Role Description

The New England Senior Program Manager is responsible for supporting the New England Environmental Sustainability Director to drive achievement of National Grid’s environmental sustainability goals across the US business, with a specific focus on New England.

This role is important for ensuring the New England (NE) business unit is positioned to deliver on these goals by –
1) maintaining up-to-date internal and external greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, reporting, and compliance, in alignment with our corporate Responsible Business Charter and various external mandatory and voluntary commitments
2) collaborating with team members and stakeholders across the New England business to update and embed environmental commitments and ambitions into business operations, plans, and governance structures
3) operating efficiently through supporting development of in-house tools and projects
4) sharing industry best practices through engagement with peer organizations
Key Accountabilities

1. Environmental Sustainability Performance Management
a. Responsible for calculating and distributing NE performance reporting updates on GHG emissions reductions performance compared to plans
b. Partner with key stakeholders to support the management of the GHG inventory spreadsheets and databases for the NE business by collecting and assessing data from across the business and calculating business-specific emissions for scopes 1, 2, and 3
c. Contribute to GHG reporting, accounting methodology documentation and testing as part of annual Responsible Business Report data verification and publication
d. Support external regulatory, mandatory and voluntary GHG reporting and compliance efforts (including EPA, MA DEP, CDP and others) through data calculations and summaries
e. Support GHG components of Massachusetts Electric and Gas rate case filings
f. Monitor and contribute to internal and external GHG accounting / reporting standards and trends

2. Emissions Reductions Glidepaths
a. Manage the NE business 2050 emissions glidepath in coordination with Environmental Sustainability team and other key departments, including Strategy and Transformation
b. Ensure alignment of the emissions reductions glidepaths with other long-term roadmaps and strategic plans across the business

3. Sustainability Program & Project Management
a. Support in-house sustainability programs and data systems, which may include emissions calculation and reporting tools, maintaining file sharing platforms
b. Support management of summer interns and special project groups

4. Peer Engagement and Best Practice Development
a. Support engagement with external trade associations and coalitions by participating in webinars and events, engaging with colleagues at peer utilities, completing surveys and benchmarks, and sharing learnings with internal team

The Role

Responsible for advising developers and project managers on environmental diligence, strategic permitting, and responsible development, and providing compliance support to construction divisions and operation divisions for community and transmission-scale solar and transmission facilities in the Midwest and Northeast Regions of the U.S.

Responsibilities:

Develop environmental survey and permitting strategies for community and transmission scale solar projects in the Midwest and Northeast Regions of the U.S., such as IL, OH and PA.
Develop standard scopes for standard environmental diligence processes. Advise project developers on scope and consultant selection and management for standard development activities.
Directly oversee scoping of and manage complex environmental processes, such as impact permitting, mitigation negotiation and targeted natural resource studies, within the Company and with outside consultants.
Advise in development and implementation of procedures and policies to ensure continuous compliance with existing and pending environmental regulations.
Conduct environmental due diligence for development and acquisition opportunities.
Lead federal and state land and wildlife agency communication and coordination.
Review technical reports. Reports typically include, but are not limited to: Phase I ESA, wetland and waterway delineations, desktop environmental screenings, habitat evaluations, threatened/endangered/sensitive species surveys, avian and bat use surveys, and post-construction monitoring studies.
Review plans for management of environmental matters during construction and operations. Plans include, but are not limited to: SPCC, waste management plans, construction oversight plans for compliance with respect to species protection and archaeological resource protection.
Assist in development of protocols to manage ongoing compliance requirements during operations and maintenance. Advise on compliance issues when needed.
Participate in regional and national initiatives, symposia, conferences, and industry groups as needed to achieve Company objectives.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or an Environmental-related field from an accredited college/university.
Experience and expertise interpreting federal and state environmental laws (ESA, NEPA, CWA), guidelines, and policies.
7+ years professional experience in environmental permitting and/or compliance in Midwest or Northeast Regions of the U.S. Experience in NY, MA, CT, MD a plus.
Experience in construction and operational compliance support, including, but not limited to: SPCC, CCP, ESC and SWPPP, a plus.
Self-directed and detail oriented, with the ability and desire to work effectively in a team environment.
Able to act and adapt to a fast-paced business environment with competing deadlines.
Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
May include local or regional travel, as allowed by health and safety requirements.

