Energy Manager

Basic Function

Assists the Director of Facilities Maintenance in analyzing current energy usage and developing the authority’s
energy management plan to provide cost effective energy utilization. The Energy Manager helps to develop,
implement, and coordinate policies on matters involving gas and electric energy conservation and procurement.
Assists in the development, maintenance and administration of water, gas and electricity consumption and cost
forecasting models. Works closely with the Director of Facilities Maintenance and Procurement in sourcing,
negotiating, and administering energy supply contracts. Advises the Director of Facilities Maintenance and
other management on the practical and necessary steps to conserve energy. Responsible for the planning,
development, and implementation of maintenance programs for the Administrative Building (High Rise) and
other METRO facilities. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules
and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties

Provides primary managerial direction and performs personnel administrative functions of direct report staff (e.g.,
training, supervising, work assignments, timesheets, performance evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining
necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff and ensuring necessary department outcomes are achieved.
• Assists in developing, coordinating, and implementing the goals and objectives of strategies and policies to reduce
energy consumption, monitoring and reviewing the effectiveness of these policies and strategies; including
coordinating monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports
• Works with the Director of Facilities Maintenance and Procurement in devising policies and systems for buying
energy and helping with contract negotiations.
• Provides technical and practical advice and offers training on energy efficiency
• Manages energy related projects and initiatives, as well as miscellaneous projects as directed by the Director of
Facilities Maintenance.
• Develops promotional activities and materials to publicize schemes.
• Contributes to sustainable development initiatives.
• Liaises and negotiates with contractors, building supply industry, council services and other relevant organizations
• Ensures accurate records are maintained and energy monitoring data is collected regularly
• Prepares specifications, drawings and tender documents for building services, improvement or plant replacement
work, including obtaining statutory approvals
• Liaises with and provides technical support to mechanical/electrical design engineers on new and refurbishment
projects regarding sustainability, energy and water conservation
• Conducts site inspections and energy audits
• Prepares detailed schedules of work/feasibility studies and cost estimates
• Benchmarks energy consumptions against best practice guidelines
• Plans, develops and implements maintenance programs and plan capital projects for the Administrative Building
(High Rise) and other property owned by METRO.

Sustainable Housing Senior Manager

National Housing Trust (NHT) has been dedicated to creating and preserving affordable housing for over 30 years. Our mission is to create and preserve affordable homes to provide opportunity, advance racial equity, reduce economic disparities, and strengthen community resilience through our integrated policy-plus-practice approach. We build, preserve, finance, and/or manage more than 4,000 affordable housing units across the mid-Atlantic region, and use that expertise to inform and advance resident-focused solutions to strengthen the broader affordable housing industry.

NHT has a staff of 50 across five program areas: Policy, Lending, Real Estate Development, Community Outreach and Impact, and Energy Solutions. The Sustainable Housing Senior Manager will work with NHT’s Policy team of talented and passionate advocates who engage with national and state coalitions to advance clean energy and climate resilience policy solutions that serve historically marginalized and under-resourced communities of color. The team is currently working to ensure equitable program implementation and access to clean energy funds through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and other federal programs.

POSITION

The Sustainable Housing Senior Manager is an opportunity to play a direct role in implementing technical and financial assistance efforts for affordable housing providers to develop healthier, environmentally sustainable multifamily housing. The role involves both policy and practice to advance informed and tested solutions at the intersection of affordable housing, health, climate change, and equity. More specifically, the Senior Manager will support a grant-funded pilot initiative in Washington, D.C., providing direct technical assistance to affordable multifamily building owners to fund and undertake decarbonization and healthy housing building improvements. The Senior Manager will assist in recruiting building owners to participate in the project and will build and maintain relationships with them and related project partners.

The Sustainable Housing Senior Manager will also contribute to grant proposal writing efforts that allow NHT to broaden our reach and leadership established through policy and programs.

