Founded in 2018, the Clean Energy Transition Institute (CETI) is an independent, nonpartisan research and analysis nonprofit organization working to accelerate an equitable clean energy transition in the Northwest. Our mission is to decarbonize the Northwest economy equitably at the speed and scale that climate science requires.

CETI provides independent, unbiased research and analytics on low-carbon pathways tailored to the Northwest region’s unique characteristics; offers an information clearinghouse for decarbonization solutions and technologies; and convenes stakeholders to debate the trade-offs inherent in shifting to a clean energy economy.

About this Position

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Deputy Director will be responsible for overseeing CETI’s programs, working in concert with the Executive Director to determine the research projects and contracts that CETI undertakes. The Deputy Director will oversee CETI’s Research Analysts and all reports and deliverables that CETI commits to. The Deputy Director will respond to requests for proposals on CETI’s behalf and manage service contracts that CETI wins, including all billing and invoicing for work performed.

The Ideal Candidate

We seek a seasoned manager of complex research and analysis entities with excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience producing high-quality, rigorous technical and economic reports, research, and analysis. Successful candidates will be capable of synthesizing and presenting complex data and information in an accessible manner, while also able to manage and mentor a team of Research Analysts.

The ideal candidate is committed to a rapid and equitable clean energy transition in the Northwest. They must be a self-starter; highly organized with excellent analytical skills; have a keen attention to detail; have knowledge about equitable clean energy solutions and policy and environmental justice considerations for building a clean energy economy; and capable of understanding and communicating the complexity of the clean energy transition.

CETI is in its seventh year and expanding rapidly, so a successful Deputy Director will be flexible, resourceful, and able to help the Executive Director grow CETI’s programs.

Director – Sustainability

Under the guidance of the Senior Executive Director of the Rist Institute for Sustainability and Energy, the Director of Sustainability will play a critical role in advancing UMass Lowell’s leadership in sustainability. This position is responsible for fostering external partnerships and securing grant funding to drive impactful sustainability initiatives both on campus and within the broader community.

The Director will lead efforts to engage external partners—including state agencies, industry collaborators, and nonprofit organizations—in sustainability projects that align with the University’s strategic priorities. Key external partners include MassCEC, MassEEA, MassEOED, and MassDOT, among others. Success in building and maintaining these partnerships, as well as identifying and securing grants to support sustainability programs, is essential to this role.

Primary Responsibilities:

External Partnerships & Collaboration: Serve as a key contact for external partners interested in collaborating with UMass Lowell on sustainability initiatives. Cultivate and manage relationships with government agencies, industry partners, and community organizations to expand the university’s sustainability impact.
Grant Writing & Fund Development: Lead efforts to secure external funding through grants and contracts. Develop proposals and collaborate with faculty, staff, and partners to identify funding opportunities that support sustainability programs and research.
Community & Campus Engagement: Coordinate sustainability-related engagement initiatives that connect students, faculty, and external partners. Plan and execute community outreach efforts that create new opportunities for faculty research, experiential learning, and student work placements in sustainability fields.
Rist Institute Support: Support the ongoing efforts of the Rist Institute for Sustainability and Energy by advancing the goals of key university initiatives, including the Climate Change Initiative and the Center for Energy Innovation.
Sustainability Reporting & Compliance: Oversee core sustainability reporting requirements such as AASHE STARS, UMass System Annual Reporting, and compliance with state regulations, including those from MassDEP and MassDOER. Familiarity with asset management and surplus operations is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Degree in planning, business, environmental sciences, sustainability, or a related field (Associate, Bachelor, or Master’s).
Minimum seven years (Associate’s), five years (Bachelor’s), or 2-3 years (Master’s) of experience in related field, with a strong emphasis on building external partnerships and securing grant funding.
Proven experience in writing and submitting grant proposals to competitive external funding programs.
Strong understanding of sustainability principles and associated data and metrics, with experience in sustainability reporting (e.g., LEED, STARS, carbon reporting).
Demonstrated ability to cultivate and manage partnerships with government agencies, industry collaborators, and external organizations.
Excellent communication skills, with an ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including university faculty, students, and external partners.

Sustainability Consultant

Säzän Consulting Services (SCS) Team is seeking a dynamic, experienced, multi-tasking thought leader to join our multi-disciplinary team as a Senior Sustainability Consultant.

