Summary: Consistent with Herb Pharm’s history of delivering the highest quality and sustainability-focused herbal medicines, this position is intrinsic to Herb Pharm’s ongoing mission of “taking care of plants, so they can take care of people.â€ The Sustainability Manager is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of company-wide sustainability and environmental strategies, policies, and training. This position is essential for providing directional development on environmental regulatory compliance and supporting continuous improvement toward sustainability goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: include the following, other duties may be assigned:

Manage key sustainability performance metrics and communicate those throughout the company, including Pacific Botanicals and Mushroom Harvest.
Implement environmental compliance policies internally by supporting the creation of and maintaining training and informational tools.
Support continuous improvement toward sustainability targets by managing data for goal setting, building a system for sharing best practices, and supporting the implementation of sustainability projects throughout the company.
Create, interpret, and execute a budget with reporting updates to the CFO regularly.
Develop and author annual sustainability reports.
Prepares documentation required for project funding for various environmental initiatives including proposals and grant applications.
Drafts and prepares reports, presentations, and proposals; presents proposals and recommendations to the CFO, board of directors, and other key stakeholders.
Coordinate and ensure compliance with environmental policies, regulations, and permitting.
Completes all required US Government mandatory surveys.
Engage with key internal and external stakeholders, such as facility personnel, company management, and governmental agencies.
Leadership in creating a regenerative culture; including implementation of training programs and true cost accounting, responsible sourcing, and social equity.
Coordinate and oversee B Corp Certification process.
Coordinate and administer Regenerative Organic Certification process.
Report metrics needed for Regenerative Organic Certification process.
Ensures that Herb Pharm is practicing earth-friendly purchasing policies by tracking the status of rare or protected plant species purchased and monitors the status of wild herbs that are being cultivated.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Understand the basic concepts of conservation and sustainable development, including energy conservation, waste management, resource conservation, water conservation, and environmental reporting metrics.
Basic understanding of federal environmental regulatory requirements.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge of current trends, best practices, and developments in the profession/industry.
Ability to communicate with governmental regulatory agencies.
Assists with efficient team operation and continuous process improvement, by participating actively in all team and departmental meetings as requested.
Regularly leads and/or assists with special projects as directed.
Well organized, with the ability to set priorities and meet reasonable deadlines.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field.
Five+ years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in the natural foods industry is required.
Demonstrated record of successful implementation of sustainability programs.
Experience utilizing ERP systems, MRP programs, and good practices for supply planning.

Sustainable Transportation Coordinator

Participate in local, regional, and national transportation planning and development efforts in association with other colleges and universities, community groups, CATMA, municipalities and professional groups.
Miscellaneous
Supports campus operations, including Office of Sustainability, Mail Center, and other duties as assigned.
Facilitate Transportation Committee meetings as needed.

Collaborate with a diverse global team to develop certified nature-based solutions (NBS) projects including reforestation, agroforestry, and mangrove restoration.
Lead technical aspects of all phases of project design including Project Idea Notes, Feasibility Studies, and Project Design Documents for major carbon standards.
Provide support to partners on site eligibility assessments, quantifying carbon yields and assessing eligibility parameters.
Coordinate the work of third-party technical partners collaborating on various projects.
Assist with field surveys to quantify baseline stocks and emissions scenarios.
Elaborate reports and evaluate third party ones related to monitoring, reporting, and verification of carbon sequestration, socio-economic development, and biodiversity enhancement.
Serve as a trusted knowledge resource on carbon sequestration modeling and major carbon standards, for our organization as well as our partners.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s degree in an environmental science discipline; a Forestry degree is a plus.
5+ years in project management, research, and/or field practice related to forest carbon/NBS.
Good understanding and practice of biomass sequestration modeling.
Experience working with carbon standards and methodologies (specially Verra and Gold Standard)
Familiarity with tools such as remote sensing, statistical software, programming languages, and automation. Quality data management and processing is essential.
Fluent in English. Professional competency in other major languages is a plus.

Minimum of 2 years of experience managing environmental projects or studies, or in design or construction involving multiple phases of large-scale building/rehabilitation projects that implement sustainable solutions.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a role of Project Manager responsible for large-scale projects valued above $10 million, with an extensive knowledge of all facets of construction and construction documents
A master’s degree or higher in a qualifying field may substitute for one year of the required experience. Envision, Well Building or LEED certification is a plus.

Energy Conservation Specialist

Job Summary:

The Energy Conservation Specialist plays a vital role in promoting energy efficiency and sustainability by conducting energy audits for residential properties. This role involves performing a range of tasks to identify energy-saving opportunities, coordinate weatherization efforts, and facilitate communication between homeowners, tenants, and contractors. The Energy Conservation Specialist will also support government compliance, maintain client records, and contribute to the overall mission of promoting a more sustainable environment.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities:

Conduct Department of Energy and utility company energy audits, including heat loss calculations, blower door tests, and combustion efficiency tests.
Perform inspections of heating systems and burner codes to ensure safety and compliance.
Estimate job costs, calculate attic and wall insulation square footage, and determine attic ventilation requirements.
Evaluate heating system efficiency, perform carbon monoxide testing, and adhere to A.S.H.R.A.E. ventilation standards.
Conduct blower door and Zonal pressure testing.
Allocate job assignments to contractors on a rotational basis.
Act as a liaison between property owners and tenants to assist in completing support documents.
Maintain accurate client files to track progress and ensure compliance.
Perform on-site inspections and quality control visits as needed and accompany officials on on-site visits.

