Sustainable Waste Supervisor

The Sustainable Waste Supervisor will lead Yale University’s waste management, recycling, and composting programs, advancing the University’s sustainability goals through innovative and efficient waste reduction practices. This role oversees daily operations related to waste collection and diversion, ensures compliance with environmental and safety regulations, and develops strategies that promote responsible resource management across campus.
The ideal candidate will be a results-driven professional with a strong background in solid waste operations, recycling systems, composting, and sustainable materials management. They will collaborate closely with Facilities, Environmental Health & Safety, and the Office of Sustainability to design and implement programs that minimize waste, improve recycling and composting efficiency, and engage the Yale community in sustainable practices.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Proven ability to supervise and coordinate daily grounds maintenance services. Demonstrated ability with waste management and recycling initiatives.
2. Well-developed supervisory skills including demonstrated ability with coaching and performance feedback.
3. Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all organizational levels.
4. Proven ability to maintain, manage and prepare scheduling, word processing, and spreadsheet documents and reports. Proficiency with software tools such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and database computer programs.
5. Ability to work irregular hours (as the job mandates), including weekend athletic events, emergency response, and special events such as move-in, move-out, commissioning, start-ups, commencement, reunions, etc.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and five years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Salary Range
$68,000.00 – $120,500.00
