Position Summary:

The Energy Specialist is primarily responsible for completing walk through energy efficiency assessments, the installation of energy efficiency equipment and products, and for deepening customer awareness of and participation in rebate programs and the Utility’s energy efficiency program. They are also responsible for responding to general customer inquiries regarding utility services they receive and for directing the customer to the appropriate contact at the utility company.

Build quick rapport with utility customers. Initiate conversations with customers regarding energy usage.
Clearly explain and articulate energy assessment findings to building owner including explanation of energy efficiency rebates.
Respond to general utility customer service inquiries and explain other energy rebate offerings and services to customers during home visit. This could include showing customers short videos on Utility company websites or helping them sign in to their utility account online.
Assist Marketing team as directed in with participation in larger trade show and seminar events.
Actively identify and recommend ways to improve program operations and delivery.
Continuously drive improvements in quality, customer satisfaction and productivity.
Accurately complete and maintain all required paperwork, records and documents, etc.
Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.

Renewable Energy Intern – Engineering Assistant

Supporting assigned MEA energy programs by drafting program materials, reviewing invoices and program reports, and assisting program managers with direct customer service.

Position Location:

A hybrid remote telework and in-office schedule is available per the policies of the Maryland Energy Administration and State of Maryland, which may change from time to time. ESSENTIAL DUTIES

General Responsibilities

Build upon a forward-thinking corporate sustainability program that can be effectively implemented at all levels of the company; internally and externally communicated; aligned with industry objectives; and climate impactful.

Lead the execution of functional strategy, the operational direction, and ongoing assessment of a multi-year Alterra Mountain Company sustainability strategic plan, in alignment and collaboration with Enterprise Strategy; Capital Improvement Plans; and individual resort/regional strategies.

Advance company policy and goals on sustainability through activism and advocacy at local, regional, state and federal levels for the betterment of the business and the community.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum 10-15 years relevant professional experience in a fast-paced, high-performance business environment, with at least 3 years of people management experience.

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Environmental Studies, Business, Public Policy or other related field as applicable; Master’s Degree and Professional certifications (LEED, FSA/SASB, GRI, WELL, etc) highly preferred.

A proven track record of effective corporate sustainability leadership, program development and implementation at an organizational level.

Decarbonization Program Manager

The Urban Land Institute’s Randall Lewis Center for Sustainability’s Decarbonization Program is seeking a Manager to support implementation of key programs, undertake research, and coordinate activities across the Center’s decarbonization program of work with a special focus of thought leadership on the tenant and embodied carbon elements of real estate’s journey to net zero.

ULI’s Decarbonization Program is focused on climate mitigation and makes the business case for green buildings by tying carbon reductions to increased asset value. The program includes three workstreams to advance decarbonization in the global real estate industry: the Greenprint Community of Practice, Decarbonization Thought Leadership, and Net Zero City Engagement. The Decarbonization Program is organized within ULI’s Randall Lewis Center for Sustainability in Real Estate, which also covers Urban Resilience and Healthy Places.

Core areas of focus for the Decarbonization Program center around real estate’s journey to net zero, and engagement of stakeholders across the real estate value chain to achieve that goal. This includes development of research reports and resources on the business case for high performance green buildings, the convening of market leaders to advance sustainability in real estate, the analysis of portfolio-wide benchmark performance of ULI Greenprint members, and the promotion of results to the broader ULI membership and real estate market at large.

The salary range for this position in Washington, D.C. is set at $75,700 to $80,350 annually. Actual salary will vary based on factors including experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors. Please note that salary ranges for this position may differ in other locations. Sustainability Manager

New Hanover County is seeking a dynamic Sustainability Manager to lead and integrate sustainability goals into long-term strategic plans. The successful candidate will plan, implement, and oversee efforts to enhance sustainability and resiliency through policies, programs, education, and outreach initiatives. Reporting to an Assistant County Manager and serving as a point of contact for sustainability issues within the County Manager’s Office, this additional role to the organization will manage the overall direction and coordination of sustainability and resiliency activities.