This position is ideally DC-based and qualifies for a hybrid work schedule, working a minimum of two days per week at NHT’s corporate office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Providing Technical Assistance

Help building owners identify and secure grants and rebates to pay for building upgrades, write proposals, and collect required information to apply for funding;
Help building owners understand design recommendations to reduce energy consumption, support decarbonization, and promote healthy housing;
Assist building owners in ensuring that building improvements are implemented successfully, including helping identify contractors and prepare bids for soliciting contractor proposals
Collect pre- and post-retrofit data to document energy and health performance outcomes and summarize outcomes to inform the affordable housing industry

Relationship Management

Assist with outreach to D.C. building owners and help persuade them to undertake high energy performance and healthy housing building upgrades
Coordinate with internal staff and external project partners to manage project deliverables, milestones, and timelines efficiently
Coordinate with project partners to ensure strategic alignment, information sharing, data collection/tracking, and strategic planning
Maintain relationships with project funders, including administrators of key D.C.-based funding programs, such as DCSEU and utility program administrators
Manage timely and accurate communications and reports with clients as well as project funders, government officials, and others as required
Contribute to grant writing efforts for related activities to be undertaken by NHT
Coordinate internally with other NHT teams to apply full organizational capacities to the projects, especially related to resident engagement and deployment of sustainable building technologies

Advance Best Practices

Help document lessons learned to educate the wider field, including by participating in national webinars, drafting blog posts, and speaking on conference panels
Assist with developing program design recommendations for future technical assistance efforts related to IRA implementation, based on lessons learned in grant-funded decarbonization activities
Document and disseminate outcomes to demonstrate the benefits of retrofits that bring decarbonization to residents of affordable housing

COMPENSATION

Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience. The minimum, median, and maximum salary range for this position is $80,000, $106,600, and $133,300, respectively.

Sustainable Practices and Communications Manager

The Sustainable Practices and Communications Manager will support the Division of Sustainability’s goal to increase energy and water efficiency and decrease waste and greenhouse gas emissions across Metro Government operations. As part of a small, collaborative team, this position will design and implement strategies that measurably advance this goal. The ideal candidate must be a motivated and dynamic professional with excellent decision-making and interpersonal abilities and the ability to skillfully manage concurrent projects. Flexibility, reliability, and a commitment to excellence are required.

The position will oversee Socket: Nashville’s Sustainability Outlet, ideate and implement strategic sustainable behavior change initiatives, measure and report program results (both qualitative and quantitative), and conduct research to inform recommendations for continuous improvement and best practices across a range of sustainability topics.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule that includes both remote and in-office work.

Typical Duties

Refine and implement the Division of Sustainability’s outreach strategy and support communications-related activities of the Department of General Services.
Create and share content across a variety of platforms to promote Metro Nashville’s sustainability activities. This includes giving presentations, maintaining a website, writing a blog, creating e-newsletters, managing social media, and planning and executing educational events.
Develop and implement research-based behavior change programs – using a Community Based Social Marketing framework – that inspire sustainable behaviors in Metro employees and visitors.
Lead MetroConnect, a program of interactive tours led by and for Metro Government employees showcasing sustainable and innovative projects.
Monitor and research local, state, and national sustainability policies and trends and analyze how they might negatively or positively impact the work of the Division.
Identify, apply for, and manage grants related to energy efficiency, green building, renewable energy, and electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.
Collaborate with Metro Government staff both within and outside Department of General Services to identify and pursue opportunities to increase operational efficiency and environmental stewardship. This includes energy and water conservation, solid waste reduction and diversion, green building practices, greenhouse gas reduction, and decarbonization.
Seek out and apply for awards, recognition, and speaking opportunities that showcase the achievements of the Division of Sustainability and Metro Government as a whole.
For all programs and projects, monitor and evaluate progress against established metrics; use data to reinforce best practices and/ or course correct as necessary.

As part of promoting sustainability activities, will be required to attend occasional events which may take place outside normal business hours – on weeknights or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in any field. Especially relevant fields include but are not limited to: psychology, biology, sociology, environmental/ climate studies, marketing, and communications. Five (5) years of professional experience in sustainability, environmental science, behavior change, communications, education, or related areas.

