Federal Research and Outreach Manager

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), a leading national research and advocacy organization based in Washington, DC, seeks a federal research and outreach manager for its federal policy program. The manager will build our growing coalition on housing efficiency and finance and conduct research on federal policies to spur efficiency as a key approach to equitably address the climate crisis.

Position Description:

ACEEE seeks a federal research and outreach manager to engage in research, policy development, and outreach on federal energy efficiency policies in the United States. This is an exciting position for someone looking to have real-world impact by advancing effective programs and policies that benefit consumers and the climate. The manager will coordinate a variety of research and outreach projects, working closely with energy efficiency experts in the federal policy program, other ACEEE policy and technical teams, and external organizations.

The core responsibilities of the position include:

Coordinating a diverse coalition of different organizations dedicated to supporting federal housing finance policies that lower costs with energy efficiency and decarbonization;
Conducting research on federal energy efficiency policies, including estimating energy savings, emissions reductions, and equity impacts from proposed energy efficiency legislation, regulations, and programs;
Providing comments on proposed regulations and engaging in outreach to federal agencies and Congress;
Developing policy fact sheets, blog posts, and funding proposals and reports.

The manager will work on projects of high visibility in the energy efficiency and policy communities. The position includes engagement with national leaders in energy efficiency as well as opportunities to develop expertise in multiple policy and research areas.

Salary: This is a full-time, exempt position. The expected salary is $82,000, with a range of $82,000-$90,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. A. What We Need – Position Description

SEEA seeks a Senior Associate to change the status quo of SE energy efficiency by planning and implementing clean energy programs and projects. The SA will cultivate expertise and resources, engage with stakeholders to understand their distinct needs and perspectives, and support processes and special projects to leverage available resources for SEEA initiatives. Reporting to the director of technology and market solutions, the SA will support initiatives including, but not limited to, building energy codes/energy efficiency programs/energy efficient transportation efforts while contributing to SEEA’s cross-functional work. Project and Program Management

With the supervision and support of a director or manager, the senior associate will:

Build high trust relationships with project partners and relevant stakeholders (e.g., local communities, funding organizations, interested parties, state agencies, etc.) by serving as the point of contact and liaison to effectively communicate needs and resources.
Create and maintain comprehensive project plans, documentation, and other deliverables as needed to support completing grant and project objectives.
Prepare and submit funding reports, financial reports, reimbursement requests, and invoices as grant and project agreements require.
Lead and partner with SEEA staff with various initiatives, including special projects, research, grant proposal, and logistics planning.

Sustainability Transportation Manager

The City of South Portland is currently seeking a 37.5 hour a week full-time Sustainability Transportation Manager to join our Sustainability team. This is an opportunity to join a well-run city and play a part in serving our community with further opportunities for professional growth. We are seeking a steady individual with solid communication skills to collaborate with our Sustainability Director and to act as a resource for the Planning Division, Public Works Department, South Portland Bus Service, and all City departments.

Position Summary: The purpose of this position is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with South Portland’s transportation sector and manage the City’s sustainable transportation efforts. The Sustainability Transportation Manager will work under the Sustainability Director and work closely with the Planning Division, Public Works Department, South Portland Bus Service, and all City departments.

The position will have two primary focuses: developing incentives and building the infrastructure needed to transition to electric vehicles and facilitating a substantial mode shift to public transportation, biking, and walking. It will also include, to a lesser degree, broader initiatives in sustainability, planning, municipal operations, anti-idling, and alternative fuels.

The position will have a strong emphasis on education and outreach, garnering support for City policies and programs, and working with the One Climate Future team to promote sustainability initiatives. It will also frequently include representing the City at relevant regional and state-level events and meetings, building partnerships designed to achieve South Portland’s transportation goals, facilitating inter-departmental coordination, and presenting in front of the City Council and various City committees.

