Sustainability Engineer

Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Energy, we are seeking a Sustainability Engineer who will lead and execute an effort to prioritize and implement programs, strategies, and projects focused on reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gases in accordance with the University’s climate change initiative. The Sustainability Engineer supports the Homewood campus and collaborates with JHFRE departmental staff, including facility operations, facility engineers, project managers, sustainability staff, and other relevant departmental personnel. The Homewood campus includes facilities and utility infrastructure spanning over 5 million square feet. The Homewood Campus is home to University Administration, University Student Services, the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, the Whiting School of Engineering, and the School of Education.

Based on the identification of energy conservation measures (ECMs), feasibility studies, and financial analyses, the Sustainability Engineer will recommend projects for advancement to implementation. Additionally, the Sustainability Engineer performs ongoing technical analyses of existing building envelope, mechanical, and electrical systems to ensure proper functionality and performance in accordance with the original design intent. This role promotes operating performance and energy characteristics that are consistent with the latest energy codes and operational best management practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a related engineering field.
Five years of experience with major building mechanical and electrical systems, preferably with HVAC, building automation (BAS), and energy management systems (EMS).
Strong background in both design and field experience with major building mechanical systems, including laboratory spaces.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree.
Experience in an electrification transition of a building or campus.
Experience in commissioning HVAC systems that utilize GSHP, ASHP, or WSHP and/or BAS systems initiatives.
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and LEED AP (USGBC).
Professional Engineer License in the State of Maryland or a state with reciprocity.

Starting Salary Range: $85,500 – $149,800 Annually (Commensurate w/exp.)

Assistant Renewable Energy Technician

The primary responsibilities of an Assistant Renewable Energy Technician are a full range of duties associated with the operations and maintenance of Dominion Energy’s renewable energy and battery storage facilities, both energized and deenergized. An Assistant Renewable Energy Technician will develop skills to prepare themselves for potential advancement in Renewable Operations and Maintenance. The majority of work will be performed outside in all types of weather conditions. The position requires strong electrical and mechanical aptitude and interest.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

0-3 years of experience working in the renewable energy field or 0-3 years of experience working in the commercial or industrial electrical or I&C fields with familiarity of solar renewables

Sustainability and Resilience Officer

The Energy Conservation and Management Division (ECAM) within the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department leads the state’s charge toward clean energy adoption. ECAM is committed to developing and deploying solutions that will maximize New Mexico’s renewable energy resources and improve energy efficiency and transportation standards. ECAM is the U.S. Department of Energy’s designated State Energy Office. The Climate Policy Bureau leads interagency coordination to achieve New Mexico’s climate goals outlined in Executive Order 2019-003 on Climate Change and Waste Prevention, including coordinating the Interagency Climate Change Task Force, the State Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan, and the State Climate Action Plan.
Why does the job exist?
This position supports the Energy Conservation and Management Division’s Climate Policy Bureau by coordinating government-wide planning to meet the goals of the Governor’s Executive Order 2019-003 on Climate Change and Waste Prevention to meet greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals, evaluate the impacts of climate change on programs and operations, and integrate climate change mitigation and adaptation practices into programs and /or operations across state agencies. This position has both internally and externally facing duties.
How does it get done?
Developing, implementing, and providing project management support for statewide plans to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience to climate hazards:
– Support the development and implementation of the State Climate Action Plan.
– Support the update and implementation of the State Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan.

Collaborating with state and federal agencies, local and tribal governments, and other external stakeholders
to advance climate action:
– Facilitate engagement with state and federal agencies that manage land, natural resources, infrastructure,
and other relevant activities to advance climate priorities.
– Engage and support state agency staff to implement actions in state climate plans and facilitate
communication, consistency and connection among agency planning efforts.
– Facilitate regular engagement with local and Tribal governments as well as environmental and climate
justice advocacy groups to keep them informed about state climate action and support their priorities and
work and advance state climate priorities.

Supporting contract and grant management and issuing requests for proposals
– Develop and issue requests for proposals to select contractors to assist with the development of strategies,
policies and implementation plans.
– Manage reporting for contracts and grants, and track contractor deliverables.

Sustainability and Resilience Specialist

The Town of Groton, Connecticut seeks a Sustainability and Resilience Specialist to assist in the development and implementation of the Town’s Climate Action Plan and other greenhouse gas emission reduction strategies, flooding and hazard plans, and climate and resilience projects. This position supports activities that have a direct and positive effect on town-wide sustainability and resilience efforts, including proposing and managing projects and grants, and conducting community outreach and engagement. This is a non-union, non-exempt, full-time position.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the direction of the Sustainability and Resilience Manager, this position provides professional level support in the creation of plans, policies and strategies around the topics of climate change, sea level rise, energy efficiency, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The position assists with the development of criteria, policies, and procedures for sustainability programs, reviews, maintains, and updates data related to the Town’s energy use and associated emissions, tracks performance, and provides periodic reports on results and opportunities for improvement.

Assists in the development of proposals for federal, state and private funding opportunities and their associated project scopes of work and budgets. Ability to work with town staff and leadership, partner with departments as appropriate, provide education and outreach to the public, business community, and local youth around sustainability principles. Must be available to periodically attend Board, Commission, Town Council, and Representative Town Meeting (RTM) meetings and represent the Town and participate in professional group meetings at various regional and state organizations. Assists the Sustainability and Resilience Manager in development of the Town’s internet and social media presence.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and knowledge would be acquired with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Policy, Sustainability, Resiliency, Environmental Management, Environmental Studies, or a relevant or comparable degree. Master’s Degree in above mentioned fields may be substituted for experience, at the ratio of one year of education to one year of experience. A minimum of two year related professional experience including development and implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy programs is preferred. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience requirements.

Knowledge and experience in environmental management, climate change, resilience, energy efficiency, renewable energy and environmental sustainability principles. Understanding of mechanical assets found within Town departments desired. Effective verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail and initiative are required. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, assume responsibility, prioritize and resolve problems, work under pressure, and coordinate and manage complex projects.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships with business contacts, the general public, boards, consultants and with employees at all levels of the organization. Ability to research, analyze and synthesize complex information, develop and present recommendations and prepare concise written reports, correspondence and recommendations. Experience in research, policy development, and report writing is preferred. Ability and willingness to attend evening meetings. The ideal candidate will bring experience in energy benchmarking utilizing Portfolio Manager and commercial building energy efficiency program implementation.
