Amgen is searching for an Engineer responsible for planning, design, construction, and operational support to world-wide Amgen clients with emphasis on environmental sustainability related projects and initiatives. The Engineer will be part of the Engineering Technical Authority (ETA) department with a focus on technical assessment, planning, oversight, and design for projects and initiatives that reduce carbon footprint, water consumption, and waste generation. This role collaborates with Corporate and Site Engineers and is a member of Sustainability Engineering team.

Key responsibilities include:

Support the Corporate Environmental Sustainability program by developing and providing updates to strategic energy/carbon, water, and waste reduction targets across global sites

Engineering Project and Proposal Development:

Identify energy and water consumption improvement initiatives and innovative alternative technologies to optimize utility usage

Develop the assessment, cost analysis, technical feasibility, and lifecycle impact of potential energy, water, and waste reduction related projects. This would include generating HVAC, heat-load, energy related, and mass/energy balance calculations

Develop presentations and reports to facilitate the business case development of project proposals

Work with system subject matter experts (SMEs) and clients to develop and specify opportunities for integration of projects within capital planning and equipment lifecycle-based replacement projects

Analyze the system and facilities energy and water usage as well as utility costs to find opportunities for performing energy and water audits on sites

Identify system retro-commissioning opportunities to support advancement of monitoring based commissioning process / digitalization of equipment performance monitoring

Work with project design teams and external consultants to design, develop, and support engineering project development, plans, standards, and equipment selection

Ensure commissioning and qualification standards are developed and used. Provide support & lead aspects of C&Q

Investigate technology and issues as a technical SME for initiative and project design teams. Designs include new and renovated systems as well as new technology deployment. Ensure designs optimize the total equipment life cycle

Develop and approve procedures for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of systems

Ensure the delivery of system maintenance plans including Computerized Maintenance Management System database build-out, spare parts identification and stocking strategies, and maintenance plans.

Sustainability Program Reporting and Communications:

Connect with state and local utility companies to identify and understand available incentives for implementing energy and water reduction projects or pilot project opportunities;

Collaborate with site engineering teams as well as site and corporate EHSS teams to develop annual corporate sustainability reports (which include reporting and verification of global energy, water, and waste reduction projects);

Perform and support the measurement and verification of site sustainability projects to verify the actual energy, water, and waste reduction goals are achieved.

Provide engineering support and complex issue resolution during build and installation processes.

Assist sites in operational troubleshooting.

The Pacific Institute is seeking a collaborative and impact-focused Researcher to support interdisciplinary research and analysis that advances water sustainability, resilience, and equity. Director of Sustainability & Stewardship

The Director of Sustainability & Stewardship oversees the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that promote resource stewardship and sustainability throughout San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. This position facilitates strategy aligned to the organization’s mission and vision and strategic priorities. This is a highly visible and strategic role and the primary point of contact for the Sustainability Task Force, Executive Committee, Leadership Team and Board of Directors. Senior Director, Energy and Environment Campaigns

American Progress has an immediate opening for a Senior Director for the Energy and Environment Campaigns team, the communication and advocacy arm for American Progress’ climate and conservation teams. The Senior Director will develop and execute a communications strategy for American Progress’ climate, energy, and conservation priorities; collaborate with internal and external partners; and manage a diverse and high-performing team of communications, campaign, and research staff. The ideal candidate will bring experience and strong commitment to working on energy, environmental, conservation, environmental justice, or climate change issues.

Responsibilities:

Lead the Energy and Environment department’s strategy, development, and execution of public-facing communications and campaigns to achieve ambitious climate, clean energy, and conservation policy.
Develop strategies to drive a narrative around the successful implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act and its climate investments; advocate for continued regulatory action to ensure the United States meets its climate goals; and advocate for well-paying union jobs in the clean energy economy and environmental justice sphere.
Collaborate on strategic planning and implementation with the Senior Vice President and other team leads for the Energy and Environment department, as well as the organization’s Communications and Advocacy and Outreach departments.
Coordinate the day-to-day management of the Energy and Environment Campaigns team by overseeing team members’ work planning and professional development; managing the team’s budget and general administration, including tracking team products and progress toward goals; and assisting with grant reports.
Effectively leverage communications, campaigns, and digital advocacy tactics in pursuit of political and legislative goals, including by drafting and/or maintaining editorial oversight of messaging guidance, internal talking points, op-eds, videos, events, digital media, and press statements.
Follow local, state, and national political and policy conversations and make strategic recommendations for American Progress’ engagement. Set and execute rapid-response research priorities in response to breaking news and significant moments surrounding climate action, clean energy, union jobs, environmental justice, and fossil fuel accountability.
Liaise with American Progress’ senior management and other American Progress teams—in particular the Communications, Digital Strategy and Digital Advocacy teams—to ensure that climate, clean energy, and conservation priorities are reflected in American Progress’ public-facing communications and ideas.
Drive American Progress’ engagement with diverse coalitions, including the Climate Action Campaign, the Equitable and Just National Climate Platform, and more—maintaining strong and trusted relationships with key partners while achieving demonstrable progress toward Energy and Environment department priorities.
Represent the Energy and Environment department to the press, policymakers, academics, and other outside stakeholders, including through establishing and maintaining relationships with staff on the Hill and in the administration.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
At least 8 to 10 years of political, government, and/or nonprofit experience in climate policy and Campaign experience is a plus.
Staff management and leadership experience as well as a strong commitment to developing staff and creating a trusted, open, and supportive workplace culture.
Demonstrated excellence in political strategy, strategic communications, and advocacy.
Ability to multitask and prioritize.
Exceptional project management experience and the ability to manage quick-turnaround deliverables, as well as long-term strategy implementation, reporting, and metric tracking.
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work well on a team that handles rapid-response communications.

Responsibilities

Managing environmental project work across D&C and could be a Planner, Engineers and/or Architect to meet the anticipated influx of projects related to planning, studies, and integration of resilient and sustainable solutions
Provide leadership and support to all OGS D&C client agencies with planning, contracting, implementing, and executing programs and projects relating to resiliency and sustainability.
Maintain strong relationships with clients, and all divisions within OGS as well as building relationships across diverse stakeholders.
Oversee project or consultant teams as they conduct research, expert interviews, data gathering and analysis.
Communicate effectively, identify, and mitigate risks and assure that decisions are made timely to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
Supervise multi-discipline project teams and projects/programs as they relate to environmental initiatives, resiliency, and sustainability.
OGS D&C liaison to the Division of Resiliency and Sustainability and assist with defining goals, metrics of success and creative strategies and innovative ideas to drive sustainability throughout OGS proper as well as in alignment with other State agencies and the overall State vision.
Assists in the development and implementation of specific resiliency and sustainability initiatives.
Provides suggestions and recommendations to improve process efficiencies that will positively impact sustainability related initiatives.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or higher level degree in in engineering, coastal resources, management, ecology, ecosystem management, environmental health, environmental science, environmental studies, forestry, geography, geology, hydrology, marine science, natural resources, natural science, planning, public administration, public policy AND one year of professional experience in project management or the establishment of environmental programs; preparing, implementing or reviewing plans, projects, regulations or environmental impact statements; preparing sustainability or resiliency materials involving environmental matters; or preparing environmental analysis of resilient or sustainable issues.
A master’s degree or higher in a qualifying field may substitute for one year of the required experience. Envision, Well Building or LEED certification is a plus.