Preferred:

Advanced degree in biological science/natural resources/environmental policy or environmental law degree preferred.
Experience in development. Experience in renewable energy industry a plus.

Location: Preferably based in the Central or East Coast time zone. We have office locations in Durham, Asheville, Washington DC, and New York but are open to remote as well.

Energy Specialist – Project Manager

The Arlington Initiative to Rethink Energy (AIRE), a division of Arlington County’s Office of Sustainability and Environmental Management (OSEM), is seeking an Energy Specialist – Project Manager to implement its growing portfolio of community facing energy programs. The project manager will support strategic design and development of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and clean transportation programs and projects; and manage energy projects resulting from that collaboration, including potential state and federal grant projects.

In September 2019, Arlington County adopted an updated Community Energy Plan (CEP) that sets defined goals for renewable energy resourcing, decarbonization, transition to carbon-neutral transportation, and arriving at a carbon-neutral community. The CEP is operationalized through the CEP Roadmap, which integrates dramatic transition and emerging technologies in the transportation, creates a pathway toward energy resilience, and introduces energy equity into policy and program design.

Specific duties include:

Energy/climate program management in all phases from design through application development, administration, implementation and reporting, with the ability to federalize projects based on funding source;
Working within the AIRE Team to advance strategic planning for the climate and energy programs addressing the broader Community Energy Plan (CEP) and implementation of greenhouse gas reduction strategies under the CEP Roadmap;
Supports and develops energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, and clean transportation programs and projects with an emphasis on innovate program design and delivery;
Contributes technical assistance and strategic planning to the climate and energy programs that drive CEP 2019 goals;
Develops, manages, and implements energy programs and initiatives to reduce the County’s energy consumption;
Supports measurement, evaluation, and reporting of metrics that calculate GHG emissions reductions and other CEP/CEP Roadmap milestones, benchmarks, and goals;
Supports development, publication, and updating energy, climate, and/or sustainability dashboards and website(s); and
Condenses and communicates complex energy concepts to staff, internal and external stakeholders, and the public through verbal presentations, program outreach materials, written memos and position papers, and Board Reports.

The successful candidate has excellent communication and presentation skills and will possess the following:

Knowledge of and/or experience with energy programs and projects designed to promote energy equity, positive public health outcomes, decision-support tools, and/or energy efficiency financing mechanisms;
Familiarity with greenhouse gas inventories, and developing effective reduction strategies and technologies for energy use, buildings, transportation, waste, and other operations; and
Ability to assess design and installation of energy-efficient system modifications for performance and cost-effectiveness.

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, or related field, plus:
Two (2) years of progressive energy or equity program and project experience, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, and/or clean transportation.

Project management under federal and/or state-funded grant programs;
Involvement with design and development of successful grant applications;

Sustainability Assistant

The City of Hartford is seeking a full-time Sustainability Assistant, and a part-time Sustainability Assistant, to facilitate and administer community projects related to energy efficiency and environmental sustainability in the community. The Sustainability Assistants will report to the City’s Sustainability Director in the Office of Sustainability and Office of the Chief Operating Officer. The Sustainability Assistant will support a variety of activities related to the implementation of the City’s Climate Action Plan, City Plan and much more.
Full-Time Sustainability Assistant Salary: $40,000.00 – $45,000.00 per year

Part-Time Sustainability Assistant Pay Rate: $21.00 per hour

Under general supervision, plans and executes departmental projects and initiatives. Evaluates projects for improvement. Performs outreach under the direction of City staff and/or contractors; outreach locations may include Neighborhood Revitalization Zone meetings, local events, farmers markets, community centers, online, and more. Conducts research on various topics relating to sustainability and energy efficiency. Supports project managers, as needed, including on procurement-related matters (i.e. RFPs, contracts) or other duties. Supports City staff in meetings with notetaking, agenda development, adherence to legal reporting requirements, and technology logistics for online meetings. This manager will represent Stratton in external forums as spokesperson, advocate positions, and create networks of influence and partnerships and influence the resort operation in a way to attain environmental certification.