Key responsibilities include conducting climate risk assessments, coordinating the county’s hazard mitigation plans, and developing resilience plans and processes for natural disasters. The manager will educate stakeholders on best practices and participate in policy discussions, including assisting in budget recommendations. They will also conduct sustainability audits, identify opportunities, and implement strategies for waste minimization, climate change adaptation, green procurement, clean water access, and energy efficiency.

As the county’s liaison and representative on committees and community initiatives related to sustainability and resiliency efforts, the manager will be the subject matter expert on such matters for the county. The manager will also work collaboratively with senior leaders and various departments to ensure an organization-wide approach to sustainability, to include identifying best practices for green infrastructure, urban agriculture, low-impact development, and green spaces. Additional duties include gathering and analyzing data, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, procuring resources, and researching grant opportunities. The role requires regular attendance, participation in emergency situations, and adaptability to other duties as needed. Climate Action Project Specialist

The Baltimore City Office of Sustainability is recruiting for a Project Specialist to coordinate climate and resiliency initiatives, particularly a grant-funded project that will install solar power and back up batteries at several Community Resiliency Hubs sites. Baltimore’s Community Resiliency Hub Program is an innovative and impactful community-centered initiative that increases community capacity to prepare for, withstand, and respond to natural hazard impacts and emergency situations. The goal of this program is to better connect frontline community organizations with focused support and resources so that, in the event of a natural disaster or emergency, there is improved provision of emergency response and recovery services to under-resourced neighborhoods and their most vulnerable residents. The Program is a partnership between service-based community organizations in Baltimore’s most climate-vulnerable neighborhoods and the Office of Sustainability (BoS), Office of Emergency Management (OEM), and Department of Health (BCHD). The Office of Sustainability is the lead agency that is responsible for growing and managing the Program as a key strategy of Baltimore’s Disaster Preparedness Plan (DP3).

The Project Specialist will ensure that the project incorporates, advances, and operationalizes equity in all activities and engagement processes, and will seek opportunities to create co-benefits to address other community needs through projects as possible. The Project Specialist will contribute to efforts to expand the Community Resiliency Hub program and other climate action projects that increase resiliency and safety in frontline communities. This position is grant funded however it may continue beyond the grant period if additional funds are secured.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develop and/or maintain accurate project scopes, schedules, and budget in coordination with the project partners, funders, and contractors.
Manage grant-funded projects within the Project Specialists’ portfolio, including submitting reports and remaining in contact with funders.
Coordinate the development and management of agreements and contracts required to successfully complete projects, including supervising contractor work.
Identify, evaluate, and manage project risks, ensuring that appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
Coordinate and manage project team members, including City and State representatives, contractors, Community Resiliency Hub manager, partners and other stakeholders or community members, to ensure that projects are completed on time and to the highest quality standards.

Provides building science-based recommendations to clients for saving energy, improving comfort and healthfulness, and reducing environmental impact, which may include new construction or retrofit projects that will not be receiving HERS ratings
Passive House consulting must ensure super-insulated envelopes, airtight construction, high performance glazing, thermal-bridge-free detailing, and heat recover ventilation at a minimum
Performs blower door tests, duct leakage tests, and ventilation tests in single family and multifamily buildings at different stages of construction or renovation
Coordinate with other staff to complete testing of large projects
Stay up to date on the progress of all projects, managing numerous projects simultaneously
Ensure projects stay on track to achieve energy efficiency goals and program requirements
Maintains ongoing relationships with customers for future opportunities

Education and Experience:

RESNET HERS Rater ENERGY STAR Homes or Multifamily New Construction PHIUS Passive House Verifier or Rater. However, we are willing to train someone without this experience who is passionate about reducing the environmental impact of buildings and has a strong technical background or education and experience as a residential energy analyst
Must have strong math and geometry skills, excellent computer skills including Excel and databases, and excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong communication skills including the ability to communicate technical information for practical application are key
Must have a strong commitment to improving the sustainability of residential buildings
You must be able to move throughout a construction environment including outdoors, in basements and crawl spaces, and in unfinished or unfloored attics
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and climb ladders and use technical and scientific equipment
Hands-on understanding of building science, mechanical systems, and energy efficiency requirements
Experience in energy modeling, LEED template, CAD, and modeling software such as Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, eQuest, and/or REMRate, Ekotrope

Senior Associate, Decarbonization

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a global, nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., working to improve environmental sustainability, human health, and resilience in the built environment through its programs and rating systems including LEED. Today, people in over 150 countries and territories live, work, and learn in LEED certified buildings, communities, and cities that protect health, climate, and natural resources, and enhance quality of life.

