The Surfrider Foundation seeks to hire an individual to manage Surfrider’s Coasts and Climate Initiative, joining Surfrider’s Environmental Department. The initiative is focused on protecting and adapting coastlines in the United States and mitigating the impacts of climate change through nature-based solutions on our coasts. Key priorities will include developing Surfrider’s Climate Action Program, supporting state and local policy campaigns, and leading Surfrider’s federal climate campaign efforts. The Senior Manager will oversee two direct reports, the Climate Action Program Manager and Living Shorelines Manager positions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead and execute Surfrider Foundation’s Coasts and Climate Initiative in the United States.
Develop Surfrider’s Climate Action Program in collaboration with the Climate Action Program Manager.
Directly support Surfrider’s site-based coastal adaptation efforts in collaboration with Surfrider’s Living Shoreline Coordinator and regional staff at San Onofre, Surfers’ Point, California, Ecola Creek, Oregon, the North Shore of Oahu, and other locations.
Stay current with relevant science, policy, and political developments related to climate and coastal resilience issues.
Serve as a Foundation media spokesperson on coast and climate related issues.
Work in collaboration with NGO partners, federal and state agencies, universities and other partners to advance Surfrider’s Coasts and Climate Initiative priorities.
Develop content for Surfrider’s communication platforms on coastal resilience and climate change issues..
Represent the organization on relevant advisory boards and coalitions.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with the funding community and identify new fundraising opportunities to support Surfrider’s environmental work.
Manage Surfrider’s Coasts and Climate Initiative grants and solicit new support from foundations, governments, and major givers.
Ensure the team works in a cohesive manner to meet strategic objectives with other departments.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge of coastal policy and management at the federal, state, and local levels.
Knowledge of coastal science, shoreline processes, and climate change issues.
Graduate degree in environmental management, ocean policy, and/or marine science or equivalent experience.
Experience working on nature-based solutions to coastal resilience issues, including habitat restoration, managed retreat, and other coastal adaptation projects such as ‘living shorelines.’
Deep understanding of coastal adaptation strategies using nature-based solutions.
Experience in coastal land use planning, shoreline permitting, and sea level rise adaptation.
The ability to make critical decisions under pressure
Excellent organizational skills.

Policy:

Experience in federal-level campaign planning, policy development, and coalition building.
Understanding of federal-level trends and opportunities for coastal resilience funding.

Zero Waste Manager

The Zero Waste Manager, a key member of Planning and Facilities Management, is responsible for the design, implementation, and overall management and ongoing optimization of Georgetown University’s Zero Waste initiatives. These initiatives include reuse, recovery, redeployment, and donation efforts related to food products, furniture, clothing, educational and/or recreational equipment, and other materials that are salvageable or could otherwise be reused or recycled. Working with campus partners and the Georgetown University community at large, their goal is to identify opportunities and establish initiatives to reduce, minimize, or eliminate material waste campus-wide.

Working in conjunction with the Office of Sustainability, the Zero Waste Manager leads efforts and teams to improve waste management services, including the collection and proper disposal of mixed recycling, food waste, yard waste, cardboard, metals, batteries, furniture, construction debris, mattresses, and other solid waste.

As well they assist in leading efforts to achieve Georgetown’s ambitious long-term vision of achieving Zero Waste (defined by industry standards as at least 90% diversion rate for solid waste).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Coordinates sales and optimizes revenue for recyclable materials
Hires, trains and supervises permanent, temporary and student employees
Tracks, evaluates and continually optimizes program performance
Coordinates operations with other internal and external parties as necessary to achieve goals and objectives
Prepares and submits budget for operational and maintenance needs of the program and equipment
Develops and implements communication programs to educate and engage the University community on recycling and waste reduction requirements, procedures, objectives and goals
Serve as the University’s technical resource regarding minimization, recycling/composting, and waste disposal matters
Ensure the provision of high quality waste management services to the University community; optimize the waste management program’s overall financial and operational efficiencies
Administers contracted services required by the program: hires, trains and supervises permanent, temporary and student employees; stablishes and maintains services and programs that reduce waste and increase diversion; and tracks, evaluates and continually optimizes program performance
Coordinates operations with other internal and external parties as necessary to achieve goals and objectives; and ensures timely registration and accurate reporting of solid waste diversion data to the Office of Waste Diversion in the Department of Public Works in accordance with DC Official Code § 8-1031.05 and DC Official Code § 8-1031.06.
Serves as a dynamic ambassador for the Department and the University, actively participating in sustainability-oriented lectures and events
Passionately advocates for and showcases our waste management endeavors, while also collaborating with student organizations to empower and advance student-led sustainability initiatives.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Working in the Planning and Facilities Management Department, the Zero Waste Manager reports directly to the Assistant Director of Environmental Services. In turn, they supervise the Supervisor of Solid Waste Disposal and Recycling and a team of Recycling Laborers and Heavy Vehicle Operators. During the course of the workday, the Zero Waste Manager interacts directly with faculty, staff, administrators, employees, students, senior leadership, neighbors, external partners, vendors, government agencies and the general public.

As well, they collaborate with colleagues and partners as needed to accomplish the department’s goals – for example, Aramark (Hoya Hospitality), the Office of Sustainability, Office of Neighborhood Life, GUSA, Residential Living, Residential Education, EH&S, SSC, GEMS, as well as other shops and divisions internal to PFM, and others.

Sustainability Coordinator

Sr. Manager, Sustainability

I. Job Summary
The Sustainability Senior Manager will help lead key initiatives and programs that supports WM achieving its Sustainability Ambitions and 2030 Sustainability goals across the company and help to ensure best in class Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) annual disclosures. This role will report directly to the Sr Director, ESG & Sustainability Impact.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a drive for pragmatic solutions that support both sustainability and business objectives. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, a self-starter, and have a strong drive for results.

Manages the development, implementation and execution of sustainability programs and tools to support embedding sustainability throughout the organization.
Engages with both internal and external stakeholders to communicate, represents WM’s values and drive change related to WM’s Sustainability Ambitions.
Comfortable leading change and familiar with best practices for embedding sustainability throughout a company, including programmatic tools such as materiality assessment (double materiality experience a plus), governance structures and change management.
Monitors and facilitates the progress of sustainability programs ensuring consistency enterprise-wide with WM’s sustainability strategy, goals, and reporting standards.
Strong analytical skills and ability to aggregate and analyze large data sets to inform sustainability programs; familiarity with sustainability data management platforms and/or Power BI a plus.
Excels at building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the company to further WM’s Sustainability performance and achieving the 2030 Sustainability Goals.
Supports best-in-class execution of WM’s sustainability reporting, including preparing analysis and content for the standard reporting frameworks, including IFRS/ISSB, TCFD/TNFD, CDP, S&P Global’s CSA, Eco Vadis, and other reports as identified. Assess and support continuous improvement in annual reporting process.
Prepares benchmarking research and monitors trends to ensure that WM maintains its leadership role in sustainability and meeting stakeholder expectations.
Completes presentations, studies, reports, and white papers on ESG for use by internal stakeholders to communicate specific topics, projects and programs.
Is familiar with multiple technical areas, such as climate change, circularity, recycling, and biodiversity, serving as a subject matter expert for internal stakeholders.

Director, Solar for All

The Philadelphia Green Capital Corp. (PGCC) seeks an experienced professional to manage its new Solar For All program providing solar access to low-income households in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware counties.

About PGCC:

The Philadelphia Green Capital Corp. (PGCC) is the green bank affiliate of the Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA). PGCC’s mission is to connect projects to capital, driving a robust, equitable, clean energy market in Philadelphia. The creation of PGCC scales and amplifies PEA’s current work and brings new financial products to the Philadelphia region’s clean energy economy.

PEA, an independent municipal authority, is a quasi-government entity, chartered by City Council and the Mayor in 2010. In 2016, in partnership with City Council President Darrell Clarke, PEA launched the Philadelphia Energy Campaign, a $1 billion, 10-year investment in energy efficiency and clean energy projects to create 10,000 jobs. By the end of 2023, PEA and PGCC will have supported $800MM in projects and created 7,000 jobs. PEA views energy as a high-impact tool for reducing poverty, improving education, strengthening communities, and leveraging public investment.

In Fall 2023, PGCC worked with the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority (PEDA) to submit a coalition application to the U.S. EPA’s Solar for All (SFA) competition. PGCC and PEDA applied for $250MM of funding to support solar access for over 22,000 low-and-middle income households across the Commonwealth. PGCC will administer the SFA program in southeast PA, and EPA funding is expected to be announced in Spring 2024 and distributed later in the year. PGCC plans to build a robust and sustained market for residential solar that operates well beyond the SFA performance period.

Position Summary:

Structuring subsidies and other forms of financial support offered through the SFA program, which may include establishing partnerships with other capital providers
Establishing and managing relationships with all program partners, including, but not limited to: PEDA, county & municipal officials, community groups, solar installers, general contractors, workforce development programs, and PECO
Conducting procurement process (RFPs) for solar installers and other program partners
Managing a variety of funding sources, including government and philanthropic grants; overseeing all aspects of grant compliance and reporting
Expanding the existing Solarize CRM system and instituting performance metric tracking systems
Growing the SFA team to include grants management, accounting, funds management, reporting, and program coordinators. Some of this will be done by hiring additional PGCC staff, while other functions may be procured from third parties.

Climate & Clean Energy Director

Maine Conservation Alliance (MCA) and Maine Conservation Voters (MCV) believe that our response to the climate crisis must include a just energy transition informed by and benefiting Maine communities most affected by climate disruption, pollution, and historic economic disenfranchisement.

The Climate & Clean Energy Director will support our organizations’ missions, strategic plans, and priorities by developing and leading campaigns to advance equitable climate action and clean energy solutions; building and nurturing partnerships that connect policymakers and impacted communities; and supporting the internal commitment to racial justice and equity at MCV and MCA. Focused on offshore wind, solar development, and state energy democracy, the Climate & Clean Energy Director will coordinate and collaborate with critical stakeholders including local community leaders, New Mainers, Wabanaki leaders, environmental advocates, labor unions, businesses, state government, and others to advocate for a just clean energy transition and to advance Maine’s goal of 100% clean energy by 2040.

Lead Mainers for Offshore Wind – an inclusive state table committed to building a shared understanding of the climate, environmental, economic, and community impacts of offshore wind; coordinating with regional partners; and organizing for collective action – and represent MCV/MCA at the regional level in New England for Offshore Wind.
Refine and lead MCV/MCA’s emerging work on energy democracy and utility accountability, including developing policy recommendations and engaging at the Public Utilities Commission.
Research and advocate for clean energy policies and projects that bring Maine closer to its goal of 100% clean energy by 2040, including offshore wind and solar.
Advance state and federal policies and decision-making that further an equitable clean energy transition, including through joining the Director of Government Affairs at the State House to lobby and share policy expertise with legislators.
With MCV/MCA’s Senior Director of Policy & Partnerships, guide board and staff to explore key issues and policy areas, holding equity at the center of our work, and to analyze, develop, and advocate for clean energy solutions.
Develop strong working relationships with, and listen to and learn from, critical stakeholders including local communities, New Mainers, Wabanaki leaders, environmental advocates, labor unions, business and industry, and state government to build and advance a just clean energy transition.
Contribute to informing and shaping the work of Maine’s Environmental Priorities Coalition, a partnership of 34 environmental, conservation, and public health organizations convened by MCV/MCA.

Sustainability Coordinator

The Town of Longmeadow, MA is seeking qualified applicants for the FT position of Sustainability Coordinator. Under the general direction of the Assistant Town Manager/Director of Planning & Community Development, performs program design, development, analysis, and implementation of the Town’s energy conservation and efficiency programs. Performs customer relations, outreach and education duties related to waste disposal DPW programs, including solid waste reduction, education, safety, and more.

The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for the administrative, technical, and supervisory tasks related to all renewable energy and energy efficiency and conservation policies, practices, and projects for the Town. Responsible for the development, management, and coordination of duties to identify, develop, implement, and manage innovative and effective programs and policies to achieve a high level of energy and resource sustainability for the municipal sector. Coordinates with the DPW Facilities Director to implement municipal energy use reduction projects and strategies in municipal facilities. Responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, and managing relevant and targeted energy conservation and education programming for the residential and commercial sectors. Attends meetings of appropriate Boards and Committees and other public meetings as required to further the Town’s energy use reduction goals and the relevant goals of the Long Range Plan.

Associates Degree required, preferably in the field of Engineering, Natural or Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Business, or related degree; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Three to five years direct experience, preferably in a municipal setting, developing, funding, and implementing energy efficiency/management and renewable energy projects and/or programs. Experience in utility planning, research and grants writing, financial analysis, energy and sustainability, business case and case study presentations preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be accepted.

Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite is required. Driver’s license required. Working knowledge of local and state regulations. Sustainability Coordinator

The current Sustainability Coordinator vacancy in the Water Use Efficiency Section is responsible for overseeing a team that ensures the Santa Rosa Water Department is in compliance with Local, State and Federal water use efficiency standards and is meeting established water system targets. The position is expected to be able to be able to analyze customer water use patterns and identify effective water use efficiency, reduction, and water waste mitigation measures; prepare information, make presentations, and oversee a dynamic team implementing a variety of customer incentive programs and regulations which promote the efficient use of water. The position also implements special projects and initiatives related to water supply planning, climate change resiliency, resource management, and sustainability.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:
The successful candidate will have experience with water use efficiency programs, implementing and analyzing resource efficiency programs, knowledge of current regulation and legislation related to water use efficiency, project management skills, will be detail oriented, will have strong writing skills, outstanding communication and presenting skills, and superior customer service skills. Additionally, the successful candidate will have experience supervising, coaching and mentoring staff as well as the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work together to develop regional collaborations to implement regional water resources efficiency programs.

SANTA ROSA WATER – PROTECTING PUBLIC HEALTH:
Santa Rosa Water’s mission is to provide essential water services and invest in a sustainable future for our community. Santa Rosa Water delivers approximately six billion gallons of drinking water, each year, to over 53,000 customer accounts, and maintains the sanitary sewer system for over 49,000 customer accounts in Santa Rosa, serving a population of 173,000. These systems include roughly 1,200 miles of water and sewer pipelines. Santa Rosa Water also owns and operates the Regional Water Reuse System, providing wastewater treatment and water reuse for Santa Rosa and four surrounding communities. Santa Rosa Water also provides oversight of the City’s storm drain system and management of approximately 100 miles of creeks. The department protects public health and the environment by providing a safe and reliable water supply, wastewater collection and treatment, beneficial reuse of recycled water and biosolids, and storm water management. The department has a $134 million annual operating budget and a $41 million capital improvement budget.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge of: Principles and practices of sustainability; methods of creating and managing public information programs; administrative principles and methods, including supervision, leadership, project planning and program management; principles and practices of effective supervision and staff development; laws and regulatory codes applicable to sustainability, water-use efficiency, energy conservation and renewables; grant writing and administration; budget preparation and monitoring.

Water Use Efficiency: Principles and practices of water-use efficiency, related planning and management, including water use analysis and forecasting; embedded energy in water; green building standards; low impact development standards; techniques and equipment used in irrigation and water distribution; operation of various water-saving devices; water-use efficient landscaping, irrigation practices, and drought-tolerant planting; California Urban Water Conservation Council’s Best Management Practices.

Ability to: Analyze data on water/energy consumption and renewable energy production; use computer forecasting and water/energy planning tools; conduct water/energy audits; identify measures that target inefficient use; analyze water/energy related legislation; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; make effective, professional presentations to a wide variety of audiences, such as community groups, schools, businesses and public commissions; write and create technical publications, reports, grants, training curricula, graphs, brochures and other materials to inform and persuade the public about sustainability related topics; develop and administer programs that involve community participation; establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinate staff, peers, professional associates, policy making bodies and with the general public; supervise, train, coach and evaluate subordinate personnel.

Experience and Education: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience – Sufficient years of responsible experience in water/energy supply, renewable energy or water/energy-use efficiency program work, including supervisory experience, to demonstrate possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above; Education – Equivalent to a BS or BA degree from an accredited college with major course work in public or business administration, public relations, communications, environmental engineering, environmental studies, landscaping, water supply, renewable energy or closely related field. An AA or AS degree in environmental studies, landscaping, or water supply can be qualifying if it is supplemented by additional experience in water conservation work.

Key Accountabilities

Qualifications/Requirements

Sustainability Coordinator

The Sustainability Coordinator plays a pivotal role in advancing the city’s commitment to environmental stewardship. The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for providing support to the Sustainability Analyst for the implementation of the Climate Action Plan. This position will be responsible for research, data collection, metric development and monitoring, and assisting with staff and community partner education and engagement initiatives that promote local sustainability.
