achieve performance goals.

Work Interactions

This position works with the Office of Engineering and Utilities, Capital Projects, Facilitates Operations, University Information Services, and building end-users to complete tasks. The position shall be directed by the Engineering and Utilities Leadership to complete studies, support controls project reviews, implement new processes and procedures, and investigate controls issues with the support of the engineering team. The position shall work with Facilities Maintenance as a consultative resource to solve issues and improve operations while providing lateral direction to improve energy performance within building systems and utilities, particularly on BACnet and FDD platforms. The position shall work with Capital Projects to review project plans to ensure energy efficiency measures and design standards are included in the design and commissioning. The position will also work with end-users to inform them of potential changes and resolve issues related to energy efficiency.

Sustainability Data Manager

The Corporate Environmental Sustainability team is responsible for shaping Comcast’s overall environmental sustainability strategy and working with businesses and teams across the enterprise to develop, align, operationalize, and execute on that strategy. 1 – 5 years of professional experience (including internships) in Sustainability Consulting
LEED AP with Specialty (BD+C or ID+C preferred)
WELL AP
Basic understanding of material transparency frameworks and life cycle assessment
Technical understanding and analysis of data from software relevant to sustainability such as embodied carbon, simple box energy analysis, daylight modeling, solar feasibility and resource efficiency optimization
Communication skills including interpersonal, presentation, and public speaking
Strong organizational and collaborative skills to adapt to multiple team and client working styles
Proficient in MS Office with strength in Excel
Maintains a high level of collaboration, engagement & enthusiasm

Recommended Qualifications

Certification Experience: Fitwel, Living Building Challenge, LEED EBOM, ParkSmart, PEER, Energy Star, ACLCA
Basic proficiency with Revit
Knowledgeable in latest version of Building Codes, ASHRAE Standards and sustainability reference standards
Knowledge on ESG Reporting Frameworks
Understanding of industry commitments to carbon reduction (AIA 2030, SE2050)
Confidence in facilitating strategic conversations
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