Work is performed under the guidance and direction of the Sustainability Director. The position has no direct supervision of any permanent staff, but may have seasonal responsibility to direct the work of student interns.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in transportation planning, urban and/or environmental planning, sustainability, or a related field required.

Experience: Two years’ work experience related to sustainability or transportation required. Experience with outreach and education, program development, and report writing preferred. Experience with Windows/Microsoft Office platform for daily work and GIS software for data management and visualization also preferred.

This is an hourly position with a 37.5 hour standard schedule over a four day week, with the option of remote or in-office flex time on Fridays. Must have a flexible schedule with the ability to work hours outside normal office hours including occasional evenings, weekends and holidays.

Sustainability Coordinator

SUMMARY: To assist in the development and management of programming in environmental, social and economic sustainability. To direct development activities and seek external funding for the Sustainability program from federal, state and private resources. To manage special projects in support of academic programs, community outreach and sustainable energy. To represent UAB Sustainability in the community and at regional and national meetings, to coordinate UAB Sustainability events and to direct student work on special projects.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Acts as development official for UAB Sustainability. Develops and maintains relationships with local, regional, and national granting organizations, corporate representatives and individuals with the capacity to support Sustainability projects. Researches and keeps an active database of funding prospects. Writes proposals, creates budgets and manages reporting and compliance on grants, contracts and sponsorships. Communicates directly with the UAB Office of Development and the Office of Sponsored Programs.
Manages special projects for UAB Sustainability in collaboration with UAB faculty, staff and students. Researches, plans and implements specific programs that support effective management of University resources and operations, planning and design, research activities, curricula, economic development and extra-curricular life.
Supervises student interns and student projects and recruits students, faculty and staff for special projects. Works with the student Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Club to collaborate with federal and local agencies. Works directly with students on individual academic projects, including supervision of course credit projects focused on sustainability programs.
Assists in the planning and execution of events and training programs related to sustainability at UAB to fulfill UAB’s commitment to campus and community special event engagement.
Maintains relationships with community organizations and area non-profits to support intersecting programs. Plans collaborative internal and external events and works with community representatives to expand communications, programming and outreach to a regional and statewide constituency.
Supports regular interactions with Facilities Communications/Central Communications and UAB Digital media. Crafts Sustainability programming stories and reports for national audiences for communication through such organizations as AASHE, the Arbor Day Foundation, and the Department of Energy.
Publicly presents Sustainability program initiatives and activities at local, regional and national meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Sustainability Landscape: Stay informed about sustainability trends, regulations, and laws in the United States, specifically within the dairy sector. Provide insights to fairlife’s leadership on emerging sustainability practices and opportunities.
Sustainability Projects: Work closely with academia, industry partners, and external organizations to drive sustainability research, innovation, and best practices within the fairlife business. Manage sustainability projects with partners.
Collaboration: Internally, the role involves working closely with various teams at fairlife, including technical, agricultural sustainability, and animal health and welfare teams. This collaboration ensures alignment and progress toward sustainability goals. The position also collaborates with Coca-Cola North America and Corporate on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives and reporting.
Lead Internal Sustainability Team: The role leads the internal fairlife sustainability technical team, which focuses on implementing sustainable practices and driving positive impact.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Sustainability, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in sustainability, ESG reporting, or related roles, ideally within the TCCC system or dairy or industry.
Strong knowledge of carbon reduction strategies, circular economy principles, and sustainable supply chain practices.
Familiarity with KOSMOS, TCCC’s internal system for tracking and reporting sustainability metrics, is highly desirable.
The candidate will use business acumen to build and understand business cases for sustainability projects.
Excellent communication skills to engage with internal teams, external partners, and industry experts with both technical and non-technical audiences. The successful candidate should be able to convey complex sustainability concepts clearly.
The ability to lead projects and programs is essential. Leadership skills will be valuable in driving sustainability initiatives.
Creative thinking skills are necessary for developing innovative solutions to sustainability challenges.