USGBC is currently seeking a Senior Associate to support the development of a suite of rating systems including the LEED green building rating system with an emphasis on decarbonization. This role supports activities across the technical development team and focuses on a variety of research and rating system topics including operational carbon reduction, embodied carbon reduction, waste prevention and product optimization. This role will support future rating system development while ensuring that the versions currently in-use are supported.

Specific Responsibilities:

Program Support (Technical Development)

Assist in the development and implementation of strategic goals for the decarbonization across several credit categories in LEED.
Provide input on and execute vision from senior management for the next wave of market transformation.
Utilize your current knowledge of concepts in the built environment, while also developing additional expertise and skill sets in the fields of energy efficiency, embodied carbon, alternative transportation, and zero waste.
Facilitate technical reviews, conduct research, and build consensus on technical solutions that enhance the usability and implementation of the rating system worldwide.
Engage with global external subject matter experts with knowledge of all aspects of building materials and environmental issues.
Gather and incorporate feedback from stakeholders internally and externally for use in LEED version 5 and beyond.
Stay abreast of new and developing industry issues and trends.
Perform public speaking and help with production of technical content for presentations, marketing, and the usgbc.org website.

Committee Support

Assist with the facilitation of Technical Advisory Group (TAG) meetings, creating TAG agendas.
Develop and review education materials and social media content.
Collaborate and co-develop concepts alongside staff and volunteers.
Work collaboratively with other members of the team to ensure maintenance of a balanced, cohesive, and cogent rating system.
Assist as needed to support deliverables within the Technical Development Team.
Collaborate with USGBC staff to develop and deliver engaging, high-quality and solution-oriented meeting agendas, memos, and informational documents to committees.
Support committee member projects and the development of LEED technical solutions that improve the usability and implementation of the rating system around the world.
Assist in the communication of projects and priorities to external stakeholders.

Education & Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
2+ years experience supporting committees or group work involving consensus-building.
Enjoys working with a dynamic team of change-makers in a fast-paced environment.
Technical understanding and some experience with one or more of the following topics: energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, upfront carbon reduction from structure and enclosure, MEP, interior products, waste prevention and reduction, alternative transportation etc.
Ability to distill complex technical information into succinct, clear language.
Confidence when responding to and prioritizing multiple requests from external experts and senior managers.
Superior verbal and written communication skills; able to produce brief, clear, and persuasive written communications.
Familiarity with green building concepts generally, or the LEED rating system specifically; LEED Green Associate or LEED Accredited Professional credential preferred. Candidate will need to obtain a LEED Green Associate credential within 9 months of employment.

Responsibilities

Perform and evaluate engineering calculations to determine energy savings for residential, industrial and commercial energy efficiency measures.
Support with residential, commercial and industrial decarbonization research in areas related to energy efficiency, alternative fuels, and electrification.
Support our engineering teams by developing to measurement and verification plans.
Perform commercial and industrial site visits to verify energy efficiency measure installation and operating parameters, and collect relevant data to inform engineering analysis of energy savings.

Qualifications:

MA/MS in electrical, mechanical, industrial engineering or related field with 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience in the energy field OR a BA/BS with 5 to 7 years of relevant professional experience in the energy field.
Knowledge of data logging techniques and equipment.
Strong interest in energy efficiency, carbon reduction and mitigation technologies, and clean energy.
Experience analyzing energy use of commercial and industrial systems, using analysis techniques, such as regression models and bin analysis, cross-validation, and parameter tuning/optimization.
Experience conducting ASHRAE Level II & III Audits.
Experience with project planning and budget management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate complicated issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making capabilities.
Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preference for EIT, PE, CEM, or CMVP.