Community Engagement Coordinator

The position will depend on deep relational organizing and leadership identification and development with climate and community activists and organizations at the intersection of racial, climate, and economic injustice.

Sustainability Educator

Sonoma Academy is an independent high school located in Santa Rosa, CA on a 34-acre campus, surrounded by 1,000 acres of protected open space, at the base of Taylor Mountain. Founded in 2001, it provides an engaging, challenging, and innovative college preparatory education and a supportive community for motivated learners from Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Lake, and Mendocino counties. The school currently serves 330 students in grades 9 through 12 and is increasing its enrollment each year. Of our 330 students, over 30% self-identify as students of color, and our students come from 80+ middle schools, ensuring a broad mixture of students from all over the greater North Bay Area.

Sustainability Educator Key Responsibilities:

This Sustainability Educator is a faculty member instructing classes, including but not limited to Environmental Science and Civic Engagement, and leading the Environmental Stewardship Concentration. Sonoma Academy’s students have been deeply engaged with local, state, and national lawmakers to address the climate crisis, and this position will continue the spirit of that work as the facilitator for the student-led advocacy group. In addition, the successful candidate will also have responsibilities that may include leading Exploratories, Intersession, Advisory, and Clubs as well as chaperoning trips, retreats, and student events.

Compensation:

Sonoma Academy has a multi-step salary scale in place for faculty members that includes differentials for advanced degrees and annual guaranteed step increases. The current salary scale ranges from $75,000 to $144,000. The school will evaluate the faculty member’s relevant teaching experience and they will be placed on the scale at the appropriate level upon hiring.

Director of the Institute of Environmental Science and Sustainability

Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) invites applications for the position of the inaugural Director of the Institute of Environmental Science and Sustainability (IESS), a position equivalent to a department chair. The initial appointment will not involve any direct faculty supervisory duties. The Director will be appointed as a full-time faculty member in the School of Science and Technology and will be encouraged to remain active as a scholar and teacher, with strategic leadership of the Institute as their top priority. The Director reports to the dean of the School of Science and Technology. This is a renewable administrative faculty position (e.g., a 12-month schedule), with a start date of July 1, 2024.

The IESS has been designed to include faculty and staff from across the College. It currently consists of 11 faculty affiliates who hold interdisciplinary appointments across two GGC Schools, with expertise in five disciplines, and it offers baccalaureate degrees in Environmental Science with natural and social science concentrations. The interdisciplinary structure of the Institute mirrors best practices in sustainability education as it guides students toward a holistic understanding of the geographical, ecological, cultural, chemical, economic, and policy elements that are critical for a complete understanding of a sustainable environment.

The Director will lead the Institute alongside a faculty rank Academic Coordinator, with the support of the Environmental Science faculty affiliates.

The inaugural Director is responsible for strategically leading the Institute, shaping its mission and vision, recruiting engaged faculty and students interested in the Institute¿s work and degree programs, while overseeing administrative operations of the Institute. Working with the Institute¿s faculty affiliates, the Director must have the capability to effectively manage budgets and facilities (including a microfarm), oversee curriculum development, secure external grants, and carry out other Institute leadership functions. The Director will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and maintain a wide range of campus and community programming, events, and outreach to drive student enrollment, program growth, and innovation.

Sustainability Operations Specialist

The Office of Sustainability serves the University of Southern California and the greater community by helping to institutionalize sustainability throughout the University. JOB SUMMARY

As a member of the sustainability team and in partnership with stakeholders, the Sustainability Operations Specialist will play a crucial role in the planning, organization, and delivery of specialized services and activities to advance sustainability initiatives and drive positive change at USC. The Sustainability Operations Specialist will facilitate change management primarily across campus operations while further enhancing the university’s academic, research, and community engagement missions.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Create and develop comprehensive processes, policies, toolkits, behavioral programs, and communication strategies to advance USC’s operational sustainability initiatives.
Utilize STARS data, institutional benchmarks, and best practices to identify sustainability opportunities and challenges specific to USC and support the implementation of innovative solutions.
Assess the effectiveness of existing programs, make recommendations for improvement, and implement necessary modifications to ensure climate neutrality, zero waste, and other Assignment: Earth goals are achieved.
Develop key performance metrics and establish data collection processes to measure the effectiveness of sustainability solutions to ensure continuous improvement.
Overcome sustainability challenges in a decentralized environment through influence and collaboration rather than relying on formal authority.
Cultivate relationships with a diverse array of faculty, staff, students, and external partners to build cross-functional coalitions to to promote sustainability initiatives at USC and beyond.
Establish confidence, cooperation, and consensus among stakeholders through exceptional communication and adept project coordination.
Support efforts related to experiential learning for students and faculty research in operational sustainability initiatives and goals.
Support administrative functions, including program planning, budgeting, proposal development, marketing, engagement, reporting, student intern supervision, special events, and other duties as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for the position has the following qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field.
Experience leading efforts to reduce nonrenewable resources and minimize environmental impact in large corporate environments.
Direct experience in sustainability within a higher education environment. Proven experience in operational consulting within a cross-matrixed or decentralized environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate for the position must meet the following qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree
Directly related professional experience in project management, program coordination and/or sustainable operations.
Experience with sustainability efforts (e.g., energy and waste management, resource conservation, recycling). Ability to work with minimal supervision and guidance. Proficient in
Microsoft Office and other relevant software. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