The Sustainability Manager will use a variety of research and accounting methods to analyze, report and validate recommendations for sustainability projects and programs. The manager will also liaison with Alterra’s Sustainability Division as Stratton Mountain Resort’s representative in the enterprise-wide sustainability initiatives.

This is a full-time year-round benefit eligible position. The compensation range for this position is $53,000 – $63,000 per year.

Sustainability Analyst

The Sustainability Analyst works as part of ASU’s University Sustainability Practices team. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the collection and analysis of ASU’s campus sustainability information for submission to numerous reporting, rating, and commitment frameworks used for benchmarking and communicating sustainability in higher education. The role may also support project implementation to advance ASU’s sustainability commitments.

Essential Duties

Lead the collection and analysis of campus-wide sustainability metrics such as greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and waste diversion.
Manage internal communications to gather information and to complete external sustainability reports.

Program Supervisor

Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy (R&E) is searching for a Program Supervisor. R&E is a joint powers entity formed by Ramsey and Washington Counties. R&E coordinates recycling and waste programs between the two counties (joint activities) and owns and operates the Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy Center (R&E Center) in Newport, Minnesota (recyclingandenergy.org). R&E’s vision is vibrant, healthy communities without waste, and R&E accomplishes its mission through partnerships and innovation.
This position reports to the R&E Joint Activities Manager and will provide leadership to R&E’s communications, outreach, community engagement, and education efforts. This position will supervise the team of staff working on these efforts and will closely collaborate with staff from both counties.

This is professional work including, but not limited to the following:

Provide supervision to R&E staff working on communications, outreach, and education (COE) efforts and provide leadership to staff from Ramsey County and Washington County that are collaborating on these efforts.
Oversee the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of COE efforts of R&E, including:
Develop, utilize, and monitor annual work plans for COE.
Manage the day-to-day COE activities and coordinate the team working on these efforts.
Manage internal communications with Ramsey County, Washington County and R&E for key staff, departments, and the R&E Board.
Manage external communications activities to ensure appropriate representation of R&E, accurate public-facing information, and proper media relations.
Analyze and evaluate existing program policies and procedures, coordinate the development of new or revised policies and procedures, and ensure their proper implementation. Lead continuous improvement efforts for COE policies and ensure understanding and alignment of policies with Ramsey and Washington counties.
Oversee vendor contracts, including the management of existing contracts and the identification and procurement of new vendor needs. Ensure contractual goals are met, vendor deliverables are completed and on time and all program data is collected, analyzed, and reported as necessary.
Manage the development, implementation and evaluation of effective strategic program plans, priorities, and goals; including communications, outreach, community engagement and internal operations.
Collaborate with county and R&E staff and various stakeholders to maintain connections to other related activities, including county-specific COE priorities.
Collaborate with staff from R&E and both counties to identify opportunities to advance progress on R&E goals.
Manage the collection and evaluation of program information and data to assemble a variety of reports, charts or manuals and conduct research on special projects.
Maintain records and files associated with the program area and ensure compliance with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.
Work with the Joint Activities Manager to develop, manage and evaluate an annual program budget. Assemble data and compile budget estimates; plan and administer budgetary controls; process budget related paperwork and maintain accounts; monitor department/division payroll and personnel transactions.

Minimum Qualifications:
A valid Class D driver’s license is required.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in communications, behavioral sciences, environmental health, environmental studies, environmental science, education, community engagement, marketing, public health, the natural sciences, business administration, public administration or a closely related field.

Experience: Five years of experience in public sector service delivery, preferably, but not necessarily, related to communications, behavioral sciences, environmental health, environmental studies, environmental science, education, community engagement, marketing, public health, the natural sciences, business administration, public administration or a closely related field. At least two years of experience supervising staff, which can be part of the five years of public sector experience, or at least two years of private sector supervisory experience in addition to the five years of public sector experience.