Director of Energy and Sustainability

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Director of Energy and Sustainability within the Office of Facilities Management.

The Director of Energy & Sustainability position is responsible for development of the district’s Energy Management Plan (“EMPâ€) and the identification of energy savings as well as the management of projects impacting energy usage including solar, ice storage, boilers, chillers, unit vents, cooling towers, steam traps and distribution systems. The EMP includes an energy policy, energy goals, operating procedures, and baseline, benchmarking, evaluation and monitoring procedures as well as the efficient and effective delivery of projects and training of operational staff. This position is responsible for the overall coordination of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, general construction and scheduling of maintenance and repair requirements of the school district as related to International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and/or as otherwise directed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
2. A current DOE issued CEFM certification.
3. Hold a Sustainability Facility Professional, SFP designation or equivalent acceptable to the Executive Director.
4. Ten (10) years demonstrated experience in mechanical system operation and technical troubleshooting related services relating to HVAC, solar and energy stainability in a school district with a multitude of buildings over 3 million square feet total and have a minimum of a NJ Black Seal license.
5. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students especially in STEM programs, staff, administration, parents and the community.
6. Demonstrate the ability to use computers for word processing, data management, and telecommunications and be familiar with School Dude facility software and enterprise utility management programs.
7. Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist with the development of a communication plan, the creation of a school district energy team and experience obtaining Energy Star certifications.
2. Oversee ongoing review of the district’s facilities to identify cost reducing measures from implementation of energy efficiency initiatives utilizing technical resources provided by the BPU and State Energy Office.
3. Participate in professional development opportunities to better understand the relationship between energy management, school districts and its relationship to educational, financial and environmental goals and objectives.
4. Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the district utility management program. Develops and implements short and long-range utility management goals and objectives. Recommends policies and procedures for effective, efficient, and economical district operations.
5. Develops and manages annual utility budget of approximately $17 million. Monitors changes in the laws related to utilities that affect the district budget and operations.
6. Develops utility management measures related to building heating/cooling, electrical usage, efficient irrigation practices, reclaimed water, and potable water conservation. Coordinates implementation of the utility management program with all district site administrators.
7. Studies and analyzes utilization of utilities and coordinates and reviews energy audits at each school plant and ancillary facility. Maintains utility consumption records and computerized database for all district facilities. Compiles, reviews, and analyzes utility data. Prepares reports relating to utility management operations and program performance. Regularly disseminates utility consumption reports, conservation methods, and results to administrators, employees, parents, and the public.
8. Participates in renovation and new construction projects concerning the design of school & support facilities to ensure maximum resource efficiency and sustainable building practices. Ensures that air conditioning conversion projects provide the most cost effective and environmentally designed and construction. Optimizes the use of centralized energy & water control systems and real time monitoring of these utilities.
9. Collaborates with the Maintenance, Building Managers and Design and Construction Divisions for implementing measures to reduce utility usage and improve efficiency. Provides staff training and makes regular inspection of facilities for implementation of utility management measures.
10. Negotiates the purchase of electricity, natural gas, water, recycling services & refuse collection. Secures an electrical supply contract in a deregulated market. Compiles load profiles for eligible accounts, develops an RFP for prospective vendors, & manages reverse auction procurement and the awarded contract.
11. Promotes renewable energy and water resources whenever appropriate. Identifies opportunities for collaboration with other agencies and community partners to implement and promote Energy Smart Schools. Coordinates and manages District energy partnerships with local, state and federal agencies. Serves as the Rebuild America Program local contact.
12. Develops positive awards and publicity for successful resource management measures initiated by students, teachers, administrators, and support staff.
13. Coordinates with curriculum and instructional staff to promote use of school facilities as a teaching tool. Utilizes the resources of the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project as an integral part of the energy management program.
14. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
15. Coordinate with professional consultants and various NPS staff the responsibility for the planning engineering, construction and scheduling of MEP construction, maintenance and repair requirements of the districts ESIP, ECM and special projects as assigned.
16. Design and manage the district’s energy conservation program including audits, grants, implementation, initiatives, metrics and reporting.
17. Experience with bidding, contract and procurement practices.
18. Manage third party contracts and ensure compliance to specifications and terms.
19. Plan and manage facility engineering projects defining scope, identifying team members, developing project plans, generating alternatives, obtaining approvals, identifying and securing resources, developing specifications, establishing performance criteria, controlling change order process and evaluation project results.
20. Perform facility functions in compliance with applicable regulations and protect staff health, safety, security, work life quality and the environment.
21. Have knowledge of building infrastructure maintenance, operation and automation tools including electrical, mechanical, HVAC life safety and security systems.
22. Provide technical support on issues related to MEP building operations to the supervisors in other departments.
23. Develop and assist in the implementation of a district wide scheduled and preventive maintenance, energy accounting and building monitoring systems.
24. Work with other consultants and construction management firms providing technical assistance as it relates to the various school facilities.
25. Provide “in-houseâ€ technical resources and expertise for the development of MEP contract documents for bidding and construction administration on special projects.
26. Develop implementation plans and cost estimates for all special projects related to operations and maintenance district wide.
27. Develop computer-aided–design and other computer resources to maximize the efficiency, long term planning and record keeping of the department.
28. Oversee the district’s plan archives.
29. Provide technical support and input into the development and administration of an in-service training program for district staff members on engineering and building operation related issues.
30. Operate electronic and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Planning and Program Administration

The Executive Director is responsible for leading and managing the Office of Sustainability staff and an associated budget of $827,000, with additional endowed fund management. The Office consists of six full time administrative staff (including one post-graduate fellow), and part-time staff for special projects with duties ranging across curricular, co-curricular and organizational efforts toward implementation of the sustainability action plan. Staffing also includes part-time student employees to support student-facing initiatives and programs.
Through the Office’s Campus as Lab program, the Executive Director supports campus- and community-based student research efforts, as well as limited faculty research funded by either the Office-administered High Meadows Foundation Sustainability Fund or in collaboration with other departments and funding sources.
The Executive Director periodically updates the University’s strategic approach to sustainability and associated goals by integrating key recommendations from both internal and external experts and stakeholders. The Executive Director manages an ongoing process that evolves comprehensive evidence-based sustainability goals and metrics, also drawing on academic research and innovation.
The Executive Director provides leadership on the integration of sustainability process and practice across all campus planning efforts, in partnership with the University Architect and the Office of Capital Projects. The Executive Director is also responsible for developing and implementing an integrated sustainability strategy for administrative and academic operations. Part of this responsibility includes the championing of projects or project components with strong culture-change, programmatic, educational and/or research value to the University, in addition to those with environmental, energy, carbon-emissions reduction, and/or financial benefits. A principal role for the Executive Director is as Chair of the Sustainability Advocacy Committee which recommends the allocation of substantial financial resources to improve energy and sustainability performance in capital projects.

Internal and External Partnerships

The Executive Director collaborates with key administrative units across campus to actively implement the University’s sustainability goals. The Executive Director partners with academic and non-academic departments and centers to provide leadership and experiential opportunities for students.
Other partnerships include active engagement with the town of Princeton, through collaboration with the non-profit group Sustainable Princeton, as well as other local entities as appropriate. The Executive Director actively participates in local, state, regional, national, peer, and international networks on behalf of the University. These networks may include the NJ Higher Education Partnership for Sustainability (NJHEPS), the NE Campus Sustainability Consortium (NECSC), the Ivy+ Sustainability Consortium, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), and the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN). Engagement in these networks and others is critical to advancing Princeton’s objective to exchange knowledge and scale effective strategies beyond the campus.

Governance

The Executive Director serves in a key leadership role in University governance processes associated with sustainability and is responsible for associated administrative support needs. These include the monthly Princeton Sustainability Committee (PSC) meetings, biweekly Sustainability Advocacy Committee meetings, and as-needed Sustainability Steering Council and Sustainability Leadership Group meetings. These committees uphold the sustainability principles adopted by the University, assess strategic direction, review and recommend high-level goals, and (where appropriate) review and recommend resource allocations. These duties also include an annual update to the Board of Trustees.
The Executive Director also cultivates distributed leadership across a host of partner organizations across campus, working with senior leadership to operationalize and embed sustainability expertise in critical areas.

Communications

The Executive Director is responsible for advancing sustainability communications both on campus and across the higher education sector, within the context of an ongoing communication planning process. It is expected that diverse communication formats will be employed that root global challenges in place-based local application, including students and the campus community as key audiences.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Sustainability Director (with a focus on energy), your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies for procuring renewable energy resources, identifying and implementing energy conservation and cost savings measures across Alterra’s footprint and overseeing other sustainability projects in furtherance of Alterra’s decarbonization goals. You will play a crucial role in driving the organization’s transition towards 100% renewable energy sources and decarbonization. ESSENTIAL DUTIES

General Responsibilities

Strategy Development: Develop and execute comprehensive energy and sustainability strategies aligned with the organization’s sustainability goals. Identify opportunities for cost savings, risk mitigation, and increased renewable energy utilization across the Alterra portfolio of resorts.

Supplier Management: Identify and evaluate renewable energy suppliers, negotiate contracts, and manage relationships to ensure reliable and cost-effective energy supply. Monitor supplier performance, resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement.

Contract Negotiation: Lead contract negotiations with suppliers, ensuring favorable terms, pricing, and service level agreements. Collaborate with legal and finance teams to ensure contracts are compliant, mitigate risks, and protect the organization’s interests.

Project Management: Support the development and execution of decarbonization and other sustainability projects, energy conservation projects and/or renewable energy projects, such as solar, wind, biomass, and geothermal. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Michigan Climate Smart Farm Postdoctoral Fellow

The School for Environment and Sustainability seeks applicants for a postdoctoral research position focusing on creation of a climate smart verification system for sustainable agricultural practices, using a life cycle assessment framework. You will compile available data on changes in greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration associated with improved agricultural practices, work with partners to collect and verify data from farming operations, and collaboratively create and refine a robust tool to verify GHG savings associated with sustainable agricultural management.

You will interface with a collaborative team of researchers within the university, governmental partners, and NGOs who are working together on the Michigan Climate Smart Farm Project, which seeks to accurately measure and verify ecosystem services associated with climate smart agricultural practices.

Sustainability Assistant

MISSION FOCUS: Support the mission of Second Harvest Food Bank by coordinating streams of waste (garbage, compost (2 types), and recyclables (multi stream) to their correct removal location by supervising volunteers in the presorting of bio matter, overseeing the use and maintenance of the various equipment sets involved and reporting totals for calculation monthly.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Receive excess bio matter from the operations team for processing through the product separator.
Coordinating the sorting of the above product into streams considering packaging type and its recyclability using volunteers to help sort.
Run batches of packaged bio matter through the separator as needed and use forward dumper attachment on a forklift to place into collection bins for pick up by Organix.
Clean and maintain product separator as needed.
Oversee colored collection bins on warehouse rail and coordinate their removal to the proper outside collection receptacles at the disposal dock area.
Clean and maintain colored bins.
Clean compactor area weekly.
Collect poundage data for waste streams as assigned.
Maintain a clean, orderly and safe work area at all times
Participate in other Food Bank duties and activities as assigned

Director of Sustainability

The Director of Sustainability leads and drives all aspects of Hallmark Global’s sustainability strategy which is 80% of the enterprise climate goals and strategy. In this role, you will collaborate with directors across the Hallmark Enterprise to develop and execute sustainability strategies, goals, and metrics. You will serve as the subject matter expert to advise the sustainability owners and their teams at the company on best practices in sustainability and on possible initiatives in support of the company’s sustainability strategy. This role drives the development of a culture of sustainability within Hallmark Global, including oversight of leadership development, employee training and internal communication related to sustainability.
