Primary Responsibilities:
• Lead and coordinate engineering functions of “Reduce” sustainability programs.
• Assess factory capital projects to determine environmental/sustainability needs and provide necessary support during the conceptual design phase.
• Assist facilities with data accuracy and reporting, including emission inventories, waste prevention, energy efficiency, water usage, and discharge monitoring reports.
• Develop sustainability onboarding programs, strategies, and standards for the company and individual operating facilities, staying updated on mandatory targets and company directives.
• Coordinate activities of environmental/sustainability engineering consultants, reviewing actions required at facilities and providing necessary support.
• Drive corporate sustainability initiatives in manufacturing and effectively communicate direction and results to executive leadership through reporting tools and data systems.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental, Civil, or equivalent
• 8+ years’ experience in Engineering/Environmental Sustainability, preferably in a manufacturing consulting environment, with a focus on reducing utility compliance or related discipline

The approximate pay range for this position is $132,000 to $178,000. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Deputy Director, Department of Environmental Protection

Montgomery County, Maryland is seeking a Deputy Director for its Department of Environmental Protection.

Montgomery County, located adjacent to Washington, DC, has over one million residents and is one of Maryland’s most populous and affluent counties. The Department of Environmental Protection leads the County’s efforts for a range of environmental programs, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enforcing laws and regulations related to air and water pollution, and managing resource recovery and solid waste management facilities. The Department is supported by 207 employees and a Capital Improvement Program budget of $350 million.

Reporting to the Department of Environmental Protection Director, the Deputy Director is responsible for shaping and implementing complex environmental programs for the County. The position serves, along with the Director, as the senior environmental manager, with responsibilities for steering the alignment and integration of strategies for the environment, recycling and solid waste services, and climate change. This is an appointed, non-merit position in the County Government.

This position requires a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in public policy, Public or Business Administration or related areas; and seven (7) years of extensive professional experience in the planning and management of complex public policy programs, including state public policy, environmental programs or related areas. At least four (4) years in a senior managerial or supervisory capacity which included responsibility for fund and budget administration, program planning, implementation, and administration is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

The starting salary is highly competitive, up to $213,394, depending upon the background and qualifications of the successful candidate. Manager, Energy and Sustainability

SUMMARY: Provide operational oversight and manage utility (energy and water) consumption and waste reduction throughout the district in a way that meets current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Job Tasks Descriptions
1. Develop, maintain and lead the execution of the District Sustainability Management Plan. Identify and lead the execution of operational initiatives and construction projects aimed at minimizing utility consumption and waste generation. Provide expert advice and program support to sustainability efforts, including educational pursuits, in district schools.
2. Lead and direct the work of district sustainability staff, consulting engineers and equipment suppliers. Resolve complex technical issues and identify control system and other innovations to ensure comfort, manage utility costs and avoid air quality issues.
3. Manage Utility Budget, including validation and review of electricity, natural gas, water, and waste metrics and costs.

5. Manage energy and sustainability-related construction projects including but not limited to, creating scope-of-work, schedule and budget through the use of district information technology systems. Utilize contracted engineers, historical costs, estimating manuals and contractor bids and proposals to ensure budget estimates are accurate. Measure progress towards the goal and objective and take corrective steps to achieve or exceed the same.
6. Evaluate construction and installation process of projects to ensure compliance with established criteria such as code, specifications and plans.
7. Prepare and monitor utility budgets, approve expenditures.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management, environmental health, sustainability, or related field.
• Five (5) years of experience in managing sustainability programs, preference given for experience in the facility management and/or K-12 sector.
• Demonstrated experience managing construction projects including developing and executing scope-of-work, schedule and budget.
• Demonstrated experience managing, monitoring, trouble-shooting, and informing design on K-12 building utility systems including HVAC, passive and active solar energy systems, and distribution systems for electricity, water, and natural gas.
• Experience with preventive building automation systems, energy management software, resource monitoring, and other benchmarking practices.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
• Valid Colorado driver’s license.
• Association of Energy Engineers Certified Energy Manager professional certification required within twenty-four (24) months after hire.
• US Green Building Council LEED AP or Fellow certification preferred.

Planning & Sustainability Manager

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Manager of the Department of Planning & Sustainability will be responsible for leading the City’s Sustainability Programs, Resiliency Initiatives and Projects, as well as the Comprehensive Planning and Zoning decisions. The Manager will be responsible for the supervision of three staff members, which includes a Naturalist, Environmental Scientist II, and the City Planner. The Manager will also be responsible for being a staff liaison to the Sustainability Board, the Planning Advisory Board and the Board of Adjustment. This position reports to the Assistant City Manager and the City Manager.

PRIMARY AND ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITES:

Manage the City’s Sustainably Action Plan and associated projects.

Chief Environmental Officer

Assistant Professor- Sustainability

The Department of Chemistry at Rutgers University – Camden invites applications from a diverse group of candidates for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position, which is scheduled to begin on September 1, 2024. This tenure-track position is at the Assistant Professor level and is open to scientists whose research interests address issues pertaining to broad aspects of Sustainability. The research on sustainable forensic technologies or environmental forensic sciences are also encouraged to apply. The candidate is expected to establish an externally funded research program and participate in the Chemistry Department’s undergraduate and graduate teaching mission. Assistant Professor – Sustainability

The School of Economic, Political and Policy Science (EPPS) at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Sustainability.

Assistant Professor, Sustainability

Position Description: The George Washington University (GWU) seeks to hire a scholar with broad interests in sustainability from an interdisciplinary perspective, someone who conducts research and teaches in sustainability and will contribute to GWU’s transdisciplinary and policy-relevant research around sustainability. This position will begin as early as Fall 2024.

Areas of expertise could include (but are not limited to) economic development, energy, communication, global environmental change, climate change, biodiversity, the food-energy-water nexus, public health, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The successful candidate will have some experience in and be expected to teach undergraduate courses in sustainability or environmental studies, including an introductory course on sustainability, and will be able to develop new undergraduate courses in their area of expertise. Lecturer, School of Environmental Sustainability

Loyola University Chicago’s (LUC) School of Environmental Sustainability (SES) requests applications for a full time Faculty Lecturer of Environmental Science to begin in August, 2024. The SES particularly encourages individuals of color to apply. This is a non-tenure track position, renewable at 3-year intervals, with eligibility for promotion. We seek an environmental scientist or ecologist to teach an important foundational environmental science course required by all non-science LUC majors as well as courses in Soil Ecology, Plants & Civilization and Principles of Ecology Lab in which students are required to use the statistical programming language ‘R’. Opportunities exist for developing a course in the candidates’ area of expertise that would enrich the SES curricula. Lecture sections are generally capped at 40 students. The teaching load for this position is a maximum of 4 sections/semester.