Substitution: A Master’s degree in any of the above fields may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Sustainability Analyst

The Sustainability Analyst is responsible for data collection, data analytics, project management and voluntary disclosure reporting for Scoular’s Sustainability Program. The position will report to the Corporate Sustainability Manager and drive the long-term integration of people, process, and technology solutions, enabling Scoular to track performance KPIs and develop formal action plans and projects to reduce its environmental footprint. They must be comfortable in managing complex and multi-faceted projects that involve data, analyses, training and change management. An ideal candidate will be able to manage multiple projects and collaborate cross-functionally, working across Sustainability Pillar Leads providing project and data support.

Job Responsibilities

Manage Scoular’s greenhouse gas inventory in line with the GHG protocol by working closely with all Scoular operated facilities to obtain data and develop monthly reporting to each Scoular business.
Identify opportunities to automate metrics to improve data quality and reporting abilities. Utilize environmental reporting systems and analytics tools to automate metrics via reports, dashboards. Prepare data and lead external verification when applicable.
Support Scoular’s annual sustainability report, publicly facing sustainability communications and external applications to meet publication timelines and content goals.
Interpret sustainability rating methodologies and identify opportunities for score improvement.
Support climate-risk quantification, benchmarking best practices vs. peers and collaborating with teams to develop a value and risk driven approach.
Model impacts of GHG reduction measures and support life-cycle analysis (LCA) projects analysis based on the needs of the business, providing expertise on emissions impacts of activities.
Support customer requests through data analyses, application and development of tools and calculators.

NetZero Building Sustainability Coordinator

WHO YOU ARE?

You are key in assisting AGU to promote discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity, by being operational in focus.

You will support NetZero building operations department and AGU staff with developing and implementing the NetZero building sustainability initiatives, including building emergency planning and coordination, safety, wellness and security, and other related projects.

The NetZero Building Sustainability Coordinator reports to the NetZero Building Operations Manager and plays an integral role in maintaining successful building operations.

WHAT YOU WILL DO?

Assist the NetZero Building Operations Manager with developing policies and procedures related to the NetZero building sustainability.
In partnership with the Building Operations Manager, reviews and updates AGU’s WELL Health and Safety and WELL v2 certification.
Initiate all certification processes associated with the NetZero building designations.
Prepare sustainability reports, analyzes data regarding progress against NetZero building sustainability goals, and make necessary recommendations to the NetZero Building Operations Manager.
Showcase the NetZero building through occasional public tours and engagements that highlight the advanced technologies of the building as well as the data that is being generated toward AGU’s NetZero target.
Support AGU building WELL initiatives that promote attraction and retention of the building tenants.
Write/review building related material for AGU website and media inquiries, as requested by the VP of Communications, Marketing and Media Relations to ensure accuracy.
In support of Human Resources department, conducts the NetZero Building orientation for new hires.
Assist the Safety Committee Chair with the emergency evacuation protocol and processes; provides training to AGU Safety Marshalls.
Monitor local and national sustainability and “green buildingâ€ trends and makes necessary recommendations for building improvement to the NetZero Building Operations Manager as needed.
Provide general administrative support to the NetZero Building Operations department.
Assist the NetZero Building Operations Manager on special projects.
Occasionally lifts boxes of about 25 lbs.
Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING?

Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field with 3+ years of experience in building/facilities management; or equivalent education and work experience.
Current certification(s) in green building or energy management certificate or working towards one, such as LEED Green Associate, Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and WELLS AP are strongly preferred.
Previous experience in developing safety and WELL plans is a plus.
Experience with reporting and data analyzes is a must.
Previous experience working in a membership organization environment is preferred.
Demonstrated success with process improvement.
Professional verbal and written communication skills: ability to communicate effectively and appropriately, responding in a timely manner; speak and write clearly, concisely and with impact.
Understanding of AGU’s organizational culture of honesty, transparency in operations and trust.
Effective time management and organization skills.
Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines.
Professional customer service and interpersonal skills is a must.
Ability to work with independently with minimum supervision.
Computer skills including understanding of databases, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
