Program Manager – EV Market Development

The Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) is seeking a highly motivated Program Manager to support the Local Initiatives team in achieving aggressive goals to increase the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) and EV charging. The Program Manager will work with partners to recruit communities and provide technical assistance to local governments pursuing designation under the U.S. Department of Energy-funded Charging Smart program. You will work as part of a small, dynamic team to help communities reduce local barriers to the adoption of EV charging. You will focus on permitting and inspection, planning and zoning, government operations, utility engagement, market development, and other federal, state, and local EV and EV charging topics. You will also work with a broad coalition of other stakeholders, demonstrating thought leadership at both the strategic and tactical levels. The Program Manager will occasionally perform other duties and support other programs as needed to meet the objectives of a small and dynamic national nonprofit organization.

Responsibilities

Support outreach efforts and work with partner organizations to recruit new communities to the Charging Smart program;

Promote the Charging Smart program by effectively communicating program benefits to stakeholders;

Assist local governments in identifying and implementing programs and practices to build robust local EV and EV charging markets; Assess local government policies to determine if they meet Charging Smart best practices;

Design and deliver presentations to local government officials;

Work with external contractors to ensure project goals and deliverables are met;

Facilitate meetings and build relationships with local government officials and their stakeholders;

Participate in internal working groups on program evaluation, outreach and recruitment strategies, criteria development, and technical assistance;

Support designation review process and utilization of Salesforce database;

Develop and refine program-related supporting documents;

Provide research, writing, and coordination support for Charging Smart and other projects at IREC;

Help ensure proper program reporting to comply with federal regulations; and

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

This is a paid internship for current students at an accredited college. The pay rate is from $16 to $19 per hour based on current class year. This internship will begin in the Fall 2024 semester and continue through Summer 2025.

Interns must be located in New York State while working. It is expected that interns will follow our telework policy, with a combination of in-office and remote work. Interns work up to 18.5 hours per week during the semester, and up to 37.5 hours per week between semesters, when not attending classes.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The intern will assist NYSERDA’s Communities and Local Development department supporting two high-priority initiatives (Clean Energy Communities (CEC) and Just Transition Site Reuse Programs) to enable and encourage increased engagement and investment in clean energy by municipalities and communities throughout New York State. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Assist with the CEC Program, such as application processing, tracking program correspondence, and administrative tasks.
Research and compile methodology on building energy efficiency improvements and energy audits.

Create reports that track Clean Energy Communities Program participation, budget, and other metrics.
Help manage contracts through the contracting lifecycle.

Environmental Sustainability Coordinator

The Environmental Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and administrative support of sustainability programs and projects. This position focuses on program implementation for Resource Stewardship goals, with a primary focus on recycling and waste reduction at large university events. Assists with the Zero Waste Stadium Program and zero waste events projects at other facilities. Serves as lead on home football games. Monitors sustainability performance by tracking waste diversion data for events. Conducts facility tours to highlight and educate on sustainability programs and processes. Works with and communicates regularly with FOD and ATH/BA units, users of ATH/BA facilities, and other relevant entities to establish and promote the sustainability of existing programs. Assists with the implementation of waste diversion programming across the university. Supervises approximately up to 5 student workers and 10 volunteers. Work may occur on nights, weekends and holidays. Perform other duties as assigned.

Director of Sustainability

The Director of Sustainability manages a portfolio of initiatives and projects in support of the University of California, Riverside Office of Sustainability which includes close coordination with the Academic Sustainability Faculty Lead. The director reports to the Vice Chancellor for Planning Budget & Administration (PB&A) and is responsible for assisting in positioning UC Riversides as a national and global higher education leader in sustainability. The director is responsible for supporting the development of a collaborative organizational model that assists the Office of Sustainability to creatively address campus sustainability priorities local, state, national, and international challenges through campus efforts. The director is a strategist that is knowledgeable in the following areas, but not limited to; academic and research infrastructure, environmental protection, economic stability, social equity, energy, climate change, water, waste, transportation, procurement, food systems, and green buildings. The incumbent provides recommendations that drive formulation and execution of organization sustainability strategy campus-wide through initiatives. The position assists to oversee sustainability management, policy, innovation, brand reputation, and program development & assessment. The director will work to foster partnerships across the academic and operational areas of the university to continue to develop UC Riverside as a living laboratory for sustainability. Primarily the position will establish an effective communication strategy and manage data collection for sustainability planning and reporting. Manages data collection for AASHE STARS, Sierra Club Green Schools, Princeton Review Green College Guide and other organizations, along with managing all submittals to these organization and to the University of California, Office of the President for system reporting. The director will have a close partnership with the Faculty Lead for the Office of Sustainability and work closely with the Campus Sustainability Committee, and Facilities Services.

The full salary range for the Director of Sustainability is $90,400 – $169,000 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $125,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Qualifications
You are:
