Offshore Wind Policy Intern

The American Clean Power Association (ACP) is the leading voice of today’s multi-tech clean energy industry, representing over 800 energy storage, wind, utility-scale solar, green hydrogen and transmission companies. ACP is committed to meeting America’s national security, economic and climate goals with fast-growing, low-cost, and reliable domestic power.

ACP is proud to offer a summer internship program which runs for approximately 10 weeks from June 5th through August 16th. These positions are required to work on a hybrid office schedule out of our Washington, DC headquarters and as such, applicants much be local to the DC area or able to relocate to DC for the 10-week period. Internships are paid $20/hour on a semimonthly pay schedule.

Position Overview:

The Offshore Wind Policy Intern will be working on a wide range of offshore wind policy issues related to ensuring a clear and predictable federal permitting process for offshore wind, creating sustainable commercial framework through policy solutions at the state and federal level, and strengthen public and political support for offshore wind projects. Their daily tasks will include:

Working on offshore wind related research to support the greater offshore wind department and ACP’s policy team.
The development of fact sheets.
Administrative items including taking notes during meetings, preparing meeting summaries, and assisting with other meeting related tasks.
Assisting with analysis of offshore wind impacts on the marine ecosystem.

Qualifications & Skills:

Preferred applicants should be a current student attending an accredited university currently seeking to major or minor in political science, engineering, environmental science, environmental policy, or energy. Applications should ideally have a strong interest in renewable energy and solutions to climate change. Someone with familiarity in marine sciences is preferred to assist in analysis of offshore wind impacts on the marine ecosystem and the creation of white papers and fact sheets based on that analysis.

Renewable Energy Project Developer

The Project Developer will organize and manage multiple projects in Alaska and contribute to efforts around the world. This position will entail several development activities including schedules and deadlines, site characterization, modeling, permitting and licensing and stakeholder outreach. This role will be a critical member of a high-performing, skilled, multi-disciplinary team, fostering collaboration, driving innovation, identifying opportunities for team growth, and delivering efficiencies. The successful candidate will have the ability to rigorously apply basic science concepts, and the ability to use communication skills to mediate interactions among engineering staff, scientific and non-scientific governmental and regulatory agencies, and the general public. Areas of technical expertise which will be considered useful include: environmental science (physical and biological), oceanography, and civil or environmental engineering.
Essential Skills and Responsibilities:

Manage the implementation, adoption and refinement of Alaska project development and operations processes with particular focus on project milestones and operations processes with particular focus on project milestones and schedules

Energy Campaigns Coordinator

The Energy Campaigns Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the organization’s plans for the deployment of and legislative support of clean energy in Indiana. The Coordinator will cover a wide array of policy arenas and interface with diverse stakeholders, including REMCs, heavy industry, frontline communities, construction interests, labor unions, ratepayers, and the legislative and executive branches, with the guidance and support of the Executive Director.

The goal of Indiana Conservation Voters and its family of organizations is to ensure that Indiana’s elected officials are held accountable to Hoosiers who deserve clean energy, water and air. We envision an Indiana where the voices of voters, impacted communities, and future generations are centered, and where a new movement of engaged Hoosiers demand that their government prioritizes them and the land, air, and water on which they rely.

Duties and responsibilities:

Support coalition efforts to decarbonize heavy industry, through accountability tactics, research communications, and legislation, with a focus on frontline communities, organized labor, and economic development.
Demonstrate a commitment to environmental justice, educate legislative leaders on environmental justice and identify new initiatives.
Execute a plan to educate and train clean energy candidates for and directors of rural electric membership cooperative boards.
Identify clean energy policy’s relationship to political messaging and candidates for state and local office.
Educate select local government leaders on clean energy siting and energy efficiency and electrification in local building ordinances.
Help the Executive Director identify other energy policy verticals in which to expand, such as implementation of select programs from the Inflation Reduction Act, while providing strategic advice and support.

Energy Sustainability Analyst

Summary:

Provides analysis and decision support to assist the Energy Manager with the Forest County Potawatomi Community’s efforts to achieve its goal of becoming 100% energy independent through both energy efficiency and renewable energy generation.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Administers a database of energy use and renewable energy generation for tribal government facilities.
Estimates environmental impacts of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
Provides decision support through financial and economic modeling of energy projects.
Models climate change impacts and mitigations of resilient infrastructure.
Writes or contributes to technical reports and grant applications.
Assists the Energy Manager with additional duties including education, stakeholder engagement, policy analysis, and other topics, as needed.

Campus Sustainability Analyst

Responsible for gathering and analyzing sustainability-related data and ensuring completion of sustainability assessments and reports, the position tracks, benchmarks and analyzes a wide range of metrics related to Lehigh’s operations. This position collaborates and works closely with a number of departments on campus to accurately track and report data and manage projects. What you will be doing:

Conduct home energy assessments in residential homes, entering attics, basements and crawl spaces
Perform initial air leakage testing, and visual inspection of existing equipment within the home.
Investigate main drivers of energy consumption in a given home.
Install instant savings measures such as light emitting diodes (LEDs), showerheads and other energy savings devices

Community Energy Educator

The Community Energy Educator will primarily assist with the teaching of energy efficiency and clean energy education programs in the Mohawk Valley Region, specifically in Oneida, Herkimer, Schoharie, Otsego, Fulton and Montgomery Counties. This position is also responsible for working as a team member and provides input to his/her/their supervisor on implementation and evaluation of these energy programs. This position, alongside other Energy Team members, will work to inform residents, multifamily building owners, and small businesses, with an emphasis in low-to-moderate income and priority communities, of the options for adopting clean energy strategies in their homes and businesses.

Work includes assisting in establishing and maintaining relationships and working with community partners and local stakeholders to lend energy efficiency and clean energy programs to more-holistically address energy inequities. This program will deliver information and provide education in a wide variety of settings, including, but not limited to: providing educational tables/booths at community events; presenting before large audiences; making one-on-one phone calls; following up with leads/clients to provide additional information; assist leads/clients with navigating every step of applying for relevant energy efficiency and clean energy programs available to them; helping troubleshoot obstacles to adopting clean energy strategies; coordinating with local energy contractors in providing accurate information on the programs, etc. This position will work with community groups, energy contractors, supervisor and other team members to coordinate and implement engaging educational programs, including assisting with training, engaging or coordinating the work of volunteers and interns in program delivery. This position will also serve as a subject matter resource and carry out administrative tasks that support the educational program and fulfill funding requirements. Program oversight and direction will be provided by the Energy & Environment Team Leader, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County, with additional support and leadership from senior members of the regional Energy team.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education (Associate’s Degree and 2 years of transferrable program/functional experience).

Sustainability Analyst

Summary

The Sustainability Analyst is responsible for supporting the DCHA sustainability team in analyzing energy performance and developing strategic sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency projects. The Sustainability Analyst work will focus on 1) Reporting: site and portfolio reports from data management systems regarding energy consumption and projected consumption based on conservation opportunities; 2) Energy Analysis: analyze properties within the portfolio for trends and anomalies in energy consumption; 3) Sustainability Analysis: analyze waste, recycling, and water trends. This position will also support program development and implementation, and grant and HUD reporting for electrification/efficiency programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assistant Director of Sustainability

The JHU Office of Sustainability is seeking talented candidates to fill the position of Assistant Director of Sustainability. From technical advisement to planning, policy development, academic partnerships, and campus engagement, the Office of Sustainability’s work spans the physical, academic, and cultural environments of JHU. Our office aims to empower students, faculty, and staff to meaningfully contribute to a more just and sustainable world.

The Assistant Director is a multi-faceted leadership role that supports day-to-day management of the Office of Sustainability while providing supervision for multiple team members in areas of campus engagement and community-building initiatives, strategic communications, coordination of JHU’s Sustainability Leadership Council, and academic partnerships including an emerging Campus as Living Laboratory program.

This position works closely with the Director of Sustainability to establish and manage office systems and cross-functional team collaboration that enhance the impact of a growing ten-person team, while also providing direction for strategic partnerships and governance that advance the integration of sustainability across schools and divisions in support of JHU’s Climate Action and Sustainability Plan goals.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Provide leadership and support for the day-to-day operations of the JHU Office of Sustainability.
Provide supervision and strategic guidance to team members including the Sustainability Program Manager, Sustainability Communications Associate, and Sr. Sustainability Specialist whose primary responsibilities entail campus engagement and community-building initiatives, academic collaborations, and strategic communications functions of the office.
In collaboration with the Director, develops and articulates job expectations for staff, provides strategic decision-making that enhances cross-functional team collaboration and process standardization, and contributes to performance evaluations, staff development plans, and input into personnel decisions.
Serve as a lead planner for coalition-building between the Office of Sustainability and university stakeholders to support the integration of JHU’s Climate Action and Sustainability Plan priorities into schools and divisional action plans; provide guidance for the development of school and divisional action plans as needed.
Develop meeting plans and facilitate meetings with school and divisional sustainability staff outside the office’s core team to cultivate relationships, share replicable best practices, and develop scalable solutions that lead to the adoption and integration of sustainability practices throughout the university.
Provide strategic guidance for the Sustainability Leadership Council, a university leadership body responsible for bringing together staff, faculty, and students to advise university leaders on sustainability priorities and practices to achieve the university’s goals; serve on interdisciplinary committees as a subject matter expert and facilitator as needed.
Provide strategic direction for office’s communications and marketing functions including content development, audience strategy, design and branding, and analytics.
Provide strategic direction for sustainability programs, conferences, events, and initiatives that foster community-building, environmental education and literacy, and behavior change; including oversight for the implementation of a new Campus as Living Laboratory program.
Provide strategic direction for the Office of Sustainability’s Internship Program, to provide undergraduate and graduate students employment opportunities in advancing campus sustainability solutions.
Develop strategies and plans to enhance community partnerships and alignment between the university’s sustainability goals and those of the greater Baltimore and Washington, D.C. region. Serve on regional committees to advance partnerships as necessary.
Work with the Director to develop and manage budgets, including forecasting, monitoring, and reporting.
Represent the Office of Sustainability on university project teams and in presentations to stakeholders; step in as proxy for the Director on as needed basis.

Familiarity with complex, interdisciplinary sustainability issues with a focus on the built environment and natural environment, decarbonization and climate resilience, green building practices, transportation and mobility, circularity and zero waste, food systems, etc.