General Responsibilities

• Lead sustainability consulting services for complex projects from planning through post-occupancy. Many projects are pursuing a variety of green building certifications such as Evergreen Standard, LEED, Green Globes, WELL, ZNE and the Living Building Challenge.
• Many clients, while not pursuing any sustainability protocol certification, are still interested in “doing the right thing.” Such clients require a unique, customized approach to establishing performance criteria relative to minimizing ecological impacts and optimizing systems performance and building occupant health, safety, and comfort.

About the Role:

The Sustainability Lead will assess environmental footprints, including energy usage and emissions, and develop strategies for conservation, renewable resource use, efficiency improvement, and cost reduction. They will interpret external sustainability changes, analyze their impact on Tate’s products and customers, and stay updated on building regulations and policies. This role involves conducting carbon assessments, educating divisional teams, and proposing initiatives such as facility design changes and energy programs. Agility, adaptability, and effective communication across business functions are essential.

What You’ll Do:

Develop and evaluate strategies to support conservation, increase usage of renewable resources, improve efficiency, and reduce energy costs or wasteful output.
Undertaking carbon assessments for our key product range using life cycle assessments
Work closely with the sustainability team across the division to understand our product range and identify opportunities to improve environmental performance.

Assess the environmental footprint, including energy usage and gas, water, or other waste emissions.

Climate Change & Sustainability Specialist

ICF is at the forefront of preparing leading-edge analyses, identifying viable market solutions, building real-world management tools, and implementing programs to account for and manage carbon emissions, and decarbonize our economy. Our team works with all levels of government, multilateral institutions and commercial clients to develop emissions inventories and carbon footprints; conduct greenhouse gas mitigation policy analyses; implement climate-related policies and programs; develop climate action plans and sustainability strategies; and support organizational sustainability.

We are seeking a Decarbonization Specialist who will be responsible for supporting ICF managers on projects related to GHG inventories and reductions and decarbonization and sustainability planning. Projects will range from technical, data-driven analyses to writing reports for general audiences to supporting external workshops and communication activities. You will be an essential member of 2- to 7-person project teams that will depend on you to help create accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services. You are likely to work on multiple projects, interact with all levels of staff, and have some client interaction. Sustainability-Focused Instructional Support Faculty

The Sustainability-Focused Instructional Support Faculty has a 12-month, limited, provisional faculty contract. This is a one-year, grant-funded position with the potential of renewal for a second year. Reporting to the Department Chair for Skilled Trades, this faculty member will provide support to three offices within the Academic Success Division: The Office of Career & Technical Education (CTE), the Office of Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (STEM), and the Office of Workforce Development & Industry Relations. The primary focus of this role will be to integrate sustainability principles into various instructional programs and initiatives across these offices, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and innovation.

Assistant Professor of Environment & Sustainability

The Environment & Sustainability Program at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will have a joint appointment in the Environment & Sustainability Program and a department within the social sciences. Appointment will begin August 10, 2025. We are interested in individuals with research expertise in the social scientific dimensions of climate change, broadly construed.
Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body.
Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. Successful applicants must possess the skills to
regularly teach the core environmental policy making course in the Environment & Sustainability Program and teach compelling courses on the social dimensions of climate change that complement and extend the program’s curriculum.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a discipline that explores the social scientific dimensions of climate change, such as anthropology, economics, environmental studies, political science, or sociology at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2025).

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research is preferred. Evidence of scholarly achievement or demonstrated potential as a scholar.

Assistant Professor, Sustainability of Natural Resources

The Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology invites applications for a tenure track, nine-month Assistant Professor faculty position specializing in sustainability of natural resources, broadly defined. The incumbent must demonstrate interest or expertise in excellent mentoring of graduate or undergraduate students from at-risk, first-generation or underserved communities in innovated scholarship to advance the sustainable use and management of natural resources (e.g., pulp and timber, biodiversity, hunting and gathering by indigenous peoples, recreation, water). We seek a candidate with interest in collaborating across disciplines, securing extramural funding, partnering with tribal/state/federal natural resource agencies, and achieving national and international scholarly prominence.

The successful candidate should have a background in the sustainable use and management of natural resources, for example with a focus on integration of community concerns (e.g. Traditional indigenous life ways), treaty obligations, and contemporary management. We are interested in hiring an individual that uses rigorous, state-of-the-art, disciplinary tools to address the ecological, economic, and cultural issues of sustainability of natural resources to address critical and timely issues such as forest resilience in the face of the urgency of climate change, human influences, integration of traditional ecological knowledge, and environmental justice. The focus of this position is on field-based measurements, but expertise in advanced quantitative methods or data-model linkages are encouraged.
